You’ll find yourself re-reading this gem time and again to remind yourself why you went into teaching and to remind yourself that, yes, you really can do this and you really can dramatically change lives. Even if you teach at an affluent school in exurbia or suburbia, reading this account of how to excel in a life in the trenches will give you great ideas on respecting your students and knowing that, no matter where you teach, students bring lots of baggage from home.
great book! Lots of great teaching tips. On top of that, she tells what she says to students who ask her about drugs, smoking, sex/pregnancy, alcohol. That alone is worth reading the book for!
