From his lifelong love of reading and of sharing with others the great thoughts of writers and philosophers on many subjects, Elder Sterling W. Sill has compiled 52 chapters that highlight the principles, promises, and powers inherent in the gospel of Jesus Christ. All who are or who would become better leaders, parents, students of great thoughts and principles, and citizens of God's kingdom will find, in Principles, Promises, and Powers, guidelines to eternal happiness and success. Using homespun examples as well as the words of wise thinkers of today and yesteryear, Elder Sill provides a volume of interesting, uplifting, and motivating sermons in print.
Principles Promises and Powers by Sterling W. Sill is supposed to be an inspirational book. I did not find it inspirational at all. Written in 1973, Mr. Still focused too much on what he thought was the dark side of society. It was either the communists or all the bad young people who dress bad and have long hair and are a menace to society. Jesus loved all people and found the best in everyone.
It’s a book reflecting the establishment’s response to the counterculture of its time. It has a definite “finger-wagging old man” tone to it. But Sterling W. Sill always quote from such great sources. Worth the read just to circle all his citations and stories drawn from other great authors and historical figures.
