Young readers are introduced to the wonders of the human body in this reference that takes them inside to see how things fit and work together. This exciting book is packed with fascinating facts that make basic anatomy accessible and fun. Full color.
The language is simple enough for a 5 year old (read aloud to them), but the science is in depth enough that even an adult may find a few facts they didn't already know.
I love, love, love this book. The real life photographs along with the detailed diagrams explains everything you would ever want to know about the human body. There is a table of contents, a glossary, and an index. This book is 128 pages of amazing information and photos. Everything is covered in this book, even reproduction so just something to keep in mind. It is done very inconspicuously but it is in there. We will probably be referencing this book soon as our 9 year old has been asking lots of questions lately. This is a great book and kids and adults will enjoy it and learn a lot from it.
This book was exactly what my curious 4 year old needed. He’s been fascinated with how the body works and he loves this book. I’ve always been impressed with the different DK books I’ve seen so I was surprised that in the ‘Skeleton and bones’ section that they do not use the proper names for the bones. It’s a femur not a thigh bone. If you want to sing a fun song using nicknames, great, but I expect an “encyclopedia” to use the correct terms no matter if it’s aimed at young readers.
Super informative and easy for kids to understand! It’s chock full of (appropriate) pictures and drawings that add visuals to the text. Every page has an overview paragraph (what I read for the 3 year old) and more text in smaller font with additional information and details (perfect for older kids)
Highly recommend for any family’s library as a resource for all those “how” and “why” questions about our bodies!
Great encyclopedia packed with comprehensive information however in the reference section it doesn't give credit to the Arabs in the Golden Age of Islam for their contributions to medicine for example Ibn al-Haytam's contribution to optics or the Persian polymath Ibn Sina who greatly impacted medicine through his own accurate encyclopedia.

My niece and I have read this book cover-to-cover, and she absolutely loves it! When we first got this book she'd bring it to me and then crawl up into my lap to read through with me. She brought it with her in the car when we'd go places, and she'd look through it in the back seat.
Her brother has also sat in my lap while we look at this book, and his "What's that?" questions show that the book can even engage his growing mind (for a short while). This book has made it clear, however, that as far as my nephew is concerned, we have to work on the idea that skeletons are not necessarily "ghostes" (thanks a lot Scooby-Doo).
My children, particularly my 6 year old, love this book. It is probably a 2nd -4th grade level, as far as interest and vocabulary, but the pictures are wonderful and there is just enough detail, and description to keep children interested, but not overwhelmed. I particularly like the reproduction pages, as they are accurate without revealing much info. about the sex act, but refer mostly to the internal happenings within each sex, and with conception and growth of a baby. Very appropriate for the target age, in my opinion. We own this and never tire of revisiting it.
This is a great overall book on all aspects of the human body. The pictures and wealth of bits of information are presented in a nice way to hold a youngsters interest, where as many books on the body are too wordy, with not as many pictures. My 4.5 yo daughter is fascinated with the human body and we like this one best. It is her favorite book in the whole world right now, and I will admit I've learned a lot too. I must buy our own copy, as I know the library will want it back.
This book was full of gross things. It had pages that talked about bacteria and parasites. I thought it was going to be about bones and organs. I bought it for my four year old boy and Im not even going to give it to him.
