A sad tale of human trafficking that is based on real life accounts. A look into the life of a woman who is forcibly uprooted from the place where she was born and raised, to be put to work in one of the world's most famous red light districts in Amsterdam. This short book is part of a series. I thought I would give the first book a try as I have an interest and heart towards the women worldwide who are forced into human trafficking and sex slavery.
The female protagonist is not even given a name in the story, we meet her as she's being graphically "broken in" to the sex industry. Compared to being a piece of meat and a "meatfuck" numerous times I felt this book did little to show us the human side of this poor woman.
It's sexually explicit and graphic and most of the book is her being in various unwanted sexual scenarios from the man who owns her to her first customer she unwillingly entices from her window shop in Amsterdam's seedy red light district.
I think the author focused too much on the sex scenes, horrible as they are, the degrading of this woman is obvious BUT there is no sense of humanization of her, she needed a name! She is a person. It came across almost like the author only saw her as a piece of meat.
And I found typos, now this annoys me in a very short story because there is spell check and grammar check available. Proofing your own work and asking others to do the same is easy before publication.
I didn't like the tone of this book, it's almost a book that sick people who like reading sex scenes that are graphic and degrading would love. The author totally missed the mark by not building in a back story and empathy for this woman, it's too harsh. Yes this industry is ugly, but you can tell this story in a much better way.
I won't be going on to book two, I wanted a book that highlighted the plight of these women not just sex scenes that are ugly. I wanted badly to know this woman's name.
