Business magnate Luca Venancio is returning to Rio to pay his respects to his late brother, and to seduce his once fiancée, Daniella, back into his bed. Five years ago she left him without so much as a word, shunning him and the rich life he could offer in exchange for his younger, reckless brother. Now Luca wants revenge—seduce her and dump her, that's all he intends to do.
Blackmailed into a violent farce of a marriage, Daniella had no choice but to comply to protect Luca's life, even though it meant never being able to see him again. Years later, a twist of fate reunites them, throwing her plans of fleeing Rio out of the window and the love of her life straight back in.
Luca's flawless plan soon becomes complicated when he discovers Daniella is expecting his brother's child. It becomes even more complicated when old passions return. Can he actually go through with seducing her, bedding her, and then discarding her?
From the back blurb of this book if would sound like a complete fantasy as surely no one would force anyone to give up the love of their life just to ensure that person stays alive and in return they get years of physical and emotional abuse with no way out.
Yet it really does happen and when doing the research you will find many news articles relating these very events and the trauma it causes, but of course none of us want to think about that we check out the news story and file it at the back of our minds with the words " some people are completely nuts", and we move on.
In this read from author Samantha Darling she took the time to go behind what happens when the trapped person finally escapes their bonds and the life afterwards.
The read is about Daniella, blackmailed into a marriage she has lived through years of physical and verbal abuse, but fate smiles down upon her when her no good husband passes away and in walks her saviour Luca, he is not only the brother to her miscreant dead husband but also the love of her life, the man she had to leave behind to ensure his safety.
But Luca has no idea of why she left him to marry his brother he only knows that he wants revenge and he will take it anyway he can get it, even if it means luring Daniella into his bed, taking her, making her fall in love with him again and then letting her go to suffer the loss as badly as he had all those years ago.Only when he has her in his arms it seems that hatred has faded and in it's place is a love that never died, but then again his need for revenge seems to be much stronger.
The character of Daniella was in my opinion one of the bravest woman I have ever read about, she knows the life that lies ahead when she let's Luca go yet she does so because of her love for him, the author truly showed just how strong love can be and what we will endure for love.
Daniella does move from weak, broken down and completely emotionally scarred very, very quickly to being back in Luca's arms and happy again, yes that does sound completely impossible as we all know physical scars heal quickly but emotional ones take far longer, yet this tied in with the power Luca has over her, and showed that when you are weak it takes one person for you to focus on and very quickly turn your frame of mind around to draw the focus of your past away, and let's face it there is only so much a author can explore during a couple of chapters and overall I think the author did it pretty well.
The character of Luca was very well written and I could understand why he goes after revenge without actually trying to get behind the facts of Daniella's actions and this showed him to me as very, very real for where is the person that stops to think about what just happened before going off into a flying fit and just leaving, everyone asks why but never really takes it slow enough to find the answer, the author layed out this reaction in Luca's actions perfectly.
The backdrop settings were well incorporated by the author and I felt at home with the descriptions being given slotting me as reader nicely into the feel and taste of what was happening. The dialogue was emotional all the way, sexy one minute then anger the next then sadness and fear it all matched with what the characters were going through and trying to deal with.
I am taking away a message of when you lose someone you know loves you more than life it self, never assume it is simply because they stopped loving you, take a moment to step back and search for the deeper meaning behind their words for you never know what is truly the reason, and never try to take revenge when a powerful uncontrollable love is involved the revenge will backfire.
And most importantly never underestimate what the love of another can get you through , holding onto love while in the deepest darkest pits of hell on earth clinging to that love will and can get you through anything even the most unspeakable.
I recommend this read for anyone looking for romance with a bit of a twist and a look at the emotional side of living with fear.
4 star review " Revenge is bitter sweet when in the arms of your lover"
This book is the perfect blend of love, deceit, revenge and forgiveness. The story takes you through the lives of Luca and Daniella, 5 years after they were force apart. Both once madly in love and separated by envy and hate, are now reunited with unanswered questions, resentment and a long road to forgiveness.
Luca has never stop loving her, but is deeply hurt because all this time, he has been led to believe that the woman he loved left him for his younger brother without any remorse. Since his desire for revenge is as big as his feelings for her, Luca is on a constant struggle with himself as to what he can ultimately do to finally be able to heal and move on.
Daniella hasn't stop loving him either, but after living in her own personal hell at the hands of Luca's brother, she's scared to trust anyone, even the love of her life. She has her own fears to overcome and struggles over what's right and wrong, having the promise of love back in her life or move on and give up something that could probably never be fixed in the first place.
I loved this book!!! It was fantastically written, it got me hooked from the start, the description of things and characters was perfect and being set in the captivating and exotic Brazil, made it all more appealing, I could actually feel I knew this place and I sure want to now. Great debut novel!!!

So I've just finished reading Revenge in Rio by Samantha Darling. The story revolved around Luca and Daniella. Five years ago Daniella married Luca's brother Miguel to protect the man she loved. Now with Miguel dead, Luca decides the time is ripe to exact revenge on Daniella who he thinks ran off and married his younger brother for love.
Daniella is believable as an abused wife, her fear of becoming entangled with Luca just about jumping off the page. Luca is bitter because of the perceived betrayal and that is clear in the way his actions are portrayed - his every move is part of the carefully constructed revenge plot.
Throw in a hidden baby and you have all sorts of emotional issues.
The locations are described in such a way that you can reach out and touch them, and the pain and emotional twists are sure to set your heart-rate on a roller coaster!
Samantha's debut had my little heart racing from start to finish. Luca was sweet and yummy underneath the hard, sometimes brutal exterior, although he more than makes up for everything and the different povs mean we can see he really has a heart of gold under all that ruthless business man exterior. Oh, and did I mention sexy?
Daniella had my respect and sympathy from early on, though don't be fooled! She's no weak door mat heroine! She's sassy, has plenty of backbone and a strong desire for independence. She'll need it to stand up to Luca.
I read Revenge in Rio in a few hours, unable to put it down for longer than a few minutes. The author has packed one hell of an emotional roller coaster into this steamy little book that I for one will save on my keepers list. Brilliant job, can't wait for the next one.
Reminded me of my Beloved Harlequins, with the Sexy, Brooding Hero seeking revenge from a woman who wronged him...but little does he know...there is a secret....I truly enjoyed REVENGE IN RIO so much, gives a New School Spin to my Old Loves!!
Because of the detailed synopsis, I felt that this one was just a tad predictable yet for that very same reason I found it rather intriguing too. I wanted to know why our heroine Daniella walked away from her perfect life. She had everything that she could possibly want – comfort, stability, protection, a very bright and happy life with Luca. Reading into this story, I found her reasons quite commendable.
She was a woman who sacrificed everything for the love of her life. When they finally caught up with each other five years later she was still determined to protect him. I loved her for her strength, courage and her strong will. She was given a gift that was a fruit of very painful experience which most woman in her situation would have abhorred but she never once thought of it as so. Just as she protected Luca she did the same for her unborn child. She was simply that amazing.
Luca was very spiteful with all that occurred. He couldn’t understand what made her give it all up. She always seemed so content in his arms and was surprised that she had left him. Heartbroken, he poured all of his time and energy into his business. While his heart was shattering his career flourished. He became even more rich and powerful. Given his background I felt disappointed he didn’t do more with this influence and thought he had so much more potential.
I although adored him for taking in Daniella and seeing to her every need even if he had alternative motives at first. He could have hurt her so much worst but he always hesitated when it came to her. He knew that something just was not adding up and I loved that he pursued it until he finally got the answers.
I thought that this couple was very well paired. Daniella proved repeatedly how much she loved Luca. She endured so much to gain his freedom. Luca had so much love for her too. He made sure that even after all those years that she was well. When it was reported that she was looking sickly he dropped everything to see to her health. He made his brother the excuse but his primary concern was always Daniella. I thought that the tension and chemistry between them was satisfactory. I loved that even when she was pregnant they still remained passionate.
For a debut author I would have to say that I was dazzled by the story. Despite the predictability it still held my attention. I thought that the character building with Luca could have been better. Daniella on the otherhand was terrific. I felt an immediate connection to her character and thought she was admirable. After all she has been through I couldn’t help but cheer her on. Above anyone else I wanted her to get her HEA and rejoiced that the author was able to deliver. I enjoyed this one and I am really looking forward to reading more from this author.
Wonderful debut from author Samantha Darling! This is a reunion story with revenge firmly in the mind of Luca, the dark, brooding hero. He swallowed a bitterness pill when he was dumped by Daniella, and when he gets the opportunity to meet her again he is determined to make her pay. Daniella is horrified to see Luca in Rio again. What if he's risked everything she was forced to endure? Not even the fact that she is carrying his brother's child can deter him from drawing her back into his life. Lucky for him she finds Luca hard to resist. But at what cost? This is a beautifully written emotional journey.
Favorite quote: "He sat up straight, replaced his designer shades, and smiled to himself. If she wanted to play dirty, he was ready. Hardball was his strong point. It would make the revenge all that much sweeter, and he couldn't wait to taste it."
This is how I felt the entire time reading this novel. I seriously could not get over how amazing the writing was and how troubled both Luca and Daniella were. I love characters who have a past together, especially one as tricky as these two have. Daniella literally left Luca for Luca's brother and it killed him. It ripped him apart inside.
But he still kept tabs on Daniella, even after she married his baby brother. He couldn't stay away from her. He loved her and hated her all at once. Once his brother died he went back for her. He wanted to break her heart. To rip her to shreds just like she hurt him.
I LOVED IT. LOVED LOVED LOVED. I don't even have any other words for it. I loved how Luca struggled with his hate and love for Daniella, the entire book. And Daniella, wow. I loved her too. She was a fantastic character that I couldn't help but connect with. She has had things so incredibly tough, not mention she is pregnant with her asshole, deceased husband's baby.
The entire book was just amazing. That's the only way I can put it. There was so much tension, so much hatred and love.
When everything finally comes to a head between the two, I cried. That's right, I actually sat on the couch sniffling like a damned baby.
Darling delivered it perfectly though and I couldn't have been happier when the book ended with a HEA.
This book was so amazing. You should go and buy it now. Seriously GO!
Luca Venancio had his heart broken. Five years later, a business tycoon, who can have anything at the snap of his fingers, he still finds himself alone with a shattered heart. Now that his brother is gone, he needs to go back home and pay his respects and finally see Daniella, his late brother’s wife and Luca’s ex-fiancée. Oh he wanted her back, but not to rekindle their old romance, he would lure her back into his bed, then discard her. He would callously break her heart like she did to him in the past. But what he didn’t expect was to see Daniella pregnant and still had the power to make him lose control.
Daniella had been blackmailed into marrying Miguel to save Luca’s life. She had endured so much during the course of their marriage, and Miguel dying had been a blessing in disguise. The child that she’s carrying might be the only good thing that came out from her marriage. Now Luca’s back, and he still wanted her! Instead of moving out of Rio, she found herself inside his home, being with him again and enjoying the comforts of his company.
Luca didn’t realize that seeking revenge would be that hard – now that Daniella is pregnant with his brother’s child and that the chemistry is still present between the two of them. Can he go through with it? When dark secrets starts to unravel and Luca begins to understand what happened – will he be too late to save what they have?
I loved Daniella, although I wished he came to Luca when Miguel threatened her. I think Luca would have done something about it. But her love for Luca – wow, it must have been worth it for her to sacrifice everything good in her life. I’m glad that no matter how much she hated Miguel, she decided to keep her baby. It speaks a lot about her.
I enjoyed reading Revenge in Rio, and not just because I always loved second-chance romance. This book was short, but it made my heart ache, and made me cry. I love the pacing of the story, the characters and the twists that comes along with it. If you want a short, a little heartbreaking and romantic read – Revenge in Rio will be a great one for you!

WOW! This was one hot story! I loved it. Luca Vencancio goes back to Rio to attend his brother’s funeral and seduce brother’s wife who was his fiancée at one time. Luca has a plan to exact revenge on Daniella. He plans starts to fall apart once he starts to find out more about his late brother.
Danielle protected Luca in the only way she could unbeknownst to Luca. Danielle was blackmailed into marring Luca’s brother. She spent years at a verbal and physical punching bad to his brother. She is wary about Luca’s sudden appearance back into her life.
The chemistry between Luca and Danielle is blistering hot. The sex scenes were hot and spicy. I enjoyed seeing Danielle move from hurt, physically and emotionally, to happy. She is enjoying spending her time with Luca.
Overall, this was a wonderful story. For most of us this type of story is hard to understand that it can actually happen. To many this story is more like a fantasy. I love the overall message of this story that people who leave us don’t always do it because they don’t love you anymore.
Revenge is one of my fave tropes, so of course I was looking forward to REVENGE IN RIO.
And I was not disappointed! Revenge in Rio is a fabulous tale of love, family and second chances.
Hunkalicious Luca Venancio wants to make Daniella pay for all the pain she put him through when she broke his heart. But, as he returns to Rio for his brother's funeral, he finds her sick and pregnant. Then we are taken on a wild ride and, as we learn more about her motivations -- and his--, we fall in love with those two.
And the setting… I'm Brazilian, so I commend the author for her attention to details. Very nice!
This is completely different to the normal type of books I read but the title intrigued me..
For a debut novel I must say it's brilliant, the characters capture the imagination and you can tell the author is passionate about them.
The only improvement I could think of is I would have liked to have started the story a bit earlier.. It felt like a bit of a sequel at some points but with that said all questions were answered by the end!!
What the heck just happened here? OK, the 3 stars are given because the bulk of the story was good. The ending? Yeah, not so much. Everything resolved way too easily and abruptly. Daniella's reactions to Luca at the end were too neat and clean and above all, she wimped out.
Five years ago Daniella and Luca were planning their life together, they were deeply in love and engaged to be married. Suddenly, Daniella turned on Luca, chose his brother, and told Luca she never wanted to see him again. She didn't love him, it was all a lie. Two days later she pawned her engagement ring and began her idyllic life with Miguel, Luca's brother. That's Luca's version of events. Daniella has a much different version.
Luca vowed he would never set foot in Rio unless it was to seek his revenge against Danielle. He's waited five long years. The time has finally come. From the first time, he saw Daniella at his brother's funeral nothing seems to go as he had planned. He is determined to follow his plan, though. He can't vary from it. The longer he and Daniella are together again, the more Luca questions himself.
The story moves quickly and keeps the reader interested. However, the ending left me asking, "What the heck just happened???" Maybe it was just me, but everything is tied up too neatly and quickly. It wasn't realistic.
In Revenge in Rio by Samantha Darling, Luca Vencancio returns to Rio for his brother’s funeral. But that’s not the only reason, he also wants to seduce Daniella, his fiancée at one time, and have his revenge on her for leaving him without an explanation to replace him with his RIRyounger brother Miguel.
In order to protect Luca, Daniella gave in to Miguel’s blackmail and became his wife, his verbal and physical punching bag. Now that Miguel is gone, she is finally free. Read More...
