This book is not about getting somewhere, because you’re already there. It’s not about becoming someone, because you already are that someone. It’s not about having or doing, because the having and doing will happen through you once you awaken to the truth of who and what you are.

As someone who made a smaller reading goal to read 10 non-fiction books this year that promote self growth, this is a great self-help book for anyone who needs a little confidence boost. The book is written as if they author is speaking directly to you as a friend rather than some stuffy doctor who could care less. I really enjoyed how personal it felt while showing you how to be more confident through affirmations and why you should embrace exactly who you are.
if you've never read a self-help book before it could be a good read for you, if you've read self-help before (like me) then I wouldn't recommend as it's just basically says the same as all the others.

This book asks you to reevaluate what you know and to look inward for the answers that you may seek. This book places a strong emphasis that we already possess everything we need to transform and fulfill our life. McDermott stresses to avoid external stimuli & stuff as they can hinder our progress but challenges the reader to harness internal strength to create meaningful change in our lives.
The book offers practical tools and techniques to begin this work. As a reader you are asked to tap into your inner power to do this work- I wish there were a few more exercises to begin this work especially since this is my first book by the author! I will however do more work by downloading the author’s first book to see if there is more on this personal journey. Overall a great book to reshift priorities and tap into the things that truly matter! While this book was free to me this is definitely something I would have purchased for personal growth and development.
Empowering, inspiring, and full of light, GIVE YOURSELF BY PERMISSION by Cortney McDermott was everything I'd hoped for with its beautiful cover and description. Simply, I was grabbed from the first few sentences, intrigued and then curious about how life transforms when you give up the ideas of who you have to be and have been and release yourself into your innate powerful, beautiful, light-hearted self. Sounds a bit woo woo, but it's not. It's reality through a different lens -- and given the results I am already experiencing through asking the questions McDermott poses through out -- going from "I can't" to "How Can I....." with a big smile on my face. Perhaps this book is not for everyone, but it sure was a delight for me. I received a copy of this book and these opinions are my own, unbiased thoughts.
I was given a copy of this book by the author's agent to read and review. Right out the gate, the title struck a chord with me, "Give Yourself Permission," as I struggle every day with doing just that. Permitting myself to pursue goals and dreams that I have for myself is something I've once again strayed away from and desperately need to get back to. Chapter 7 of McDermott's book, "Live by Design," seemed to be just exactly what I needed to see most of all, as the author challenged readers to define who they want to be, where they want to go, and what actions are needed to design their lives as they want to live them. I highly recommend this book! -- Melissa Crockett Meske, author (and Illinois Business Journal managing editor)
This is my first “self help” book. I am surprised by how well this book kept my attention and kept me coming back for more. I read a chapter a day and it was encouraging and challenged me in ways I did not expected. I loved how she included science, personal experiences and a sprinkle of God I’m there. For people who are not spiritual, she explained it well to were you can also learn something as well.
You have permission to read this book, go do it! There are several chapters and exercises that will help you think. While I don’t agree with everything in the book, I do respect and agree that having confidence will help set you up to be happy and be you.
Give it a read if you’re looking for an energetic read!
I truly enjoyed this book. I love the tone of the book. It's uplifting and encouraging and really gives you some solid strategies for being true to yourself and bringing happiness into your everyday life. I'll definitely be seeking out more from this Author!
If you’re new to the self-help world then this book might be worth a read. But if you’ve already read a couple of books within this genre then this book will add nothing to your existing knowledge. For me personally, it was a waste of time.
Cortney is amazing! I rarely read non fiction but this was an exception and well worth the time and energy. Cortney is engaging and witty in her approach. Her efforts are sincere and relatable. She provides easy to use tools and techniques to improve your confidence and harness your inner power!
Great book with powerful tools to manifest all that you desire in life. I like how this book is designed and layed out. There is a lot of great guidance.
This book is everything I have needed to hear my whole life! I just reviewed Give Yourself Permission by Cortney McDermott. #GiveYourselfPermission #NetGalley [NetGalley URL]

The best book is when it feels as if you are talking to a friend and Give Yourself Permission by Cortney McDermott is definitely this book.
I've read quite a few books which would be considered personal development, self help, how to get yourself motivated...however you want to categorize it. Cortney's book thankfully gives tools to help you get to the place you strive to be. She is an amazing motivator and writer where it feels as if she is talking directly to you and giving you encouragement to give yourself permission and stop holding yourself back.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who needs motivation and tools to help you get past your excuses to succeed.
