If you find reading Dave Pelzer "A Child Called 'It'" and Cathy Glass "Cry Silent Tears" rewarding than this heartwarming story of overcoming the past and finding acceptance will keep you up all night turning the pages as you run the gamut of emotions.
Jeremy Bergeron is a four year old boy who will do anything to earn the love of his parents. But that is a love that they are unable or unwilling to give. Suffering from the neglect of his mother and the physical abuse from his father, Jeremy does everything in his power to survive.
Chase Milan is a rookie K-9 police officer. His job is to confront evil and get it off the streets. He knows about crime, but he has never before had to deal with its aftermath. With his canine partner, Neesa, Chase doesn't realize the struggles that come with picking up the pieces once tragedy has torn through a life.
With the squeeze of a trigger, two lives heading on different paths converge and Chase learns exactly what it's like to pick up the pieces and build a life that has been shattered by violence. Because he is signed up to be a foster parent, he gets temporary custody of the child. But his wife is unable to deal with a child who fears every shadow and finds comfort in hiding behind the sofa. When atop all the other issues, questions about his gender identity make the family question everything they once believed was certain.
Chase was only supposed to take Jeremy into his home for a week as social services locate the next of kin, but his life will never be the same again.
GOD BLESS THE CHILD is a story that will both touch and challenge you, a story that will have you tap into your deepest emotions. A novel that dares to ask the question "How far will you go to make sure a child grows up happy and healthy?"
Riveting story about a four year old child who is severely abused by his parents, who loses his parents, and is then placed in a foster family who has difficulty relating to his special needs. Just when you think the story will end another wrinkle develops (you'll have to read to find out what it is). Couldnt put the book down.
Absolutely heartbreaking and beautiful! An eye opening book about a little girl with a heart full of love and her adoptive parents who loved and were strong enough to make the right decision for the child!
A hard emotional read but worth it. Definitely recommend
This story was very well written and was pulling on my heartstrings the whole way through from the first page to the last one. I found myself relating to Melissa as I fell in love with Jeremy but couldn't handle the reality of his past. This story was a hard read and I found myself having to occasionally take a break to not be overwhelmed with emotion attached to the difficult subject matter, however I would definitely recommend this story to others that it is worth the read!
The story is eye opening it slams you with the darker sides of civilization. It's not a book for sensitive people. I found the book rather disturbing in the beginning it gets better but still you always get pulled back to the things the child had to live true. Plus the writer should have put some more time in the interaction with the medical professionals they are not realistic at all.
A little boy lives through horrendous child abuse. His parents refer to him as "the mistake". Jeremy is both physically and emotionally abused. He goes unfed and is forced to wear clothes that are 4 sizes too small. He is taken into foster care after his parents are killed. Then begins a beautiful story of love and trust. Jeremy has found a wonderful family. Jeremy then decides that he would love to be "Jenny" instead of Jeremy. It was a difficult book to read with all of the abuse but I did enjoy it. I look forward to book #2: Growing Up Jenny.
