The Thorpe Brothers #1
His Captive Lover
She’d been arrested? Mia couldn’t believe what was happening to her! How could the police accuse her of killing her ex-fiancé?! She was a kindergarten teacher! But here she was, standing in front of the judge, her eyes wide with fear and confusion.
Into this chaos strode the largest, most handsome man she’d ever seen in her life! Ash Thorpe stepped into the courtroom and took charge, not just of her defense but of Mia’s heart. He was funny, kind, intelligent and charming. He had but one flaw in Mia’s he thought she was a murderer!
How could she have lost her heart to a man who didn’t trust her? Her life had been so simple twenty-four hours ago. Now she was confused and lost in a sea of insanity that only got more crazy by the minute. And the only man who made sense, who helped her wade through the complicated judicial system, didn’t believe in her.
Ash had a thorny problem. It wasn’t enough that he was trying to navigate the dangerous waters of a murder trial, he was falling in love with his client! To give in to his urges would be an unforgivable breach of ethics, but so would be giving less than his best! Ash and his team were running a mile a minute trying to come up with a strong defense, but his concentration was suffering from the emotional and physical responses that Mia’s presence created. He might be able to save her in court, but would he lose her from his life?

Está bastante bien. Muchos clichés pero es ligero y entretenido para pasar el rato. No hay mucho que comentar tampoco...

This was a first time author for me,def will not be the last time reading her books.
Cute story and even cuter (?) couple. Now off to read the next book in this series of 4 brothers who are high powered lawyers set in Chicago.

Such a fun quick read. I will say that there is the whole sped up relationship. Feelings happen within days and I guess I can overlook that. It is one of those things you have to ignore in a romance.
Love Mia, she is so sweet and delightful. She is a great match for an arrogant guy like Ash. They are a compliment to each other her sensitivity and innocence balance out his control and seriousness. I love them together, especially when they banter!
The narrative is mixed, mostly the two leads POV, but some supporting cast as well. The supporting cast is sure to be heard from again in their own stories. I like the mix and all the insight the reader garners in this style. The downside is when it gets jumpy. Some of the sections are very short and it gets dizzy following who has taken the lead. Maybe it is clearer in writing?
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Viv Williams, who is fabulous. She has a wonderful tone and brings life to the read. He energy throughout is a real compliment to the storytelling. Love the quick pace of this read, it feeds into the action of the story. I will definitely be looking for more of her reads!
The book does have one smexy scene, which is a open bedroom door. It does not have as much detail as an erotic novel, but it does have some sweet steam! Yummy!! There is delicious chemistry from the very start.
I can not wait to read the other brothers stories! You get an idea of who their ladies will be and a hint of things to come. I wish they were all out in audio, like NOW!
Disclosure - I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions and ratings are my own.

I like this story it was cute. (audible review)
This was a short fun story. I liked Ash a lot. He was strong, sexy, smart and handsome. I liked Mia too, but she was a little to naive and soooo sweet, that it did sort of make her seem a bit ditsy at times.
The chemistry between the two was good, not forced or fake. It was genuine and the there was a nicely written sex scene too.
The story line and plot were entertaining and it was easy to follow along. There was a lot of dialogue and I like lots of dialogue.
As for the narration. It was okay. I do wish the narrator did the male voices a bit deeper or something. If she did that she would make a very good narrator. She needs to work on her voices. Giving everyone one their own voice. Her reading voice is very nice.

First let me say I am a big fan of Elizabeth Lennox. Elizabeth has written many wonderful books! Her latest book, “His Captive Lover,” is another of her intriguing stories that keeps you at the edge of your chair. Her latest book begins a series about the Thorpe Brothers, who are well respected lawyers in the community. In this first book we meet Mia Paulson, a sweet, well-loved and respected Kindergarten teacher. Mia has been accused of murdering her former boyfriend and she finds herself in the middle of a media frenzy. Much to Mia’s amazement, while being arraigned in front of a judge, in walks the handsome, enormous, rich, commanding lawyer, Ash Thorpe, ready to defend her. Mia finds out that her best friend, Autumn, who works for Thorp’s law firm, begged Ash to take her friend’s case because she knows with all of her heart her friend, Mia, is innocent and she cannot afford an attorney on her own. Ash, at first, cannot decide if she has been falsely accused, or is she just a remarkable liar. Mia finds herself drawn to this powerful man, but her instincts tell her “he thinks you are a murderer and a thief and you need to keep your heart in check.” She believes there is no room in her heart or her life for a man who could believe such lies about her. So begins their emotional struggle. Ash finds himself physically and emotionally drawn to Mia, but because of his ethical code, he fights his feelings because he cannot become emotionally involved with a client, whether she is a paying client for a pro bono client. As Ash and his team struggle to prove Mia’s innocence, Ash and Mia struggle to keep their emotions in check and concentrate on proving her innocence. Will Mia be acquitted of murdering her former boyfriend? Will Ash give into his urges to own this woman body and soul? Will Mia let her guard down and give herself to a man who does not trust her? Well you will have to read “His Captive Lover” to find out. I promise you will love each and every book written by Elizabeth Lennox.

I really enjoyed this book. When Mia is arrested for the murder of her stalker, ex-boyfriend, she is devastated. She is a sweet and kind kindergarten teacher and would never harm anyone. All of her neighbors and fellow teachers love her. How can she be in jail? When her best friend, Autumn, sees Mia's name on the docket call for that morning's plea hearings in court, she rushes into her boss' office and begs him to help. Ash is one of the top defense attorneys in the county and Autumn knows he can help clear Mia of the murder charges. When the Mia and Ash look at each other, there is an instance attraction. Ash feels immediately protective of Mia and knows he has to do whatever he can to clear her name and claim her. But he's afraid of getting to close to fast and breaking his rule about relationships with clients. But he can't help the way he feels, and keeps Mia close as they continue to build her defense as well as their friendship/relationship.
I loved the chemistry between these two. Ash is hot and Mia is super sweet. I'm looking forward to reading the other three books with the other three attorney brothers.

A fun read.
A fun passionate read full of sass. Even with Mia being charged with murder, the author does a wonderful job of blending humor and serious together making for an entertaining read. There is a lot of chemistry between Mia and Ash, they make a "cute" couple. They are a memorable couple with her saving earthworms and their love of ice cream (who has 20 different ice creams in their freezer? Let alone room?). Too sweet!

I loved this story more than Xander’s. Definitely more entertaining... maybe because of the murder trial and all. I love how each brother is quite possessive about their lady love. :)

Eh.. I was slowly enjoying the storyline but then it just became extremely far fetched. In love and ready for marriage within a week? Really? And where was the smut!

As content and narrative aspects have already been discussed similar to my opinion, I'll just comment on a few aspects.
In general I liked the story pretty much. It has interesting plot twists and keeps you reading non-stop.
The man is a real treasure of a guy and sometimes even too understanding in my opinion. He is smart and even though he's obviously a dominant, strong character, he has enough soft spots to fall in love with fast.
I didn't so much like the heroine though.Without giving away any plot secrets, I'd just describe her as ungrateful and self-centered in a particular way. She's awfully supportive of colleagues, neighbors and friends but she's adding unneeded drama to both the case and the relationship.
If your lawyer tells you to stay put, you stay put. If you cannot be sure whether you're possibly falling into a trap by returning to a "crime/investigation scene", then you don't go there, even if it's uncomfortable. Or at least you take witnesses along to prove later on that you did not move item XY and to prove certain damages possibly done during the investigation was there prior to her arrival so she has a right to compensation should anything important have been destroyed or stolen or whatever. That's basic instinct when you're being accused of murder innocently and there already is enough evidence to put a bad light on you. And if your lawyer busy hearing out his staff about evidence, you shut the h*** up and not act like a 5-years-old. To think she's self-centered enough to assume that because he's busy in the meeting means he's trying to convict her or ignore her just to be rude..How dumb can she play at being? She's a teacher so she had have to have gone to university and get a degree there so she should have more than enough intellect to understand that it's not a lawyer's job to always say "Of course you're innocent.". If he works for you, he's busy cumulating evidence in your favor, not against you. And even if he's summing up things against you, he's doing so to find a way to oppose it. Why should he suddenly decide to paint her guilty? What'd be in it for him?! Nothing!
Does she think a court would be convinced just by him dressing up nicely and standing up saying "Look guys, she's innocent.". No, he needs evidence. And if you're not sure about what he thinks of you, then you ask him and make sure. So either in her brain the world revolves around her making everyone being responsible to tell her always what they are thinking or doing and why, and that's why she's taking everything personal, or she's just dumb. Neither does that awesome man justice, if you were to ask me.

I am first going to say I enjoyed both Mia & Ash great personalities and this book was great to me is a short story (almost). I really really really am surprised that I like this author so much. But she does constant things that annoy me and it happens in everything I read of hers (it doesn't bother me enough to not read her books though).
First make the time spans wks not DAYS!
Second love is not defied as I want her in my bed.
Third lets get married I've known you 3,5, or 7 days.
Serious flaws! Serious! All of these books would be 5 starts if she could just get an ample timeline. Ahhh & this book seriously Ash is a lawyer he's not stupid so when we are in his head and he's thinking stupid thoughts I want to cry. Also the set up for the brothers was corny at the bar. I saw the Autumn set up with Xander from the start which was well played. Then Cricket and Ryker was a nice slide nj at the end the should've been developed more in the next books as well as Kiera and Axel, who seriously should've been introduced with attraction during the second or third book. But no one step to far with the bar scene. Then we find Autumn's book is last seriously all the hype about them but they are last again annoying.
I am going to read this entire series cause I really really do like the authors writing style it honestly is enjoyable. If she could just format to wks & months and it would be perfect. Simple things, "...and the rest of the week was mostly the same until today." Or "...we spoken almost daily but had not seen each other for X days." These are all simple remedies without dragging out the story and still making it enjoyable. Not hay marry me 5 days later. Every single other part of the plot fits in every book this far except these items listed above.

1 Unrealistic Stars
“ “You might be big and gorgeous,” she said with a sigh … “but I can resist you easily."

Kindergarten school-teacher Mia Paulson has been arrested for the murder of her ex-fiancé and her best friend has called in stellar defense attorney Ash Thorpe to help her. Ash doesn’t know if he believes that Mia is innocent, until he spends some time with her and learns exactly how innocent she really is.
His Captive Lover is a sweet attempt at a hot romance. Mia is just too kind, gentle and endearing to be true. I mean, she saves earthworms – “When we’re walking down the sidewalk, she’ll actually stop and help earthworms get across so they don’t dehydrate in the sunshine and die.” - Really? I had a hard time believing this to be true.
The relationship between Ash and Mia is just as unrealistic as the characters themselves. The basis of the story is a sweet thought, I just wish that the author did not make the characters so overly sacchariney sweet. I doubt very much I will read the other books in the series. Having introduced the other female protagonists at the end of this book, I have very little hope that they will be a bit more realistic.
This book is a Read At Your Own Risk . I tried it and will not go there again.

Don't listen to the three 1 and 2 star reviews on Amazon, listen to the fifty-five 4 and 5 star ones. This is a really cute short story. Loved Ash and Mia, the story, all the secondary characters, the sexual tension that, eventually, led to some great sex. Loved the brothers, Ryker, Zander and Axel, can't wait to read their stories. Very entertaining.
As to the narrator: She was just ok for me. She read with no emotion at all and when a man talked in a "deep commanding voice" or in a growl or a sneer, whatever, it was just a little to feminine for me. She did a terrible job of lowering her voice to sound manly. There are 3 more books in this series and I'll read them all without listening. I usually like to read along while I listen but not with this narrator.

I liked this book.
But...
I could've loved it.
I have absolutely nothing against the plot of the story infact the opposite and I thought it was great....but I think it could've been written and expressed more tactfully because I felt like it was kind of rushed and didn't give justice to the plot of the story!!
Similarly, idea behind the characters was great but I was not able to fully connect with them in some of the instances (I'm sorry I so wanted to)
Overall I would say it was a fun and delightful read but it could've a more smooth(er) sailing.
BUT THE ENDING WAS AWESOME SO.... I AM OFF TO READ THE NEXT PART ...
3.8 Earthworm stars !!

I enjoyed sorting through the confusion about what went down to get Mia arrested...
Autumn's certainty that she was innocent, and her reasons why, gave us an early description of the person Mia was.
Ash on the other hand was amused at Autumn, and was basically doing Autumn a favor. Under duress.
Ash's professional persona was in conflict with his personal reaction to Mia, giving her confusing signals. For the most part, she got the impression that he didn't believe her. Or trust her.
The two of them had more angst mixed with the chaos of the investigation. A good story.

this is the second book of elizabeth lennox that i've read. And so far, i love this than the previous one.
EL successfully bring simple and common conflict as her main conflict, yet still packed it beuatifully. The hero and heroine in this story is the characters that we couldn't help but loving. But, i think EL is still too fast to revealed the pairings in this series, well i mean i already can't guess who will end up with who.
but anyway, really looking forward to read the next thorpe's stories ♡♥♡

Great book
Great love story with just a bit of suspense surrounding Mia's court case. My only problem is Mia's reasoning behind her anger at Ash towards the end after they find out the truth of what happened to her ex-fiancé - her anger over him believing that she was a criminal did not make sense since he had just exonerated her of any and all crime. Other than that I have my normal complaints about Elizabeth Lennox's typos and grammar mistakes but I truly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys an easy-to-read HEA love story.

Asesinato, defensa, amor a primera vista, amistad, lealtad, desvíos.

I have to say this is the first book I've read in a long time, and it was really good. The book wasn't too long, and there was actually a good plot behind the romance. Ash and Mia are characters you could easily fall in love with. Cute little "aww" moments here and there. It is definitely a book to read.
