Robin Wood was a Paraguayan comic book writer and author. He was mostly known for his classical work in Argentine comics and his later work in European comics. Of Paraguayan-Australian origins, Wood spent his childhood between Paraguay and Argentina with his mother, before leaving to do various jobs, such as dishwasher, truck driver, salesman, wood chopper, journalist and factory worker in those two countries as well as in Brazil. Anne Whitehead's 1997 book on New Australia, Paradise Mislaid, provides a chapter on Robin Wood's childhood with his extended Paraguayan-Australian family. Wood settled in Buenos Aires while working as a correspondent for Argentine newspaper El Territorio, and did a series of unqualified jobs before he started writing scripts for popular comic book publishing company Columba. His first published work was Aquí la retirada, illustrated by his friend Lucho Olivera, in the magazine D'artagnan, and would soon become one of the most important comic writers not only of the Argentine comic but that of Latin America. In the 1980s Wood moved to Europe, where he continued with his writing success, especially in Italy where he won the Yellow Kid award. Sigo con la edición de Comic.Ar de esta legendaria historieta y se da aquí el enfrentamiento del protagonista con uno de los dos enemigos (de cuatro originales) que le quedan para cumplir con su venganza. Supongo que si uno seguía esta historia desde el principio, este momento tan determinante lo debía de llenar de emoción. No es mi caso, pero no hay pero ninguno en cómo orquesta Wood la historia, cómo se van ordenando todos los participantes del enfrentamiento en Lucca y cómo se resuelve el conflicto. Sin embargo, lo mejor para mi pasa en Marsella, en una suerte de prólogo al mentado enfrentamiento, dado que ahí Dago resuelve las cosas con mucho ingenio y no con tantas “está por matarlo alguien y aparece un aliado/secundario/enemigo que inesperadamente le salva la vida”, algo que se reitera bastante en los dos libros. Si bien me quedo con El saqueo de Roma, está continuación sigue siendo tremendamente adictiva de leer. Y los dibujos de Gómez son una bestialidad tal que no alcanzan las palabras, no se les puede hacer justicia. Busquen online alguna muestra y miren lo que es eso.
