Dr. Judith Lucci is an Amazon bestselling author who writes what she knows. She is the author of the Alex Destephano Medical Thriller Series and the soon to be released Michaela McPherson, Private Eye, a series centered on a retired homicide detective from Richmond, Virginia who really can’t retire.
“Before I wrote fiction, I was an academic writer who published research, theoretical works, text books and just about anything a nurse or college professor needed to publish to survive. The differences in academic writing and writing fiction are dramatic. Writing what I know propels me to pull from my clinical experiences, some good, some not and use popular fiction as a means to teach and advocate for others. My books have three purposes, to engage the reader, to entertain them and to educate about healthcare and perhaps, the darker side of hospital life.
I am a nurse and hold graduate and doctoral degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Virginia. I have always been a reader and a writer and I love it. I am a member of the Virginia Writers Club, The Shenandoah Valley Writers and Sisters in Crime.

The Imposter by Judith Townsend Rocchiccioli is an impressive medical thriller of the highest quality. The author pulls out all the stops in this book #2 of her Alex Destephano series to create a grab-you-by-the-scruff-of-your-neck action thriller. The characters are brilliantly written to the extent they popped out of every page and the author used multiple POV to perfection never causing confusion. Alex Destephano the hospital lawyer at Crescent City Medical Center once again has her hands full as a poorly run psych ward explodes into violence leaving the hospital at the mercy of massive law suits. Worse still, the staff are brutally attacked by a sexual predator of monstrous proportions. She and ace cop Jack Francoise must solve the attacks which escalate to murder before the hospital looses all credibility. And as the hunt for the attacker proceeds so the psycho ups the ante and seems to be able to laugh in the face of his enemies. The descriptions of this monster are chilling in the extreme. Again the author is superb at describing day to day hospital activities, police procedures and psychobabble and leaves this reader wanting more of the same. Thank goodness book #3 is available. This FIVE STR medical thriller is an absolute must read and very highly recommended.
This is another great Alex Destephano mystery novel displaying author Judith Townsend Rocchiccioli’s wonderful storytelling and writing ability, and utilizing her amazing knowledge of the intricacies and the operation of a big city hospital. The Psych ward, housed in a separate building is the scene of horrific murders and rapes. Several of the inmates are suspect. As the story continues, suspicion falls on the hospital administrator, and others, as well. The author’s descriptions of a variety of hospital procedures, from surgeries, to various psychological disorders are detailed and scientific and are seamlessly woven into the dialog and action. A powerful attraction develops between Police Commander Jack Francoise and Dr. Monique Desmond. Alex and Robert continue their friendship, with hints of something more. Highly Recommended for mystery lovers.
The story starts in NO, where two kids are found dead with their throats torn out and their wrists slit. Cause of death? Ex-sanguination. Yikes! The next thing you know, a psychiatric nurse is being beat-up outside a hospital, mauled and bitten - and the nurse knows the killer, but he does such a number on her that's she's left unconscious by the way-side.
Follow Alex Destephano's journey as she tries to uncover the perp - who's going about killing all and sundry. It's going to be a dark ride for all parties concerned.
The second in the Alexandra Destphano series was good. The team has already been through one crisis and now the hospital is in another crisis. Alex is a good character. She is being developed nicely as are other main characters. This book keeps me wanting to read more and more. I can't wait to see what happens in book 3.
Alex No. 1 was good but number 2!!! Off the charts!!! Ms. Rocchiccioli has done it again!! The Imposter is a fascinating read. Dr. Rocchiccioli is establishing herself as the next great writer of mystery and intrigue. Even if you missed her first novel, Chaos at Crescent City Medical Center, you will still be able to enjoy the Imposter. A.T.
This book is scary but I loved it. Sometimes I wanted to stop reading it because of what I was afraid of what might happen but I just had to continue reading. It was an addictive read for me but it for sure 5 stars. The author has done it again. D.C.T.
The Imposter is an amazing psycho thriller! This novel grabbed my attention in the first few pages and held it throughout the story. Vivid, descriptive and bold, the characters were very human and believable. The terror scenes hiked up my blood pressure and chilled me to the bone. I appreciate the author's descriptions of psychiatric hospitals and the dangers that lurk in them. This is an amazing book that entertained me and taught me quite a bit as well. I highly recommend it.
Who would think that staff within a Psychiatric Hospital would want to kill other staff. This book has a good plot and some twists. Will have to see what the next book has in the way of twists and turns.
“The Imposter” by Judith Townsend Rocchiccioli is the author’s second book in her amazing series of gripping medical thrillers. The first was a great set up for the characters and the scene setting at the Crescent City Medical Center. This follow up opens with a most gruesome crime that sends newly promoted police commander Jack Francoise into a swearing frenzy. The location is the exotic and hot French Quarter in New Orleans. The focus of this particular thriller is on psychopaths and the criminally insane. The author shows how tough the psych wards really are and how dangerous and difficult the job is. Alex Destephano is a lawyer in the administration with a talent for crime solving. When a friend of hers is brutally attacked she decides to get involved. Alex is a wonderful character with ambiguous feelings towards her ex-husband Robert, who also works at the hospital and with her on the case. Jack, the police commander, is equally engaging and his love life adds spice to the investigation. As other reviewers have pointed out, Rocchiccioli has extensive medical and administrative knowledge which makes the thriller so realistic and convincing. The crimes are gruesome and I found the tone of this novel overall darker yet also more gripping and addictive. For me the book was a very intense reading experience that had me so drawn into the story that I finished the book in almost one sitting. An excellent thriller that makes you look forward to the next.
Rocchiccioli continues to amaze me with her chilling medical thrillers. This is the second of her books that I have read and once again, it is a winner. The Imposter is thought-provoking and captivating at the same time and in many regards, seems to be an expose' on the challenges medical professionals face when working with patients with a mental illness. I loved getting to know Alex, Jack and Robert a little better and the voices of the new characters were loud and clear. I was able to see and visualize the characters in my mind and the setting in New Orleans was clearly described. The scenes were clearly terrifying and descriptive and the novel was fast-paced and full of action. She kept me guessing throughout the book and only at the very end did I find the real killer.
It is clear that Rocchiccioli' medical thrillers are clear, crisply written and tend to educate the reader. They are full of suspense and intrigue and the plots are carefully executed. I am truly one of her fans and I cannot wait for the next! If you like medical thrillers, you need to read this today. You won't be disappointed!
The Imposter is one of the best books I've read, There seems to be a new frightening development every few pages either in New Orleans or Cresent City Medical Center. A nurse is brutally attacked near the hospital parking garage, The head of The Psych unit is weird. The head of the hospital and Nursing supervisor are incompetent and only thinking about the bottom line financially. Alexandra Destephano, the hospital attorney and Jack Franciose, Commander of NOPD, join forces to solve the numerous killings. This is a book well worthy of reading.
CCMC. New Orleans best hospital where you bring your love ones to be healed and to feel safe. Or are they?
Alex, CCMC's lawyer; Robert her ex-husband who is one of CCMC's finest doctors along with Jack their lovable but hard-nose police captain rush against time to find out who is terrorizing and killing their patients.
How can they stop this person when they have no idea who he is? Or not even realize just how close he is to everyone in the hospital.
Crescent City Psychiatric Pavilion (I prison unit, II psychiatric unit, III substance abuse unit). Pavilion II unit. Louis (patient), & James “Jim” McMurdie (patient, former NOPD cop) were playing Battleship. Jim said Louis was cheating. Louis said Jim was sleeping with his wife. Amy (Asian-American patient care asst.) got the worst end of their battle. Angela “Angie” Richlieu (mother, Catholic, Pavilion II unit, LSU; BS nursing) picked up the syringe & put it in the Sharps Container.
Angie left the Pavilion II unit to pick up Jessica (Angie’s baby daughter) at daycare. She was attacked & never picked her up. New Orleans, LA. Dr. Monique Desmonde (40+, Jack’s lover, MD, Tulane U Professor psychiatry; CCMC chief of psychiatry, CDC/NIH consultant), Commander Jack “Skip” Francoise (NOPD 8th Police District, Tulane U, retired US Army), & Bette Favre (CCMC chief nursing exec.) were meeting with Alexandra “Alex” Destephano (CCMC legal counsel, RN, JD, U of Virginia), & Bridget (Angie’s twin sister).
Angie (Bridget’s twin sister) is on an IV drip, ventilator, & has some serious head injuries. Dr. Goshette, & Dr. Robert Bonnet (Alex’s ex-husband, MD, CCMC chief of surgery, U of Virginia) were attending to her. Mr. Lester Whitset (CCMC psychiatric administrator, contract mgr., MS) came to speak with Alex. Jim murdered Mrs. Santa Claus. Bette was being grilled by Dr. Bonnet about the murder last night.
Elizabeth Tippet (Pavilion II psychiatric unit admin.) was about to say the same thing to Donald “Don” Montgomery (CCMC CEO). Days later. What were Don, & Lester discussing.
Warning: This book contains extremely graphic adult content, violence, or expletive language &/or uncensored sexually explicit material which is only suitable for mature readers. It may be offensive or have potential adverse psychological effects on the reader.
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. Wow, a very well written psychiatric thriller book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great psychiatric thriller movie, or better yet a mini TV series. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

Judith Lucci, Crescent City Chronicles - I like that there's an overview for all three books, so the reader knows what the book is about before reading it. I received this set from a website giving away free thrillers. 5*
Judith Lucci, Chaos at Crescent City Medical Center #1 - Full of intrigue. A well written, fast paced suspense novel with developed characters and a thought out plot. This is my first book by the author and I'm happy with the substance and intrigue that's thorough out the story. It's great to see a female lead character that isn't full of stupid and trying to prove it. Nice to read an edited novel, too. Being in the Big Easy made for a great plot by using the culture and beliefs from there, although voodoo and hoodoo are two different items. 5*
Judith Lucci, The Imposter #2 - Full of intrigue. This book starts six months after book one ended. Another well written, fast paced suspense novel with returning and new characters along with another interesting, intriguing plot, which keeps the reader glued to the end. 5*
Judith Lucci, Viral Intent: Terror in New Orleans #3 - More intrigue. This book starts six weeks after book two ended. Again, another well written, fast paced suspense novel with our favorite and new characters and an interesting, intriguing, twisting plot, which keeps you immersed until the end. Glad there are two more books after this one. 5*
An average thriller that was offered free on Book Bub and it’s clear why. The characters are not believable. The portrayal of the inner workings of a medical center beggars belief. A hospital CEO who is psychologically unstable and cannot control his outbursts, and a Vice President of Nursing who has no regard for the nursing staff would never be tolerated at Any hospital, much less a world class one. The author states that two doctors reviewed the book before publishing. What kind of doctors would know so little about how hospitals operate? Podiatrists? Napropaths?
There is continual breach of patient confidentiality, with main characters discussing patient details with the police, and with other doctors not involved in their care. The main character, who is a nurse turned lawyer, seems to have unlimited power over everyone at the hospital.
The portrayal of the Psychiatry Service is appalling, uninformed, and malicious, setting back mental health care decades. The book is full of typos.
Get it together Judith Lucci and 1) get a medical doctor to relieve you of your fantasies about medical care and 2) get a proofreader/editor who knows what they’re doing.
Highly intriguing. There is a psycho on the loose in New Orleans. There has been a gruesome murder in the French Quarter. A nurse has been attacked after she finished her shift at the Psych Ward at a major hospital. An elderly patient is assaulted and killed. Who is responsible? Could it be a psycho patient? Someone posing as a hospital worker? Someone who has reached a crisis and snapped and is roaming the streets of New Orleans? Judith describes her characters and the Big Easy so well you feel like you live there and know the people involved in the story. Get your copy and come along on this wild roller coaster ride and find out the answers. This is one of the novels in Crescent City Chronicles Volumes 1-3 which I have purchased.
The plot ranks a four out of five stars but the writing is so haphazard, so horrible. I had to deduct seventeen stars. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to rate of "-13 stars." Poor grammar and sentence structure, incorrect words. .. And grown adults slapping each other high five all the time and giving each other too many hugs.
I was also annoyed by the rambling critiques of psychiatric care in our society. Pages upon pages of it. There were also no gray areas -- all of the people in the novel were 100% white (meaning "good") or 100% black (meaning "bad or evil"). This treatment made many, if not most of the characters caricatures.
I couldn’t put this book down until I finished it. Loved it so much, I had to have the whole series. This book kept me guessing. I don’t usually go for these types of books but this one pulled me in. Kept me interested and left me wanting more. I’m not much for writing reviews but I give this book 5 stars for being well written and holding my attention. It also didn’t hurt that I was a nurse in Louisiana working on the psych ward. How eerie is that???
An easy-to-read book which showcases some really weighty subjects in the form of health care, specifically psychiatric care, hospital management, insurance companies and the relationships between the police, the media and the health care industry. All of this is wrapped up in a nail-biting medical suspense so well written that you feel you know the people and you can feel their fear and their commitment to catching the murderer. The book needs proof reading though as there are many mistakes.
This book and series has been highly rated by many, however, I found this book slow in parts, obvious in others. The writing and dialogue goes for realism but comes off contrived more often than not. I was disappointed and not sure if I will read the other books packaged together in "Dead and Gone."
Not sure why this book rated so well. Although the plot was good, and the story plowed along at a good pace; the conversations between characters were downright painful. It was stilted conversations. Too wooden. And the characters constantly referenced what happened earlier this year (book 1 in the series I assume). Anyway, nice enough story. 2 stars.
"The Imposter by Judith Luck is a gripping psychological thriller that will keep readers guessing until the very end. Lucci skillfully crafts a complex web of deception and suspense, immersing the audience in a world where nothing is as it seems. The well-developed characters and intricately woven plot make The Imposter a must-read for fans of the genre."
What wonderful characters! I want to be their friend. This author really makes me care about what happens to them. Once again, Alex is drawn into a horrible situation. Can she and her friends solve the crime spree? This is a must read!
The Imposter is the second book in Judith Lucci’s Alex Destephano series and is an intricately woven tale with lots of action and suspense. The storyline is well plotted and the characters are colorful and well developed. Ms. Lucci has incorporated her extensive medical and administrative knowledge and experiences into this page-turning thriller. The crimes portrayed in this novel are based on personal experience and are gruesome. Many of the scenes are terrifying and descriptive and the novel is fast-paced and full of action. This gripping novel, which provides an intense reading experience, kept me in the dark about the villain’s identity until the reveal. I highly recommend this book those who enjoy reading books in the medical, thriller, and suspense genre.
Alexandra ‘Alex’ Lee Destephano is the in-house legal counsel for Crescent City Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. She’s still trying to come to grips with the tragic death of her boyfriend, Mitch Landry, trying to sort out her feelings for her ex-husband, Dr. Robert Bonnet, and dealing with a horrible hospital’s CEO, Don Montgomery, a quirky and questionable contract administrator of the psych ward, Lester Whitset, and inadequate and sometimes incompetent staffing. Police Commander Jack Francoise has his hands full when two young tourists are found dead, with their throats torn out and their wrists slit, in the French Quarter, then Angela Richelieu, a psychiatric nurse, is brutally attacked in CCMC’s parking lot, and the bodies of two politicians are discovered in the same spot where the tourists were murdered. After another tragic incident at the hospital, Alex joins forces with Jack and Dr. Monique Desmonde, CCMC’s Chief of Psychiatry, to try to figure out if one of the psychiatric patients could be involved.
