പ്രശസ്ത കഥാകൃത്തും നോവലിസ്റ്റും. 1928ല്‍ കോഴിക്കോട്ട് ജനിച്ചു. കേരള കൗമുദി കോഴിക്കോട് യൂണിറ്റ് എഡിറ്റര്‍, കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി നിര്‍വാഹകസമിതിയിലും കേരളസംഗീതനാടക അക്കാദമി ഭരണസമിതിയിലും അംഗം, സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി പ്രസിഡണ്ട് എന്നീ നിലകളില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കണ്ണ്, ഹിരണ്യകശിപു, എണ്ണപ്പാടം, മരം, അറബിപ്പൊന്ന് (എം.ടി.യും ചേര്‍ന്നെഴുതിയത്) നല്ലവരുടെ ലോകം, തൊപ്പിയും തട്ടവും, പ്രസിഡണ്ടിന്റെ മരണം, മെഴുകുതിരികള്‍ തുടങ്ങി നിരവധി കൃതികളുടെ രചയിതാവ്. കേരളസാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാര്‍ഡ്, കേന്ദ്രസാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാര്‍ഡ് ഇവ ലഭിച്ചു. 2003ല്‍ അന്തരിച്ചു. ഭാര്യ: ഇമ്പിച്ചി പാത്തുമ്മബി.

N. P. Mohammed, popularly known by his initials N.P., was a Malayalam novelist and short story writer from Kerala,South India. He, along with his contemporaries like M. T. Vasudevan Nair, O. V. Vijayan, Kakkanadan and Kamala Das ushered in a modernist movement in Malayalam fiction in the late 1950s. During his long literary career, NP served as the President of Kerala Sahitya Akademi. His novel Daivathinte Kannu won the Kendra Sahithya Academy Award (Malayalam) in 1993. Malayalam writer and academic N. P. Hafiz Mohamad is the son of N. P. Mohammed.

It's Ahammed's story or rather narrated by him.The incidents unveils through Ahammed's point of view ,which may be called as God's eye( Daivathinte Kannu). Ahammed, a boy of young age describes the true beauty of nature,(who even considers rain as his best friend),and the customs and traditions followed by Muslim community at a certain period.The story narrates about the superstitious believes followed by a certain people.They are strongly bound by those beliefs,that they even sacrifice their life for those superstitions. Its a great book where we cud read all the innocence of a boy as he would raise so many questions in our mind because like us, now on this modern era, he doubts all those traditions himself back then.

ഇന്നലെ പയറിൻ പൂവിനു എന്തൊരു ചന്തം ആയിരുന്നു .വെളുത്ത പൂവാണ്. അതിന്റെ വക്കിനുഇളനീരക്കാരയുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.ഉമ്മയുടുക്കുന്ന കാച്ചിയുടെ വക്കുപോലെ ആയിരുന്നു

Just in case this site is still up in twenty years I think I should explain the metaphor ‘glacier-slow’. It probably sounds like an oxymoron because glaciers move so quickly up valleys, but when I was a little boy glaciers moved very slowly down them.

അഹമ്മദ് എന്ന കുട്ടി തൻ്റെ നാടായ കോഴിക്കോട്ടു നിന്നും തറവാടായ പരപ്പനങ്ങാടിയിൽ വന്നു താമസിക്കുമ്പോഴുള്ള അനുഭവങ്ങൾ ഒരു കുട്ടിയുടെ കൗതുകത്തോടെയും ജിജ്ഞാസയോടെയും രചിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. 'ഒരു ദേശത്തിൻ്റെ കഥ' നൽകിയ അനുഭവങ്ങളുടെ മറ്റൊരു രൂപം.
