KISS ME, I'M YOURS is the second book in the 'Tennessee Waltz' series but can easily be read alone. Sophie Bowen is the owner of an yoga studio when she finds out that her boyfriend, Kevin, is messing around on the sly with one of her clients. He was working off some loans with Sophie and she fears he has stolen money. Then she finds out that the IRS is going to perform an audit and is afraid she will lose her business.

So what does Sophie do? Go out with some employees/BFFs and get drunk, of course. But before the night is over she has an accident and finds herself in another time period: it is now 1865 and the Civil War ended three months ago. She finds herself saved from a tragic moment by a farmer, Gabriel, and a mute twelve year old girl.

Suspend your disbelief because the heroine, for most of the story, comes across as whiny and abrasive. She is scared and this is the way she handles her fear; her mouth rules her actions. She wants nothing more than to return to the present time. This goes on for about 80% of the story.

I'm going out on a limb with my review and say that I was very disappointed with KISS ME, I'M YOURS. The plot felt disjointed, the heroine was unlikable, and there was very little chemistry between Sophie and Gabriel. Nothing seemed to click.

When you mix the chick-lit genre with a time-travel, fantasy, and historical romance theme you are playing with fire. It takes some skill to make it work. First and foremost, you have to make the characters believable. And you have to make the reader care about what happens to them. Neither of those ideas worked for me.

That said, I loved KISS ME, I'M IRISH. The author took a hodgepodge of genres, melted them together and made the story work. I rated it five stars and consider it a keeper. Not so with this second story, I trudged through the book. I hoped against hope that it would get better. It didn't. And unfortunately, I am no longer excited enough to continue with the series.

I loved this story. It is a lovely romance novel filled with magic and the message that finding a soul mate knows no boundary of time. Sophie time travels from the future to the past at the exact moment that she wishes her life to be different. At the same time that she appears in the past, a 12 year old girl turns up by her side and they are found by Gabriel who is himself on the verge of ending his life. This is the period after the civil war and true to his time he is a strong believer in God and a follower of principles. Finding the two girls he takes them in going against the way of society and inviting a lot of criticism.

This story deals with how each character faces their troubled thoughts and learn to accept and realise who they really are. Sophie names the girl Angela and finds a kind of connection with her even though the girl refuses to speak. There is something mysterious about her which will cause the reader to keep questioning her existence until the very end. Through a lot of ups and downs, Sophie and Gabriel end up getting married as Gabriel says its the right thing to do since Sophie is living in his house. Eventually the two of them realise that they love each other but it takes Sophie travelling back to the future for them too truly realise how much their love has grown.

When Gabriel turns up in the future, it proves that love knows no boundaries of time. The truth about Angela is revealed eventually and will leave the reader shocked. A wonderful second book in the Tennessee Waltz series, this is as heart warming as the first. The reader will feel the pain and the love of each character through their journey of discovery and hats off to the author for making that possible.

The characters are well thought out and though not perfect, they are easy to relate to making the reader believe that they truly exist in the world created by the author. The author describes the setting and places with the right amount of detail making it easy to imagine it all.

This is a perfect book for all the romantics out there and for fans of the first book Kiss Me, I’m Irish.

An unusual time travel story

I liked that this story focused on the anguish that time travel could cause. The woman, Sophie who time traveled, didn't belong in the post Civil War time that she found herself. She couldn't really settle in and belong , but she met a man who really needed her and she fell for him. It highlighted a stark time in our history - the post Civil War south.

Wow wow wow!
One of my favorite Bella Street books!
Absolutely loved the main character! She was kick butt, yet feminine in all the most perfect ways! Bella Street did an excellent job bringing the post-civil war war to life! Each character in this book brought depth and exposure to such a fragile/intense time in America’s history.
So put on your yoga pants and snuggle into this phenomenal masterpiece!

This was another interesting time travel book with romance and magic. Toward the last half, the author had Merritt using modern words like trafficking slaves and several other modernisms. Charming leading man.

Kiss Me, I’m Yours book 2

Sophie goes to the past when messing with some circle stones. Meets a farmer and a little girl. The more she helps the man and girl she likes them but still wants to go back to the future. She somehow gets back to the future then missed the past.

Excellent!

Such a realistic version of time travel. It shows how most modern people would freak at dealing with the differences in another era! Great read!

Though this is the second book in the Tennessee Waltz series, I felt it could be read as a stand-alone novel. It is another lovely, clean romance novel by Bella Street. The book starts with Sophie in a totally distraught state, out with her friends Karen and Vicki, trying to drink away the memory of her boyfriend Kevin cheating on her. After they drop her off at her apartment she decides to pay him a visit at his apartment, but when she gets to his house, she remembers that he isn’t alone. Instead of going inside, she throws a rock at a window. Rather than hearing the smashing of glass, she sees a blinding flash of light.

Suddenly she hears the voices of two men above her and realizes she must have passed out. When she opens her eyes, she sees that the men are wearing the uniforms of Yankee soldiers – they must be part of a Civil War re-enactment group. But they are planning on raping her!

To her rescue comes a man with rope burns around his neck and a young girl who doesn’t say a word. Sophie discovers she is in the year 1865. The man’s name is Gabriel and he is not the father of the young girl. Gabriel meanwhile discovers that it is the girl who cut him down when he tried to kill himself. He thought the girl arrived with the strangely-dressed woman he rescued. He takes both women in and sleeps in the barn.

This is a clean romance novel. There are no sexual scenes in the book and nothing beyond kissing. There is some swearing in the book however, which I mention for those who are sensitive to that.

All Sophie wants to do is go home. She finds however, that she has to conform to at least some of the rules of the society of that era. Going about in public in her yoga outfit is a definite no-no. Instead, Gabriel provides some clothing from his dead sister-in-law that she has to alter because it is too short – it comes to her mid-shin. She has to go to church, as does the rest of the small community. And she has to make a choice – marry Gabriel, or find someplace else to live. No unmarried woman in 1865 would live with a bachelor unless she was a “loose” woman. The problem is, most of the people in this town are hostile and the times are dangerous. She knows she is safe with Gabriel.

And what about the silent child? Sophie has named her Angela. Although she understands what Sophie is saying, she won’t speak, nor will go anywhere else. She’s made it clear that she wants to stay with Sophie.

I really liked Gabriel. He is kind, gentle, and lives what he believes. That’s what got him into the trouble he was in when Sophie first met him. He asks Sophie to marry him so that she can continue to live at his home and not damage her reputation. He is willing to wait until she is ready for any intimacies since this is a marriage of convenience.

This novel was a very engaging book. It has a different ending than I thought it might, but it was a very satisfying one. The end of this book also leads to a logical beginning for the third book of the series.

Bella Street’s writing is simple and easy to read. Her descriptions are clear and vivid. I gave this book a rating of four stars out of five. Clean romance fans should love it!

Thank you to the author, Bella Street for providing a copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review. A positive opinion was not required. All thoughts are my own.

Bella Street's Tennessee Waltz series where time travel is no obstacle for finding your soul mate continues with KISS ME, I'M YOURS. This time Sophie Bowen, a modern day yoga instructor, finds herself back in the post-civil-war era and not quite believing it. She's a modern girl used to modern conveniences and finds the life harsh and in many ways cruel. The only comfort she finds is in the GQ model gorgeous farmer, Gabriel Merritt who rescues her and takes her in. Gabriel is a man ahead of his time in his beliefs and ideology, he is a christian man who believes all men are created equal and should be treated with the same respect, which has earned him nothing but shunning and the loss of his position as the local minister.

When Sophie suddenly appears, along with an even more mysterious twelve year old girl they call Angela, Gabriel believes fate has sent her for him and quickly falls in love with her, unlike Sophie who takes a little bit of time to accept her new circumstances so she can realize how much Gabriel has come to mean to her. They go through some real serious trials and dangers through which they come to love and depend on each other. Sophie learns what it's like to be loved and valued by an honestly caring man and realizes just how lucky she was to escape her relationship back in her time with her deadbeat and cheating boyfriend.

Kiss Me, I'm Yours was an exciting story that kept my interest with a little bit of everything... mystery, history, fairies, time travel, danger, excitement, and most of all true love complete with a happy ending! 4 stars

[review also posted on my blog at http://beentherereadthatreviewedthebo...]

Bella Street draws me in to her books with the depth of characters and strong plot. Kiss Me, I’m Yours, sees the main character time travel back in time instead of travelling to the future like Emily does in Kiss Me, I’m Irish.

I loved how well developed the characters were. We learnt a lot about both the main characters, Gabriel, whose life was full of pain and hurt, and Sophie, who leaves behind her cheating ex-boyfriend to face the struggles of inadvertently travelling back in time to 1865. The more I learnt about Sophie and Gabriel, the more it made me root for them and this in turn really helped me enjoy the story.

I thought the story was probably slightly more enjoyable than book one in the trilogy. The beginning of Kiss Me, I’m Yours was fast paced and caught my attention straight away. The pacing then worked well for the rest of the book without rushing the story. I also liked the intrigue of the silent girl Sophie called Angela, and the small twists throughout the story always kept it entertaining.

I loved the ending too and found Kiss Me, I’m Yours to be engaging from start to finish. An even better installment than book one in the trilogy now leaves me anxiously waiting for book three, Kiss Me, I’m Home, to be released!

I always love Bella Street's novels and I had no doubt this one would be right up there with the others.

Street has a natural skill for story-telling. She can transport you, steel your heart, and educate you all before you even know what hit you. Her stories have such depth and tangibility-they're downright genius. Seriously.

Kiss Me, I'm Yours is a developing love story between two lost souls. Some more lost than others...no, really. Sophie finds herself in the wrong century and Gabriel finds himself at the end of his rope. Only in each other can they manage to make sense of all of it, and just in the nick of time.

I loved the characters and the gradual build up of these characters' stories and struggles. I was fully engrossed and completely swept up in a relationship that was forged out of convenience but grew to be much more.

Street has a story telling ability and flavor all her own. I wouldn't even know what book to compare it to. All I can do is to highly recommend it!

Sophie is trying to deal with her break-up from her 5 year relationship with Kevin. As if that isn't enough the IRS wants to audit her business. Wishing she didn't have to deal with this she goes out with friends and gets a little smashed. Her drunkenness turns into an unbelievable nightmare. She finds herself in another place and time. Everything is different. She meets a man, Gabriel, who needs her help as much as she needs him and a young mute girl, Angela. Sophie spends most of her time trying to figure out how to get back home only when she does she isn't as happy as she thought she'd be. I enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next book in the Tennessee Waltz series.
