What if letting them track your every move was the only way to survive?
Set in a future where money is non-existent because humans are "coded" since birth, anyone without funds in their accounts must live in a dark underground. Jason, having eluded to being coded his entire life, is forced to accept coding when his wife and new born daughter are kidnapped and he is close to death. With his every step now being recorded Jason must try and beat the system to find his family before he's found out.
The longer I am away from reading this short story, the more appreciative I am of it. This science fiction story plays with two highly debated topics in our modern times; flaws in our health care system and potential abuses in the advancements of technology. While I enjoyed reading this story, it's ending left much to be desired. It is because of the lack of a proper ending and that this story was simply to short that I gave this book three stars for "liked it" rather than a higher rating. However, even with it's brevity, I feel that it is worth the small price that the author is asking, as I found it to be action-packed, suspenseful, and it left me thinking about it long after I completed reading it.
A gripping and somewhat scary story set in the near future. It kept me hooked the whole way through and when it ended I wanted to read more and find out what happens next.
