Though Kimi ni Todoke is only her second series following many one-shot stories, it has already racked up accolades from various "Best Manga of the Year" lists. Winner of the 2008 Kodansha Manga Award for the shojo category, Kimi ni Todoke also placed fifth in the first-ever Manga Taisho (Cartoon Grand Prize) contest in 2008.
You know what, after reading this, I realized how brave I was really. I chose a specialty in senior high without considering which ones my friends were applying for. In college, I did not hesitate to choose the course I know I could do, it didn't matter if my friends were going to choose the same one themselves because they did not want to be apart from each other, I'd still pick my own. I always look out for what I know I can do easily. And that's freaking important. Decisions are hard, especially if you're going to be left alone. But you know, if you're going to choose something that's not going to be worth your time, it's useless. Your friends, they're always there. But the time is precious and you can't take it back.
God this series makes me anxious in the best but most aggravating way possible. I love all the characters and want the best ending for all of them, and I'd like to believe the story will go the easy route towards that, but there's a lot of realism in the choices Sawako and her friends have to make now that they're third years in high school. Especially with college, and the decisions they face there.
It's looking like most of them are contemplating leaving town to go to a school that best fits their goals/needs--aside from Chizu and Kazehaya, who seem set on staying.
I'm also super concerned about Kento and Ayane. Kento seems to take their relationship seriously, but it also comes across like he's just daydreaming and moving way too fast (talking about marriage before you're out of high school, really?). We do at least get to see Pin step up and act like a proper teacher, resulting in some interesting reactions from Ayane. Admiration, I hope.
I'm very excited to see where this story is going. Waiting for the next volume is going to be agonizing...maybe I'll just cheat and read it online, then buy it when it comes out here...
This is such a good coming of age series. Especially for high school kids making college decisions? I really hope everyone makes the right choices for themselves. (Don't go to a college just because that's where your s/o or friends are going, kids!)
This volume was mainly about the students having their career sessions with their homeroom teacher, Pin. I love Pin talaga. Next to Sawako, he's my favorite character here in this series.
He seems like a joke most of the time, but at the end of the day, he's still a teacher. A mentor, a coach.
And I'll always love the friendship of Sawako, Ayane & Chiziru. They're all so different from each other, but their friendship works.
And oh, if on another world, Sawako & Shota don't end up together, I'm team Sawako all the way. Hahaha!
Everything feels so serious. The kids are all looking at their futures, working hard to make the right decisions about the rest of their lives. The worry about choosing something that keeps them close wars against doing what's right for themselves. I look forward to seeing what choices they make as they move forward.
3/5 Volume 21 is still focusing on college prep and making life decisions. While I’m vested enough in these characters to see it through the last 9 volumes I fear that this will remain the focus until the end where everyone sadly says goodbye and moves on with their life. I get this would be how typical high school romances end I’m just hoping for more than that. Hopefully I will not be disappointed.
Ayane and Kento’s relationship is pretty awkward and hard to watch. I knew too many Kento’s in high school. Hell I probably was a bit of one, minus the popular and attractive part. Bummer he’s went from a lovable rogue to a bit of a “simp”.
All I can say is that after reading this, I'm so glad I wasn't dating another student when preparing to graduate from high school! Wow! So intense and so much angst right now that I'M nervous and can't handle it! LOL!
Okay, in this volume you can see that Pin can be wise and a good teacher that cares and notice the potential of each his student and encourage them to believe in themselves and pursue things that he believe they're capable for
PIN is surprisingly very wise, but his words reveal a scary truth- when you're young you have a lot of time to think about your options, but as an adult those decisions must be made immediately. It's so scary, but so true 😭
I gave it a four because of the honesty and insight this volume provided. Thank you.

2. chizu y sanada: No hablan.
3. Yano y Ken: Pobre ambos.
"Don't pretend that you understand. Don't pretend that you don't understand either. Don't worry. It's okay to be a kid. It's okay to do something crazy. I know you've been trying to act mature, but look around. There's a lot of things you can di without forcing yourself to act like an adult."
Not my favorite volume, but I still love the story.
You can definitely feel the pressure they all are as they are finally seniors in High School and all they hear is to make decisions and think harder about their future. It reminded me of my senior year (not the most pleasant of my life if I'm honest)
I like how many of the characters started the reviews of their career paths being sure of their choices and now they want different things, they have found out there have different options.
My favorite thing about this story is how the magaka is able to express their indecisions and realizations with just panels full of expressions and very little to no text. (same goes for those sweet romantic moments between Kazehaya and Sawako.) It makes it all so worth it.
I feel sorry for Miura, but I can't wait for Ayano to realize she likes Pin! *sorry not sorry* I'm also loving those moments between Sawako and Kurimi, since she has been wanting to be her friend for a while and this might just be the time to be "Amiga y Rivales". (That's the name of a Mexican Soap opera, about friends that are also rivals lol)
The last time I read a volume of Kimi ni Todoke was over 4 years ago. The series was stalling for me, and so I decided to take a break. Revisiting this series after such a long time was not hard at all; perhaps it's a tribute to the manga-ka's character development that I felt like I was revisiting old friends and able to jump right back into the story from where I left off without any problems. The story is a gentle telling of high school students as they prepare to graduate, pursue dreams, and maybe even say goodbye to friends as they move on with their lives.
Ahh reading this feels like being in high school all over again!
KNT really manages to depict what being a teenager feels like: friends, first loves, family and even your own struggles, like the anxiety of having to choose a career and thinking about the future (I felt that strongly back on my high school days).
I enjoyed this volume pretty much. All of our characters are growing up and trying to find their path in the world, it makes me want to cheer up for them! I hope they get to do what they really want.

The realism of this volume is too relatable. Thank god for Pin being the central thread weaving through all the different futures decision making. This volume kinda makes me miss the relative simplicity and structure of making decisions in my teens.
On a different note… the “thing” between Ayane and Pin is getting weirder. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to think is happening between them if anything is even happening between them 🤨
