Alisa Tangredi is my new favorite author. In this second installment of her 'Death's Order' series, I became emotionally invested immediately and lost myself in the story of Evlin and Hildie. Hildie is unwavering in her care for her little sister, Evlin, after they are brutally orphaned. They are completely devoted to each other and get by well enough for many years hiding in plain sight. Hildie always taught Evlin that someone would come looking for her some day, and that she must RUN! Neither woman knows, however, that they are already being hunted by two very different men, for two very different reasons.
It's not at all necessary to have read the first 'Death's Order' book - 'The Puppet Maker's Bones'- to fully enjoy this one. They are stand alone novels, with supporting cast members being the constant in both. The writing is powerful, and the story is intense. It was professionally edited, and I loved it. I recieved a free copy for review.

Wholly original take on the Angel of Death, so to speak. Well thought-out and superbly executed, this book belies the very real potential of the City of Angel's own Alisa Tangredi. This is a writer to watch. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

I would love to see this book on the big screen. It completely captivated and entranced me, and the characters were fascinating and sympathetic. Truly refreshing. Don't wait until Halloween to read this dark contemporary fantasy. Dive in today.

An enjoyable and unique read. I picked this book up at Vrohman's Bookstore in Pasadena, thinking I'd like to check out a 'local author,' and was pleasantly surprised. Well done, Ms Tangredi!

(I received this book for free as part of Goodreads First Reads giveaways).

(This review may contain spoilers).

I'm a bit torn about this book. I did like it overall, but there were a few things I wasn't that keen on.

The switching between present day and the past was interesting, but it did throw me a bit with the constant changes. I really liked the characters and the relationships in the book - but I think that Eugene and Evlin's relationship moved a bit too fast and I couldn't really believe in it. I would have liked to see more of them actually forming the relationship, rather than only having about three interactions - and the instant connection that is so very rarely done well.

I really liked the whole thing about how the different races evolved from different animals, though it wasn't exactly clear how cats and birds could evolve into mostly humanoids. I would have liked a bit more of a scientific explanation as to how it would be possible in the world of the book.

The fact that Evlin was the only female of her kind didn't irritate me as much as it can, but that, coupled with all her abilities that were so much better than the males, kind of made me think of every other, 'female only one of her kind' book that I've read or seen.

I really did like Evlin's relationship with her sister and the use of her feathers was quite an interesting one. There weren't a lot of POV characters which I liked, too, since I find too many POVs can get really confusing.

I did notice several errors in this book. There was nothing too major, but they were somewhat noticeable.

I'd probably be interested in reading a book following on from this one, especially since this book ended on something of a cliffhanger. It was a good read, but unfortunately, not one of my favourites.

Alisa Tangredi, has a unique understanding of that which makes many of us "sleep with one eye open". With her words she strikes that cord within that lets us see that sometimes the worst monsters are not those that derive from supernatural forces but mankind itself. Her series entitled, "Death's Orders", does this very well, indeed.

This is Book II and it is set in the city of Angels, this seems a fitting setting for a story that will not only mesmerize you, but have you reconsidering everything you think about life today. This gripping story starts out with a home delivery of the child or other adult, but by her own sibling. One child is human one child is an angel Elvie and Hilde are left to live by their own devices, because soon after Elvie's birth their mother dies. The children are being hunted, but for very different reasons.

Deargh McGovern is a man or something akin to it. His nights are filled with dreams of stories passed to him by his mentor. The battle between good and evil rages on. You will be intrigued until the very end and looking to find out more...

Although the worst thing in the world, it seems to me, would be to have to deliver your own sister into the world, there is something worse. That is what Hildie had to do for her sister Elvin. Not only that, she has to raise her by herself since shortly after the birth their mom dies.

Elvie is born with wings, real wings, which Hildie tries hard to hide and have removed. Unfortunately, since these appendages mysteriously grow back she soon abandons that tract. Deargh McGovern is also not quite human. He belongs to a circle of beings who you will never quite be able to tell whether they are good or evil. The thing is Elvin is being hunted by both and both want to use her for their own designs.

This is indeed, a page turner. Get ready for some on the edge of your seat excitement. Great job Alisa Tangredi…

A child was born and delivered by a sibling, following shortly after the mother passes away. This is not any child though, this is an angel. Taking place in the City of Angels these two girls were orphaned and left to fend for themselves emotionally. As Hilde looks after Elvie we learn that they are both being sought after by two men. The reason is very much different than the other. This book is very well written and is the second installment in The Death Order series. I have not read the first book, but it is not really necessary to be able to follow the second book. The Broken Angel’s Wings had me emotionally invested from the beginning. This was a very good book that had me thinking about it well after I was done reading it.

I really liked the switching back and forth from present and past. It might have confused some people but as it was a bit interesting I didn't have a problem with that. One thing I didn't really like was the relationship between Evlin and Eugene, I felt it should have been between Evlin and McGovern but that's just my personal opinion.
I liked everything expect I feel it could have been written a bit different; it all felt too rushed. I did love the ending tho, it left me overflowing with curiosity wanting to know what happened.

This was a wonderful book, even with one of my pet peeves about books being part of the story, what I call "Time traveling" which is switching from past to present and back and forth, I don't like that in my books, but I was able to handle it in this book because it had such a strong story line, this allowed me to keep up with where the characters were at the moment. And all without making me want to give up on the book.
Very well written!
