Sometimes we don’t get a chance to say what we need to say, or do what we need to do. Sometimes all we get is one final kiss.
Brittany has always been the epitome of strength and courage. For those lucky enough to be close to her, their lives have been forever changed for the better.
Her biggest fear, for so long, was not being able to be the wife and mother her husband and daughter deserve. The challenges she has dealt with would level the strongest of people, but she continues to fight and she has always come out on top.
Until now.
Nobody saw this coming. Nobody could have imagined what was waiting for this family. When the fight comes at you from those you trusted, it does more than hurt.
It destroys.
Bill can’t stop it. Jack can’t fix it. Stephanie can’t help it. Julie can’t fight it. Tommy can’t comprehend it. And Brittany…
Considering the last two novels were extremely disappointedly, this one knocked it out of the park as stellar! There was some instances where a chapter wasn't needed or contained too much fluff/filter. Huge improvement from the previous novel. What worked for me was the story continued to move forward; not one that continued to sob over and over again how much we love each other and save each other from the hospital roof. As Julie said once in a previous novel, "can we stop with all the back and forth and move forward?!" I agree with her so much and feel a relate to her best too.
Thought this novel, I surprised myself or was shocked at how far along I was within it. Nadler has a tendency to write extremely long novels and, for me, that doesn't work for her. The short ones, like this - my version is under 300 pages - work because even with that bit of filler, she works to get the action in and create the page-turner all novelist, I would hope, look to achieve. I really wish Nadler wrote like this throughout the series; only about three books have had that hook for me.
I really liked the future story of David's 16th birthday. In reference to soda during this scene, Nadler used the word "pop." I didn't mind it as I know it means the same thing; it's just something I haven't heard frequently in awhile (I'm also on the east coast).
In terms of these flash-forwards, I can't tell if some of these are real or dreams; of course, the ones that mention them as dreams are obviously dreams. This was one of the best flash-forwards to date, even if it felt a little incomplete.
The cliffhanger was good, but not great like others in the past. It needed a little bit more power behind it.
Such a fantastic book! This family loves each other so much, and is fighting to keep it together when all hell is breaking loose and sick, sadistic souls are trying to rip them apart. It is on to the next story!
