The Carter Trilogy #1

Claiming Carter

Rate this book
Lily Hayes is a beautiful 3rd grade teacher who enjoys her job very much, and has an amazing best friend who keeps her entertained. The only problem in Lily's life is that she always dates lame, boring, passionless men. No one has ever brought her any adventure. No one gives her excitement, and after being cheated on by her last boyfriend, Lily is ready for a change.

A change is exactly what she finds when she meets Kelvin Carter Jr. Kelvin is everything Lily wants in a man: sexy, passionate, spontaneous, attractive, powerful, and the best sex she has ever had. He is perfect. But perfection comes with a price. Kelvin may be exactly what Lily is looking for, but he is also a branch on a Chicago mob's family tree and the son of a notorious mob boss.

When the couple commences a heart-pounding, overwhelmingly sensual relationship, Lily must decide what she desires more; love and satisfaction, or her own safety.

Erotic/Suspense/Romance. This book is intended for mature audiences.

2.5-3 Hmm Okay Stars

Lily Hayes is a 3rd grade teacher who ends up with all the wrong guys.
men who cheat - check
men who are bad in bed - check
men who who don't know how to treat a woman- check

After catching her ex-bf cheating on her she is in a bit of a slump.her life is quite boring all she has is her job or random times she goes out with her best friend and with no guy in her life everything seems a little dull.

On a night out with her crazy loud mouthed best friend a stranger catches her eyes. She can't get him out of her head, hot, powerful and he dominates the room. She meets the stranger again when she heads out to grab a snack. She can't seem to believe how perfect he seems to be, obviously there has to be some sort of catch right?

Kelvin Carter Jr. seems to be perfect, he has it all and he knows how to treat a lady right..the catch you say? Well he may be the son of a notorious mob boss. That changes things right? Yup now the question is how is he meant to tell Lily this without losing her? I was getting annoyed at him at this point and screaming TELLL HEERRRRR!!!
There are a few twists which I thought were the best parts.I wanted Kelvin to be more in control and less controlled by the mob in a way he seemed to have something lacking in my opinion.

It was okay but it just didn't blow me away, I wanted it to grip me and so much more!
I didn't really feel connected with the characters..I liked her friend she was funny but she had her moments where I just wanted her to shut it and quit being so loud.

Most of the book is in Lilly's POV but we get parts of Kelvin and we get to see his side. I don't know what it was but hey here I was thinking it would have a lot more badass mob stuff in it which it really didn't, left me rather disappointed but maybe there will be more insight to the mob side of it in book 2?

oh oh Kelvin giggles.. are you fukin kiddin me?..sorry i just don't like it. A hot, strong, powerful man and then he giggles, totally killed it! haha
I felt like the conversation and them together was quite awkward at times and that made me uncomfortable, they just didn't mesh well.I wanted more chemistry!

There were parts that I enjoyed and thought oh this is going to get good but overall it just didn't pull me in, I very doubt I will read book 2 but hey that's just me, don't let my review put you off it coz it looks like a lot of other people enjoyed it.All them 5 stars is what made me think this would be awesome! pshtt

Wow this book totally rocked for me.
Lilliana is a teacher who has had her heart broke by her ex Tim. While out having a few drinks with her friend Lexy she spots a oh so hot male called Kelvin. He spots her as he walks by. They eventually bump into one another again and the sexual tension jumps out of the story.
These two need to overcome so much obstacles to be together. The storyline is fantastic and it had be gripped from start to finish.
This is a fantastic story that I'll be keeping on my kindle to re read!
Highly recommend this book.

(ARC received from author in exchange for an honest review)

Where Frozen Secrets has you reading from a mainly male POV, Claiming Carter is mainly female. I love the way that the author has successfully flipped this part of his writing and has managed to get inside the female mind and convince me, I was actually reading the thoughts of a female.

Lili is a 3rd grade teacher. She’s beautiful, caring, compassionate, young and in need of some excitement in her life. After walking in on her now ex with another woman she is left lonely and realises how unsatisfied she is with life and lack of passion and excitement. A chance meeting with Kelvin is set to change her life, in more ways than one.

Kelvin is hot, successful and dresses to impress. Although personally, his choice of shoes would totally put me off, can’t be having a man that has better shoes than me, HA! That’ll never do. He can have any woman he wants but that’s not who he is. He wants a woman who can see past his looks, money and family and who sees him for who he is. He wants to have found that in Lili. We don’t get to hear much from Kelvin but what we do hear works really well with the context of the storyline.

W.S Greer is known for writing a good suspense book. However, his ability to bring his books alive with a touch of comedy shows the diversity in his writing style as his storylines progress. Let’s get it right, life is not all doom and gloom and there are occasions where you smile, no matter how bad things are. It’s this ability to bring the comedy factor into his suspense books that make them more real, it allows you to connect on a deeper level with it. Don’t get me wrong, you’ll need a new manicure (nail biting) and back massage (sitting on the edge of your seat) from reading Claiming Carter. But you’ll also laugh out loud; I managed to wake my kids up this morning laughing at this book. When you read the scene in the nurses’ office you’ll understand. Quite funny.
I LOVE Lexy, she reminds me of my best friend. In fact I wouldn’t mind seeing maybe a little novella of Lexy and Mike…… hint, hint.
Another thing I love about this book is the language that is used. The interaction between the characters is the same interaction you would have with the people around you. I even got embarrassed a few times on behalf of Lili. We’re talking my face going red, having to read through my fingers embarrassed. It just works really well to draw you in and bring the plot to life, the book becomes interactive with its readers due to the writing style. This is a book that doesn’t allow you to read the words, it makes you visualise it. You have no control over how deep this book draws you in; it just pulls at you until you are consumed.
I’ve made no secret of the fact that I don’t like descriptive books and books where the character spends most of their time having ‘inner battles’. They bore me plain and simple. W.S Greer has the balance right with Claiming Carter. In fact he has the right balance with all aspects of the book. Take the erotic scenes for example, it’s very tempting to overkill on erotic scenes and turn the book in to more sex than substance. I love the way that in this book the erotic scenes are more of a natural progression than the characters be at it like ‘rabbits’ all the way through. The erotic scenes are hot, no doubt about it. I think the fact that they are a natural progression makes them hotter. Lili and Kelvin’s story is far from over and if like me you’re not a big fan of cliff-hangers then there is no need to worry! The book comes to a natural end with the understanding the story is far from over. I love you for that Mr Greer!!

All in all W.S Greer has managed to impress me again with his writing and has shown he can be diverse with it. He keeps you on your toes and has you coming back for more. The book is real; real language, real characters and flows amazingly well. If you are looking for a book that has suspense, passion, makes you laugh and characters you can connect with then this is the book for you.

This book deserves much more than 5* but alas I can only rate it more on my blog and to be honest I’m not sure I can put a star rating on it, it’s kinda priceless. For the purpose of Amazon & Goodreads the book gets 5* but as I’ve said it would be more.

Claiming Carter is a suspenseful, mysterious, erotic, romance that will have you craving more of Kelvin Carter Jr. The book follows Lillian “Lily” Hayes and Kelvin Carter Jr. on a romance where finding love is tough to manage.

Kelvin is a 22 year man always dressed to impress, in suites with matching shoes, and watches. He has short hair, perfectly trimmed beard, heavily tattooed chest, and flawless caramel skin. He has a powerful vibe and grace about him that makes others look his way.

Lily is a beautiful, 22 year old 3rd grade teacher in Chicago. She is beautiful young women with light skin, jet-black bob hair cut, a pierced nose, and blue eyes. She is on the rebound from a bad relationship where her last boyfriend cheated with an older woman.

Lily and her best friend, an out-spoken spit-fire, Lexy are out having drinks at their local stomping ground, Applebee’s. They are talking and laughing about Lily’s failed relationships and as luck would have it, Lexy spots Kelvin Carter Jr. sitting with a group of men. When Lily and Kelvin’s eyes meet and you just know they are going to have amazing chemistry, **Excerpt** Lily: “I couldn’t stop staring. It was like I was watching a model during a photo shoot.” The two of them don’t actually talk that night, but he defiantly makes in appearance in her thoughts.

It isn’t until the next night when Lily is at the gas station, that they meet. Kelvin remembers the beautiful girl from Applebee’s and asks her to dinner. Lily is shocked and accepts eagerly and their steamy romance ensues. Even though there are bumps, twists, turns, secrets, and mystery Kelvin Carter Jr. and Lily have an amazing connection that will leave you wanting more!

**Excerpt**
"Kelvin didn’t say a word. He just stood in the doorway with his hand still on the doorknob, staring at me. I noticed his eyes drop down to my lips, and then pop back up, as he again locked his eyes with mine. We stared at each other for what seemed like an eternity. Then, Kelvin took a step forward and grabbed me by the hand, pulling my body close to his."

Want more of this steamy, mysterious romance? Add this book to your TBR list and purchase as soon as it’s released!

***Bonus – it’s going to be a series, so we will all get more of Kelvin Carter Jr.

Flippin' LOVED it! It had me laughing from Chapter One when the ladies were at the bar in Applebee's being hit on my a homeless guy and a nerd. If you read Frozen Secrets by W.S. Greer, then you know that he begins his books with a peek at the backstory for what you are about to read. Then you are slowly allowed to see more and more of the plot until all is revealed toward the end. It keeps you reading because you HAVE to know what the beginning is leading up to. You think you know and then damn, something you never saw coming smacks your ass in the face. You know what I like best of all? This is a series, so we get more of Mr. Carter. I cannot wait to read more from this author and about these characters- this was a GREAT book, start to finish.

Lilliana thinks there is no way she is going to find love with the right guy- she keeps finding any and every loser that comes her way, from a premature ejaculator to a man who cheats with co-workers, Lily thinks all she can attract are the lowest of the low, because unlike her friend Lexi, she is just not the woman to tell a guy to get lost when he shows interest. Then she meets Mr. Kelvin Carter Jr. and everything gets turned on its head. He is the sexiest, most powerful, attention grabbing man she has ever seen and the fact that from the moment she sees him he monopolizes her every waking and sleeping thought baffles her. She thinks their one chance look at one another one night in a bar is all there will ever be, until he finds her again in the gas station chip aisle.....read this book, I am telling you it will not be a wasted venture. 5 stars all the way. Loved it. <3 Kellie

Lily is a sweet school teacher and she, without a doubt, loves her job. She definitely needs some better luck with men though.

Kelvin is a sexy and dangerous man. He happens to be in the mob, with his father being the head boss.

Kelvin notices Lily when she is out with her best friend and fellow teacher, Lexy, one night but can’t do anything about it right then. When they bump into each other again the second time, he knows he has to have her and can’t let her go again but is it too dangerous for her? Can he ever tell her the truth about what he does for a living? Can Lily handle the truth?

This book had it all; there is danger, love, erotic sex, laughter, sadness and suspense all wrapped into one awesome enthralling book. I absolutely loved it! This is the first in the series, so it would stand to reason that there would be something of a cliffhanger at the end but I have to say that Mr. Greer did one heck of an awesome job with the ending of this book as it leaves me wanting more but not frustratingly so.

I can not wait to read more about Kelvin and Lily in book 2 and more from Mr. Greer period!

OMG~Kelvin Carter Jr is a beautiful man. Yes,its not often I would describe a man as beautiful, but Kelvin most certainly is. He is perfection, great looking, has a gorgeous tattooed body, dresses like a model,is masculine.strong, loving, caring and has an emotional side too.

Liliana Hayes "Lily" is a petite and pretty, third grade teacher. Lily, lives a fairly quiet life. After recently walking in on her boyfriend, getting a blowjob from the School Nurse, she is wondering if she will ever meet a decent guy.

The only time Lily goes out is to have drinks once in a while with her best friend and co-worker,Lexy. Its on one of these nights out with Lexy, that Lily and Kelvin first set eyes on each other.

You MUST READ this book,as what follows is an awesome story, filled with Romance,Lust,Love,Sex,Happiness,Danger,Sadness and so many more emotions.
I absolutely loved "Claiming Carter" I could not stop reading. I'm so glad that this is part of "The Carter Series",as I definitely want more of Kelvin Carter Jr. Trust me~you will want more Kelvin too!!!!

Kelvin Carter Jr...HOLY SHIT! WOW! Loved this book. Cant wait to see what happens to them in Becoming Carter!

I happened to hear about this author and decided to check his book out. I am glad that i did! this was a great read. it follows the story of Lily and Kelvin and it had me hooked from their first encounter :) Lily is drawn to him from the first time she sees him, but nothing happens until they happen to be at the same gas station and from there I was hooked and their story takes off :) not giving away spoilers, but you will love it. her best friend is hilarious..love her! kelvin and lily have ups and downs but throw in her crazy ex and kelvin's profession and it will have u wanting more.. things happen and things are revealed and you cant help but root for these two. Based on the ending, I cant wait for book 2 (Becoming Carter) to see how their story continues :) If you havent read this, check it out. you wont be disappointed!

I have got to say that W.S. Greer completely blew me away with this book. I was a little unsure before I started to read this book. I didn't know what to think since this was the first exotica book I have read that was written by a male author. I can now say it was beyond any expectations I had. I felt like I was easily able to connect with Lillian and of course fell instantly in love with Kelvin. Kelvin is everything a girl could want. He is tall, dark and sexy! He is a bad boy with tattoos but not bad enough to show his passionate side. Trust me when I say he will have you as soon as you hear those three words "I got you"!!

OMG!!!! Kelvin is hot!!!!!!
Ok, now that I got that our of my system...Claiming Carter was amazing! I was skeptical about reading a book in a female POV written by a man(I know women write the man's POV all the time) but I was blown away by W.S. and his writing of Lily's POV. I think he hit it on the head. Lily's voice was great. It did strike me as a bit odd that when he was talking about Kelvin (away from Lily) it was in the 3rd person, but it made more sense as the book went along. I can't wait for the 2nd book to come out.

I don't know why I ever thought this was going to be a serious mob romance. The occupation in the blurb was enough to let me say no. Still, I thought maybe the author would prove me wrong. Guess I placed too much faith in an author I've never read before.

I don't know of a black mafia but I went with the flow anyways because, once again, I thought the author would prove me wrong. Surprise, she didn't! (UPDATE: Upon reading reviews after writing mine, I found out that this author is a man. It changed my whole outlook on this novel but I don't think it fair to pen based on a gender change. Guess that serves me right for not reading the acknowledgement!)>

I don't know if it was the intention of the author for it to read like a sunshine and flowers Stepford wife was narrating but that's exactly what it was. Twist? She is described to look and act like the perfect white trailer trash both in and out of bed. But with a superiority complex. She is a teacher after all. -_-

Still, I could overlook all that if everything else wasn't so overly dramatic and for a book centered on someone who wants passion in her life, she somehow made this novel as passionate as staring at a passion fruit.

I honestly don't think I will be continuing this series because it's just too flat and not my speed. Carter is interesting but Lily is too naive and well, stupid. Their "drama" is pretty stupid and the continued reference to every ostentatious item is just plain stupid. Get the drift? It was like a 14 year old's bad boy fantasy. As my reading OCD pulls, I plan on pushing back because I am over the Cristal and penguin shoes. It's just way too much.

2.5 eh stars.

It's been awhile since I've read a good mob story. It's too bad I'm going to have to keep waiting to read one because this is not it.

It started off rocky right away. I have to say, I am utterly disgusted and offended by how these so called "teachers" are portrayed. Yes, I realize this is fiction, but come on. There's fiction and then there's over the top, just plain WRONG. And sex, of any kind, on elementary school grounds DURING SCHOOL HOURS is just completely and utterly morally wrong. Unfortunately, this is something that is brought up at the very beginning of the book and for me, kind of set a negative tone for the rest of the book. ESPECIALLY since I happen to be the parent of two children in elementary school, one even being in the third grade. I WOULD have been able to eventually look it over, and had almost dismissed it. Except it isn't something that gets left in the past, but rather something that ends up happening again. So yeah... it kind of ruined the entire book.

I was also disappointed in the decidedly lack of "mob" type activity. Yeah, Kelvin has a few "Family" meetings, but honestly there's nothing mob related whatsoever going on. With the exceptions of the prologue and a tiny bit at the end. So.... yeah. It definitely falls way short on that one.

Lily is quite a whiny little thing also. Yeah, you got cheated on. OK. We get it. Does it need to be hashed out in every single chat with the BFF Lexy? Also concerning Lily- she comes across as quite rude to me. Sure, she makes a big deal about Kelvin's manners and how he opens doors or waits for her before he starts eating. But it seems she takes every opportunity she can get to bring up his wealth or make comments about the cost of certain things. Isn't that, in itself, rude?

I wish I could say I was surprised by how certain event turned out. But the "who did it" part was quite obvious.

There are also some mild editing/proof reading issues. Nothing major. The biggest thing that irked me was actually the use of the word "clinched" as opposed to "clenched" a few times. I know it's not a HUGE thing, but they are in fact two different words with similar but completely different meanings.

I DID like Lexy. She's hilarious. Maybe a little TOO over the top and at times completely immature. But she was still fun. I also adored Kelvin for the most part. He was very sweet and affectionate with Lily, but not to the point that it became annoying.

Overall- I don't recommend this. I definitely am not invested enough into it to want to continue reading.

I am all for sex in public/odd places. But I draw the line at places where children are concerned. This happened three times. Not cool!

I struggled with this book. My biggest beef was the writing style. One minute it was detailed, the next it seemed rushed. There didn't seem to be any build up to the relationship, it seemed like a lot was left out but there was so much repetition, boredom set in real quick. Love came, but I don't even know how or why.

This book was teetering at 2 stars, but got bumped up to three because there was suspense, albeit cheesy. There was a build up from the very beginning of the book. What I didn't like was how it was revealed. You had this extravagant build up, then BLAM! The reveal was within a couple of sentences. Big let down.

Characters:

I don't usually judge characters (because they are who they are), but Lily and Lexy were a pair. I understand a woman scorned, but did they have to bring up the cheating thing every chapter? Sometimes twice. Like Angela says 'move on'. Lexy had almost a decade of experience on Lily, but she was just as childish if not more so. Lily had high standards but did nothing to preserve them. She, basically, wanted commitment but acted like a slut. She was too green for my taste.

The only thing that kept me reading was to find out the plot that started from the prologue.

Sexy, Intense, EEKKKK, Awesome! I absolutely think Kelvin Carter Jr. is HOT! Yes, it has everything included in this story. Extremely HOT characters (oops already said that but a serious point). The unbridled passion between Lillian and Kelvin make you want to go lock yourself behind a closed door for a while for sure. But even in addition to the jaw dropping sex, it has a great suspense/mystery looming throughout the story. Yes!! Fantastic!!

Seriously, if anyone who was as absolutely as gorgeous a Kelvin said either of the following most breathtaking quotes...well, I would be in up to the top of my head!

"I haven't made the best decisions in my life, but I'm making up for that now, starting with you. Because when I look at you, it's like I'm dreaming with my eyes open. Dreaming to be better- to do better. When I look at you I want to be better than..."

"You were like a rainbow in a sky that had been storming for the past three months, since my brother died. So, you see, you can't ask me for too much. You can't pressure me, either. Because I want you, Lillian"

Lillian ans Kelvin have this magic together that is jumping off the page into your heart and into your lap. I am giving this a 10 out of 5 stars!

Well, this was my second book from the author WS Greer. The first book was the Kingpin.
And both books had the same flaws and the same boring story and boring outcome.

The flaws, let's start with them.

The female characters in both books were not my taste. Their love for superficialities is annoying. They are both pretty naive at times. They both are not one bit interesting in their characters. It is tough for me to describe it. There is nothing special or intriguing about them. And both their thought processes felt off a lot of times.
That all made the love connection so ridiculous and i could not for one bit see the "one of a kind" connection they apparently had and felt. There was no substance behind it. Because i didn't feel a thing. Ok, he drives a cool car, a cool bike, he looks awesome and all. But that equals a teenager crush, not a special connection or even love in the adult world, at least for me. As we have a love grown from childhood in the Kingpin book, which excuses a lot. We have nothing like this with the Book Claiming Carter.

The male characters, had a nice touch by showing also an emotional side. Not afraid of shedding some tears. But while Dominic grew into a man, Kelvin appears like a lost young adult. Just not appealing, for my age group.

Which leads me to the storyline. It was nice but boring. And again the main focus is on useless thoughts and repeating themselves. Instead of going in deep and raw. Going for the good stuff. Both first books just sort of aimlessly drift along.
There are a lot of other things i could address, but i guess those are the main problems i had with these two books.

There is a lot of potential, but so far both book series didn't reach it. They have similar flaws. Sadly not one book made me want to read the next installment.

A new to me author I had high hopes for.

I had actually read the blurb for this one so I was excited, but the longer I went through I couldn’t help but cringe at how the events played out, starting with the prologue. I barely got through it, and when I did the excitement went down for me. It had great spice but I feel like that was the only redeeming quality about the book. As it went on it was easier to read but that excitement was low for me so I hope book 2 can pick it up again. W.S Greer is a new to me author and I hope one I can eventually add to my faves list.
.
The writing style was a bit stunted for me. Like I could tell it was someone writing out of themselves as opposed to putting themselves in the characters so it felt very disconnected for me. But I will say it did improve the further in you get so it made it easier to read. I did like the characters but I also felt that some parts needed more work. Again the disconnect came in for me in those areas otherwise it was good character building and the growth was noticeable.
.
The world build was ok. Could have used more details in a few areas. In a lot of ways it was very vague but in the places where it was detailed, it was great. It was easy to read plot wise and easy to follow so there wasn’t much work that needed to be done there. I pushed through because of it and by the end I was glad i made it and I will end up giving a go at the second book. Let’s hope I can connect to it and it will be a better read but I have high hopes.

What an amazing read

Start and finished within one day. This book is a page Turner. I love all the little details about the cars and vehicles, you can tell those were important to the author. The plot just kept getting better and better! That ending though! What a giant hook! So very pleased with this book, can't wait for the next!

Skipped to the End

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was kind of disappointed as far as mafia romances go. I ended up skipping to the final chapter to see how the story ended as I was struggling to stay interested in this. The plot had so much potential but I felt let down. The pace of the book made everything seemed rush and not drawn out.

This was ok. I liked Kelvin but felt he needed someone more than Lily. Lily just seemed way too naïve where Kelvin seemed older that what he was supposed to be. I will most likely read the next in series though.

Boring story and 2D characters

Boring story and 2D characters. Don't water your time on this. I thought it would improve as I went along... It doesn't.
