The famous playwright Alain Vinel gets involved, without being aware of it, in a very complex case of blackmail. If one day he tries to help an ex-girlfriend, it turns out to be an ambush. He gets even deeper in trouble when he finds a dead body in the room of the girlfriend. When the police start to consider him as an accomplice to murder, he can only think of one way to save his skin: find the real murderer.
At first sight the murder in this typical French 'roman de policier' is an open and shut case. But in no time it unfurls into a complex and well-composed mystery. Although no superlatives are applicable to this book, it delivers what can be expected from a good detective story: simple two-dimensional characters put into a captivating plot. The surprising conclusion is the icing on the cake.
