Haru's big brother suddenly appears with unclear motives. What is clear is Haru's hatred for his big brother. Haru disappears at the sight of his big brother and Mizutani is left with even more questions about Haru. What are her feelings for him? How can she make him like her? And what is the deal with his big brother?
This was just as entertaining as the first book, I laughed so much, it was hilarious. There were more characters and I loved all of them. The plot just gets better and better and I can't wait to see what's going to happen next. I'm interested to see what roles the characters will play in the next volumes. And I can't wait to catch up to the part I was in the anime.
I'm always just waiting. Waiting for someone to reach out to me. But at the same time, I'm really self-conscious and a coward.
This is the second volume in the My Little Monster series. It is about a cold-hearted girl named Shizuku, who studies and works hard. Haru is a guy who stopped going to school after he was suspended on the first day. He feels that everyone is scared of him and avoids school because of it. Shizuku was given the job to give Haru his homework and convince him to come back to school. Ever since these two met each other, they felt a strong feeling for each other. They are both confused and happy to have met each other. Meeting new friends, going on adventures and having fun, this manga will keep the reader entertained.
The characters in this manga are so easy to relate to. Each and every one of them have one thing that I can relate to and it makes me feel relieved. Shizuku is such a great character, she cares about studying and keeping up with her grades. Haru is crazy and I didn't expect him to be so funny. Ooshima is not that confident, but she is a great character. Natsume is awesome and positive, she wants to be closer to Shizuku. Sasayan is a great character, but I want to learn more about him. Misawa is cool and he is super nice as well.
The bonds between these characters are so strong. Shizuku and Haru's relationship is confusing but sweet. I love how honest they are with each other, when it comes to manga or anime, there are so many dense characters who don't see the obvious truth. But Shizuku and Haru just spit out their feelings like it's normal and I love that about them. Haru's relationship with his brother is crazy, I don't even understand it because of how weird it was.
I can't wait to read the next volume, it's so much fun reading this manga. There is so much going on, they even have a chicken named Nagoya! It's exciting and funny, and never fails to surprise you. I highly recommend this to everyone!
The second instalment in this manga series was not nearly as good as it could have been.
Shizuku and Haru seemed to have reached the point in their relationship where how much they liked each other trumped everything else, to the extent that Haru could do things that were wrong and instead of addressing it immediately Shizuku would just accept it or ignore it. This sort of dismissive attitude held Haru’s character back from taking responsibility for his own actions and making vital character progression away from the violent delinquent archetype that is static and uninteresting.
The inclusion of Haru’s brother made for some welcome exploration of Haru’s backstory, but in terms of the plot the brother didn’t do anything but taunt the characters and make a deal with Haru to continue doing what was already doing. It was so illogical and unnecessary that it felt forced and also a waste.
And as if all of that wasn’t enough to disappoint you, the last chapter of the manga saw such a drastic reversal of character progression for the protagonist Shizuku that she essentially lost any part of her that had previously made her interesting. It was so bizarre and unexpected that it, too, felt forced which left me wondering whether anything in this vol was well-crafted, apart from the odd sweet-smiling moment brought about by Haru abandoning his established personality almost to the same extent that Shizuku did at the end (which only further highlights the problem of a lack of character integrity to begin with).
Haru and Natsume's friendship is just so heartwarming. They rule the world, together side by side, with Sasayan tagging along whenever. On the other hand, Shizuku becomes the on-looker, the observer of the world that is beginning to unravel before her eyes. After all the hard work and studying that made her satisfied all these years, there are still some things in life that are unbeknownst to her. It turned out just like that pot in their backyard, her heart is still empty... untouched with life. But it's about to change... it's going to be filled with it someday.
First of all, can someone explain what exactly Haru's brother wanted from him? Did he want Haru to come with him to their father or not? Does he want him to dropout of school and go to his father?
Anyway, I'm just confused at the part otherwise, the story is OK. Still, I can't wrap my mind with this series.
There is a love rival for the protagonist and Haru seems to not understand his feelings towards Shizuthani.
Also, I feel like its Sawako and Kazehaya-kun all over again in a slightly different perspective. The misunderstandings and increase in popularity of Haru, it is like Sawako's misunderstanding and popularity increase. But it is obvious that both the series has a different aura around it. (I referred to the characters from Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You, Vol. 1 manga series which I have read previously.)
Ahhhh! I don't know what to think!! UGH! 3 stars because I couldn't get what Haru's brother really wanted and because I can't seem to wrap my mind around it... where will this story go... lets in the next volume.
I want to love this series. And I am enjoying it. But it just doesn’t have me super excited for it.
It’s cute, there’s some good humor in this. Maybe I’m just not attached to the characters enough. And I don’t really love any of them. Mizutani isn’t bad, and I do like seeing her grow and figure out her feelings. I don’t mind Haru, either, although I think I thought I would find him more adorable or something. There are other minor characters, and I like them enough.
We met a new character in this volume, who might be competition for Mizutani. We also met Haru’s brother, which caused some drama from Haru and for Mizutani.
I’m just not hugely attached, or in love with anything. It’s not really grabbing me. I want it to, really badly. But it’s not.
I’m still definitely going to be sticking out this series for a while longer, and I hope it really hooks me soon. But right now, it’s not.
The cover isn't the best representation of this cute story.
The story is progressing at a really good pace. It does seem to drag a little in some places, but it makes up for it in other scenes.
The characters begin their character development in this one. I thought the way they did it was such a roller coaster. The MC says herself that she doesn't even remember how she used to be. So there is quite a lot of change in just two books!
Honestly, the way the author draws is so fun! I think the problem with it is that either the nose is too short, or the mouth is too low. I really like the way they draw Haru's hair!
Haru and Mizutani continue their awkward and tumultuous romance in this second volume and the quirkiness and humour abound as they attempt to understand each other and themselves. It’s cute in a non-cringy way and I continue to enjoy both of them as characters and the growing group of friends around them add interesting aspects, as well as the added mystery of Haru’s brother and a past he refuses to share. I will definitely continue to the read the series!
Snapshot review: It's two idiots in love but with ridiculously good communication? Shizuku, my cold cold girl, is floundering at the moment but I love how she's taking the time to try and figure things out for herself in all aspects of her potential relationships, romantic and otherwise.
I really like the characters and I think the romance is cute. I like the new character that has been introduced, but I really don't want this to turn into a love triangle.
At the time of this review, I read volumes 2 and 3 back-to-back with volume 4 already read.
After reading four volumes of this series (1, 4, 2, 3), I have no idea what to think about this series. I will continue to read it, because I want to see where all of this ends up. That is all I am going to say for this volume, unless I get some inspiration.
My Little Monster continues with Haru avoiding his brother. There's a great amount of animosity he projects concerning his brother. He even lashes out because of his issues with his brother. With this volume we learn more about Haru's past, a connection with one of his friends, and a little understanding of why Mizutani cares only for her grades. I'm sympathizing with these characters now which is really wonderful because I really wanted this second volume of the series to be excellent which it is. I have no little things that bugged me at all. My Little Monster is very fast becoming a favorite manga of mine.
Mizutani opens up even more after her last talk with Haru. I was confused at the ending of the last book on how Haru stood with his interests in Mizutani but everything was clarified in this continuation. After Mizutani's speech last time you can see that maybe Haru was too quick to say he didn't like her that way.
I can't believe it was possible but these two dorks got even more adorable this time around. I really liked how Mizutani was very sweet towards Haru even more this time around. Although, a new girl creates a little bit of tension between Haru and Mizutani. I'm curious to see if this new girl becomes part of the group. It's highly likely because she's on the cover of the next book or maybe there will be more tension concerning these three. I also would like to see this guy who was around in the first book who I feel like might be another potential love interest for Mizutani. I don't really want the two MC's to not get together but maybe the other boy provides more entertainment - you never know.
I'm really liking how Mizutani friends are helping her branch out. Sasayan and Natsume are both very pleasant characters. It would be nice to see their own stories/backgrounds a little more and for them to get love interests as well. I don't think Sasayan likes Mizutani which is what I thought last time around. He's just very nice and there doesn't seem to be any crushing going on there. It would be great to get a little more character development with him and Natsume however, right now I'm content with the amount of entertainment I'm getting from the main story.
This was a very sweet and somewhat illuminating second book of My Little Monster. I'm really enjoying this series. Unfortunately, it's not all out in English yet and my library only has the first two copies. I hope I'll be able to continue on this series this year after a while because I simply love it.
Haru’s estranged brother makes a forcible entrance in Volume 2. While he’s not wild like Haru, he has his own flavor of quirkiness. His appearance causes all sorts of inconveniences for Shizuku, but more interesting than his hijinks is what he reveals about the Yoshida family. Shizuku also continues to struggle with her romantic feelings for Haru, but it’s really Haru and Yuzan’s sibling dynamic that dominates this volume.
The Review
Summer break in high school manga often means vacation arcs that feature characters in a more relaxed, non-school setting, but Robico limits the holiday pages to one chapter. Although it’s disappointingly short, we do get to see Haru and company at the beach (in a brief four-page stint) and on a fishing trip in the mountains. Haru is his usual wild and reckless self, and Shizuku is serious as ever despite the different settings, but toward the end of the summer break chapter, we get an interesting development: the introduction of Haru’s older brother Yuzan.
We caught a glimpse of Yuzan in Volume 1, but in Volume 2, he really steps in to invade Haru’s life. One of the mysteries of this manga is the root cause of Haru’s unique personality. With Yuzan’s arrival, we don’t get all the answers, but the information he provides about the Yoshida family is certainly enough to keep readers interested and pique curiosity about Haru’s dad.
In addition to Yuzan, we get another new character: Class Representative Oshima. She leads an isolated existence, similar to the kind Natsume, Shizuku, and Haru used to have at school, but her lack of friends isn’t due to a wacky personality. Rather it stems from a gloomy attitude and a lack of initiative. She gets thrown into the story mainly to cause strain in the Haru/Shizuku relationship. While Oshima’s crush on Haru does create an emotional stir for Shizuku, who is still sorting out her feelings for Haru, the meek class representative is hardly aggressive enough to spark a love triangle. In fact, she looks likely to be overshadowed by the rest of the cast.
Extras include four-panel comics interspersed through the book and translation notes.
I read this series on a whim while waiting for Ao Haru Ride updates. I never expected to love this one so much!! I love the illustrations of the mangaka and the plot of the story too. It's filled with cutesy scenes and such (though not all of it).
The story starts with a misunderstanding on Haru-kun's side, as he thinks that Shizuku is a friend of his. The guy is pretty dense on just about everything though, so that explains it. From this encounter then starts a rollercoaster ride.
Shizuku (the female protagonist) on the other hand, is so straightforward (and I love that about her) up towards the end.
I wouldn't want to overhype this read because I'm probaly late but this is really good. Towards the end of the manga made me feel somewhat unhappy because it was coming to an end and when it did ended I felt empty (and the never ending search for the next best manga begins! ;/). So much for that, I want/ed to read more of this.
A large portion of this manga takes place during summer break, so Mizutani's one personality trait (studying) becomes nonexistent for the time being. The author's comment at the end of the volume makes complete sense in why this series is garbage:
"Every now and then when I'm planning the storyline, the plot starts to get fuzzy in my head. Whenever that happens, I tell myself, 'this is a romance manga!' Which just confuses me more..."
That being said, I might continue the series because I have Kindle Unlimited and many volumes are available on there. But, seriously, the author speaks for herself; this series is a jumbled mess of dumpster fire.
Still cute, still funny and slowly building up the characters for more :) Haru is so ODD! i really like him but there's something that makes me not LOVE him. Difference to Shizuku who I love already, she is not as blank and clichè as she could have been (I think I already pointed that out but it is bc I'm really happy about it) I mean she didn't ignore her feelings (what I thought she was going to do) and she went for it, and when things didn't go as she wanted she kept her cool. Kudos to you girl
Kinda dragged in the middle, but still really enjoyed it! I don't really like the other girl right now, she felt a bit flat for me. I'm guessing she'll be around for the rest of the series so we'll see if my opinion about her change later on. Also, I'm so intrigued with Haru's brother. I'm so hoping to see more of him!
Anyway, that was such a cliffhanger in the end!!! Whaaat, is Shizuku giving up?!?!?! Noooo!!!
Continuing from Vol. 1, this story picks up from where the girl now thinks she likes the guys, and the guy thinks he just wants to be friends. I still gave it 4 stars, but if things continue to develop as they have been future volumes won't be rated so highly. The character development is just weird. Why did she suddenly like the guy? Why did he suddenly not like her? Makes very little sense.
