I. Loved. This. Even though I was close to bawling my eyes out in the middle. Ahem.
I admit I bought this mainly because of Fujiyama Hyouta's illustrations - I'm still a beginner when it comes to reading BL novels (a part of me suspects that won't be the case much longer) so I don't really know which writers are good or not. But again, I chose well.
Kamimura has just finished university and is working his first job at a company which produces copying-machines and such. He's good-looking, but rather anti-social by nature, and not very happy about his job and the people he has to work with. After about two months, he meets Banse, his former senpai from his basketball club in middle school and they end up going for a drink. One thing leads to another, and Kamimura ends up drinking way too much, and Banse carries him home. In order to repay him, Kamimura invites Banse for dinner, and the two end up meeting more and more frequently and getting closer. When they spontaneously spend a night at an onsen, Banse suddenly kisses Kamimura, who is understandably shaken by it. Things develop from there, but just when Kamimura realizes he has fallen in love with Banse, Banse disappears...
What I loved most was the slow development. You can really see the growing friendship between them unfolding, and while I was a bit taken aback by Banse's behaviour sometimes, once you've read the whole novel it makes sense. And I loved how Banse became more and more an important part of Kamimura's life, and his confusion regarding his feelings felt very real (apart from the fact that he's never really bothered by the fact that Banse's a guy, but whatever, this is BL). Kamimura's also a very active uke - the fact that he's uke is clear pretty much from the start, but it's still not the typical uke-seme relationship at all.
The sex scenes were both hot and moving (although I do wonder whether the fact that I never really much cared for them when I read English translations is because of the translation or because I understand English better and thus am more critical or because only not-so-good BL novels are translated), and as I mentioned in the beginning, in the middle/ last third of the book I had a hard time to stop myself from crying because it was rather upsetting. It's all well in the end, though.
I really loved the relaxed feeling between the two guys, and I loved that Kamimura didn't just let himself be dragged along by Banse. And I think what I loved most was that when they first sleep together, Banse treats Kamimura "gently". I don't know, up until then I was always worried everything would be ruined by a too-rough-sex scene (something that can happen in BL), and the fact that it wasn't made it perfect.
