There is no element in Quaker faith and practice that commands such unanimous conviction among Friends as meeting for worship; such conviction, indeed, that they have not felt the need to defend it or explain it. But in the secular climate of today some defence and explanation is necessary.
The book seeks to help readers to consider whether this way of worship is a valid one for them. It also aims to assist both Friends and those who know little of Quaker worship to make the most effective use of silent worship.
