Comfort zones are a thing of the past when a stranger knocks on the door of new parents Ann and Kyle Mendez and turns Ann's world upside down. Join Ann, Kyle, Henry, Aunt Gertrude, Aunt Leona and the rest of the gang as they absorb devastating news and, together, try to figure out how to turn it into a blessing.
I really enjoyed the first two of McBride’s books A Little Hair of the Dog and Reigning Cats and Dogs so I was ready to revisit old friends in her newest The Cats and the Cradle.
I was actually surprised at the direction this book took. I was expecting some more action and mystery like her previous books. This one had it’s own drama but of the family variety. Ann is in for the shock of her life when an unexpected visitor calls into question everything she has ever known and loved.
With Ann and Henry as the stars of the series, each book focuses on different characters and introduces new ones to grow to love. In this book I was particularly touched by Aunt Leona’s story and peeling back her “crusty” layers to find out why she is the way she is. I think it’s a good reminder to never judge people because you have no idea what they are going through or what they went through to make them that way.
Ann learns a huge part of her own history she never knew before and it’s a great story of love and acceptance and how not all families look the same, nor do they have to.
I really enjoy McBride’s simple style of writing that makes me feel like I’m sitting down having coffee with old friends. She turns the every day ordinary into an adventure I never want to end. The Cats and the Cradle was my favorite and I look forward to see what’s in store next for Ann and Henry and all the new friends we met in this book.
Here we go again! Another adventure with Ann and Henry! Ann receives some shocking news and her entire life turns upside down. You get the whole gang together in a fun/emotional adventure that will leave you chuckling as well as feeling Ann’s emotions in full tilt.
Wow. What can I say about this book! I have fallen head over heels in love with these characters! This author will make you laugh and cry all in one! I have to share a couple of my favorite scenes where I literally kept giggling as I sat on the couch and read. The scene when Ann shoves Kyle out the door…oh my gosh!!! Had me laughing so loud! The other was the scene with the cake and Henry. Even the ending had me all choked up feeling.
Just the passion and love the main character has for everything makes me want to be this girl’s friend! I really hope this author makes a movie one day, because I want to watch Ann, Kyle, all their friends, and Henry on the big screen! If you want a good clean, hilarious story you need to read this one! I’m looking forward to more works from this fun author!
I was given a copy of The Cats and the Cradle from author Jane McBride and am very grateful to have received such a wonderful book as a gift.
Having read and enjoyed the first two books in the series, I had no doubt that I would love The Cats and the Cradle. Sure enough, I was not disappointed. This novel was full of surprises and the emotions of the characters were very well portrayed. It all felt very real.
Rather than speed through the book to find out what happens next like I did with the first two books in the series, I decided to take my time because I didn't want the story to end. I then found out that a forth book had been written and became excited as well as eager to read more.
Jane McBride is a very talented author. If you are not already familiar with her work, I highly recommend you read her books. I guarantee that you will love them.
I loved reading this book. It had so many great issues. I cried, and laughed, and throughly enjoyed reading this book. There was an adoption, a return of the birth mother, a retarded son, bullies, family problems, a miscarriage, beloved pets, near drowning, etc. This book is the third in this series.
I always look forward to the next book in this series, never know what to expect, and this story was no exception. Aunt Leona is a character, she can be hilarious, but in this story she made me cry. My favorite hero in this story is the Great Dane-Henry, and I just love him in each of the books!
