Aldo Zelnick #10

Jackpot: Book 10

Rate this book
When a warm March day beckons Aldo and his best friend, Jack, outdoors to their fort under the giant pine tree, stick-in-the-mud Aldo gets, well, stuck in the mud. As they dig Aldo’s sneakers out from the embankment, they unearth a humungous bone, which rock-hound Jack believes to be a dinosaur fossil from the Jurassic period.

Their hilarious quest to figure out the bone’s origin and value takes them to the nearby university, the local pawn shop, the famous dino dig site a few hours away, and finally, over spring break, to Dinosaur National Monument.

Meanwhile, Aldo discovers the Indiana Jones movies, writes a book report on Journey to the Center of the Earth, starts in on a jumbo jawbreaker, and tolerates Bee, whose newfound passion for journalism could make or break him.

This tenth installment in an A-to-Z alphabet series also includes a glossary of fun and challenging “J words,” such as juju, jocular and jinx.

The Aldo Zelnick comic novel series just keeps getting better and better! The newest installment, Jackpot, has it all: Spring Break adventures, a real-life dinosaur treasure hunt, hard-won lessons about fame and fortune, and too many laugh-out-loud moments to count. When best buds (and total opposites) Aldo and Jack discover a dinosaur bone in the March muck of their own backyards, the two embark on a journey of inquiry that propels them to the local pawn shop, Denver's Museum of Nature and Science, Dinosaur National Monument, and ultimately back home to unearth the secret their neighborhood has been hiding for millions of years. Inspired by Indiana Jones and aided by an endearing cast of characters (including J.D., the pawn shop guy, and nosy friend Bee, in a hilarious series of cameos as an intrepid reporter), Aldo ultimately learns the true meaning of fame, fortune, and enduring friendship. (I dare you to read the ending of this book with a dry eye.) Young readers will be entertained, educated, tickled and inspired by Jackpot - as well as learning about all things "J." Not to be missed!

Finding fossils - something I've always wished to do! - by accident, connecting to Indiana Jones and dreaming of fame and glory. That's the story of this sketchbook - a grand and, at the same time, realistic adventure!
I appreciate the differences between all the families and friends that Aldo is connected with - his revulsion for physical activity and love of eating makes me smile. It doesn't stop him, but he sure does a lot of complaining.

Aldo's rockhound friend, Jack, really shines in the 10th book in this series. It was fun to see Dinosaur National Monument through Jack and Aldo's eyes (having been there myself)!!

Not only is this book 10 in the series, but it's my summer #bookaday number 10.

This fun, fictional book is about two boys, Aldo Zelnick and his friend, Jack Lopez who happen to come across a dinosaur fossil. Aldo is concerned about how to become rich and famous with it, but Jack is not. They wonder if there is a whole skeleton where they found it. To Aldo, it looks like a lot of money for him. But looks can be deceiving. They tried to get the fossil looked at, but nobody would give in. So, they tried a museum that finds and excavates fossils. Aldo is exited for the money. But does the museum give the money to Aldo and Jack? Read this exiting novel to find out.
I read the second book in this series, Bogus, and wrote a review on it. You should read the other books in the series, because I think they are funny.

I think that this book will be fun for children ages 6 - 12. I give this book four stars because I like it, but I wish it had more action.
