I have no idea where or how I found this book but it's wonderful. I'll all about 'clean, green' in the house. I loathe and refuse to use chemicals in my house for cleaning so I'm always looks for alternatives. I've been using baking soda for some time - believe me, tea stains in the sink, it's a non-abrasive cleaner, shower scum in the tub, make a paste. Then, smelly drain disposal in the sink, dump in baking soda and pour on white vinegar - watch it foam and clean up that smell. Oh yes, it does work. :-)

A great book on tips for not only cleaning using these products, but to soothe burns and cuts, exfoliation, cooking, and more. A fun read and reference book. I got a few new tips from it, so I'm pretty pleased.

How could anyone not love this book just by the title alone ? There are chapters with all these marvelous non toxic natural miracle goodies. Kitchen uses, health and beauty uses, science, crafts, and much more. It's all here in one book, no time water search the internet for recipes for successful formulas that don't leave you with a chemical bomb in you home.
I plan on buying a copy for my elderly mother who has become sensitive to chemicals after years of having her hands in them.
A must have cleaning guide book if nothing else, but you'll love what else you find.

This is a handy book because it gives you 501 uses for things you probably have around the house to replace expensive or toxic chemicals ... salt, vinegar, baking soda, olive oil and lemons.

The book begins by providing the background, history and types of salt, vinegar, baking soda, olive oil and lemons.

Then what follows are the 501 uses of salt, vinegar, baking soda, olive oil and lemons. It is divided into five chapters, with salt, vinegar, baking soda, olive oil and lemons colour coded (for example, all salt tips are in blue):

Around the house
In the kitchen
Health, hygiene and beauty
Arts, crafts and science
Beyond the home

Cool stuff!

This book is a great collection of uses for salt, vinegar, baking soda, olive oil and lemons. It is organized into 5 chapters for use around the house, in the kitchen, health and beauty, arts, crafts and science and beyond the home uses in gardening and outdoor cleaning. I learned quite a few uses for these things that I did not know. I just went outside and sprinkled baking soda on the ground under my tomato plant because it is supposed to make the tomatoes sweeter. I will definitely try out many more of the ideas contained in this useful book! I received this book free to review from Netgalley.

I was sent a copy of the book for review though Net Galley, as always, all opinions are my own.

In our household we don’t use expensive, toxic chemicals for cleaning, but rather we clean with ingredients we already have on hand. Many of the “recipes” in this book are similar to the “recipes” that were handed down to me by my grandmother. It always surprises me to find out that these sorts of things aren’t common knowledge anymore and this book is a great reference for anyone looking to make their own green cleaners.

I got this through NetGalley as a pre-read. I figured it would have some helpful hints, and maybe even a few I hadn't heard before.

This book is stuffed full of (to the tune of 501, go figure) helpful hints. I found the organization to be logical, and the hints are put as simply as possible, so there's no wondering if you are using them right!

A great, handy guide for anyone who wants to replace those pesky chemical cleaners!

This book is jam-packed with useful tips and hints for a variety of purposes using the basic ingredients of salt, vinegar, baking soda, olive oil and lemons. I think it could have been organized better and maybe pared down to 301 Amazing Uses - there were lots of repetitive entries that were confusing. For example, #4, #108 and #123 were all how to clean stainless steel, just using different mixtures and methods. I would have preferred them to all be in one place.

wow, there are tons of great tips in here. Who knew you could do all that with salt, vinegar, baking soda, olive oil, lemons or a combination thereof?
I guess Laura Westdale did...and I'm very happy she did. I did a ton of highlighting, and any of the tips I've tried worked like a charm.

I'll be stocking up on those 5 ingredients next time I go shopping.

A good collection of simple recipes for a huge range of needs from cleaning to personal care to maintenance and more. I've been using vinegar and baking soda to clean for years, but now I have even more ideas for these simple ingredients along with salt, olive oil and lemons. Many of the tips, I've seen elsewhere, but it's handy to have them all in one place. There are even some craft project and science experiment ideas in the back.
