This is one of those stories I probably needed to read in exactly the right moment. Luckily, for me, that occurred. I'd probably rate this around 3.75 to 3.85 stars. Which could very well be overrating.
The story is very brief - about a very skinny (athletically skinny) dark skinned marathon runner - the kind of skinny that causes a woman to have almost zero fat, the kind of skinny that causes a woman to have almost nothing but nipples on their chest; and the actual point of view of the story - a woman who describes herself as the opposite of her lover. She's quite pale, fat, and not exactly athletically minded (and she has really large breasts, you know, because that's important).
The fat one (I do not remember their names) is very self-conscious about their looks and wonders why the athlete sticks with her. This story gives a good brief look into why an ultra-competitive woman might prefer to be with a woman who is not the least bit athletic, but is supportive, understanding, and, in the only eyes that matter (her own, and - depending on 'things', those of the larger woman) sees their lover as quite attractive. And feels lucky to have such a woman instead of another athlete-ultra competitive type, like another couple have - two ultra-competitive runners.
As I said, brief story.

Making An Impression by Lucy Felthouse Story opens with a woman, Joely, sitting next to a pool with an ereader. Another woman enters. Joely gazes upon this new woman, who is apparently super hot, through her sunglasses. Other woman sits on opposite of pool.
'Joely really wanted to know what the brunette smelled like.' - hmms. Okay?
heh. The women keep getting referred to by their hair color. The blonde. The brunette. mmphs. heh.
Now I know why Joely decided to do a stunt to get attention instead of strike up a conversation. Neither has any ability to talk smoothly.
Don't particularly like Mia. Nothing really wrong with Joely other than being clueless and an inadequate conversationalist.
And . . . wait, the story is over? A woman sits by a pool, spots another, makes some effort to show herself of, the other notices, they get drinks, they go up to that other woman's room. Get busy. Story over. Well. Kind for boring. Which part was the 'sweat' supposed to come into the scene? Sitting in the hot sun? That's kind of sweaty. They took the elevator instead of the stairs, so no sweat there. The sex? It was over too quickly for either to sweat. So I guess the sweat is from the sun in this story.
Overall - 1.5 rating. Or maybe 2. 1.75?

On an Ocean of Skin by Laila Blake
Okay, story opens with a woman in a yoga studio. She may or may not be fat. And feels self-doubt and guilt for 'subjecting beautiful people to her presence.' She's there because she got 'something' related to the studio on her birthday. A voucher - 'Yoga for woman in larger bodies' (so she actually does inhabit a larger body, and it's not just her self-image making her feel fat).
hehehe. What a gift to get from your mother. I can just imagine the scene (well a scene, I don't know the relationship involved) - daughter - 'ooh, a card *opens, stares, sees 'Yoga for woman in larger bodies' thinks to self *my mother thinks I'm fat, thanks mom*
Interesting. Large bodied depressed woman, goes to yoga studio, meets - happy round woman as instructor.
Hmms. This be a really nice story. Quite . . . nice. A couple of word choices here and there jarred and pulled me from the story, unfortunately, otherwise I might call this one something close to 5 stars. As it is . . . . I'll call it 4.79 stars. *nods*

Derby Girls by Erzabet Bishop
A roller derby story. Star of this one has been side-lined for months (6) due to a broken leg and busted collar bone that cost her team . . . um something, 'the win' (for a game? for the championship, what?) and cost her her girlfriend.
She didn't mind, the 'cost her her girlfriend' part, as she, the star of the story, had her eye on Roxie. And she wasn't going to do anything until she got rid of the girlfriend. Plus six months. heh.
Interesting story. I liked it. Hmms. 4.4 rating.
Match Point by Harper Bliss
Okay, this one will involve tennis apparently. Let us see what we get . . .
A woman has formerly been the champion at a club. Until a new woman appeared. Who distracted her greatly. The star of the story, whose name I do not recall, has discovered why she kept ending up breaking off engagements. It would appear that she's actually into women. Specifically one named Ruby - that new woman to the club.
They play tennis then they play with each other.
Hmms. Interesting enough. The sex was a little wordy. hmms. 4.2? Something like that.
Overall Okay then.
Marathon Woman by Cheyenne Blue - 3.8 Making An Impression by Lucy Felthouse - 1.75 On an Ocean of Skin by Laila Blake - 4.79 Derby Girls by Erzabet Bishop - 4.4 Match Point by Harper Bliss - 4.2
Read the first story, Marathon Woman by Cheyenne Blue. Not a bad story, but didn't really pull me in either. Making an Impression by Lucy Felthouse is the second story and was a bit more enjoyable, but I didn't get a feel for the characters. On an Ocean of Skin by Laila Blake was a nice story. Not sure what it was about this story but it left me with a smile on my face. I thoroughly enjoyed Derby Girls by Erzabet Bishop! I will be checking out more of her work. I just finished with the final story and it has confirmed what I have said many times before. I love Harper's writing style. I really can't explain it, but I feel much more engaged as if I can see and hear the characters and the setting. Overall this was a good book and all of the stories have merit, but even if the only story in the book was Harper's Match Point this book would be well worth the price!

Why I chose this book?
I was given the chance to read an Arc.
What I liked about this book.
* Every story was unique * They were all hot and steamy * each story was a different sport.
This was a good little read. I loved the way that each story had a different sport instead of half the book being one sport and a few odds thrown in. The ladies all have very unique approaches and it adds to the book. Well written with steamy scenes. Those that like this genre will love this book, hopefully as much as I did.
Let me start by saying I am in no way, shape or form a jock. I do not date them, I do not read about them I do not know any. They are just not my thing...Until now.
I am a huge Erzabet Bishop fan (like that's been a secret, please). So I knew I had to read this one too. Um, WOW! Yeah Miss Fluffy said WOW to a jock book. Go figure!
I didn't really feel anything on the first page of Cheyenne Blue's Marathon Woman. I read it because it was on the way to Ms. Bishop's story. Ms. Blue, I owe you an apology!! This story is so beautiful, gentle and tender, real. Amazing, truly.
Making an Impression by Lucy Felthouse was light hearted and fun. I think we all know of a Joley and even the hardest of us loved one once. What a happy and very enjoyable read.
On An Ocean of Skin by Laila Blake was the biggest surprise for me. This tale was not about a jock at all. I could totally connect with Olivia. Thank you!
Harper Bliss...Well it's Harper, so you know its good and she always leaves me in blissfully happy (sorry...couldn't resist in-spite of myself. Forgive me?) Match Point was a great first time story that made me almost want to play tennis...ALMOST.
This brings me back to Erzabet Bishop and her Derby Girls. I have already confessed to being her biggest fan but I have reason to be. I love her descriptive style and the way she can draw me into her stories as easily as I draw a breath. Who knew roller derby could be so fun? Yummy.
So, I guess for a book about jocks that I'm not into (right?) this book was a home run! (come on, you knew it had to be done :D) Thank you Ladies!

This is an interesting little anthology of lesbian erotica, which is difficult to rate because the five stories differ in quality immensely. For me, Laila Blake's and Cheyenne Blue’s stories stand head and shoulders above the rest as literary pieces. These two authors manage to write interesting, three-dimensional, real people as well as to create eroticism and are definitely the intelligent woman’s erotica writers. Harper Bliss, though clearly accomplished in her craft, goes for the broadest appeal approach here by choosing quite standard characterisations and a common theme and it may work for many but for me it felt tired and a bit boring. Neither Erzabet Bishop’s nor Lucy Felthouse’s story offered me any connection with the protagonists because they were so two-dimensional and for me that is the be all and end all in erotica: if there is no connection to the characters it leaves me cold. They left me cold. So somewhere between a 5-star for Blue and Blake, a 4-star for Bliss, a 3-star for Bishop and a (I’m sorry but I also thought the writing was substandard) 2-star for Felthouse, I come up with 19 stars divided by 5 formula, getting us a 3.8 rounded up to 4.
Wow that first story starts things off with a bang. "Marathon Woman" by Cheyenne Blue is the one that jumpstarts the collection and is just one of those 'WOW' stories that is short, with some steam, but is mostly about this girls insecurities with her girlfriend who is a successful marathon runner and just how inadequate she feels sometimes. I was blown away by the tenderness, softness, and sensitiveness between the characters and how genuine they felt. That was, by far, my favorite of the entire anthology.
Making an Impression by Lucy Felthouse was the opposite of "Marathon Woman" in a lot of ways. Where Blue's was more heavy and serious in tone, but with some tenderness and softness, "Making an Impression" was really just lighthearted, flirty, and fun.
"On An Ocean of Skin" by Laila Blake was a surprise. A pleasant hot surprise. Short but sweet.
Harper Bliss' "Match Point" is, well, Bliss' style for sure. Can't really go wrong with this one.
This finally brings me to Erzabet Bishop and "Derby Girls". I love her descriptive style and the way she can draw you into her stories as easily as I draw breath. Who knew roller derby could be so fun?
"Sweat" is an anthology of short lesbian fiction loosely themed around fitness and health.
Very loosely, actually, as in the first story the athlete is the narrator's partner, and in the second the closest we get is a single sentence dive into a pool. So we shall try again, and more honestly: "Sweat" is an anthology of smut.
That is not to say some of it is not worth reading on merit; the first story, "Marathon Woman", is remarkable for its characterisation and sweetness. "Derby Girls" also did a great job of building a world (and focusing on sport), although the ending was rushed and overall the effect was spoiled.
Overall I am ambivalent about the collection; certainly those after erotica will find it is an above average ebook at a reasonable price.
3 stars. This was an okay collection. The only stories that I liked were ‘On an Ocean of Skin’ by Laila Blake, ‘Derby Girls’ by Erzabet Bishop, and ‘Match Point’ by Harper Bliss. The other ones were alright, nothing special but this was still pretty entertaining overall.
