Karen is the multi-award winning author of 28 novels, and is both a RWA RITA ® and a RWA Vivian Award nominee. She believes life is better with love, chocolate, and a view of the ocean. Karen splits her time between writing romance and folding laundry, and escapes to Ireland as often as possible. She lives in coastal New England, in a sweet little waterfront cottage that she shares with her high school sweetheart and one very skittish cat.
A decent enough book even though the heroine at the start was an overprotective sister, and it was kind of understable if annoying that she refused to see that her popular country singer sister was eighteen and old enough to make her own mistakes.
Her sister married a soldier but the heroine gets the marriage annulled and without her sister's knowledge gets him shipped to Afghanistan, this causes her sister to have a public melt-down in which she says bad things about the army, to counter-act the negative publicity, the heroine arranges for her sister to join the USO tour and goes there in advance to scout it out.
The hero Chase is assigned to baby sit her an assignment he is not happy about. Chase is someone we have met before in his playful twin's story. Chase is the serious kind focussed on his Special Ops career.
I liked seeing the heroine through her sister realized that her sister and she had their own life to live and that it was time to let go which was hard for her to do since she had raised her half sister from the age of six after her parent's death and given up everything to manage her career.
This one started out on a pretty bad foot for me and it didn’t improve until the very end. Being a veteran made it really hard for me to like Kate’s character, the fact that she made light of the fact that she had a soldier sent to a war zone just to keep him away from her impulsive 18 year old sister made her irredeemable for me. Even after Kate went over to tour the camps and realized the dangers, she still said she had no regrets because she was protecting her sister… really, your sisters reputation is more important than someone else’s life? Kate’s cluelessness really irked me, but again that was probably because of the very beginning. It was hard to believe that Chase could fall for Kate so quickly, especially when instances like Kate feeling happy that two USO workers were giving up their beds for her and Tenley because Tenley deserved more than sleeping in a tent. Again, I wanted to bitch slap her… how is it ok for everyone else but you and your sister? Sheesh, after reading how harsh my review is I’m wondering why I gave it 3 stars… but I really did enjoy how things ended for everyone.
3 Stars – No Going Back is an adult contemporary/military romance by Karen Foley, and part of the Harlequin Blaze Uniformly Hot! series. The Few. The Proud. The Sexy as Hell!
As a member of the Army’s elite special ops, Major Chase Rawlins is one of the toughest military SOBs around. His job? Take out terrorists. He's all business, all the time. So when he's ordered to escort a pampered celebrity—and her bossy, overprotective publicist—on an Independence Day tour of Afghanistan, it’s the last thing he wants to do.
Thanks to her starlet half sister, Kate Fitzgerald is used to “challenging” situations. So when the country pop star is caught on video having a very public, very ugly meltdown,—an anti-military rant that could have a very negative impact on her image—as personal assistant to the superstar, it's Kate's job to perform damage control. And what better way to demonstrate her sister's goodwill toward the troops, than by joining the USO concert tour ... What could possibly go wrong?
As Kate's military escort for the duration of her visit, Chase is determined to keep his assignment strictly professional: one woman, three bases, three days. No problem. He hasn’t failed a mission yet, and he isn’t about to start now. But soon Kate is placing herself in his capable hands at every opportunity, and he finds that even hardened soldiers have their weaknesses!
I just love a man in uniform! No Going Back is a quick, sexy, steamy read with a satisfying HEA, perfect for the beach or a lazy afternoon.
Content: graphic language, explicit sex, and oral.
Army Special Ops Major Chase Rawlins certainly knows how to sweep a girl right off her feet! He kicks ass for a living and can rock a girls world all at the same time! This book was hot, steamy and had a great story to it... I now know why they call them "blaze"... because books like these will set you on fire! Looking forward to reading more of this miniseries and more from Karen Foley!
