It started with an explosion that ripped apart a small tavern in Prague. The Czechs and their Russian masters claim the West German Secret Service and the CIA were involved.
The Germans and the Americans contend they were framed.
The battle-hardened men of Phoenix Force must clear both governments, even if it means protecting a Communist state from anti-Communist invaders.
And if they don't succeed. . . the blitz will end in a nuclear horror.
Phoenix Force is a series of action-adventure novels first published in 1982 by American Gold Eagle publishers. It is a spin-off of the Executioner series created by Don Pendleton.
Phoenix Force is one of two neutralization teams working for Stony Man, a top-secret anti-terrorist organization. As with The Executioner, the Phoenix Force novels have been written by a succession of authors under the pseudonym Gar Wilson. In 1991, Gold Eagle combined Phoenix Force with another Executioner spin-off series, Able Team, and launched the Stony Man book series, which is still being published as of 2005.
The first in the "bigger and better" books in the Phoenix Force and Able Team line. Going from 192 pages to 224. Although, this one came in at 218. And that's a few pages to many in this case. It seems that the action suffers a bit in the lengthening.
The Force finds themselves in what was once East and West Germany and Czechoslovakia. Two anti-communist terrorist factions are planning to nuke Czechoslovakia in order save it from The Reds. They steal some plutonium and are set to carry out their plan. As always the ending was a blow out in action. Just wish there would of been more in between.
Liked this one quite a bit, has a straightforward story line and plenty of action. The story involves a radical paramilitary group who is wanting to fight communists at all costs not caring about innocent civilians. They don't even care about themselves with their plan of detonating crude nuclear devices inside of Prague. Phoenix Force has to stop this to keep WW3 from starting while being behind the wall of a communist country who are hunting them.
Recommended, a good example of the better stories in this series.
