In her beloved Harringtons series, Gwynne Forster introduced the sexy, wealthy brothers from Maryland. Each found his perfect match, and now their family and friends are searching for happily-ever-afters of their own.... Scott Galloway has always known how to get what he wants. A U.S. Ambassador at thirty-six, he's got ambition to burn. His latest goal--settle down and start a family. But finding the right candidate isn't easy. Especially when the one woman he can't stop thinking about is the one he ruled out years ago. Accomplished and successful in her own right, Denise Miller has never forgotten Scott, in spite of their disastrous first meeting. And now that their mutual friendship with the Harrington family has brought them together again, Denise is more and more intrigued. Scott is strong enough to stand up to her--and she could be the loving, equal partner he needs. But with hearts this stubborn, and passion this wild, can they find the compromise that leads to forever?
Gwynne Forster (1922-2015) was the pseudonym of American novelist, short fiction writer, demographer, and sociologist Gwendolyn Johnson-Acsadi. Forster was best known as an early innovator of the African American Romance fiction tradition. Forster won a wide readership with her novels and garnered awards, including the Romantic Times Career Achievement Award and the Black Writers Alliance Gold Pen Award.
I didn't really like this book, but I finished it anyway. It didn't inspire or influence me. I liked that is continued the stories of the Harrington's. I just didn't understand Denise and what all she was about. She seemed to be easily influenced with a comment or two. I didn't feel the connection between her and Scott on a personal level; only when it related to sex. It was confusing with the back and forth of Denise and Scott. She seemed to be a bit immature for him and for her job. The ending seemed a bit rushed. I was really hoping to like the book, but it just didn't hold up for me. I normally like books by Gwynne Forster, but this one was lacking.
The author must like controlling men because thats all I got from this story. It was nice to continue with the characters from original series and their wives though.
A wonderful story of working together to make each other happy. Scott and Denise had their share of working things out for the better good. This is a well written book.
It was not like her other books. It didn't have that "oh I can't put it down" flair. I will be finishing up the series. The other books in the series were great, just not this one.
This book did not live up to Ms. Forster's excellent ability to draw a reader into the story, create believable and relatable characters, and weave a good plot. I am so disappointed, because Ms. Forster is one of my favorite authors. Everything about this story was bad, though. There was no complexity to the plot. The Scott was arrogant and UNCOMPROMISING (funny thing about the title). He was also self-absorbed and one-dimensional. Denise lacked texture. Many of the phrases (i.e. You poleaxed me) are so warmed-over, re-hashed from her previous works.
I typically love what she does, I really do. But this is one I wish she would pull from distribution. It has the capacity to compromise her reputation as a talented author. It was that shallow.
Ambassador Scout Galloway returns from two years in Lithuania with two goals. Spending time with his family and friends and finding a very special lady to settle down with. He found this not to be as easy as he thought.
I didn't really like this book, but I finished it anyway. This was not the best of romances, it didn't really move me. this relationship was not a story book affair/romance and it lacked detail. I have read much better by Gwynne forster.
