Carlos the Cod

Rate this book
Carlos the Cod lived in a deep part of the ocean, and was always warned by his parents not to go near the surface, where the humans tried to catch you. But a shoal of older fish turned up one day and told Carlos to swim to the top with them. Read what happens to Carlos and his new friends, and learn the same lesson Robin did that you should not rise to peer pressure and do things you know are wrong! Carlos the Cod is one part of the lovely series, The Diaries of Robin's Toys! Robin and his Grandad buy a new toy from the car boot sale every weekend, and with the help of Grandad's magic spell, they bring them to life! Each toy has a fascinating new story to tell Robin, and helps to teach him some very important life lessons!

Carlos is a curious cod, which once had the possibility to see the human world at an aquarium, from “the other side of the glass” (“What a curious and strange lot these people were.”). He also happens to know what it’s like to be friends with someone older and untrustworthy, who wants you to try out things that could get you into trouble. Robin remembers that Angus, his best friend, has recently been spending time with a group of older guys and trying to act cool in front of other people. When the nasty gang makes fun of Robin, Angus feels terribly guilty and finally realizes that he has left his real buddy behind.

This is a great book for nonsmoking parents to teach their children it is dumb to smoke. It also teaches the importance of choosing the right friends and how the wrong crowd can lead you astray.

This book was adorable and very imaginative. The messages in it were presented in a very inventive manner. This book was really good and I can not wait to read more books by this author (hopefully finding one with a useful message for my kids).

***This book is suitable for children from kindergarten (to be read to them) on up to middle grade readers
