Prom Queen

Rate this book
Bailey stood on the stage, her crown glittering under the high school lights as she blew kisses to those glaring beneath her. Despite the celebrations, something didn’t feel right. She wasn’t supposed to be prom queen, and someone would make her pay for it…

Twenty years ago, my best friend, Bailey , was found dead by the train tracks, half of our friendship locket missing from her pale neck. She never took that off. Officially, it was ruled a tragic accident – but I knew better. She’d been crowned prom queen only hours earlier, and someone’s jealousy had finally gotten to them.

Now I have been forced to return to my childhood home, to the small lakeside town, and the group of friends I grew up with. Back to the scene of the crime that ruined my life, and stole my best friend away from me forever. I need a fresh slate, but I am seeing Bailey everywhere. A quick flash of her locket on a woman in a café surely can’t be a coincidence?

As I walk along the street, I avoid the suspicious stares of my former classmates. Everyone here thinks I had something to do with Bailey’s death. Sure, we did things we shouldn’t have as teenagers, but who didn’t? But when I start to hear noises in my house and receive threatening notes, I realize someone here never wanted me to come back, and they’ll do whatever it takes to keep me away…

Someone in this small town murdered my best friend the night she was crowned prom queen, and now they’re after me. We all have our secrets, but who would kill for them?

“Haven’t you heard the story of Bailey Maddox, who jumped in front of a train just hours after she was crowned prom queen?”

She had it all. She was the Prom Queen of Cove Haven. Did she jump? Was she pushed? Someone in the group knows. Someone's hiding a secret.

Twenty years later, Bailey’s best friend, Brooke Webber, returns to the small town of Cove Haven on the shores of Lake Michigan. It doesn’t take her long to realize that the town hasn’t forgotten about the tragic event. When she spots a stranger wearing Bailey’s necklace - the necklace Brooke made for her - she’s determined to get the facts about what happened that night.

Wolfe is a master at crafting a tense whodunnit with small-town vibes! I loved her eccentric characters, the way she swept me back to my younger days when hanging out with my bestie was my sole focus, and the way she kept me guessing about Bailey’s last moments on the bridge. I was so wrapped up in the lies and secrets that I didn’t see the twists coming!

I’d love to see any of this author’s books optioned for tv or the silver screen! I’ve been an avid follower since March 2021 when Her Best Friend’s Lie was published. All five books published from that date have all been 5-star reads. Let’s shine the spotlight on this amazing author! Go check out her books.

Looking for a quick, fast-paced read? Like reading for clues? Need to know whodunnit? Enjoy gobsmacking twists? LOOK NO FURTHER - this is the one you need.

I was gifted this book by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Prom Queen written by Laura Wolfe was a find on NetGalley last month. A suspenseful YA/NA novel that promised lots of intriguing fun. It's the first book I've read by the author, and I enjoyed it enough that I'll give more a chance. I was glad it didn't focus on too much drama at the prom, rather the events leading up to the big dance and then a murder, but little focus on the specific events at the prom. In a way, this helped generate solid mystery and kept it more as a New Adult novel, given much of the plot takes place a decade plus later.

Podcasters are all the rage right now, and I'm a fan of Only Murders in The Building, so this lent itself well to current tropes. Writing was good. Character development felt natural. I missed a bit of balance between attitude and empathy, mostly feeling like there weren't any black or white characters (in terms of shades personalities, not skin color)... everyone was sorta normal except one person who wasn't - but that was the killer, whose identity we didn't know and kinda surprised me. A fun read for a rainy afternoon.

Brookes best friend Bailey Maddox died 20 years ago on prom night. Was it suicide or murder? Podcaster Hannah Mead has a show All The Dark Corners. She starts investigating the case with the help of Brooke and stirs up deadly secrets someone will kill to keep. This was a highly entertaining read that I sped through. I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC that will be released October 9, 2023!

I neither disliked nor liked this. I think it'll be loved by the right audience, which I am a bit surprised I am not.

A bit of YA and a bit of mystery, as a podcaster is in town investigating the death of the prom queen 20 years prior. We see past and present POV from Brooke, the prom queen's best friend.

The twist toward the end was certainly a surprise, I didn't see it coming but also it was a bit left of centre. I'd have preferred something I was more invested in.

I think Laura Wolfe did well with the podcast aspect - mixed media is always a win for me.

Now, what really grinded my gears throughout is that on at least three occasions this book says "I could care less". It's couldn't - if you could care less then you do care.

I think this will be a fun read for new thriller readers and people who enjoy YA drama in their thrillers. I, however, was just a bit bored where for a while little happened.

Thanks to Bookouture, Netgalley and the author for my eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Anticipated publication date = my birthday, 9 October 😆

Bailey returns home after her mother’s passing and runs into a podcaster named Hannah who's investigating the death of her high school best friend, Brooke. After Prom, Brooke's death was ruled a suicide but Hannah thinks someone pushed her. If so, who did it and why?

I really enjoyed the fast pace of PROM QUEEN. I became invested in the podcast and in helping to figure out what really happened to Brooke. There are many unlikeable characters but I enjoyed Bailey's character and learning about her friendship with Brooke. Told in past and present timeline helped keep it flowing nicely. You'll want to add PROM QUEEN to your TBR.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my gifted copy. This review will be shared to my Instagram @coffee.break.book.reviews in the near future.

Prom Queen is I Know What You Did Last Summer meets Carrie in the best way possible.

I actually was totally addicted to this book. I could not put it down. It was fast paced, fun and thrilling all at once. I really liked Brooke as a character, and it had a small town vibe with a slew of eccentric and interesting people within. The twists were shocking, and just like Brooke, I had suspected everyone at one point. However, I didn’t see the truth coming. Plus, the final twist was just mind-blowing. Add this to your TBR!

My only criticism is that I am getting tired of the true crime podcast trope in thrillers. It’s probably the third or fourth book I’ve read this year that centers around a podcast. I understand that’s the age we’re in, but it does feel slightly tired. I’m looking for something new!

HOLY. MOLY. Prom Queen follows Brooke, who temporarily moved back to her small town where she went to high school to sell her mom’s house. Brooke’s best friend Bailey died on the night of their prom twenty years ago, supposedly by suicide off the local bridge. But was it really suicide?

You meet Brooke’s old friends - and enemies - as newly discovered bits and pieces of this old case is brought into question by a podcaster Hannah who is investigating Bailey’s death from an anonymous tip she got. Something terrible might have happened to Bailey, and Brooke isn’t sure if she can trust anyone in the town.

I found this book to be entertaining enough, I kept picking it back up because I wanted to see the story through, but unfortunately I found the writing pretty lackluster. It wasn’t bad at all, thank god, but I found myself zoning out at times because the writing style was very much “this happened, then this happened, she said this then he said that.” I loved the idea and the concept and the TWISTS at the end kept delivering, I was hooked in the last 10% there was no way I was going to put it down without finishing it!!! But overall, I found this to be very okay. Best believe though I’ll be checking out the author’s other works!

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

I don’t even know what it was about this book, but something had me hooked. I couldn’t put this book down and read way past my bedtime. The story is basic enough, 20 years ago Bailey, the Prom Queen, died on her Prom night. The police and everyone in the town ruled her death a suicide, but doubts are still circeling in the minds of those close to Bailey.

For me, this book was very compelling and easy to read, I just flew through the pages and like I said, I couldn’t put it down and read it all in one setting. The writing was okay, it wasn’t too flowery and very straight forward. The chapters in the past were just as interesting as the chapters in the present and the transition between them didn’t throw me off.

I liked the main character, in the past and the present. Brooke was a great narrator, she wasn’t too stupid and just the right amount of suspicious, which I personally liked. This couldn’t be said about all the characters, but I guess that was intended. The one I disliked the most though, was the Podcasterin Hannah. Ugh.

The ending was good, I liked the twist at the end and the different turns the book took. Even though I suspected some things, it was a great reveal. The Epilogue feels like a second book set in this world is not far off and personally I really hope we get to see some more of Brooke and her friends.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.75

first and foremost, the fact that the mystery starts on the FIRST PAGE is fantastic. i’m so tired of mysteries and thrillers that don’t start until over halfway through the book. this one starts immediately and it was so nice.

the story had a LOT of twists and turns. the truth about bailey and her life in that last year was really fun to read about and every time something new came up, i found myself with my jaw wide open, gasping at the book!

the dual timeline was definitely interesting and something that took a few chapters to get into the swing of. but i loved that the more was found out during the investigation, we got to read about it in the past timeline.

when we found out the truth, i kind of saw it coming, but definitely not for that reason! it gave me hella “the roommate” vibes and i fucking loved it. but the VERY end??????? THAT SHIT??????? oh my god was i shocked.

i need there to be a second book so my questions are answered about this!!!!!!

thank you so much to netgalley and laura wolfe for this arc ❤️

So I’ve just finished reading Laura Wolfe's upcoming release: Prom Queen and we NEED to talk about it.

This one is a "whodunit" style psychological thriller and the story follows a woman named Brooke who has to return to her childhood home and the small town she grew up in.
20 years prior to this return, Brooke's best friend Bailey was found dead by the train tracks just hours after being crowned prom queen.
In the end, Bailey’s death had been ruled a tragic accident, but many people in this town, including Brooke, always had their suspicions surrounding the circumstances of this death and were convinced it was something a bit more sinister.

Fast forwarding those 20 years to the present day and with Brooke's return, she is constantly reminded of her late best friend Bailey. People in town, including former classmates are very weary and suspicious of Brooke - thinking she had something to do with Bailey's death.
After a very unique and particular necklace belonging to Bailey resurfaces, Brooke starts to feel like she is being being watched and followed - she receives threatening notes and hears strange noises late at night in her house. It's clear that somebody in this town does not want Brooke here, nor do they want her digging up the past to find out what REALLY happened on that night 20 years ago.

Honestly, this was SUCH a great book. I read it on my Kindle in literally one sitting and could not put it down. It's told from a dual timeline: so the past, leading up to what happened on that night and the present day. It is super easy to follow along with that shift between timelines, which I love. This was such a fun and fast paced read. I was so intrigued by the story itself and I LOVE a good book that constantly keeps you guessing with what's going on and who's behind it all.

Although I did pick one of the twists in this book, I did NOT pick the main twist at the end. But thennnn, THE EPILOGUE HELLO???! My jaw DROPPED!!
This was truly such a great read and I think I have now found another brilliant thriller and suspense author!

Even though they are not the same, I think if you have read the “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” series by Holly Jackson, you will really love this one!

Thank you so much to Netgalley for sending this ARC through 🫶🏼

A Prom Queen, whodunit, high school murder or suicide mystery full of suspense with a duel timeline 👩‍🍳👌....what more can one ask for 🤷‍♀️

This book is full of misdirection and plot twists. The I Know What You Did Last Summer/Carrie/Mean Girls vibes had me not wanting to put this down. And the ending....shook

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture, for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Prom Queen' by Laura Wolfe.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Laura Wolfe, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 9th October 2023.

This is the fifth book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'The In-Laws', 'Her Best Friends Lie', 'The Girl Before Me' and 'We Live Next Door' and I would highly recommend them all!!

This novel consists of a prologue, 51 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is fantastically written with vivid descriptions that absolutely grip the readers attention and puts them right in the middle of it all feeling the hair raise on your arms and feeling the sweat run down your back.

Another absolutely huge success by Laura!!! This book had me hook, line and sinker from the first page and I could not put it down!!! Every time I said one more chapter it ended on a cliffhanger and I just had to know what was going on!!! If you are going to read this then clear your day because it is truly unputdownable. I started this yesterday afternoon and finished it at approx 1am, read it in one sitting and although I'm knackered today it was 1000000% worth it!!! I loved that you got to meet such a a mix of personalities and so many suspects!!! It keeps you constantly guessing who did what!! It is filled with friendship, murder, romance, lies, secrets, twists, turns and everything you could want from a psychological thriller along with some MASSIVE BOMBSHELLS which will leave you absolutely shocked!!! I haven't read a book with a storyline like this one and I loved the podcasts throughout the story and the fact that you jist can't trust any of the characters so your guessing and changing your mind constantly. Laura's fantastic evocative skills brings the environment, characters and their emotions to life ensuring that the reader is feeling their heart pounding along with the characters. She ends the timelines together perfectly to drip feed the reader just the right amount of information to tell them what they need to know while not giving anything away. I for one was NOT expecting that at all so a huge well done to Laura!! After reading hundred of thrillers it is getting harder and harder to surprise me but she definitely threw a bombshell with this one!! This book would make a fantastic movie that I will be first in line to watch!!

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture

All the characters were strong, well developed and realistic as well as each of them hiding their own secrets. Laura's fantastic evocative skills ensures they all come to life in front of the readers eyes. Unfortunately, I really can't say anything about them without giving anything away now that I know who did. However, this is one of those fantastic books that will have you questioning each and every one of the characters and leave you with no idea who is lying and who, if any, you can trust. One minute I was convinced how I felt about one character and then the next everything was flipped around leaving my head spinning!!! Regardless of how you feel about the characters they all played their parts perfectly to create this on the edge of your seat thriller from the fantastic author that is Laura Wolfe!!! Grab your copy now to meet them all yourself!!

I would love to see this turned into a movie and Laura I really hope you are working on your next psychological thriller at this moment because this book will go far!!! A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS on what promises to be a MASSIVE success!!! This is exactly why you are one of my favourite authors and here's to your next guaranteed success 🥂!!

Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the prologue and first two chapters of Laura's 'The In-Laws' which is actually one I have already read and if you enjoyed this book then I can guarantee you will love that one too. I would highly recommend reading it!!!

Overall an absolutely heart racing, nail biting, unputdownable thriller with twists you will not see coming!!!

353 pages.

This book is just 99p to purchase on kindle, free with kindle unlimited and £8.99 in paperback (at time of review) via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5/5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

I love that the thrills started right from the beginning of the book. This was a YA thriller that was full of suspense. I enjoyed the fast pace of the storyline, and I found myself very invested in the podcast. I love thrillers that feature podcasts, and this one didn't disappoint. I was hooked, and found myself fully invested in the characters. I was so anxious to know what happened and who the murderer was. I wasn't sure who or what to believe. There were a lot of twists and turns, and the dual timelines between the past and present was very well written.

Thank you NetGalley and Tantor Audio for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.

A small town. A suspicious death of a popular girl. And secrets galore. What more could one want from a book like this?
I loved how this is told in the past and present. So we slowly learn our cast of suspects, I mean characters, and the secrets and lies they've all told.
Adding the true crime podcast aspect to throw a wrench into the whole thing really was *chefs kiss* I admit, at times, that Hannah pretty much blackmailing Brooke to help her was pretty low and made me frustrated at the character. But she really did her job there to make everyone rethink the case and cast doubt on everyone.
Who can you trust when everyone has had a secret or lie from the past?

And then that epilogue. EXCUSE ME WHAT?! I've read my fair share of this genre and I have to say there were plot twists/developments that definitely surprised me. This was my first read from the author but I'll be checking out more books for sure.

Brooke returns after 20 years to Cove Haven, the place where she grew up, and lived her prom night, which marked her forever for being the day her best friend died. While the police investigation determined that the death was a suicide, Brooke has never been very sure of it, feeling guilt for how things happened, and after 20 years she seems not to be the only one who continues to think about it, since a podcast is in charge of reliving this mystery. Brooke will be forced to take part in this investigation, which will lead her to suspect her former schoolmates and friends.

This book reads extremely fast, it is very entertaining as it is narrated in chapters divided between present and past, with a lot of intrigue and suspense. I personally like YA books but this one has the best of both worlds, being a story of the past, seen now from the point of view of adults.

I think if you liked "A Good Girls Guide to Murder" or "The Night Shift" you will enjoy this book.

Finally, I loved the ending, nothing more you could ask for.

This was my second book by Wolfe and I enjoyed it just as much as the other…which was THE IN-LAWS. This was a quick read with some unexpected twists. Bailey was the prom queen and on the night of prom she was found dead by the train tracks. It was ruled a suicide, but her bff Brooke, knows there's more to the story. Now, 20 years later, Brooke is back in town after the death of her mother. A podcaster is also digging into the case. I was going back and forth with who I thought was guilty, and I loved trying to figure it out! The "who done it" had me flying through this one.

Out October 9.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

"Prom Queen" by Laura Wolfe offers a compelling mix of small-town high school drama and urban legend intrigue
Brooke's best friend Bailey, a cheerleader and prom queen mysteriously died 20 years ago and now Brooke must return to her former childhood home for the first time after her high school graduation.
Her goal is to flip the house over the summer and keep her head down. But living in a small town it is impossible to stay anonymous and not be pulled into past dramas. Brooke runs into an ambitious true crime podcaster who is investigating the suicide of her ex best friend. While Brooke hates the idea of monopolizing Bailey's death. A new piece of evidence leads her down a dangerous rabbit hole full of rumors, twists and turns.
I loved and was also sort of terrorized how this book was able to transport the reader back to a 2000s senior year of high school. With all of the friendship drama, cliques and rumors. Every small town has their own urban legend and most of the time we do not get to find out the truth about what really happened. This book had me in a vice grip. I read it in almost one sitting.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the chance to read this ARC. My heat is still pounding from the ending.
Will be posting and adding Tiktok review link over the next few days.

Prom Queen is a fun coming of age thriller that had strong true crime vibes with characters that all wear the trauma of the past on their sleeves. The teenage years impact us in ways that we fail to see at the time. Parental marriage breakdowns, friendships drifting apart and life experiences being just a few that alter our personalities from our formative years and beyond. Prom Queen does a good job of breaking that down and examining how lives can take a drastic turn no matter is you want them to or not.

Brooke was never going to be part of the popular crowd, but she didn’t care, she had her best friend, Bailey, and their group of misfits. That was until Bailey got into the cheerleading squad and literally dumped Brooke like a hot potato. She still wore her friendship necklace, but she was pretty much checked out from the relationship despite wearing the matching piece of jewellery.

I know that teenagers are extremely fickle beings. They fall out more times than I have hot dinners. It only takes an unkind word or a perceived slight to set them off. Believe me I own one of them! But I found the actions of Brooke sickening. I got quite angry reading the scenes were she would basically use her friend for nothing more than amusement got me wild. If I’m being honest there weren’t really any of the characters that were particularly likeable.

This wasn’t my favourite read if I’m honest. I’m such a character orientated reader and I like them to have strong backstories and I just felt as though that it was all plot and not much character. They lacked substance and grit. We knew really from the outset of how the night of Bailey’s death panned out and there weren’t many secrets to be unveiled. It took the mystery out of the mystery novel.

The podcaster element has been done before and I didn’t feel that it really brought anything new to the table The story was okay, but it didn’t stand out as anything special in a genre that has almost seen it all. I need to be shocked, and Prom Queen just wasn’t able to do that for me.

I would like to start by thanking NetGalley and everyone involved in allowing me early access. All opinions are my own.

“Prom Queen” is a captivating thriller about prom queen Bailey Maddox who allegedly kills herself after being coronated prom queen. 20 years later, a podcaster comes to the small village of Cove Haven to question whether Bailey killed herself or was murdered.

The starting is very captivating, we get right away into the story and the short chapters, as well as the dual timeline keep the reader interested from early on. I enjoyed this thriller, and would recommend to everyone who is looking for a fast pace and addictive book. It has some plot twists and an ending that I was very far from imagining. The only downside, for me, was the lack of multiple point of views, which lead me to think some characters were less developed than others. Additionally, the multiple POVs would increase the suspense, as some chapters in the middle don’t give this vibe and could have ended up with bigger cliffhangers. Other than that, I enjoyed this book and for sure want to know more of Laura’s books.

PROM QUEEN thrillers and horror are totally my jam! And Laura Wolfe does not disappoint with this novel. I was entertained and engaged the whole time, really ready to solve the mystery at hand. Prom Queen follows Brooke who just recently moved back to her little high school hometown because she needs to sell her mom’s house. Her high school best friend, Bailey, died on the night of their prom twenty years ago and they ruled it as a suicide. But a podcaster named Hannah has come into town to bust the case open again and see if that was really the case.

I enjoyed the past and present dual narrative as I normally do. And I think the way the past and present are unfolding at simultaneous times works really well in Prom Queen. There are clues and red herrings, conspiracies, scapegoats, more death, mysterious threatening notes, and more!

I thought I had it all figured out around 40%, but a curveball got thrown ALL our way and switched up the game completely. More than one, actually! And may we get a sequel?! Who knows! Definitely give this one a chance if you, too, find it fascinating how people can't ever get over and escape high school. Okaaaay. To be fair two people died by the same train tracks that kind of kept those high school feelings alive in this case. So I will give it a pass here. Wolfe put together a fun, twisty story!

Prom Queen is the latest deliciously sinister psychological thriller from US writer Laura Wolfe.
Brooke has arrived back in Cove Haven to help with the selling of her dead mother’s home.
Returning has brought up memories from the past and the unfortunate death of her childhood best friend, Bailey.
Brooke firmly believes that Bailey was murdered.
The shock of being in her hometown has set off gossip and everyone is talking about the prom back in the past and what happened on that fateful night.
But now Brooke is here she will stop at nothing to find out the truth even if it comes to danger, risk and ultimately murder.
A very intriguing story with a few twists and a glorious unexpected ending.
The talented author has created a clever, compelling and entertaining book that will give you a chill up the back.
I was glued to the plot, wanting to know everything and was shocked when all was revealed.
A cracker of a storyline, suspicious characters and a inventive puzzle for the reader to solve.
Bring on the next Laura Wolfe book.

Honestly, I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this one. I will say I was hooked from the beginning & for the life of me couldn’t figure out who murdered the prom queen. It definitely had lots of twists & had me changing my guess numerous times. Did she do it, did he do it or did they do it? I promise you won’t guess who the killer is. Overall the story was good, so if you like books that leave you guessing til the very last page then this one might be for you.

As always a huge thank you to NetGalley & Bookouture for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

OMG......... what a great read. Twisty, Thrilling and so fun to read.

The main character is Brooke. Her best friend Bailey died 20 years ago on Prom night. Was it really suicide?
20 years later and Brooke is back in town to oversee redecorating her late mothers house.
Notes start to appear accusing Brook of being a liar and not everyone is happy to see Brook back.
She joins forces with Hannah, a podcaster who is investigating Baileys death.
I read in book in a day - it was fast paced, thrilling and the ending was just brilliant.

I am going to go and read all of Lauras others books now. I cant get enough.

Highty recommend this book.
thanks to Natgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.

This book was really fun and fast passed. I really liked the small town setting of the story and the small town mystery. I really enjoyed the podcast aspect of the story it was pretty cool and adds a little extra to the story. The mysteries and twists and turns kept me at the edge of my seat the whole book. There was so much back and forth in the story but the author did an awesome job and it wasn't confusing and helped the story line a lot. This was my first book by Laura but I will be looking for more because I really enjoyed her writing style.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture a copy of this book!.

I was immediately hooked but at some point, it felt suffocating. At some moments I didn’t want to continue, or more like I needed a break. I didn't stop though. I finished it and let me tell you, my jaw dropped. Never once did I guess who killed her, because I suspected everyone. Didn't trust any of them. But the ending still shocked me.

Thanks, NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this Arc, it was great.

I'm getting a bit tired of all the podcast themed and cold case books, but I can't resist them once I read the plot synopsis. This grabbed me early on, was a quick read, and kept me guessing. First read with the author and definitely not the last.

Wow. This was so good!!
After her best friends mysterious death the night of their senior prom, Brooke Webber made the decision to leave their small town of Cove Haven. Returning 20 years later after the death of her mother, Brooke finds the best friend necklace Bailey had been wearing the night of her death. The thing is, when Bailey’s remains were found, she wasn’t wearing the necklace. How did it get back to Cove Haven, especially with the timing of Brooke’s return? Did someone steal it the night of Bailey’s death? Brooke starts receiving threatening notes on her car and she is scared that she will be next. When the person she least expects reveals some dark secrets, Brooke’s life is put at risk. How did Bailey really die? Who can Brooke trust in Cove Haven??
Find out on October 9!
Thank you so much NetGalley, Bookouture and Laura Wolfe for allowing me to read this book before its release!

So good. Again a twisty thriller that I didn’t see coming. When Brooke returns home to renovate her childhood home, memories of her high school prom and the death of her best friend come flooding back. Not just memories, but threats, and clues that Bailey’s death may not be what it seemed.

I really enjoy it when a story stumps me and this one did that. I’m usually fairly good at figuring out who did it, but not this time. Dual timeline and well written!
