Dear Author,
I’m intrigued to learn who this man is. Why does he have the blood on his chest and wrist? Is it the gargoyle that did to him? Is the gargoyle a shifter? Tell me what is the story behind this image.

Photo Description:
A black-haired, muscular young warrior, leather shirt open, six bleeding punctures in his chest, stares off to the right. Blood is everywhere. Dripping from the bared blade of his sword; from his open-palmed right hand and wrist; from the fangs of the monstrous Stone Beast on a pedestal behind him. Its eyes are blood-red, its long snout open in a snarl, its wings arced high. The scene is lit by thick candles oozing white wax.

This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Love Has No Boundaries" event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.

Guess what...that image ain't really me! (Not nearly enough grey hair). That's Kerry Chin Chew Yee's image of DarkFire for the cover of The Warlord and the Bard. And since he's the favorite of my characters...what better image? Maybe more about me later.

Surrender was written for the M/M Romance Group's Love Has No Boundaries picture prompt event. Told in first person from the young man, Karel, who is the warrior in the picture. The photo prompt is really, really cool. I wish it was used for the book cover.

Be warned there are some very graphic torture and rape scenes toward the end of the story.

This was an amazing story, especially if you like dark!fics (and it is very dark - please mind the warnings and don't read if any of that might squick you).

From the beginning, the story sucked me in. The author grabs your heart and squeezes it painfully, having a plot twist that reveals the significance of the title. I've started going through it a second time to pick up on details that I missed or that didn't seem important at first.

It is definitely not a HEA or HFN, but somehow, along with a feeling of despair, there is also a sense of hope. The writing is excellent and the universe is well crafted; there is so much potential for a sequel, prequel, side-stories, etc. I look forward to reading more by this author.

This story is a free read but is far, far better than many m/m ebooks I've spent (wasted) good money on. I know I will be thinking about this story for a long time to come.

Okay, this was unusual. The beginning was a little confusing. I skipped the gory parts, I can't stomach too much of that, especially late at night. It's nice to read something so completely different every now and then. I liked it.

E.A. Westfall is such a talented writer. His style is beautiful, poetic, and in this case it hurts. This book made me remember what it was like to grow up gay in the 60's and 70's. ,even tho it is set in a fantasy world. Don't miss out on this book.

I generally enjoy fantasy and m/m romance, so when you put them together, I expect to really love a well-written story. And I've read and enjoyed other work by this author, so I guess I had some expectations going into this book. And while this is technically well-written, it just didn't work for me. Not really my kind of story and I found it very difficult to connect to the characters in any meaningful way. Though I think it likely that someone with more of a penchant for darker stories might have a more enjoyable time with this one.

This was not my cup of tea far too much gore and violence.

I read it as part of the LHNB even staff. However, this story completely met with the parameters of the member's prompt, so it was definitely a gift to the M/M Romance member and group.

Thank you for your generosity.

[NOTE: I rate most writing event stories (free reads) 4 or 5 stars because of my appreciation of the author's participation.]

This story was a little hard to get into, as it tried to introduce a new society all at once. Eventually I really liked it even though I wished for a happier ending.

In contrast I found his other entry, "The Song," to be unreadable. It jumped around to different characters' points of view, and I found that distracting. I tried to finish it but couldn't.
