This book was a roller coaster of plots and characters. This is a dystopian fantasy novel which is rare all in its own. There are a plethora of characters to root for and hate. So many different relationships that make you feel for them and live in the moment. Michael is a strong character with so much to live for. He has lost it all but finds a new purpose to persevere. It is very detailed and you can picture every part of it. I can still see some of the creatures in my head (terrifying). A long powerful journey to find peace. To be The Angels of Resistance.

This is my first by this author and I really enjoyed it. The characters were well thought out the world building was descriptive enough that I could visualize what was taking place. The narrator was fantastic in bringing the story and characters to life. I look forward to more from this author and narrator

"Demons live to deceive."

I think it was like six months until I finally read this book! I have no idea why I waited so long! Once I picked this book up, I was HOOKED! I really have no idea where to begin with this review. This book was awesome and I am speechless! It was full of so many amazing characters, demons, wars, deaths, betrayals, love, friendship, and angels of course.

Mammina takes us on a journey to Pommel where we meet Michael. Michael has a secret.. He was created for something important. Michael was created to be a demon. But Micheal is not and will not ever be a demon! Well... that is if he can help it. Michael sets out to warn other kingdoms of the plague and while doing so, he plans to destroy the demons and the Demon Lord. So what happens when the demon plague follows him wherever he goes? What happens when the demons take his son? The Angels of Resistance happen! Michael meets many amazing people on his journey and he turns his tragedy into a reason to fight and live.

"I was your minion, but now I've become your destroyer."

David V. Mammina created a beautiful world. His words and characters were so creative and vivid that his book just flowed throughout my mind. He really has a way with words. I was picturing these demons exactly how he was describing them and let me be the first to tell you... they are scary! I am happy to announce that I did not see them in my dreams last night! hah

The Angels of Resistance is a very complex book with millions of characters and lots of things going on at once. I had to take notes on all the characters at first, just so I could figure everyone out. I really enjoyed Mammina's characters! Some were mean, some were nice, but they were all fun! I was really drawn to Predella for some reason! She was totally badass and I enjoyed reading about her battle scenes! Oh, since we are on the topic... lets talk about these war/battle scenes! THEY WERE EPIC! Mammina describes these scenes so perfectly! I felt as if I was right there in the middle of the war about to get killed by a demon. I love being able to place myself into a book! That is when you know you are reading a wonderful book and I am almost positive that other readers would agree.

I really look forward to reading more from David. V. Mammina and you guys all should to! This book is not your average angel vs. demon book. I know there are a lot of post apocalypse books out there but this one is unique. This book is truly like nothing I have ever read.

This fantasy novel is the epitome of what a fantasy novel should be: great heroes, great villains, high stakes, and big battles!

We read this and said, “Well... dang. Shoot. Darn it.” What's ironic is that we almost felt like giving up on this novel part-way through but forced ourselves to push through it in hopes of getting to the “good part.” We didn't realize we were about to hit a gold mine! There was about to be a truckload of good parts!

The first 100 pages of this book can be surprisingly boring for someone who is desensitized to fantasy fiction at this point. It sounds like it's going to be the same old generic tale we've heard a thousand times: a chosen-one hero with a tragic backstory and overpowered abilities trying to save a kingdom of generic and mostly-useless side characters and a sick queen/princess under a sleeping curse who needs her one true love to get her out of it. There are some examples of wrong-word usage, such as when “regardless” is used instead of “despite.” The writing isn't as beautiful and eloquent as Michael DeAngelo's (in “D'Aprille's Fools”) and the world-building is not quite as complex as Joanne Reid's (in “Gilraen and the Prophecy) or Emilie Knight's (in “The Ichorian Epics”), but when Mammina does his thing, it really works. When this book picks up, it REALLY picks up.

The following 400-500 pages of this includes some of the best storytelling and character moments we've ever read! It also includes the best battle (actually two battles) we've read about in a while! That's right, you're treated to not just one but TWO all-or-nothing battles in the same book. And when we say “all-or-nothing” we mean that people will die or suffer fates worse than death if the heroes are unsuccessful. What makes these battles so great is that not only are the stakes truly high and we care about them, but they have a fantastic build-up. All the pieces are moved into place before the battle as in protagonists develop beef (a feud) with antagonists before the battle, and we already know what many of the characters are capable of and what they want beforehand. Every character brings something to the table. Every character cares about something/someone. Every character dislikes or hates something/someone. Most importantly, every character WANTS something.

Another thing that makes these battles amazing is that every single major protagonist and antagonist has a moment or two to shine. Not to spoil too much, but for example: a character named Predella executes a one-in-a-million shot heard around the world, and a character named Eric essentially becomes a Sith in hopes of defeating the Sith with his newfound Darkside powers (and we all know where that leads). And that last example brings up another thing that makes this novel great: the gray characters, the layers, and the complexity. Good and evil aren't always clear-cut, there are characters like Eric who are on the edge or daring to cross the threshold. Even our main hero, Michael Miuriell, is on the verge of becoming the very thing he sought to destroy, and not in a lame Rey Skywalker sorta way. There are even times when we hate the very people we should be wanting our protagonists to help, namely the politicians. For example, the “sibling sovereigns” Lucas and Luca are two titanic pains in the rear-end. They constantly demonstrate ingratitude and an unwillingness to help the very army of protagonists who saved and protect them. We can imagine some readers will feel the same annoyance with characters like Princess Shina, but we didn't mind her nearly as much. What's amazing is that the author gives us, the reader, some relief by allowing protagonists to vent their shared frustrations at Lucas and Luca.

Another great reason to love this novel are the villains: the Demon Plague. They are despicable! The reader will absolutely love to hate them.

This is one of the best casts of villains in any book out there. Like the heroes, there's not just one overpowered evil villain who is clearly the one we're supposed to hate, there are many, and they're all unique in their own way. The villain who stood out the most to us was Sattka. She isn't the most powerful of the demons, but she is by far the best looking (humorously), most charismatic, and the one who gets up close and personal most of the time. She is capable and formidable enough for many of the protagonists to be wary of her in the final battles with them essentially saying (to paraphrase), “We need to keep Sattka in check.” She also has some great and disturbing villain moments that force us to cheer against her despite her appeal. Some of these may be too disturbing for some readers. She's not alone among the great villains. There's also the enormously powerful Valkris, Tenebrion, and the Demon Lord, the latter of which makes things very personal with our main protagonist by literally getting in his head. There's even an awesome evil vampire general named Kaila who has her moments. These villains constantly keep our heroes on their toes and force them out of their comfort zones.

And is it just us or are these some of the hottest characters in any book ever? The princes, princesses, and warriors sound hot. Even the demons and vampires sound hot! For some reason, the author felt the need to describe them all in this really sensualized way whether if it was relevant to the plot or not. There are so many descriptions of the villains/villainesses doing disturbing yet intimate-sounding villain/villainess things like savoring every moment of sucking the life out of their victims. Sattka is always dressed like she's ready for a night on the town. We know this because the author makes a point of telling us about how she dresses and how seductively she moves. Princess Shina, just by virtue of how her character is written in the story, comes across as incredibly appealing if not the most appealing in the whole book. The same can be said about Maxim among the men.

Lastly, Michael Miuriell is a terrific protagonist. Like Gilraen in “Gilraen and the Prophecy,” he is incredibly gifted with his powers and well-respected. Like Penn in “The Ichorian Epics,” he is driven and stubborn yet no less human with concern for the welfare of others. Like Frederic in “D'Aprille's Fools,” he has experienced a loved one being taken from him and is haunted by the thoughts of what has become of them. Also like Frederic, he has an unmistakable drive to do the right thing even if it means postponing the main mission.

There's too much good to say about this book!

Another Apocalypse story, but this is really very different from any others I have read, it has various elements involved from sorcery or magic to politics, past, present, future, it is basically a fight between good and evil. Survivors cluster together trying to get some semblance of order, and it is discovered that some have acquired inherited talents, a bit like super powers. As well as their new gifts, it is also discovered that a new evil that had been dormant through the millennia resurfaced and is hoping it will flourish and grow. The author did throw plenty in the mix in this story, plenty demonic elements, gory parts, it is quite a long story, but I am sure most will love it, I think this would be a terrific story for a movie and I would not be surprised if it was snapped up sometime in the near future to be turned into a movie.

The Angels of Resistance, by David V. Mammina, is a dark fantasy novel that follows Michael Miuriell as he journeys to conquer the darkness. Miuriell learns he is evil reincarnate, the second coming of a demon lord called Abaddon, and seeks to destroy the demon plague without losing himself in the process.

Michael Miuriell is known as a peacemaker throughout the kingdoms and yields great power. He commands the Staff of Truth and uses his telekinetic powers for good. The story begins with Miuriell stranded at sea after his beloved home of Pommel is destroyed by a demon plague. Michael is taken aboard a ship, headed for Tinaria, and he must warn the King before their kingdom faces the same demonic evil. Throughout the novel, Miuriell bands together the finest warriors the kingdoms have ever known, as well as another sorcerer to defeat the demon plague. Miuriell, along with Princess Shina, have ties yet to be uncovered to the demons they wish to destroy. To defeat the darkness, they will have to overcome the evil within and embrace their inner selves.

Author David Mammina has a very descriptive writing style. Most of the novel gives great imagery and it feels as if you are experiencing each battle with the characters. The story is fast paced, and the plot unfolds steadily throughout. The book is an interesting blend of supernatural demons, medieval fantasy with and sword and sorcery.

While I enjoyed the story, I felt that there was a large amount of characters introduced. So many people spring up throughout the story that they are hard to keep track of. When reading I focused on a small group of characters as they had more development and were a major part of the storyline throughout.

The Angels of Resistance is a riveting dark fantasy adventure. Author David Mammina twists the stereotypical demonic storyline into a gripping fantasy. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys epic fantasy novels with compelling characters overcoming darkness.

🖤 Sci-fi done in this manner frequently depends on banality and amazing characters cheapening unsurprising plots and shoddy composition, yet none of that is apparent here. The plot complexities venture far once again into the past, and you can truly feel the long standing fuming disdain as the strain works towards peak. Not the same as the rest and all the better for it.

🖤 There are a some major characters. Some I preferred, some I loved. Most of them are Michael, Maxim, Predella and Madam Orgento.

🖤 Michael is the chief! Shrewd, caring and everything that characterizes "great, awesome or perfect". Eric, was a man with a lot of negativities, or it's just that, I felt the negative vibes from Eric.

🖤 It has different components required from divination or sorcery to governmental issues, past, present, future, it is fundamentally a battle among good and evil. Survivors group together attempting to get some similarity to request, and it is found that some have procured acquired gifts, somewhat like super powers. Just as their new blessings, it is additionally found that another detestable that had been torpid during that time reemerged and is trusting it will prosper and develop. All credits and praises for David for doing such a great job writing this Apocalypse. Just an amazing story with all my attention and concentration.

🖤 The best job author did was maintaining a perfect grip to the readers. But yeah, the book was a lot deep and intense. It was not easy for me to take it in and I took a lot of time to make myself understand that it's just a fiction and not in real. Must read book. Grab your copies fast. 💯

The Angels of Resistance is a masterful dark fantasy epic that immerses readers in a vividly imagined feudal world teetering on the edge of chaos. David V. Mammina expertly weaves together intricate political intrigue, diverse cultures, and high-stakes battles, culminating in a gripping story of courage, strategy, and resilience. The demonic forces of the Demon Plague are terrifyingly realized, and the heroes’ journey to unite against such darkness is both compelling and emotionally resonant. At 654 pages, this book is a richly detailed, immersive experience that will captivate fans of epic fantasy and dark, morally complex storytelling.

This is probably a great book, but it seriously needed an editor. I thought I could get beyond the mis-spellings and grammatical errors, but they were every other page and it deflects from the writing. I thought at first maybe they were deliberate, defining a different time/era, but they were singular, random, and not repeated. Now, I've read the likes of Riddley Walker and I understand using an alternative form of language in a book. The errors in Angels were just sloppy writing.

“Vengeance was the first sin that penetrated his mind.” Pg.400
A thousand years following the Primeval Tragedy a new world had been rebuilt and excelled in technology. While the rich reveled in their modern achievements, a large part of the population lived in squalor on whatever pieces of land they found habitable. Their conditions and overpopulation spread disease like a plague. Territorial wars were unending.
An Asteroid on a collision course with earth forced temporary unity. All attention turned towards blowing up the asteroid in space before it could cause colossal damage to earth. They
were successful in destroying it however for three days and two nights lethal boulders crashed to earth. The results were horrendous as tidal waves, earthquakes and firestorms blanketed the continents. All nuclear plants melted down leaving earth in the dark with no power.
Pockets of survivors began to rebuild life starting a new age, distinguishing between race and cultural beliefs. Human nature of greed and need for power prevailed, the world was at war again. The era you will fall into is one of Kings and Queens, Knights, swords, barbaric battles, reincarnation, Prophets and sorcerers.
Amongst the strongest to survive, some had been given magical powers and were called ‘sorcerers’. Michael Miuriell had these powers to develop, but they did not stop the Demon Plague from slaughtering and conquering his town of Pommell. His brain was branded with the vision of a demon ripping his wife’s live heart out. These demons were not of this world.
The story begins with Michael being rescued from a small boat in the middle of the ocean, carrying only his Staff of Truth. It became his mission to warn all Kingdoms, East to West about the demonic army with abominable strength in numbers and supernatural powers. Unbelievably they were able to wipe out whole Kingdoms within one night. One of their purposes was the annihilation of mankind but there was much more on their agenda.
What follows is an escalating drama of dark fantasy, Good versus Evil. There are numerous characters integral to the plot and conclusion. Descriptions of the battle are so rich in graphic detail that you may cringe during some of the battle scenes leading up to the conclusion.
The author, David V. Mammina started his writing career after high school. He enjoys Dark Fantasy novels as an escape for his sincere persona.
Not my usual genre, I was captivated by how the settings came alive and the complexity of the story. It may be a lengthy read but it is a fast-paced page turner.
With no hesitation, I Highly Recommend this read.

Most people will agree with me when I say : the author's artistic writing style doesn't help much when the story falls a shade paler or vice versa. But when the author's art of story telling is mesmerizing and puissant like the story planned in his/her head then the readers are in for a treat. And this book is a treat, trust me.
There are a passel of characters. Some I liked, some I didn't. My favorites are : Michael, Maxim, Madam Orgento and Predella.
Michael is the boss! Wise, selfless and all things that defines "perfect".
I love Madam Orgento. Even in such a dreadful situation she pulled her so well, resulting me in looking at her with awe and adoration. I didn't like Eric. He gave me negative vibes from the very start.
David did a great job at keeping the readers hooked by twisting the plot countless times to the point of profusion. After every few pages, I kept the book down, sighed, and mumbled to my self, "okay, I'll need a few minutes to process that."
The stuff is intense, I am telling you.
This book gave me --hey-Tuba-i-am-watching-you-- feeling and I nervously looked around to see if anyone was really there or not. It's not like a shadow demon would have popped out of the corner with his elongated fangs to feast on me, but still! You see? This is how powerful writing styles affect readers. Kudos to David for maintaining the chilly and creepy aura throughout the book.
The cornucopia of twists left me exhausted (in a good way) and now I can't stop thinking about TAOR.
The only problem I had: the battles between the demons and and the people seemed to be going on forever. Way too long. That had me losing interest a tad bit. Or maybe it's just my vendetta against lengthy descriptions. I am sure most people will enjoy those battle parts.
I loved this book and I highly recommend it to fantasy lovers.
