Cryptic, dark, and surreal; though PHENOMENALLY drawn. This shows a very personal and hallucinatory experience of getting sober. Even if it's not for everyone, I'd say it's still worth the read.

Не знаю як у вас, а в мене часто буває, що супергеройські комікси починають викликати нудоту і що б її перебороти я вирушаю на пошук нових, оригінальних робіт. Саме в одному з рейдів на комікс індустрію я і натрапив на воістину нетипову річ.

Image в моєму віртуальному топі видавництв займає перше місце і річ не тільки в їхньому справді шедевральному коміксі ”Сага”, але й у багатьох інших цікавих проектах. Непередбачувані сюжети, розмаїття авторів серед яких і такі зірки як Браян Вон і безліч нових імен.

”Shadowline” – спеціальний проект Image, котрий об’єднує в собі комікси з темною атмосферою, до нього і належить ”Мініатюрний Ісус ” Макківера.

Автор сюжету, шрифтер і художник все той же Макківер і це привертає ще більше уваги, бо зовсім одна справа, коли над створенням коміксу працює тріумвірат, і зовсім інше діло коли одна людина має достатньо таланту і вмінь щоб самостійно вивести в світ своє дітище.

В результаті маємо чорно-білий комікс з п’яти випусків, прекрасно промальований, з багатьма крутими поворотами сюжету, власною філософією і психоделічними сценами в яких реальність ламається починаючи з першої ж сторінки.

В маленькому містечку на очах в фанатичного пастора і його маленького учня на хресті оживає фігурка Ісуса і спускається на землю, в той же час колишній алкоголік бореться зі своїми внутрішніми демонами і не зрозуміло, чи це світ зрушив з місця, чи це його хворий розум грається з ним.

Мініатюрний Ісус відкриває нові можливості жанру ”комікс”, Макківер розповідає свою історію, і навіть показує нам, як на його думку виглядає бог.

Крута сатира і сцени достойні ”Ерейзерхеда” Девіда Лінча, хочете відчути дещо абсолютно нове? Тоді цей комікс для вас.

There's one thing for sure--Ted McKeever never seems to be without originality of concept. Each of his Image Shadowline projects seems to be radical reinvention and new direction.

Miniature Jesus is the most straightforward--it's literally an alcoholic facing his demons with a little help of "Miniature Jesus", while Meta4 was about the search for indentity/meaning and Mondo was a weird "power fantasy".

This is the most relateable I'd say. This is Ted McKeever showing what the medium can do outside of the superhero genre, and while not easy--it's also the most approachable, irreverence aside.

McKeever does all his comics in just black and white, and oversized. For once, this make sense--as this story is about the grey area in life, not just black and white dualities and binaries.

Very very strange. So I liked it. Only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is that I was having seizures when I read it so I think a re-read is going to be essential to grasping it. Then again, maybe that was exactly how it should have been read.
