I guess everyone knows this famous photo showing a young and fierce revolutionary with shoulder long hair wearing a hat with a little star . You know, the one that's on so many t-shirts and posters. That's him, Che Guevara.
But, I think, there are many who don't really know who this man with the handsome face actually was. They just wear this shirt with Guevara's face on it cause "it's cool and everyone does it". Just that it's not cool, it's rather stupid if you don't even know who Guevara was and what he did - sorry, just my opinion.

And opinions concerning Guevara couldn't go farther apart. Some consider Ernesto Che Guevara a symbol of revolution, a saviour, saint, and icon. Others call Che Guevara simply a psychotic killer, a monster even (So that's probably why running around with a Guevara shirt isn't as unproblematic as it seems).

Now, what I really like about this biography is that it simply states facts. If you actually want to know why some hate and others idolize Guevara, this book gives all the answers. In a surprisingly interesting fashion the author succeeds in showing us the actual man behind all the glorifying, mystifying, and demonizing of his person.

And I think it is quite important to know at least a little something about this person that did play an important role in world history and influences people still - even now a days.
He was an adventurer, revolutionary, "guerillero", soldier, father and politician. People made him to be an idol, saint, savior, incorporation of evil, and monster - all rather debatable. But what can't be denied - he is quite an interesting person to read a biography about. Especially if it's such a good biography as this one.

Diese Biografie hätte genauso aus einem Schulgeschichtsbuch stammen können. Daher mochte ich den Schreibstil gar nicht. Ohne Hintergrundinformationen kommt man leider nicht wirklich voran; ich kenne mich mit der lateinamerikanischen/kubanischen Geschichte nicht wirklich aus und habe mich beim Lesen sehr verloren gefühlt.
Ich mochte jedoch, dass das Buch möglichst “neutral” war, der kritischen Seite seiner Person wurde eine Stimme gegeben. Vielleicht lese ich seine Biografie noch einmal, wenn ich mich mit der Geschichte mehr auseinandergesetzt habe. (oder ich greife zu einer anderen Biografie)

Die Biographie ist sehr klar und präzise geschrieben. In knapp 140 Seiten steckt extrem viel Information. Außerdem ist das Buch Interesse weckend und ein Großteil der Informationen ist bei mir hängengeblieben. Auch gut finde ich das ab und zu Bilder zu sehen sind, wodurch man sich besser in das Geschehen reinfühlen kann. Zwischendurch kann man auch vereinzelte Sätze aus Guevaras Tagebüchern oder Briefen lesen, wodurch man einen Eindruck von seiner Art zu schreiben bekommt.

Letztendlich hat mich jedoch gestört, dass keine Kritik an ihm so wirklich zum Ausdruck kam. Ich hab mich nach dem Lesen dieser Biographie mit jemanden aus Lateinamerika unterhalten, welcher auch Kontakt zu Kubaner_innen hat/hatte und habe von ihm sehr viel negatives über guevara sowie Castro erzählt bekommen. Darum hab ich mich im Nachhinein ein wenig gewundert warum manche wichtige Informationen so garnicht in dem Buch geteilt wurden…
