Alaska Wolf Shifter Clan #1

Her Arranged Alpha Husband

Rate this book
Love at First Sight and a Forced Marriage

Ben saw her for the first time dancing naked in the jungle, and he’s hooked from the beginning.

Teri didn’t want to get stuck in an arranged marriage to some distant alpha that she heard came from a powerful and reckless clan.

TERI
Teri was devastated to be forced in to a marriage.

Being a female felt like a punishment daily.

She knew the rules of the kingdoms, but dread filled her when she was told it was time.

It was a savage rule to give her away, but she didn’t have a choice.

Her mate was Ben, an egotistical jerk from what she heard.

If the rumors were true, she had been given to a very dangerous shifter.

He was from a dangerous, warring clan and as Alpha he ruled his people with an iron fist.

Not to mention he was up in North Alaska, and she was pretty sure she was going to freeze to death.

Why would her father set her up with such a beastly shifter?

However, after meeting him, she had to wonder why the devil was so handsome.

She got married to Ben with lots of fears, doubts, insecurities and questions in mind. Like, was she ever going to heal from all this? How she was going to stay with a total stranger, who had bad reputation? And how she was going to survive in extreme colds when she had been living in hottest regions all her life?

But she had no idea this ruthless and savage alpha was in love with her the moment he saw her dancing in the jungle and he was going to do anything to keep her safe and win her heart.

And she went from hating him, to needing him…

I didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. It had so many twists and turns that kept you reading. I would have loved this book to be expanded on so that we had more details in the action scene, but that is just my opinion. The characters were appealing but not over dramatic. It was a good, easy read for a lazy day and not heavy on the shifter side of things, so anyone who likes a romance could try.

DNF'ed... Even though it is such a short read, I can't get myself to finish it. The concept was good, and the book could have been good but....

As always if I think a book is bad or extremely bad like this one, I get my husband to read a chapter to make sure it is not just me being in a bad mood or something. And he scolded me for even trying to continue reading further!! I'll put my notes down below with text from the book and my comments, marked with ().

The book is unfortunately filled with "tell". Telling us what just had happened and what people had told them, instead of showing us and because of this I don't feel any emotions from the characters at all. We get told that they are mad or scared and whatnot, but we can't feel it through the page.
And it's really hard to read with all the errors, wrong words in the middle of a sentence and awkward sentences.

Chapter 3
(How does Ben know that Teri wasn't there? Nothing was mentioned how he knew, was he told? Couldn't he smell any unmated females? What?)

Chapter 4
(In the beginning of chapter 4 I had no idea who was talking until half a page later Teri mentioned her friend... very confusing.)

Chapter 5
Teri never looked back up there to him though, not once. He tried hard to get her attention, but she wasn’t giving it. (How was he trying to get her attention? Because from what I understand he doesn't make a single sound and he is hiding from faraway...)

(Ummm... you can't just skip the 21 days courting thing without giving us the spicy shit about how Ben tried to find her, court her... something... it was 21 important days and they were taken away from the reader.. what!)

Chapter 7
Ben’s entourage was more than ready to get the mating ceremony done and over with. (Yeah.. where did his friend disappear to?)

She was from Death Valley, which meant that all of the people that he’d talked to about her had given him insight that he needed to make it work with her. (What does that have to do with where she's from? I need the info.)

He kissed her with the veil over most of her face. It didn’t seem to matter that he wanted more, see more, do more, he only got to kiss her briefly before she pulled away. (don't take their first kiss from me like that... what is this bullshit, I don’t care if it wasn't romantic, but this "tell" is bullcrab and I'm mad....)

Chapter 8
His dark blonde hair was pushed back from his face and when it was relaxed, he was young and determined. (???)

Teri sighed and turned to face him. (I thought she was facing him here.)

Chapter 9
She couldn’t believe that he had said such a thing. He meant it too. His damn eyes were so dark, she couldn’t help but squirm under his gaze. It made her take a step or two back, which about put her into the hallway. She was running scared again and Ben didn’t want that to happen. (The chapters are marked by name.. this is Ben's chapter, so why is she having a POV here, and then it shifts to Ben again..?

Chapter 10-11
How do they carry all the tents and supplies when they shift? what about their clothes?

Chapter (I forgot to write down the chapter, sorry.)
“Why don’t you just use the draw that you have on her? I am sure if you turned that up, she would be unable to say no to you. It’s not ideal, but it’s better than going back home with a virgin bride that everyone can smell. I can smell her, Ben.” The conversation was ending badly and if Mark was having that hard of a time hiding his needs and desires, what was that to say about others that saw it? (before he looked surprised at Ben for still not having mated her, now he can smell they haven't?! And by the way, I think it's the first time they mention they can smell something like that. There has not been much shifter smell enhancement in this story so far. What was the last thing about? There has been no mention of Mark feeling desire towards Teri or that Ben should be careful with unmated men stealing his mate before. It's very left-handed. And shouldn't she know she was in danger? Would the males in her own city not have acted like horndogs around her also?)

She knew that she was attracted to him. She knew that they were together, he owned her, Fate brought them together, all of it. She knew all of that, but it was when he kissed her that she finally started to understand what all of it meant. Teri was dying for him and when he pulled back abruptly, it made her whine. (But they have kissed before. She makes it sound like it's the first time they kiss.)

she could see his ear turn up toward her and Teri wanted to laugh. It was comical the look on his face when he saw the state of her. (what? Did he shift or can he move his ear in human form? And does he have his back turned to her or is he facing her?? I'm confused.)

Page 86
(Ben is an idiot, not even preparing a virgin correctly...)

letting their connection seep in and kissing away all of her fears and pain. He didn’t want to hurt her, but it wasn’t like he had a choice. He didn’t. Ben needed her (he could have warmed her up properly.)

Teri woke up with a start and she jerked up. Ben touched her hand and told her that everything was okay. He was next to her, watching her, and he told her that everything was okay. (I'm unsure. Did he tell her that everything was okay?)

(In chapter 17, Teri suddenly is psychic. It had not even been hinted at earlier, so this just feels left-handed.)

Page 93, “You can’t stay here with her, Ben. The attackers are coming. (Mark just told him he killed them all...)

Ben agreed finally and asked her once what was up with her and Mark. “You know that it wasn’t all his fault, you know?” (two pages ago he didn't trust Mark either... can he be decisive or not??!!)

Teri said that there wasn’t, but she had a feeling. Teri liked to follow her gut, it did her right usually. (I hardly doubt it or there wouldn't have been all that drama at the beginning of the book)

This was a short and easy read. It is not the type I typically read but did seem to have the aspects that are included in a shifters book. The shifting, clans, mates, draw, etc.
My favorite character has to be Teri, she is stubborn and strong willed. She loves her family fiercely and loves her independence. Ben is not the typical alpha male. He is kind and patient with her and doesn't want to use any powers in order to claim her as his. This story includes some twists and turns but everything happens so fast. It didn't give me the opportunity to really get into the story and try and predict what happens before it was written. I feel as though Ben's mom could have had a bigger part in the story.

Forced marriages often times do not work out for both parties involved. Teri just wants her freedom she doesn’t want to be forced to marry an alpha especially one with a terrible reputation proceeding him dangerous, known to be ruthless, savage, isn’t nice to most people, powerful, and absolutely the worse pick of a husband for her not to mention he lives in Alaska a place she would freeze to death. She was so angry at everyone, so she showed this by refusing to meet her supposed arranged husband for weeks making him wait of course (😊 my kind of girl) Ben sexy as all get out alpha with a reputation proceeding it some of it is correct however most isn’t so correct but allowing other to believe it allows him to protect his pack very well the first time he saw his mate she was dancing naked among the trees and she fell in love with her and now he just has to convince his girl that she is perfect for him however, she is making it hard for him by disappearing before their marriage. Eventually she shows up to do as she is instructed as a female pack member with little choice or say in what happens but being happy well that is another story he has his work cut out for him will he show her that he loves her, will protect her, will she learn to work with him when trouble heads their way, can he earn her trust, can he earn her love, can he convince her she isn’t going to die from the cold, and is there a HEA written for them somewhere on this adventure?

Ben is the heir Alpha werewolf to his pack in Alaska. His father had been saved by another, so he owed the other, so they arranged for his daughter to mate Ben. Ben had to give up his mistress, and go meet his future mate, Teri, in Dead Valley. Talking about a long distance relationship with the parents after this! Teri’s older sister Ashley is trying to talk her sister into giving Ben a chance. That the arranged matings worked out. Teri just wanted to stay where she was, but the matings worked more for the males than the females. There are loads of reveals in this book. I enjoyed it immensely and there were quite a few fights and misunderstandings too. Teri is awesome. I also liked Ben and some of the people in the packs. I didn’t like Ben’s father from the beginning. My ‘radar’ kept dinging every time he was on the page. I’m not going to spoil the whys and wherefores.

So finally, Ben talks her into actually mating, which is funny as they are so drawn to each other, d’uh they are fated! Lol. Then he has to travel all the way back from the lower portion of the US, all the way to Alaska. He baked in her area and she froze her stuff in his. There are loads of reveals and the world built by the author is kinda cool. I loved Ben’s mom. I really enjoyed the book and can’t wait for the next one.

This was a great book and the main characters had me laughing out loud in moments as they struggle in each others worlds as a married and a mated pair. Teri lives in Death Valley and her father the Alpha has just told her she is to marry Ben an Alpha from an Alaska clan who she finds out is a ruthless and reckless leader and she will be moving to Alaska and she knows she is going to freeze to death but now that she has meet him why did he have to be so sexy hot. Ben is the Alpha of the Alaska wolf clan and is going to Death Valley clan to meet his mate and when he first she’s her she is dancing naked in the forest and she is gorgeous and he is glad she is to be his but when the officially meet she doesn’t want to get married or move to Alaska but there attraction to each other is off the charts. Now in Alaska Teri meets Ben’s parents his mother is amazing but his father isn’t friendly at all and this has her on guard and most of the clan are nice and welcoming but its to cold and she is struggling but with Ben finally keeping her warm at night it isn’t so bad. There is so much more going on in this book there is familial treachery, danger, drama are just a few thing that had me hanging on the edge of my seat waiting to find out how it all works out in the end and do they get the HEA or not.

I thought Teri left a lot to be desired. Her behavior was over the top and very disrespectful to literally everyone before she gets to Ben’s pack. Ben was so great, taking everything in stride, trying to be a good husband. Mark was a terrible friend almost from the start of him being in the book. I really didn’t see all the stuff coming with the attacks and Ben’s pack. Really didn’t see it coming. Teri was much better after she finally accepted Ben and didn’t treat him like the enemy. Overall good story—so much betrayal!.

Ben received the news that he had to travel to Death Valley to meet his mate. This is a stark contrast to the Alaskan tundra he's used to. On the other hand, Teri is not pleased with the idea of having a mate as she values her independence. Unfortunately, neither Ben nor Teri will have their desired outcome. This story contains familial treachery and plenty of romance, ending in a HEA. Very highly recommended.

Struggled finishing this book.
It was a short story but just couldn’t get into it.
I completely turned against it when he went to the other clan and the woman came up to him naked and he got hard and spoke about his ex. Like he said he was in love with Teri yet this happened?! It made me sick that he thought of her in a sexual way then went back to Teri like nothing happened and that was that. Why add that to the story if nothing came of it? All it did was make me hate him.

Very accurate rating. Short sweet, but was more of a story telling than reading a book. I never could get the movie playing in my head with this one. It was too slow and then two fast. Great idea the writing just wasn’t there. But I was needing a real shifter book after reading the bride and this was good enough.

This was terrible. It was very clearly written by Ai because the context and grammar were off. I bought for Kindle the whole series, but returned it for a refund. I didnt finish the book becuase it was so poorly written. I would be amazed if this author was real, maybe she is, i dont know, but all i do know is that she did not write this book, it was awful.

The author has given us a wonderful story that pulls us into the lives of Ben and Teri. The story keeps us turning the pages with an arranged marriage, connection, insecurities, danger and steam.

Giving it 1.5 ⭐️
The writing style was stilted with a child like quality. But the plot was intriguing and the synopsis was written well. If the story was rewritten with more of an effort and with better editing, it would have potential.

The blurb sounded so good and I was really excited but sadly my expectations were too high. The characters felt flat and the story was a little bit boring. I think the idea and the shifter world the author created are interesting but it needs some rework.

I agree with most people in the reviews. The plot was great, but the writing could’ve been better. I loved the way the relationship grew between Teri and Ben, but it did feel very rushed. I did enjoy reading it though.

The whole book is written in third person and no actual speech between the characters was used. All conversation between characters were told in a vague way. No in depth storyline and it skipped so many details. Very poorly put together. 😬

The plotline had potential but found the book very lacking. Very repetitive and skimmed over important parts. Didn't like it was written in third person.

I hate ripping books apart because time/effort/money went into it.

But this was yikes.

The bones are there. The plot had some moments, but it needs a lot of reworking and editing.

Pity. Struggled to finish.
This book is so bad written. Even if the plot is somehow good, the writing is awful. I had a hard time reading it.

The writing was a bit odd for me. Rather than "see" the action unfold, the characters would tell what had happened. And a couple of times, they would say that something had happened and I would flip back a couple of pages because I felt like I had missed what they were telling me.
