In full research* mode, I'm getting lots of books that promise people to be able to cook quickly. I'm really interested to see what people buy to help them. Do these books help or do they result in making people disillusioned and defeated?
It would be sad if someone was determined to try to cook and then found that the effort was far more than they expected. If the attempt puts them off from trying again, I think that book did more harm than if it had never been published.
I fear this book may fall into this category. I actually have another of Ann Willan's books. I had it early in my career as a chef and I did learn from it so I wasn't expecting something that missed the mark of its title quite so much.
The instructions are so long and wordy, some of which are in italics, that the publishers included a shorter version of instructions for each recipe on each page that summarises what you have to do. The summary in itself, in all caps, is not terribly easy on the eye.
