Sandi Webster, Los Angeles P.I., has a new case. When a drunken bum is found dead in her client’s basement, she has to figure out who might have had a motive for murder other than a young, single mother. In the process of investigating the crime, Sandi uncovers secrets she’d rather not know. Sandi’s partner, Pete, is searching for a killer in Nevada, leaving her to fend for herself, something she does with finesse.
In the meantime, a huge dog named Bubba adopts Sandi and moves in, but shows signs of cowardice when eerie sounds are heard coming from the attic. Could Sandi live in a haunted house?
I loved this book just as much as the first one in the series. The characters were so engaging and likeable, and, what made this one even more enjoyable was Bubba, the big, goofy, grinning dog who wormed his adorable way into Sandi's life despite her reluctance and hesitancy.
The mystery was well done and, even though I started to have an inkling near the end of who the murderer was, I had no idea of the motive. Bubba's ghost had me mystified right until the end. I had no clue what was causing all the strange goings-on in Sandi's house, but, it turned out to be quite hilarious!
I would definitely recommend this series to any fan of the cozy mystery genre.
Blurb contains stuff at 49% mark, which makes first half of book feel slow, waiting for expected thing to happen. Add that the sleuth is too stupid to follow up at a crucial moment, despite already being suspicious things wouldn't be done right. And the ending dragged with her not doing enough about something. 2.5*
I love spending time with enjoyable characters. Detective Sandi Webster and her partner Pete are two of the best. But I loved Bubba the dog most of all. What a great character. And don't get me started on his smile. Really adorable. Marja McGraw is one writer who knows how to get the reader involved, not only with her characters, but also in the story that kept me turning pages until the very end. This is one of the best cozy mystery stories I've read. I highly recommend it.
I debated long and hard between four and five stars because I liked this book a lot. It was a comfortable, easy read that kept my interest and curiosity going. I finally decided on four stars because I didn't feel a spark between the main character and her love interest. Perhaps it was too difficult because of the setting for the story. Loved the interaction of all the other characters. I will read more of this author.
Another delightful addition to this series. Sandy investigates a bum who is harrassing her next door neighbor's granddaughter. Pete goes out of town to check on the missing wife of an insurance agent and is only slightly in the picture in this one. Bubba, the dog, is a hoot. An all-around enjoyable series.
If you're looking for a good mystery, look no further. "Bubba's Ghost" by Marja McGraw has it all: an intriguing plot, fascinating, likeable characters and a dash of humor. This novel is a wonderful addition to Ms. McGraw's Sandi Webster Mystery series, one you won't want to miss.
