Sometimes the only way to love and redemption is to make a deal with the devil!

After the death of her parents, Lady Aurora de Marquise is left with no illusions and little faith. Stripped of her birthright and betrayed by her uncle, escape is her only option. With her life on the line, she narrowly avoids another murder attempt - only to run headlong into Lord Brigham de Mornay, a man most consider a monster!
With her uncle’s henchmen nipping at her heels, Aurora knows better than to trust a stranger - especially one as compelling as Brigham. Well-honed instincts urge her to flee before his abundant charm takes a nasty turn into aggression - and she ends up neck deep in trouble!
But when her uncle manages to track her, the game of fox and hound takes a perilous turn and she is left with the ultimate choice - risk everything trying to escape again or trust Brigham to keep her safe...

Set in northern England near the Scottish border, Warrior’s Revenge is a gritty, fast-paced medieval romance in which second chances are possible, and true love lies just a heartbeat away.

Episodes 1 - 4 - 2 stars.

As much as I wanted to really like this; it was kind of hard. I would have liked to see more depth to the characters and the plot itself. A little hard I guess, because the book is a short read, with following episodes to follow through. Fingers crossed the following episodes will turn around.

This is a Kindle serial series, with new episodes being delivered on a weekly basis.

Meh. This book was way too modern. Spilling the beans? Using "Goddamn" randomly? groin? and "Wait a moment. Back up a step!" Those are just a few examples. If I am reading a novel that takes place 1247, I want it to feel authentic.

The characters did a lot of thinking. I got tired of reading their thoughts. I wanted more dialogue, at least, the meaningful kind.

The beginning sucked me in with the plight of Aurora, the heroine and her struggle with her dastardly and cruel uncle. This was the last time I felt menaced by this uncle.

When she meets Brigham, the big, brawny warrior, I'm not even swooning. What did he look like again? Why was he so dangerous? He mistakes Aurora for a trollop and she knees him in the groin.

Later, he finds her and demands to make her pay with passion. Hmm. She fell for him way too fast! He fell for her way too fast! It was just lust. The nooky wasn't even that good.

It just didn't come together for me. Also, why was this called Warrior's Revenge?

It's been awhile since I've read a historical romance. I enjoyed it. I like that the hero was pretty much infatuated with the heroine from the start and he pursued her pretty relentlessly. It is historical and the male/female dynamic is different in that time so these are the tropes I don't overly judge unbalance of the male vs female power.

story was so-so. not bad at all, just a bit simplistic and predictable.
something other bothered me more.

language!
if you pick up a historical anything youd expect it to have a authentic language that was used in the period as well as characters to have a correct mind set. like, not the kind we have now.

other than that, there is one thing where this book shines.
sex!
lol...
lots and lots of sex done from every possible angle in every possible situations. very hot juicy sex done in great detail:=

A waste

Sorry I spent the money to buy this drivel. There was more sex than plot. I stayed the course to finish it and finally got some semblance of a real story in the last few chapters. Don't waste your time or money. I try to give everyone a second chance but the only way I'll try another of this author's books is if it's free.

This is the first book that I read written by Coreene Callahan (I've read them all.) It has a great storyline. I loved the way the relationship between Brigham and Aurora grew and changed as they were changed by coming to know each other.

I didn't want the story to end.

Let me tell you what this book is about and maybe you'll be as ragey as I am about it. (I generally only give one-star reviews to books that are just so atrociously written there's no saving them or books that offend me in some way. This book was not badly written.) This book is about an abuser following the Abuser's Manual to Abusing and his victim being TSTL and how he makes her love him. Let me explain...

...But first, yes, I KNOW it's historical fiction and gender politics were different and all that, but NO. Just NO. The book didn't really immerse you in the time period to a point where you forgot yourself--it never went beyond swords and castles and dresses, oh my. And no, I'm not looking for an anachronistic feminist treatise in my historical romance, but this book went waaaaay too far, in my opinion. So no, and on to the explaining...

1) Our grand hero makes his entrance into the novel by mistaking our heroine for a prostitute and propositioning her. He doesn't take "no" for "no" when she refuses, physically manhandling her to the point that she feels he will force her. She uses her cunning to get away by flirting with him, then kneeing him in the balls and riding away on his horse. Let me make this clear: HE assaults HER, and she defends herself.

2) The second encounter between the two MCs involves a surprise encounter, where she tells him he's actually his friend's bride's best friend, and a lady at that (all of which should have merited his respect, if a prostitute could have been disrespected), and he says she owes him recompense for her insults and injuries against him. He plans to take his recompense in the form of "small intimacies" and swears he will have what she promised him. DUDE. What about his insults and injuries against her? Girl was defending herself.

3) He doesn't like that she said no, SO HE LAYS HER OVER HIS KNEE AND SPANKS HER FOR IT. Repeatedly. WHAT. What. Claiming it was his right. HIS RIGHT. I very nearly DNF'ed the book right there, but I was listening to the audiobook and didn't have anything next in the queue. Shoulda DNF'ed it anyway.

4)She tells her two besties what happened, and they both are outraged and then FIND IT FUNNY. Tell me, what is funny about your friend being beaten by some dude who had no right to touch her? There's not even some time-period-correct lame excuse like Claire and Jamie had in Outlander about husbands punishing wives or other such nonsense. This guy was NOTHING to the FMC, and still felt he had the right to touch her in violence, all for having said no and having defended herself against his assault. And her so-called "friends" think it's amusing. (Outlander, btw, really did get the time period immersion thing right, so more leeway can be allowed in the reading.)

5) One of said besties says FMC can't avoid MMC forever because it's her wedding and she wants everybody to get along. Right, so everybody should tolerate the abuser and his bad behavior and make the victim make nice.

6) p 90: "'My intention was to chasten you and make you understand the foolishness of your actions...Not mark you, Aurora.' A wave of relief swelled inside her. She wanted to believe him.Wanted to believe he wasn't the unfeeling brute she liked to call him. And that mayhap...just mayhap...he really hadn't intended to hurt her." RIGHT. Because what you "intend" is what really counts when you beat a woman for refusing you.

7) p 92 FMC asserts that she owes the MMC nothing (after his half-assed inquiry after her wellbeing after beating her) and MMC interprets this as a challenge. She then blames herself for having poked the dragon and "Intentional or not, she'd just given him another reason for his pursuit." Right. Because the victim is responsible for the violent predatory behavior of the abuser.

8) p 126 "How far could she go before he lost his temper with her?" Victim modifies her behavior to appease the abuser. Repeatedly, all throughout the book.

9) Abuser separates victim from her friends and protectors, making himself her sole support: p 252 "He wanted [FMC and bestie] separated for a while. The sooner Aurora accepted her new life--and came to rely on him for support instead of Quinlyn--the easier her adjustment would be."

There's more, but that's plenty to be getting on with. Do yourselves a favor. Save yourselves the rage. Give this book a pass.

This book was awesome!!

Honestly one day I am gonna just say that.. let the rest of you figure out what I mean. LOL.. but that would mean me not giving my complete opinion.. and we all know that would be impossible.

Seriously though, maybe because it was originally written in serial format, but this book was absolutely brilliant. There were no lags or dull moments. The entire book captured the reader's attention and made you interested in every moment.

Taking a break from her Dragons and mystical knights (DragonFury Series and Circle of Seven Series - you can guess which one is which) Coreene Callahan visits medieval times.. and no not the restaurant *grins* Coreene begins her Warriors of the Realm Series (at least I am hoping it's gonna be a series).

Lady Aurora de Marquise once the beloved and pampered child of adoring parents is now the ward of an evil uncle and manipulative aunt. Both believe in torturing her spirit if not her body but the time has come and Aurora believes they want her dead. Escape is her only choice. Leaving the keep with just one servant Aurora heads for the only place she feels she can be safe. Her best friend's wedding, hoping that by throwing herself upon the groom's mercy, she will find safety. Along the way, she stumbles into the arms of a knight who wants more than Aurora is willing to give... Once again showing an intrepid bit of self and using the knight's arrogance against him, Aurora is free.. Reaching the keep where she believes she will find safety. Only to learn that her troubles have followed her.

Lord Brigham de Mornay is not the man most maidens dream of. In fact most of the world consider him nothing more than a killing machine. Left with only a few friends and his trusted vassals Brigham does his duty and ignores the rest. But on his way to his Vassal's wedding Brigham stumbles upon a delicious maid that got the better of him. Now he wants to put his reputation to the test and gain some revenge. Only to discover that the same maid is under his protection..

If Brigham is willing to believe in love, if he is willing to put his past aside, learn to trust he can be the man Aurora needs. He can offer her a world of love and laughter. A place where once again she feels secure.. Only how does one forget betrayal?

Aurora knows she has few choices so when she is caught (by the bishop no less) in a less than stellar situation, she knows bending to Brigham's desires and becoming his wife is her only choice.. But even that isn't going to be simple because she still has her uncle on her trail..

An exciting fast paced book! You won't be able to stay away from it once you start reading. I know many people began with the serial but for me, I enjoyed waiting for the book! The entire experience is just too good to miss!! I know Coreene has this listed under Warriors of the Realm Series on her website.. at this time, as far as I know, it's the only book in this series (or planned book). I know she has plenty to do with the other two series.. but come on.. you can't leave us hanging.. I want more Warriors of this Realm as well!!

Medieval Erotica?

Sensual cat & mouse game between the hero & heroine. Macabre one with the heroine & her uncle. Just thrown into a surroundings of medieval with not necessarily the sensibilities of the period nor virginal shyness. As well as several other inconsistencies & editing problems.

So if you want a little period detail in your historical romance probably not this one.

While traveling Brute runs into a vixen. The vixen runs away from the brute only to end up in the same place. He can't seem to get his vixen out of his mind. With the game to win her, they both end up tied up in the same net. Love wins in the end.

Excellent start to the serial written by Coreene Callhan. As with her other books, the characters possess a sense of humor and jump off the page. Looking forward to the future installments.

I am rage quitting this book. I’m going to vent here, but I don’t think any of this qualifies as a spoiler because it all happens in the first quarter of the book.

I’m fine with dark content that’s meant to be dark, including non-consensual sexual behavior as long as it get fully reckoned with.

What I’m not okay with is minimizing sexual assault and being expected to forget that it happened the way it was written. I’m even less okay with being expected to think it’s funny.

Early in the book, the MMC mistakes the FMC for a prostitute and starts groping her. When she corrects him and says she’s not interested, he just gripes her more. She protests. He doesn’t listen. So she uses her wits and begins bargaining with him to get him to relax and she knees him then runs away with his horse. This is all fine.

But when they later have a confrontation about it, he says that if she had been truly unwilling, he wouldn’t have forced her.

Except that’s exactly what he was doing up until she DEFENDED herself.

Then he spanks her. For defending herself against someone she very reasonably thought would rape her. And I think we were supposed to find that steamy.

Readers, it was not.

Then he finds out that she’s been horribly abused by her aunt and uncle. So he feels a little bad and asks if he hurt her. She says he did. He says “No I didn’t and let me strip you to prove it.” So she backpedals and says “No, of course I’m not hurt.”

But the thing is, at this point I think we’re expected to believe she wasn’t hurt even though she had just told her friend (who finds this whole thing hilarious, by the way) that she wouldn’t sit comfortably for a week. I think we were supposed to believe that she had just been exaggerating for sympathy/humor and none of this had any real effect on her at all. Just an abuse victim overreacting to the abuse she’s suffered and this fucking guy isn’t like the REAL abusers.

Then there’s some more justification on his end that he wasn’t trying to humiliate her, he just wanted to to point out how reckless she was. Except he hadn’t said one dang thing about being concerned for her until then. Certainly not during the initial confrontation leading up to the spanking. But there was a whole lot about how much he wanted to fuck her.

All of this is awful, but what makes it even more awful is the author expecting me to believe that being forcibly spanked by someone her sexually assaulted you only matters if there’s bruises.

By the time we get to the second bestie also finding this whole thing and the FMC contemplating going horseback riding with the MMC, I’d had enough. But I guess she really was lying about the spanking because she’s got no qualms about sitting in the saddle, so I guess I’m overreacting, too.

This was wretched.

First, to get through the slow, wet narration you need to speed it up to 1.7x. Men's voices... All the same.

Lots and LOTS of pages dedicated to the same sex scenes. Literally more than 2 chapters to the SAME sex scene.

To much internal dialogue and very little is actually said or done. 2 days in the story equated to chapters 1-26!!! And the internal dialogue. It's too much. Constant epithets for both the hero and heroin, neither have a brain between the two of them. And the same epithets throughout each page. Totally redundant and inconsistent in time. One moment it's a 20th century curse and the next it's maybe 18th. A lot of modern references. This is not Scottish, not really sure it was even English. I couldn't tell you what the heros eye or hair color was, but the heroines was drilled into me. "God's Teeth" it was annoying. That phrase, on every page. Some other out of place stuff...ass, happy dance, closed case, gee thanks, the brute, etc.

I had to look up the author several times because I'd think this was written by a young adult that's never read an actual historical romance before. There was no romance. Raunchy, unrealistic sex with no depth to the characters or story. It started off with a good story line, then died quickly. No, I wouldn't recommend this. I kept waiting for the story to begin. Absolutely horrible writing.

Warrior’s Revenge

This is the first book I’ve read from this author. It has a slow start. It took me several chapters to get “in” to it. My heart bled for Aurora. The abuse she suffers while living with her aunt and uncle is heartbreaking. Aurora was feisty, naive, and a believable Heroine. Brigham-swoon. At first, I had my doubts. But his thoughtfulness and the way he worshipped Aurora squashed all doubt about him. He helped Aurora grow from her trauma. He gave her the strength to face it again.
I needed more of Nate. Loved his character and the spats he had with Aurora. The stable master was another favorite character of mine.

I did find some parts a little wordy and repetitive. Characters were introduced but never heard of/from again. The ending felt rushed. The last 3 chapters had me on the edge of my seat and then it was over. No epilogue telling of children, if Nigel and Tobias did in fact survive, what happened to her aunt?

Warrior's Revenge is a stand-alone story. It is an excellent story with a strong herione and the man that fall for her.
Warrior's Revenge is the story of Lady Aurora de Marquise and Lord Brigham de Mornay. Aurora escapes her uncle's clutches to go to her best friend's wedding and to be free. Along the way she runs into a man that believes her to be easy (hint), but she finds out who he is. Lord Brigham can't get her out of his head.
As the story continues the passion between Lady Aurora and Lord Brigham grows. Lord Brigham promises to protect Aurora at any cost from her uncle.
To find out what happens go grab your copy of Warrior's Revenge.
This was my first audiobook. It was a good telling.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves historical romances.
I give Warrior's Revenge 5 out of 5 stars.

4-4.5 stars

This was a really good story. I liked Aurora and Brigham and was really drawn in to their story. It was interesting and engaging enough that I had trouble putting it down until I was done.

Aurora is a Lady but due to bad circumstances (both her parents dying) she's been taken in by her uncle who treats her like a slave. He and his wife find any reason to beat her and even make reasons so they have an excuse to do so. One night when it becomes clear that her death at her uncle's hands is close, Aurora decides she has no choice but try to escape. She escapes in the middle of the night with the help with her trusty maid, Nate.

Brigham is a Barron and a hard man with a vicious reputation. He's had to fight hard to be accepted because he was illegitimately born but he's made a good life for himself. He was married once but to a horrible woman that ended up dying and leaving him a widower. Brigham never intended to marry again, even to beget an heir. Things slowly change when he meets a feisty wench while he's on his way to a friend's wedding.

Aurora is travelling to her best friend's wedding, sure that she and her betrothed will help her stay out of the grasp of her evil uncle if she can just get there. She and Nate make their way together but at one point when Aurora is out alone to find food, she runs in to some trouble in the form of Brigham. He believes her a "light skirt" (aka whore) and wont believe her when she says she's not. With the constant threat of violence she's lived with over the past year, Aurora's first expectation is danger and when Brigham doesn't seem to be taking no for an answer she's afraid he'll force her and/or beat her. In order to save herself, she catches him unaware and manages to escape him by kneeing him in the groin and also steals his horse. Brigham is determined to find her and make her pay. Aurora is sorry for the hurt she caused Brigham but is too desperate to get to safety to let it stop her. Aurora heads to the safety of her best friend and gets to the keep in time for the wedding and is promised she'll be protected from her uncle. She's finally relaxing and checking out the stables when she meets up with Brigham again, who also is there for the wedding. Brigham is very surprised to see Aurora and is determined to make her pay for the harm she caused him. This starts a challenging time between them, as Brigham decides to try seducing Aurora and she tries not to be seduced. Unfortunately for Aurora, Brigham's touch tends to make her forget where she is or anything but wanting him to touch her more so she's at a disadvantage. She finds that avoiding Brigham works well but when he manages to track her down things go bad. They're caught in an intimate moment and Aurora is compromised and her reputation is threatened. Brigham ends up offering to marry her to solve things. Aurora doesn't want to marry Brigham but really has little choice in the matter, especially when her uncle comes to try to claim her and Brigham refuses to believe her uncle's lies or give her up.

Aurora isn't thrilled about her marriage, especially because she thinks that Brigham is only doing it because he has to and doesn't really want her. Little does she know that Brigham is feeling a lot more for her than he wishes and he is all for the marriage. They go in to the marriage with some mis-understandings between them but both are willing to work at things to make it work. Immediately after they're married, Aurora and Brigham head back to his keep. When she gets there, Aurora and Brigham spend their nights (and some points during the day) indulging in their physical relationship and she doesn't realize it at first but after about a month or so, she realizes that she's fallen for Brigham somewhere along the way. During the days, Aurora has a lot of work to do that keeps her occupied because the keep hasn't had a lady looking over things and lots of things need her attention. She's doing well but doesn't understand why a lot of the servants seem to have reservations about her. She ends up unexpectedly finding out about Brigham's previous wife and how horrible she was which leads her to understand some of the reasons that Brigham is the way he is. She admits her love for him, realizing he needs her to say it to him and she also realizes that he loves her in return but will probably never be able to tell her. She accepts this and is happy with her life and with Brigham. Things are going very well for them but danger does show when they're least expecting it and Aurora is kidnapped. Brigham and his men rush to find her, hoping to save her before she's killed. There's some stressful times but things turn out well in the end and Brigham is able to save Aurora before she's too hurt. Aurora and Brigham have some tender moments while he finally admits his feelings to her and they get their HEA back on track.

This was such a good story. I really liked Aurora and Brigham. They both had some moments where I was wondering what the hell they were thinking but overall they did pretty well and didn't have me wanting to smack them through my Kindle. I liked the historical aspect of the story, it didn't have a lot of historical details so I didn't really have to wonder if the story background was historically accurate or not. Overall, I really liked the story and I kind of wish this wasn't a stand alone, if it was part of a series I'd be reading the 2nd book in the series next. I'd recommend this story. Thumbs up! :D

* note - I listened to the audio version of this book. The narrator did a very good job on the narration. I liked her accent and thought it worked well for this story.

I feel like a good chunk of this book wasn't needed and things between Aurora and Brigham were annoyingly repetitious. I liked the beginning though. Aurora was being abused by her evil uncle so she runs to her best friend. She meets the big scary warlord and sparks fly. She's compromised they get married, uncle doesn't give up, scary warlord happens and then mega happy ending.

Not bad really, just boring. I also found it really irritating that Aurora literally forgot about everything whenever she saw Brigham...or a horse. It made me think her uncle might have been right and she wasn't all there upstairs.

I decided that this book deserves 4 1/2 stars so I rounded off to 5. I loved these two. I loved the period. I experienced so much reading this. I cried for all the abuse Rory suffered at the hands of her aunt and uncle. I hurt for Brigham for his loss and guilt. My heart raced with the battle scenes but mostly I laughed. I snickered. I rolled my eyes at the antics of Nate and thoroughly enjoyed their bed sport. Absolutely engaging, subtly funny and with so much heart. I hope I get to see these two again!

The author may have had a good story, but she/they need to learn to write better. The writing is drowning in cliches and adjectives which are irritating and uncalled for. The character's motives and reasoning are sound, but when working up the scenes the protagonist makes choices which are ludicrous given the situations.

This book did not work for me. But I gave it two stars as the effort was put in by the author, and some teeny bopper might enjoy the story, although the sex scenes are beyond YA in my opinion.

This was a free download which has been in my TBR pile for over 4 years so it was long overdue for reading or rejecting. Well I managed chapter one and that was hard enough. The author uses a weird combo of modern language with the odd “Olde English” word thrown in presumably to give it that “authentic medieval” vibe. If that wasn’t bad enough it is also seriously clichéd and I do not intend to waste another minute on the book or its review. Dreadful.

Good read

Strong complex characters and a solid plot with good fast paced writing. Since this is from several years ago I have to assume there are. It of h Dr. Looks coming in this series. That's unfortunate, as there are certainly support characters who would be strong as main char a Ted's.

I ended up taking my time reading this book, as I did not enjoy this in the end, that I end up putting this down for quite some time.

The beginning of the book started out OK, but as the story progressed, I liked it less and less.

And like in almost every other story in this genre, it always ends more or less the same.

This is a great book! So descriptive, I could hear the horse’s harnesses jangling, the leaves rustling, birds twittering. I could feel the hero’s angst and the heroine’s anxiety and love. Really, I loved this. I’m going to go see if there’s more of this series or kind. Recommend if you like knights and their ladies who hold their own w determination!

Really Enjoyed this Book

Every woman needs a Brigham. Loved him. I thought he made the perfect hero, bold, strong, passionate and handsome to boot. I liked Rory but I liked him best. The only complaint I have is I would love to read Quinlyn’s and Eamon story first, if one exists I can’t find it. I highly recommend this story.
