This book just seemed so unrealistic. I’ve been in this type of mommas boy relationship and they don’t change in 30 days. Lol it was a cute concept though. This was a stuff your kindle free read that was quick to get through.

Came across this while browsing Amazon's "Free" Kindle e-books, the blurb resonated with me so I started reading this and to my surprise before I knew it I had read the entire thing in one sitting! So many feelings here.

So, Shannan has finally had it, she's decided to leave her husband, seven children, and a successful career before she loses it, embracing the 30 Days of Me process for reconnecting with her best self. Key to her ability to escape is her mother, who gives her some good advice.
“You were determined to have him, no matter what I observed. He wasn't like that in the beginning, but with the unnecessary input from that wench and those hooligans, he became selfish from the moment you walked down the aisle. Every time you let him chip away at anything you wanted, you became more a part of him and less of you. Evidently it kept going until there were no mo more of you to give. It's been painful to watch you sacrifice so much and receive so little; all because you believe that your entire life should be wrapped up in him, trying to prove something you didn't need to prove.”

Don't we just hate it when mom is right!?

The obvious thing happens. Now that the giver, the organizer and the one bearing the full brunt of all the chores and mental load in the family is gone, things are imploding as the helpless men realize just how much stuff mom was doing! Pretty soon her husband, Zach, is desperate to win her back. As he struggles to deal with his overbearing family and disrespectful children, he is forced to confront hard truths and family secrets that threaten to push Shannan further away. And this time, Shannan is determined to be heard.

“I'm not your wife. I am your maid, your cook, someone you sleep with when you feel like it. I've been doing all the giving, everyone else is doing all the taking, including your sorry brothers and Monique's trifling ass. I have nothing else to give.”

description

As readers, hope Zach will come to his senses, because well, I'm one of those that just needs for things to be good and right.

This was short, sweet and full of things that mothers and wives who bear most of the mental load can relate to. At the end of the day, one should care for oneself first, because we as women have a distressing tendency to give and give till we have nothing left of ourselves, and eventually everyone reaches a breaking point like Shannan did.

A new year's resolution for me would be to put myself first and be kind to myself, so I can better care for others.

Loved it!

Shannan, like most nurturing women, got lost in everyone else's needs and desires. And as family sometimes do, they took advantage of it.
When Shannan gets fed up, she chucks her whole life and sets out on a journey to rediscover herself.
With the advice and unconditional love of her, no holds barred, mother. Shannan not only rediscovers herself, but she has set boundaries for her husband, children, and in-laws if she decides to come back.
Sugar Ain't So Sweet is such a relatable story. I wish all women in Shannan's situation could get the chance to reset the way she did.

This is a lovely and therapeutic read. It's about a woman, Shannan, who has had it up to neck about the way her husband and his family treats her. She just decided to up and quit one day and left. Luckily, her husband finally saw the errors in his ways and determined to win her back and asked for a second chance. Will he get the second chance he desperately wants? Grab your copy and find out. Outstanding

I love the author and I love Shannan and Jackie. Self-care is so important. I also bought the book 30 days. This book made me think of the author first book. I read this in one evening. The characters were relatable and I must say at times funny. This is a great read.

Great read. I actually felt connected. This was my first short story and it was a page turner. It was also up lifting and something women actually go through. 30 days of finding yourself is great advice.

Pretty Good Story

This was a good quick read with a lot of character growth. There were some areas that I was a little confused about as the transitions were not as smooth, but overall the story & tone was felt. I highlighted a lot of "gems" as well. Give it a whirl!

Read it

This book was great! It was a quick and easy read. It moved fast but not to fast that it was a turn off. Surprisingly to me, it was relatable. I look forward to reading more from this author.
