When Monty and Simon emerged from Hell, they did so possessing the first of the five arcane runes—Mu.
Divided between the two of them, the rune is the only way to stand against and defeat a Keeper of the Arcana.
Keeper Gault has only one purpose the obliteration of Montague and Strong. After his second, Tellus, failed to capture the rune, Gault finds himself forced to take extreme measures. In order to increase his power and recover the elder rune, he must erase Monty and Simon from existence.
Now, Monty and Simon must find a way to harness and control the power of the first rune before it’s too late. Their only chance of defeating Gault is using the energy contained within the elder rune.
There’s only one small problem.
The rune possesses too much power for them. Any attempt to use it would destroy them both. To access the elder rune, they need the power of an Archmage.
To achieve this power, they need to cause a runic shift in Monty.

Archmage by Orlando A Sanchez just can’t be put down, so schedule some time once you start. You meet some of your favorite characters, learn so much more about Simon, Monty, and Peaches, and start to discover just what makes Simon special. There is a lot of action, some harrowing moments, and some appropriate references (e.g. the Spartans at Thermopylae). The world building is amazing and continues to develop and evolve, while the use and progression of various powers follows a logical course. This is a must read.
This one was so good! I don't want to give any spoilers, but I loved the bond between Simon and Peaches in this one. They are so cute together. Plus, I love the main characters. Yes, they are the heroes, but they would burn the world down for the ones they love.
A Riveting Adventure Filled with Magic: A Review of Archmage by Orlando Sanchez
Archmage by Orlando Sanchez is an excellent addition to the fantasy genre, capturing readers with its unique blend of humor, adventure, and a protagonist's journey to fight against the forces of evil. This book is a page-turner that will leave readers eagerly awaiting the next installment.
One of the standout features of Archmage is the author's ability to delve deeper into the characters, answering questions that may have arisen in previous books. Orlando Sanchez skillfully fills in the gaps, providing a more comprehensive understanding of the characters' motivations and backstories. This attention to detail not only adds depth to the narrative but also helps readers forge stronger connections with the characters.
The novel's humor is a refreshing aspect that sets it apart from many other fantasy books. Sanchez expertly weaves witty dialogue and clever banter throughout the story, providing moments of levity amidst the intense action. This humor not only adds entertainment value but also serves to humanize the characters, making them relatable and endearing.
The adventure in Archmage is nothing short of captivating. From the very beginning, readers are thrust into a world brimming with magic and danger. The protagonist's journey to uncover the truth behind evil masquerading as a good force is filled with unexpected twists and turns, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. Sanchez's ability to create a sense of urgency and suspense is commendable, making it almost impossible to put the book down.
One of the highlights of Archmage is the introduction of new magical elements. Sanchez expands the magical world he has created, introducing readers to unique spells, enchantments, and mystical creatures. This infusion of fresh ideas breathes new life into the story, ensuring that readers are constantly engaged and intrigued.
While Archmage is an enthralling read, it does have a few minor shortcomings. At times, the pacing feels slightly rushed, and certain plot developments could have been given more room to breathe. Additionally, some readers may find that the abundance of magical elements and intricate details can be overwhelming, requiring careful attention to fully grasp the intricacies of the world.
In conclusion, Archmage by Orlando Sanchez is a highly enjoyable fantasy novel that excels in character development, humor, and the thrill of an epic battle against evil. With its engaging plot, new magical elements, and the author's ability to inject humor into the narrative, this book is a must-read for fans of the genre. While it may have a few minor flaws, the overall experience is undeniably captivating. Readers will be left eagerly anticipating the next installment in this exciting series.
95% of this book is build up to the anticlimactic end which was kinda nice but not worth it in the end. You start stuff and never take it anywhere. This series was cute only because of the Hellbound. Honestly if 60%or more of the story was left out ie the senseless chatter there could have been actual story content. The need to rush was in my opinion counterproductive to the whole idea. Every time they get ready to get any kind of training it always goes south. So many aspects ignored or delayed also the time table of events was a Failure because things should have happened sooner than they did. Also when you have say the first 11 chapters of the book being 97% pure conversation its just cappy written in my opinion. The lack of actual action is disappointing, it's focus is on more talking than actual doing. From the beginning of combat most of it is the baddie doing the villain talk followed by their end followed by the good guys needing medical treatment, usually simon being k.o'ed .. The actual combat sequence lasts about maybe 2% of the books focus or less.
I believe these books could have been amazing if the focus, time line and the focus were shifted.
Tristan and Simon now have the first Elder rune between them, but have not the first clue how to use it and are being targeted by several groups that believe they stole it and are now dark mages. Dex says that many of the good guys can't help them on their journey to increasing their power level but he knows of someone who can and sends them to an archmage to do just that. This guy, Julien, is arrogant and believes he can handle anything they throw at him but he soon learns otherwise and it takes Simon making a deal with a Death goddess to get them out of the mess Julien's arrogance got them into! But, with his help, they do increase their power signature and learn to use the Elder rune so that they are somewhat prepared when they are attacked by the first wave, the Sword of the Tribunal. In activating this new power, however, Simon has a new twist in his life. Ebonsoul starts speaking to him and tries to break his bond with Peaches! What will happen next? The next battles will be doozies for sure!
Monty and Simon know that they have to have more power if they are to defeat Keeper Gault and his evil plans. Their one hope to achieve this is for Monty to survive an escalated shift to a higher level of power. To do this, they must train with the one Archmage who dares to defy the High Tribunal and help them. But his help is dangerous in and of itself, as this Archmage is not on good terms with Monty and Strong. Can our intrepid trio survive this training? Can Simon live with the terrible price of losing someone he loves? If you're an urban fantasy fan, grab this book, strap in and hold on tight as our heroes navigate tricky training, large scale attacks, a devious goddess, a sentient weapon, and huge emotional shifts that would bring most people to their knees, begging for relief. Better yet, start with the first book of this series, Tombyards and Butterflies, and follow these exciting characters through a series of fantastic adventures that will keep you enthralled. Bonus that the books are all on Kindle Unlimited.
I enjoyed this book more than the previous one (although Lost Runes was a good read, this was better). The pacing was great and the plot satisfying. The info dumps were shorter and capped with action, I think.
One quibble- Cece got lost somewhere within, it was good to catch up with her a bit. Introducing Peanut as a new character could help us see more Cece, but mostly I hope it leads us to more about Monty's younger years and training.
Peaches got to shine, yay! We won't talk about the credit card thing, OK? I mean let's just not go there. Honestly, I plan to block it out of long term memory.
Good tale, well told, and beloved characters progressing and growing.
Having attained the first of the Elder Runes, using shared possession to mitigate the lethality, Simon and Monty set themselves up as the obstacle to be squashed if Gault is to achieve his desire. But possession does not equate to victory. To wield that which has been attained, thereby having a chance facing the Keeper, they need power. And in typical M&S fashion, they must do so the hard way, as if the eighties called to rescind any and all rights to a training montage. Dodging Verity, Arcanists loyal to the Keeper, and the Sword of the Tribunal just for the right to attempt training with an unfriendly mage they've encountered before, the odds are stacked against them from the start. Fun, twisted, thoughtful, and expletive inducing (maybe that's just me), this trip was a joy ride.
Often when an author gets to twenty books in a series, the storyline begins to be stale, flat. But not Orlando A. Sanchez. He has managed to not only continue the story Arc, but keep it fresh. Monty and Simon, along with Peaches are facing a battle with an Archmage who's much more powerful then they are. They have already found the first of five lost elder rune, now they need to learn how to use it without turning Dark. Uncle Dex sends them to Archmage Julien, who will attempt to teach Simon how to use the magic. Even though Simon insists he has no magic. A real page turner, and the final 'scene' is so emotionally charged, that my heart was racing until the very end of the book. I highly recommend you read this latest book in the series, you will not be disappointed.
I loved how this book started with Simon just sitting at Dex's school enjoying the peace and quiet with the sun shining on him and his conversation with Peanut. Monty and Simon are in the thick of trying to figure out how to use the Elder Runs they share. They have to come up with a plan to defeat what the High Tribunal has sent after them. Can Simon keep Ebonsoul quiet? Can he and Monty figure out how to work together? You'll find the answers in this book. I highly recommend this book, this series and everything written by Orlando Sanchez.
I can't wait for the conclusion of this mini arc. It will be epic!! I'm putting in my vote for another Brew & Chew short story. I agree that Peanut would fit in perfectly with that crew.
After acquiring the Elder rune, now Monty and Simon must find a way to control it. Verity and the High Council are still after them along with Gault who wants to eliminate them. Time is of the essence leaving them little time to figure out what they need to know. These lessons will come with some important revelations. Simon will have to realize some truths that he hasn't looked too closely at before. You will be riveted to the pages wanting to find out what happens next to our mighty trio. Humor, family bonds, future growth, and decisions. I'm loving the world-building and characters in this series.
Heart and Literally wanna fight along with Simon and Monty
Monty and Simon literally had me like wanting to be there to help them mess people up. That's when I realize I feel like these stories are an important part of reading life. Reading these books have become really really important to me before this book came out I actually reread all 19 book Of the series. And they are just as good as before when I 1st read them. I really love and appreciate Orlando a Sanchez writing. But it sucks because I read a lot and reading other books will make you mad. I am really really anticipating Entropy.
So, I have just finished book 20 (in what may be a 40 book series?) and I loved it. The pace was slower and I felt able to consume it slower...like sipping a fine whiskey.
Due to always impending Chaos (IYKYK) there is never time for proper training, always on the job learning the hard way. This book delves deeper into that and the characters are evolving. It's an enjoyable ride.
If you are new to M&S, start at the beginning. If you aren't, why haven't you read this one yet?
Marty, Peaches and Simon continue their search to figure out how to use the newly acquired rune. Going for training on how to control it and manage it leads to more than they anticipated. Much more and way more than they had ever conceived. This book shows Orlando’s true story telling genius. It answers questions poses questions and moves the trio to being more bonded and more deadly. I can’t wait now until the next book!
In this book, Simon finally starts to understand the world of magic and where he fits in the grand scheme of things. There is plenty of action and the requisite snarkasm, but this is by far the most serious book in the series. In order to push past your limits, you must first find out what those limits are. Monty and Strong find theirs. My favorite in the series to date. Thanks Orlando
I love these books and this series. This book specifically feels like a lull or a breather between arcs. However there is something here we don’t get in most entries. We see Simon being a badass. Not a jokey half clown. It’s is remarkably satisfying to just see him have enough and cut loose. I appreciate this for a character that sometimes comes off as unserious or soft.
Montague and Strong are at it again. They are always finding themselves the focus of strong foes and they need a way to increase their powers. And along the way they obliterate a lot of landmarks. This time, they didn't destroy as many landmarks as they usually do, but the ground is laid for more changes in the future. And, maybe, just maybe, Strong will be accepting a few things about himself and growing up a bit too. (But not too much because we do like him a lot like he is).
Monty and Simon have some things that don't strictly belong to them, and Keeper Gault wants one - the Elder Rune - back. With extreme prejudice. Uncle Dex arranges them to return to the Foundry, and an old Frenemy, for help. Can they learn what they need to defend against Gault minions, without blowing yet another NYC landmark off the map?
Each M&S and P book just gets better and better . The newer characters are great and we learn more and more about everyone’s back stories. The depth of the M&S universe gets deeper and stronger . Buy this book , in fact get the whole series and spin offs It’s well worth it Note to Author - it was paced perfectly
What can I say? The destructive duo really know how to attract powerful enemies, dragging poor innocent Peaches along for the ride. With a Keeper, and others hunting the boys Uncle Dex sends them to a specialist for some training. I'm glad to see the Morrigan finally make a substantial appearance. Now I just hope to see Michiko back in these pages
I can’t believe I have read all 20 plus everything else Mr. Sanchez has written. I enjoyed the last even more than those preceding. Mr. Sanchez brings an even deeper understanding of his main characters with each book, and always brings in new ones for us to wonder about. I experience true joy in reading this artful writing. Now to wait for the next installment!
If someone has asked this before, I am sorry for repeating. How did Cerbus get knocked up? Who got him pregnant? Is Peaches an only child? Can Peaches get pregnant? Is their a Peach flavored Meat? Why can't Peaches sit Monty down and have a heart to heart about the benefits of MEAT?
Strong, Monty and Peaches are at it again. Being part of razing a park and its occupants is only the first of the upcoming destruction. This book has immense changes in store for M&S and absolutely a must read. For those not familiar with series, start with book1 and catch up.
This one was a little slower pace but an excellent read. Simon and Monty have a little respite while visiting Dex. They are still being chased but this time it is someone who may end their existence. A great read. Plenty of action and a great story. Another must read.
I always feel after reading an M&S story like I have been on a very long high and scary rollercoaster. The highs the lows the heart in the mouth, it's a wonder that I am still breathing normally. Love this stories and the whole series. I always try to take my time to savour them but alas they are truly just too good.
This book was fantastic. I'm not sure if that's the right word to use but I loved it. It was all the typical things the stories usually are. Funny, sad, deep crazy. This book answered alot of questions while simultaneously ripping out your heart. This is probably one of the best books in the series.
Things are hotting up for Simon monty and peaches the bad guys are getting badder and more powerful so our heroes need to as well but all things come at a cost can they pay the price and still survive these books were really good sad the next is the last one not ready to say goodbye though hopefully there will be more in future 🤞❤️📚❤️
Simon is rapidly learning about the whims of being under the eyes of goddesses, Tristan just wishes his suits could get more than one wear out of them. Training can be a dangerous thing but can also earn respect from surprising quarters. Peaches just wants more meat. Everything you can expect from Montague and Strong in the battle to keep the balance.
