Death follows me wherever I go... I awaken in a graveyard, seriously wounded, with my memories gone. Its clear someone wants me dead, but who? Then he appears. The mysterious Victor saves my life with his own blood. Vampires are real and they’re not the only thing out there. As I get sucked further into the world of the supernatural, I desperately try to remember my life from before. Who tried to kill me? And is Victor friend or foe? Given the name Seraphina by Victor, I return to his home with him. The name means the burning one and it may be more apt than I thought because it turns out I’m not human. I’m something different, something...more. And some would kill to get their hands on me. Under Fire is the first book in the Heart Of A Dragon Series
(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
DNF I didn't like the love interest.
First time read the author's work?: Yes
Will you be reading more?: No
Would you recommend?: No
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
Requested copy because I enjoy supernatural and paranormal, throw in some romance or a mystery and that’s like icing - then I read Dragon!!! I enjoyed it, found quite a few grammar/ spelling edits. LOTS of run on sentences, but decent characters and the storyline kept me reading. I feel like nothing resolved and it should have been marketed as part one….but I appreciate the effort and would probably read the next one to see if she gets her memory back and who she is related to. V is the shadowy mystery man and they spent so much time on him being a vampire that I was questioning the dragon part….until finally - boom wings.
Exciting, action packed, filled with surprises, dangerous enemies and surprising new adventures and friends. Seraphina is attacked and left bleeding out in a cemetery, rescued by a vampire Victor Blake heals her and takes her home for protection. Seraphina has no memory of who she is or what happened to her. Danger and adventures surround her and there’s a serial killer murdering young woman with red hair, ripping their hearts out. 6 women have died is Seraphina next? She must learn how to protect herself and who she is. I love this story and can’t wait for next book.
Picked up this book for free on one of the Stuff Your Kindle Days
This story felt like a long prologue, and came to a very sudden and abrupt end. It was a bit jarring that we get a prologue when stuff didn't happen yet and then suddenly all her memories are gone, even tho the reader remembers stuff. It makes it very annoying to be waiting until the MC catches up again, which she doesn't in this story. Apart from that, it was fine tho I'm not going to be picking up the second book.
This novella was a good start to this series. The story has potential to be fantastic so I’m rounding up to 5 stars. I love anything supernatural and Seraphina’s memory loss isn’t one I’ve seen yet in a book yet. I’m intrigued to see how the author decides to move forward with the story. Definitely looking forward to book 2!
