Family of Misfits #2

Ali's Intuition

Rate this book
If the rough and tumble man at Ali's door is supposed to be his fate-ordained mate, then he has to wonder what in the Goddess' name Fate was thinking.

Ali has always dreamed of his spirit mate, someone classy, intelligent and romantic, but the man who faints in his doorway is anything but. Kalo is loud and pushy, with hair more suited to a caveman and manners to match—all wrapped up in one big package of you've got to be kidding me. Besides, Ali has responsibilities as mama bear to his den of shifters and that's where he needs to be.

For Kalo, being rejected by his spirit mate won't be life-threatening. But there's something about Ali that intrigues him and touches his soul. He's ready to offer his already-engaged heart with no strings attached, for a chance to change Ali's mind.

K-lee Klein grew up in the beautiful mountains of British Columbia and now lives only two hours away in Calgary, Alberta. Her life is blessed by three now-grown (but still spoiled) kids and an adorable grandson who calls her Gwaa Gwaa. She has a patient husband of over thirty years and spends her days being bossed around by a kitten named Poe, a senior feline called, Miss Chili, and a canine who thinks she's a princess, Chewie.

K-lee’s writing muse is terribly temperamental so to keep him close by and in-check, she had him inked on her left calf. Yet she still writes on his schedule and inspiration, and quite honestly, he can be a bit of a drama queen. K-lee writes mostly contemporary but has forayed into paranormal and urban fantasy, and her favorite tropes to write and read are hurt-comfort, friends to lovers, opposites attract, and relationships with children. Her biggest accomplishment as an author was overcoming all the hurdles to transition from publisher releases to her first self-published book.

Although K-lee considers herself to be an extroverted introvert and revels in her solitude, she very much enjoys traveling to conferences to meet up with friends old and new. She’s grateful for all the people in her life who accept her as she is and support her through the ups and downs as a mom, wife, friend, and joyfully obsessed writer.

What do you do when your fated mate is three hundred and sixty degrees different from what you thought he'd be? Does that mean Fate is wrong? Or are you? Seeing as how I loved the first installment in this slightly wacky series by K-lee Klein, I was really looking forward to jumping into Ali's story.

Ali was pretty shocked and, frankly, flabbergasted when Nicu's cousin Kalo shows up on his doorstep and, lo and behold, Kalo is Ali's spirit mate. Except that Kalo is not what Ali thought of when he dreamed of his mate. Kalo is big and coarse, with multiple piercings and tattoos. He has crazy, wild hair, dresses all in black, and is some type of unusual wolf shifter. So, in typical fashion for this family of misfits, Ali "accidentally" turns Kalo into a swine, twice. *snorts* I really love this crowd.

Wow. There's quite a turn of events that crops up and I can't talk about it because it's a huge spoiler. All I can say is that Kalo isn't who he appears to be, and there's a lot of family conflict that arises. Kalo is holding a pretty big secret that when it gets out, might just ruin his chance at a loving spirit mate connection with Ali. And, believe me when I say, Ali is not happy when everything is revealed. Of course, in my opinion, some of that is because Ali loves being Mama Bear in the family and taking care of everyone, so the appearance of his mate changes the dynamics and Ali isn't so sure he wants them to change. Oh my. Two stubborn, stubborn men, both wanting to get their own way. But not just stubbornness is involved here, there's also a healthy amount of fear. Fear of the unknown, and fear of letting go and accepting.

Ali turned out to be different from the man I thought he'd be based on what I'd seen of him during Lucius and Nicu's story. It took some serious talking to before Ali realized how selfish he was being about the whole mate thing with Kalo. Plus, I believe Ali has been taking the whole Mama Bear act a little too far, and, instead, behaves like an old mother hen which is sad for a guy who is almost thirty. Kalo is a good man, honorable and loyal, who wants to love his mate and care for him. Ali is too afraid to open up his heart and instead uses a lot of excuses to hold Kalo at bay. Kalo is very sweet and seems to have limitless amounts of patience and understanding, not just for Ali but for some family members, too.

I so enjoyed watching Ali and Kalo do their back and forth dance of love. It kept me on the edge of my seat and more than a few times, crossing my fingers and hoping. Even though I wasn't sure that Kalo was up to the challenge of Ali, him being such a snarky brat so often, by the end I knew the fates had chosen well, and that Ali would be kept on his toes and constantly challenged. Now I'm just eagerly anticipating the next installment and dying to know whom it will feature.

“Gift is intuition and empathy. Witch boy should listen.”

This is book 2 of a great series by K-Lee Klein. We meet Ali, or Mama as he’s known by some of his ‘Misfits’, in the first book, Lucius’ Bite. Book two, Ali’s Intuition is all about him and his Spirit Mate, Kalo.

What a tangled web we find when this book begins. Ali has dreamed of his Spirit Mate, the one he is destined to be with. As a white witch born of two dark witches, he’s always given of himself. He seeks harmony and peace for him and his family. When the loud, brash, and boorish Kalo shows up, Ali is, shall we say, less than impressed. He doesn’t feel the tingle, the urge to hold the man in his head or his heart. In fact, he kind of has a magical oopsie that has everyone in the household wondering what the hell has gone wrong.

The man that Ali has dreamed of, the one who will be his forever mate, could not possibly be this man. Ali refuses to accept it, and is determined to move on. Fate, that fickle little mistress, has some surprises in store for Witch Boy, though.

I know this isn’t the same as my normal reviews and I promise there is a reason for it. Some things happen in this story that would be spoilers if I talked about them and I wouldn’t do that since the author has worked so hard to craft this wonderful storyline. Grab this book (after reading the first, of course) and immerse yourself in a world of supernatural love.

Ali, a white which, “Mama Bear” and caretaker of his mismatched family is not impressed at all as his spirit mate shows up at his door. Why? Because in his imagination his fated mate would be intelligent and classy not some rocker guy who is loud, pushy and without manners.

I laughed so many times about Ali´s antics, he is a great person and powerful as hell. Kalo on the other site…well there is a nice twist regarding him and I didn´t see that coming. Thumps up, it was quite interesting. I could see those two as a couple, both have a huge heart and care for other people deeply.

I liked that we got to know both characters, their past and how that influences their present. We also got to see Lucius and Nicu again, how their relationship developed and I got a few questions answered which I still had after reading book one. Not to forget the set of secondary characters, namely Ali´s mismatched family, Nicu´s grandma and also a few new ones made this story an enjoyable read for me.

This story, for me at least, was better than the first one. It has more depth in it with more background about the main characters. I loved that Ali and Kalo spent time together and got to know each other as well as spent some time apart where you got to see their problems they had with their life’s. What I didn´t like and yes it did dampen the story for me was the part when Ali rejected his mate and how they get together again. Here I felt left out, it was rushed and since I´m a sucker for angst I would have liked it more to see how their time apart affected Ali and Kalo. We got it told in form of a summery as they met again but that´s not the same as going with them through that time of their life.

Nonetheless I liked this story. The angle the author took on the spirited mate part was in parts different than we had in the first book, which fits the series perfectly. A bunch of mismatched, all with difficult pasts finding their fated mates and each with a unique mating process makes this series quite interesting for me. So I´m looking forward what this author has in store for the others of that family.

A copy of the ebook was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Ali in book one and could not wait to get his story. What I got was not what I was not what I was expecting. Ali knows all about spirit mates and knows that even if he meets his it won't change a thing. He doesn't want one nor does he need one. It would just complicate his life and his misfits lives. But when his mate finds him, Ali is nothing short of disgusted by him. This was NOT the man he had dreams about. So Ali writes him off.

I loved Ali in book one but so much of his book I wanted to beat him and say, snap out of it just found your mate. Why are you being difficult? Grrr, but as mamma he is doing what he thinks is best for his family. I loved when we first met Kalo and his first meeting with Ali. Then, well there is the big "OH CRAP" moment and I was like I so did not see that coming. And I loved it, K-lee shocked me yet again in one of her books. And once again the misfits are great and we get to see a little more of Nicu and Lucius which I really enjoyed. And Nicu's grandmother is hilarious.

So yea it took Ali a while to come around and pull his head out of the sand and when he does well lets just say he totally redeemed himself. It was just the right amount of push and pull and I appreciated that in this book. And it left me wanting more, another misfits story!!!! So want some really awesome shifters and a witch with some gypsies thrown in. Get this one, but if you have yet to read book one, go get that one first then get this one. They are worth it.

After reading Lucius Bite, I had already fallen in love with many of the odd yet wonderful characters so was looking forward to reading more in this Second book!

Ali's Intuition, continued where the first book left us which made me very happy, all the same character's with their quirkiness were included with a couple of extra thrown in! I had really enjoyed Ali's character in the first book so was thrilled this book was about him meeting his Fated Mate. Ali is the mother figure in a house full of troubled young men and takes his responsibility very seriously! He has such a air about him that I imagine him as perfection in looks, dress and mind. When he finally meets his mate, a goth looking rock god it's hardly surprising that he totally rejects him. There is so many twists and turns to this story that my emotions were on high alert and my mind running wild!
K-lee Klein's imagination is amazing, she has the ability to write any genre and make it a 5 star read! I have enjoyed every book I've read of hers so far and have been hooked to each one!

I only hope this series has many more books to come as I can not wait to find out what happens to the rest of this unconventional family!

Highly Recommended!!!

This is the second Book in the Misfit Series and we have learned Ali has been the backbone of the house in the back roads of Canada. Ali has put “his boys” before his own wants, helping mentor three young men Lucius, Manny and Kristof.

Ali born a white witch from two black witches has actually hidden himself away waiting for his “Prince Charming” or in his case his Fated or Spirit Mate. He has seen Lucius and Nicu have problems with this but never expected his to be when Kalo comes into his life. Ali has thought his mate would be more like him, quiet, refined, tasteful . But the Fates have other ideas. Maybe Ali has to ‘see himself’ and try not to give his life up for his boys but let them grow and have his own life

K-Lee Klein has written a fun wacky story about love and life and we readers are on the road for her instincts on love, relationships and life. Ali is a tough nut, as his life issues are not quite at the surface right away, but our author peels them layer by layer (and it doesn’t hurt there is a purple eyed, six ft tall, beautiful Volf waiting as the prize.

K-lee will not give away what your beautiful mind thought up….Just keep it up.

I really enjoyed this book. It was given to me by a good friend. The story was great. I couldn't put it down. Now I will have to get the first one and the rest. So far I have read two of K-Lee's books and both were very hard to put down. I'm sure I will read many more!
