Much better than my expectations!

This book had been on my shelf for what seemed like forever. I kept postponing reading it considering I had an awful experience with this author’s other novel, Tempting the Billionaire (the first installment in Love in the Balance series). However, I’m glad I decided to give this one a try because it turned out to be a great success, I can tell. Honestly, I was surprisingly pleased with almost everything in this book.

In short, admittedly, there was nothing particularly new here. The plot itself was somewhat simple, but in some ways, I found it very lovely and touching. The story moved along at a nice pace—neither too slow nor too fast. Two main characters were likable and well-developed. Besides, the hero—Landon, was such a swoon-worthy guy. He alone makes anything else in this book worth the read!

My only complaint is Kimber’s stubbornness. Instead of trusting her own heart, she chose to push Landon away. Bad move! Fortunately, it didn’t take long for her to come to her senses.

By the way, this was overall a pleasant read. I really did enjoy it. Despite being the third installment of the series, this one can be read as a standalone.

“I remember you.”
Let me first start by saying Landon is definitely my favorite Downey brother, and this is my favorite book in the series. This is just amazing, it just blows you away and I can't recommend it enough. It's even kind of hard to find the words for this review as nothing seems to be enough for what I want to say.

“Dorothy and the Tin Man,”
“You’re not that heartless,” she said. “And I’m not that innocent.”

Landon is emotionally closed-off and a planner who follows reason. Kimber wears her heart on her sleeve and follows her emotions. He doesn't want a relationship because he's never truly had one, and because of something in his past. She doesn't either, but simply because she gets too attached, too quickly, and because there's something in her past as well.

"Lord in heaven. She looks like a 1940s wet dream."
Yes, there's instant attraction. In fact, Kimber's attraction for Landon has been there since she was a teenager, but now he's sooo returning it. And what starts as an "arrangement", or a list, soon turns into something that neither of them was expecting to find. In the meantime, yes, you'll find A LOT of steamy scenes in this book, as you'd imagine from one of Jessica's books.

"She was scrappy. He was refined. She was mac-and-cheese-from-a-box. He was Tuna Tartare."
It's lovely to see how their story progresses. How they realize it doesn't matter how you see yourself or where you come from, if you're rich or not doing so well, if you wear designer suits or mended vintage clothes. Life (and love) is so much more than that.

"All because… because she was trying to be someone she wasn’t. Because she’d allowed her past to predict her future."
It's kind of hard to let go of your past and to believe whatever happened before won't happen again - because lightning sometimes does strike twice. But once they were able to move past it, to understand what was going on between them, this was all kinds of sweet. And loving. And emotional. And heartbreaking. And yes, happy, finally happy.

"He traced the line of her delicate neck to the arms that had once held on to him like he was her port in a storm."
Landon saves Kimber as much as she saves him back. He is her port in a storm, any storm, and he would do anything for her. And she shows him he's not the Tin Man, that his heart is in the right place and that he is deserving of his own port in a storm.
And I do believe they can weather out whatever is thrown their way.

The Millionaire Affair is the third book in the Love in the Balance series and it focuses on Landon Downey and Kimberly Reynolds.

Landon is in dire need of a nanny for his nephew. When her sister suggested he hire her friend Kimberly who he met years ago as a redheaded girl with braces, he agrees. But what he wasn't expecting was to feel a strong attraction for the teenager turned sultry vixen. So when she suggested they have a no-strings attached relationship, who is he to refuse?

This book was just wow. It has its laugh out loud moments, passionate encounters and scenes that are so gut-wrenching.

Landon was funny and sexy at the same time. When he was feeling confused with his emotions with having a no-strings attached relationship with Kimberly he just seemed so adorable. Kimberly always falls in love fast and she wanted to change that. So when he felt an intense attraction for Landon, she decided to take it like a business-like manner. No emotions and all fun was what she was hoping to achieve, but when her emotions started to get the best of her she decides to cut their "relationship" short. Lack of Communication was one of the main causes as to why they had a hard time with their relationship at first and if they just talked about their problems and not ignore them, they wouldn't have that much problems.

Though no-strings attached relationships are kind of cliché, it wasn't a problem in this book.

The Millionaire Affair is a must read book for readers who love hot millionaires and no-strings attached relationships.

I seriously love Jessica Lemmon’s writing. This is my second book by the author and again, she pulled me into the story.

I really enjoyed Landon & Kimber’s story. I love the history between them and how she had a crush on him going back to their childhood. However, no matter how great Landon was (and he was beyond great), he just doesn’t live up to Evan. He stole my heart in Bringing Home the Bad Boy and there’s no topping him.

I loved seeing Evan and Lyon in this book. It was nice to see them prior to their book.

One of the things I loved most was that over the course of the book, you get to see “The Tin Man” unrust and start feeling again. I love the way Landon opened up around Kimber. Some of my favorite parts were when Kimber was babysitting for Lyon. Lyon was full of energy and kept Kimber and Landon on their toes.

Kimber and Landon had great chemistry. I just wish they had listened to themselves and each other instead of other people. Well…I wish Kimber hadn’t listened to other people. I really disliked her mom. Yeah, she was excited about being a grandmother but she was so blinded and bitter by events in her past that she gave Kimber bad advice. She thought about herself and not her daughter and what she would want. This is the second book with Gloria in it and the second time she’s given crappy advice to someone about a Downey brother. I can honestly say that I really dislike her. Based on what happened in Bringing Home the Bad Boy, I’m assuming she’s going to get a book and while I’m looking forward to it because of who the guy is and because it’s going to be by Jessica Lemmon, it’s going to take a lot of work to make me care about Gloria’s HEA.

On to the next Jessica Lemmon book!

Landon is in a fix--he's a perfectionist business owner AND he's a doting uncle. But, he's not a care giver. Scheduled to watch his nephew while his widower brother is having a retreat is more of a challenge than Landon can meet. Plus, he's got a HUGE contract int he bablance at his ad agency and needs to micromanage his office. So he calls in the Big Guns:  his sister. Unfortunately, she just took off the previous week to watch Lyon and her boss (Landon!) is a slavedriver...

She does, however, recommend her childhood friend Kimber to work as a nanny.

See, Kimber lives in Chicago--not far from Landon's Magnificent Mile penthouse condo. Kimber owns a boutique selling upscale resale clothes and her own designs. While she's making money, she hasn't earned enough to buy out her business partner-slash-ex-boyfriend. With the money Landon's offering she could get her business going exactly right. If only she doesn't fall into a puddle of admiration when she crosses the threshold--Landon's always caught Kimber's eye...and heart...and quivery girly-bits.

Living in close quarters with the grown woman Landon only remembered as his sister's frizzy-haired-brace-faced friend proves to be a difficult proposition. Kimber is stunning, and friendly, and engaging. She dotes on Lyon as if he were her own son, and Landon is considering some very wanton thoughts when she's in the room. Or, on the phone. Or, anywhere.

In fact, they fairly steam around each other. Kimber cannot believe the wealthy man who usually dates willowy models could be interested in her bootylicious self, but then, she's NOT going to get serious.

That's always Kimber's downfall--taking the relationship to Seriousville when her beaux are more interested in Good Time Town. Instead, she and Landon strike a tantalizing bargain--they each write a list of TEN EROTIC EXPERIENCES and vow that once they check off their Sex Bucket List, they will walk away without a string. Funny thing, strings seem to catch even the most tenacious.

Kimber and Landon are really a cute couple. They have some D-Lish smexytimes unencumbered by the risk of their hearts. They share affection, and lust, but soon they share a whole lot more. Kimber is torn--she wants more with Landon, but doesn't want him controlling her life. Landon wants into Kimber's world--in whatever capacity Kimber will have him--but his desire to help sometimes comes off as HOLY FREAKING COW TOO MUCH. Still, I adore main characters who take time to figure things out, as Landon and Kimber do.

Oh, and it looks like Landon's revised list--featuring Number 11--is just the start of their very naughty future. I received an ARC to review via NetGalley.

This is the first book that I have read By Jessica Lemmon and I loved it.

Landon: Millionaire ad executive is babysitting, Lyon, his 6-year-old nephew for a week and can’t handle him and work both, so his sister comes up with a live-in nanny to take care of Lyon – Kimber. Landon remembers her as 16-year-old, read head with a mouth full of braces and he is not prepared for the grown up Kimber that Evan warns him about.

Kimber: Has had a crush on Landon for as long as she can remember, but she also tends to jump head first into relationships and saddles herself with boyfriends that don’t work out. When presented with a chance for a no strings, week long affair with Landon, she wants to prove that she can have a no-strings affair and then leave Landon behind.

Neither Landon nor Kimber want a relationship, but neither was prepared for what they felt for each other. They begin checking off the items on their list together and they both find that they don’t want it to end. Landon knows that he will never meet anyone like Kimber again and is afraid of what he is feeling for her and the time that spent together was unbelievable until an accident changed everything.

When Kimber faces Landon with the truth about her condition, they come up with an arrangement that they both thought was for the best and what they thought each other one wanted, but they both realized that they loved each other and wanted to be together as a family.

I would definitely want to read the other books in this series by this author.

So like I really loved this book.

When Landon agrees to watch his nephew Lyon for his younger brother he certainly doesn't expect the kid to have so much energy, much less destroy his house and turn his life upside down. He can't think, he can't work. He's going crazy. So when his sister Angel suggests that an old friend of hers' Kimber becomes his live-in nanny for the week he readily agrees.

Let's just say Kimber Reynolds is all grown up. Gone are the braces, hello rambunctious redhead!

Kimber Reynolds has a plan, accept this live-in nanny position and get enough money to buy out her ex boyfriend from the boutique they co-own together. There's just one tiny problem, her new boss Landon also happens to be the same guy she's had a crush on since she was sixteen.

The connection is instant the moment they meet, but the past has a funny way of finding its way into their life. The question is will it play out the same way it did back then, or not,

-----

Literally loved this book! Loved the characters especially Evan and Lyon, seriously the cutest little boy I've ever read about! His love for Superman was awesome!

Not just that but the main characters themselves were great! They didn't annoy me, and I really felt their connection and attraction for one another. And the who second half come on too cute!

Definitely a nice easy read, the book definitely has substance to it! Took me more than a day to read which is pretty impressive!

A Must Read!

Landon Downey had more money than time but right now with his nephew running around he would give a lot of money to someone to help him out. As it turns out Kimber was just the person to take on the job as money was something she needed, plus a little one-on-one with the man of her dreams Landon.

Kimber grew up hanging around Landon’s family and went from having a teenage crush to full blown passion for all things Landon. He came off as distant and emotionally unavailable but Kimber knew better and even though she tried to not let her feelings for him mess up their relationship it was really hard to not want to touch that handsome face and just hold his hand and tell him that love was out there for him. During the time Kimber is watching his nephew Landon starts to understand that Kimber is everything he desires in a woman and wonders if she might be up for some short term association. While Kimber says yes in her heart she knows that in the end this is only going to break her heart.

When an unexpected idea becomes a reality it is time for Kimber and Landon to decide can they be together forever or was this a blip on the romantic radar. When you have to realize that money can buy a lot of thing but love is not one of them, you start to prioritize what you value in life and how much you are willing to give up to keep it.

Jessica Lemmon writes about the soul searching love we all long for and the reality of what it takes it obtain it.

I really liked this book a lot. This is the third book in the “Love in the Balance” series. Don’t worry about it being part of a series, though. I hadn’t read any of the other books and didn’t feel I had missed anything at all. I liked this book enough, however, that I would like to go back and read the first two stories (actually three if you count the novella prequel that comes before book 2). This book is a complete story and has an HEA.

Like most romance stories there is conflict and angst for our H/Landon and h/Kimber; they don’t get to the HEA easily – but that’s part of what makes for an interesting story. This isn’t exactly a friends-to lovers-story (one of my favorite tropes) but Kimber is friends with Landon’s sister, Angel, and spent time with their family when she was 16.

I don’t believe in restating the synopsis of the book provided so the only other things I will say is that the writing and story kept me interested and reading quickly because I couldn’t wait to get to the HEA. There were also interesting secondary characters (a few who were the subjects of the first two books in the series) and I look forward to reading additional books in this series and from Ms. Lemmon.

edited to add: I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Landon's story is my favorite of the Love in the Balance series. (His brother Evan's story wins the award for my favorite of both this series/its spinoff)

Landon and Kimber are complete opposites and it's why I love their coming together so much. They're excellent compliments to each other's personalities. They've both allowed elements of their pasts to control the way they look at relationships and somehow both decide they're going to try something different with each other. Instead Kimber's resolve to have a fling backfires and the attraction she felt for Landon as a teenager comes back in full force.

Landon on the other hand is completely blindsided by the feelings Kimber raises in him. His nickname of "Tin Man" has made him believe he's incapable of feeling, but man, when he does feel - watch out. The man has a lot to give.

Really enjoyed their story.

YAY finally a new Love in the Balance book to read and what an amazing one it is!! Kimber is the perfect woman to get Landon Downey out of his stoic controlled ways. I loved this story! With it's humor, great pace, and all the great characters it is one that will go right along side the first two in the series on my re-read shelf! I definitely recommend this to everyone.

I randomly found this book at the Newport Beach Library and picked it up. I loved the cover and the blurb sounded promising. Unfortunately, the book didn't live up to my expectations. Many of the sex scenes were fade-to-black, and even though I liked the characters, getting through the book was slightly a bit of a chore. I kept going because it wasn't bad enough to DNF. There was nothing wrong with it, to be fair...

It was a little frustrating how Kimber and Landon kept denying themselves happiness by trying to have a no-strings relationship, but that was part of the conflict/plot.

It was hard to think of Kimber as a redhead. I think of a sexy black-haired woman as a Kimber. Or Kimberly. (Like Kim Kardashian)

This book was more "I have crushed on you for years" than "loved for you for years", but I don't have that tag (yet). OK, now I do... ("childhood crush")

Landon has agreed to keep his nephew for a week while his brother attends an immersion workshop; the problem is he is workaholic and a bachelor. He also has a very important project that must be finished this week for an important client. His sister Angel suggests that he hire a nanny and she has just the person in mind for her brother. Landon feels resistant to the idea of someone that he doesn’t know taking care of his nephew and staying in his home. Angel tells him she has the perfect person in mind, someone that they all know her friend Kimber Reynolds.

“I don’t know, Ang. Has Kimber…done this sort of thing before?” Cared for the nephew of a bachelor workaholic millionaire whose fiancée dumped him for a D-list actor?

Kimber is not at all sure that she can help her best friend with the babysitting job. She is busy building her business and getting rid of her ex-boyfriend/business partner. Kimber needs the extra funds to help buy out her partner and keep her business running. So even though she has no experience with children she agrees to take the job. Angel assures her that she can do this and Lyon is six, not a baby. Kimber’s other problem with the job is Landon and the crush she had always had on him.

True, Kimber may not need the money, but she sure could use it. To fund Operation “Get My Ex-Boyfriend and Co-owner of My Store Out of My Life For Good.” Removing Mick’s name from the lease was a huge motivator.

Landon calls and discusses the job with Kimber. She agrees to start the next day and hangs up on him! Kimber gets busy organizing her business and scheduling work times for her staff. Landon lets his brother know about Kimber and how she will be caring for Lyon during the week. Evan also lets him know that Kimber is no longer the little tenth grade girls he remembers but a HOT woman that will knock his socks off.

Landon smoothed his tie and opened the door to greet-
He froze, blinking at the redhead gracing his doorway, the blood rushing from his head and straight to his groin. Hot. It was the only coherent word pounding in his skull.

Landon cannot believe the woman that Kimber has become. Looking at her he cannot help but compare her to his ex-girlfriend and he realizes that she is nothing like Lissa. Kimber is a unique and individual feminine beauty that draws him in. He can’t stop the attraction that he feels every time she is near and it doesn’t help that she is interested in what he does at work. Kimber thinks that Landon doesn’t like her and his hurt by his gruffness towards her. When Angel figures out that it was Landon that Kimber had the crush on she calls and tells him to be nice to her and that opens the door that he has tried to keep closed.

Every part of her, from her pink mouth to her darkening pupils, to the feather-light touch on his arm, said Kiss me. And, God how he wanted to.

When Landon and Kimber can stop themselves from acting on their attraction to each other they give in and agree to compile a sex list of things they want to do with each other. When the list is finished they can end their relationship without any hard feelings. Landon really likes the idea and they make their wish list. They being the checking off the items on their wish list together and they both find that they don’t want it to end. Landon knows that he will never meet anyone like Kimber again and is afraid of what he is feeling for her. The night that spent together was unbelievable until an accident changed everything.

He dipped his chin and looked down at the condom. Oh? More like Oh shit. The latex had broken. Wide open.

Will they be able to walk away as agreed or will fate intervene and keep them together?

Hero –Landon Downey: 4 stars
Heroine –Kimber Reynolds: 4 stars

Would I recommend this book: Yes! This was a great book that tells a story of unfulfilled love finding a way to find itself.

Would I read other books by this author: Yes! I can’t wait to read Aiden’s and Crickitt’s story.

Jessica Lemmon’s THE MILLIONAIRE AFFAIR is the third book in her Love in the Balance series and it’s her best to date! If you haven’t read any of the books in the series, never fear! It’s not necessary to have read them in order to enjoy THE MILLIONAIRE AFFAIR and besides, it’s a perfect excuse to read her backlist because you’ll be left wanting more.

We have good character development. Kimber Reynolds accepts the short term position as a live in nanny in order to buy out her ex-boyfriend from the business they co-own. She’s very capable and one that works hard, but also realizes she may be in over her head. While she’s not one to easily ask for help, she’s not one to turn away when it is offered. Then we have Landon. Oh, I’ve made no secret of my love for him (sorry Shane!) and I loved getting to know him better. Landon is very much the opposite of his brother Aiden (HARD TO HANDLE); whereas Aiden is comfortable showing emotion, Landon keeps to himself, but there’s a reason and it’s a heartbreaking one. We have several secondary characters that play a role including the other Downey brother, Evan. Though the big scene stealer? Lyon! I just adore this six-year-old who’s obsessed with Henry Cavill’s SUPERMAN.

What I really loved about THE MILLIONAIRE AFFAIR is Lemmon’s ability to make us laugh and her writing is very natural. Once again, Lemmon gives us a flawed hero who isn’t afraid to confront his fear when the time comes. What I adore about Lemmon’s writing is that it was very easy for her to go the clichéd route several times in THE MILLIONAIRE AFFAIR and yet, she doesn’t. We understand early on why Landon closes himself to relationships and when someone from his past makes an unexpected appearance, it’s easy to make the connections between the past and the present. I worried for a bit at how Lemmon was going to handle this situation, but I shouldn’t have doubted her because she has yet to make me roll my eyes or throw a book at the wall. I won’t go into detail regarding the incident because it would be a huge spoiler, but let’s just say, I appreciated the character growth at that particular moment.

Readers of romance are fully aware of the moment where the hero and heroine separate because of a misunderstanding, etc and often times, the author quickly wraps up the conflict in the final pages. Lemmon isn’t one of those authors. While she does let her characters wallow in self pity for a bit, she pulls out the big guns and the voice of reason comes through. There were several instances where Kimber and Landon could have walked away or taken a misunderstanding to another level, but instead we get two characters who actually talk. This is one reason why I just adore Lemmon’s writing. Furthermore, there were several hilarious scenes and some fun family teasing. I mentioned six-year-old Lyon being the scene stealer and while he is, I have to say, you’ll love the Downey family! Evan’s presence at Landon’s penthouse while Kimber is living there was fun to read because it provided more insight to the lives of the Downey clan. I’m a little sad I can’t be a part of this family!

If you’re a fan of contemporary romances or are looking to try a new author, I highly recommend Jessica Lemmon’s THE MILLIONAIRE AFFAIR . TEMPTING THE BILLIONAIRE made me take note, HARD TO HANDLE put her on my auto-buy list, but it’s THE MILLIONAIRE AFFAIR that made me a fan for life.

I found this to be a wonderful delight to read, the book starts out with humor and ends with it. I found myself laughing through most of the book, it is filled with wonderful characters that you will fall in love with. In fact I enjoyed it so much that I will be buying the whole series.

Landon is very wealth, in fact he is a millionaire my guess is because of his college girlfriend not only dumping him but having an abortion. It gave him the drive he needed to go after what he wanted, along with using that to not let people get close so he would never be hurt again. His life was full, he didn’t need or want anything or anyone. He had his family and lived through them. Until one week when he had to take care of his nephew and found that he was too much to handle. His sister hooked him up with an old friend who needed money, she agree to watch his nephew why he worked. He found that the women in question had grown up, lord had she grown up. He also found he wanted some one on one time with her in the bedroom. Landon has spent many years not letting anyone women get to close to him. He has many lesson he will have to learn to if he wants to keep Kimber. He has a lot to learn and Kimber just might be the lady to teach him.

Kimber had always had a crush on Landon, this was something she had kept to herself. She needed money to buy out her ex out of her business. She agreed to babysit for Landon, thinking she had out grown her crush. One look at him and she found she wanted him more than ever. This was one time he heartily agreed with her. Kimber has made a lot of bad choices, she finds she can’t believe in herself and doesn’t know what to do. She is torn from what she wants and what she should want. She looks at her parents marriage and doesn’t want to make the same mistakes. The question is does she keep Landon or walk away before she gets in to deep?

As the story goes they couldn’t not stop themselves from having an affair. Things were suppose to be easy, just a few nights together and they would move on. As we know life doesn’t always go as we plan, things change, things get in the way. People change and life has a way of taking its own path. Sometimes we have little or no control as it does in the story. Both find they must make changes since they both want the same thing but are to afraid to show their true feelings. Can this be worked out or will they go their separate ways?

It is hard for me to review this book and not give the story away. What I will say is I love this book. I didn’t find anything in it that I didn’t care for at all. It is more or less a true love story. Nothing to make it much different than a lot of other stories. What the author brings to this story is an outstanding way of telling it that will keep you laughing and at times you will laugh out loud with her wonderful sense humor. The author has a way of bring the characters to life, there is no one you will not like, there is no “evil person” just a lot of wonderful characters that keep you laughing. I found this to be a light read with no heavy things to weigh you down. This is a story for when you just want a funny, well written read, that you can set an enjoy, maybe on those days when your life isn’t going so well. It will brighten not only you day but clear your mind to bring tons of smiles to your face. I highly recommend this book to anyone who just wants a sweet read.

I really liked Jessica Lemmon's Can't Let Go (novella) and Hard to Handle (#2), but I really LOVED this third book in her Love in the Balance series. THE MILLIONAIRE AFFAIR was delightful to read from start to finish. I was silly enough to start it at bedtime and ended up missing nearly a whole night's sleep because I could. not. stop. reading. But I do not regret it for one second! This book is awesome!

The highly successful, sexy and gorgeous, but emotionally unavailable Landon Downey captured my heart when his college girlfriend, Rachel, shattered his. He shut down and refused to be that vulnerable or get attached to anyone other than his family again. He chose women to date who were willing to settle for an exclusive relationship where they met each other's social and sexual needs, but did not expect an emotional bond. He was convinced he was no longer capable of loving someone and even called himself "The Tin Man". Yet it was easy to see how much love he was capable of in how patient, caring and selfless he was with his six year old nephew, his sister, and his brothers. And Kimber with her kind, honest, unselfish, and naturally exuberant ways just enchanted him. He had never met a woman like her and she brought out so many emotions he had been so sure he'd never feel again.

Kimber Reynolds, his sister Angel's friend, has had a crush on Landon since she was sixteen. Ten years hasn't done much to lesson the flush her body feels just being near him and that still makes her nervous to be around Landon. But he needs a Nanny for his nephew Lyon, and she needs the cash to buy out her ex-boyfriend and business partner, Mick. Once she meets his brother Evan's adorable son, Lyon, she is lost to his sweet little-boy charm. Besides, she's was only fooling herself when she tried to resist the opportunity of spending a week practically alone with Landon in his posh penthouse apartment and getting to know the man she has compared all other men to better. She just needs to keep her feelings for him under wraps. She needs to keep it casual and not fall into her usual habit of falling hard and fast with every man she spends time with only to have her heart broken when they walk away from her.

Landon and Kimber are a serious case of opposites attracting. He is a buttoned-up planner who thinks everything out before making the logical decision and she is a fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants woman who makes decision based on her emotions. One thing they have in common is a wicked, no denying it, can't keep my eyes off and please let me touch attraction to each other. The other is they don't trust their selves to find the right person to trust with their heart or their future. These two were just so great together. I loved the way they interacted and balanced each other. Ms. Lemmon's beautiful writing style made it easy to get lost is their story, rooting for their romance to flourish, chuckle at little Lyon, want to smack Mick, and laugh out loud at her friends and his brothers and sister. The dialogue was witty and yet, realistic. The sibling banter was especially spot-on and had me cracking up at the quips and antics. I finished this book with a grin on my face. Loved it!! 5 stars

The Millionaire Affair (Love in the Balance #3) by Jessica Lemmon
Forever (Grand Central Publishing)
Pub Date: Jun 24 2014

Welcome to my first review via NetGalley – obviously this was obtained so I could give a fair & unbiased review.

I wasn’t sure what I was going to think about this book when I first picked it up. I feared my first NetGalley review wouldn’t be a winner. The opening chapter doesn’t make the hero as sensitive looking as intended and so his closed personality is hard to get over at first. But, this book deals with something that is really heartbreaking: A man coming to terms after years of heartache from his girlfriend getting an abortion without his input.

Obviously, some people are going to feel really strongly about that topic, but the author in no way makes this a vehicle for what’s “right” and who “deserves” to make that decision or any other politically minded volleys – it is strictly about this one man’s hurt and the fear from that which drives him to being closed off for self-preservation.

The heroine is a feeler. The exact opposite. But, she’s coming to not trust those gut decisions she’s been living with. She has her own past with this of her mother’s bitterness and her own personal poor decisions.

When the opportunity to nanny for Landon, her early crush, arises, Kimber… well, she doesn’t jump at it. She actually thinks that between babysitting and being around Landon (16 years later) it’s a recipe for disaster. But, due to needing to buy her ex-boyfriend out of their business, she says yes. Money talks…ok, not usually for Kimber, but this time it totally does.

The attraction is still there for Kimber. And Landon, well, he’s basically picking his jaw up off the floor when he sees the sassy, curvaceous redhead he remembered she’s grown into. They slowly build a cozy home atmosphere during the week she’s working for him and when they near the end of their time together, they decide to have an affair…Only, soft-hearted Kimber sets the ground rules of how and when things will end.

This is where I leave off to say, I’m not going to ruin the rest ;)

Landon did win me over. Completely. More than completely: I was rooting for him. Watching him crack his heart open to heal it and win Kimber was beautiful. He learned what he needed to not just about himself, but about her as well. Kimber had her own not so easy lessons about what and who to trust to manage.

A lovely romance without over-drawn angst or drama. I can see that this is a topic that could truly create doubt, trust issues, and fear. Handled with a light touch, I would definitely recommend this book.

Also, this is my first book in this series – the characters from the other book were exactly fleshed out enough, never took over the story, and added enough that as a new reader I was still glad they were there. That alone is worth bumping this from a strong 3.5 to a solid 4.

I’ll be grabbing the earlier books while I wait for the next in the series.

Heroine: 7
Hero: 7…no, wait. 8

For Landon Downey, millionaire ad executive, there is no such thing as love. He does not let himself get involved in romantic relationships – ever. His heart was broken by his college girlfriend, Rachel. She was pregnant, and Landon had showed up with a baby name book and a bouquet of flowers – to tell Rachel that he wanted to work things out, marry her and have a family life. She met him at the door and told him that there was no longer a baby….then slammed the door in his face. He had been shocked when she told him about the pregnancy, and needed a little time to digest it, and to come up with a plan. Landon was pragmatic – everything was planned. Now he had no choice. The choice was taken away from him. She had gotten an abortion without any input from him. His opportunity to be a father was gone…forever as far as he was concerned. He would NEVER set himself up for that kind of hurt again.

Presently he has just ended a two-year relationship/arrangement with super-model Lissa Francine. She was caught in the throes of passion with another man. There was even a video on YouTube. He is not looking for another relationship. He is perfectly content to go to work, come home to a glass of scotch, visit with his family on occasion, and back to work. No complications. Perfect! Well, until his brother Evan needs Landon to keep his son, Lyon for a week. Landon can’t take off work, so his sister Angel suggests he hire a friend of hers, Kimber Reynolds, as a live-in nanny. Kimber needs some extra money to buy out her business partner and ex. They have broken up, but she is forced to work with him day in and day out because of their joint venture, Hobo Chic, a vintage clothing store. Kimber Reynolds is an old family friend of the Downey family – and has had a crush on Landon Downey since she was sixteen. He remembers her as a gangly, awkward girl with braces and wild red hair. He does not expect the undeniable attraction he feels to the woman he hasn't seen since they were kids. Wow! NOT the girl he remembers. I enjoyed watching the developing relationship between Landon and Kimber. They were a fun combination of pragmatism versus free spirit. I love that! Poor Landon! He doesn’t have a chance.

This is the third book in Jessica Lemmon's Love in the Balance series and is the first I have read. Due to Ms. Lemmon’s phenomenal writing skills, I did not feel like I was missing any part of the story. I have already gone back to book one and started reading the back stories to some of the characters that were secondary in this book. The author manages to give us just enough information about the characters to make us feel we know and like them as she skillfully weaves an interesting story. Her love scenes are well-written and steamy. Her work is blessedly free from distracting grammatical and spelling errors and her writing style is flawless. I recommend The Millionaire Affair and will definitely be reading more of her books.

There are times that you think or plan out your life but there is nothing to say that it can’t be blown away.

This is my second read by this author and I have to say that I loved this book. Ms. Lemmon words in this story were flawless and I couldn’t stop reading and when it ended I wanted more. This story was filled with so many emotions the passion that passed between these characters was heavenly. I enjoyed the interaction between them two how their relationship developed and I could see them falling in love with each other but it seemed that they had an agreement but that agreement could be broken if only they could communicate talk about their feelings.

Landon Downey needed to find someone that could take care of his nephew and his sister Angel had the perfect person. This woman was the same one that helped him with a writing assignment in school but he didn’t know whether it was going to work. His brother Evan told him to watch out because she was hot in all capital letters. Kimber Reynolds had a major crush on Landon but Angel thought it was Evan and she never told her that she was wrong. When she meets Lyon she falls in love with him, of course he was a bundle of energy and she had her hands full.

Landon had not been attracted to a woman with red hair and oh my was he attracted to her. He was able to know when she was near because of her scent but most of all he wanted her like now. Kimber wanted Landon with passion but she knew she couldn’t she was just there for one week and she didn’t do one night stands. When she was with a boyfriend she went all in it with heart and all. Well then while talking with her friend which was also and acquaintance of Evan she came up with the Millionaire Affair. They could have fun and then when the fun ended then the affair ended and they went their separate ways. Can she really keep her heart out of the affair? Landon has his life mapped out already but one slip and his plan is blown to heck.

The Millionaire Affair was such a sweet and heart warming story that made me sigh. I couldn’t believe his story and what happened to him in college. I felt really bad for him and I couldn’t blame him for the way he reacted later on in the story. Then there is Kimber’s story and how her parents divorce played a roll in all of her relationships. Towards the end of the story she was listening to all of the people’s advice but she was not listening to her heart and that is where she went wrong. She should have listened to her heart because Landon felt the same way about her but he did what he thought she wanted. He didn’t fight for what he wanted and that was his fault he caved in too early.

I loved Ms. Lemmon’s writing style and her character development. I can’t wait to see what she has in store next.

I'm on the fence about putting this on hold or just not finishing it. I'll be honest, I received this book as a gift after gushing over the first book in the spin-off series, Bringing Home the Bad Boy. That story was about Evan, the younger brother of this hero.

Landon (37) didn't do love and commitment, not after his girlfriend in college had aborted their baby, and his only long-term relationship had been more of an arrangement with his supermodel girlfriend, until she left him for a movie star.

Kimber (32) had had a crush on Landon since she was sixteen when she lived with him and his sister for a summer. In need of money to save her clothing store business, she jumped at the chance to spend a week with Landon as the live-in nanny to his nephew, Lyon for one week.

I liked Kimber in the beginning. From her description of having that 1940s siren flair, to her big heart, her openness, and she wasn't too shy to take control once in a while. She acknowledged that her biggest flaw was falling in love too easily and trying to hard to turn a relationship into something more. In her words, she smothered the men she'd been with. When her friend suggested she just have a fling without romantic entanglements, she decided to try, even though it went completely against her nature. Anyway, the sexual tension and chemistry between Landon and Kimber was a steady, slow burn. It had been building steam, ready to blow, that when they finally went there, the scene faded to black. All the juicy details were recounted in Landon's thoughts the morning after. I felt a little cheated considering Evan's story was very sensual and graphic enough for the reader to get swept away.

What really bothers me at the moment is that Kimber is totally fine with giving up who she is just to finally get laid by Landon.

This is happening. Finally. Truly.
If she could time-travel back to her sixteen-year-old self, that shy girl with the braces would laugh and call her a liar.
She'd never believed she'd get her hands--or her mouth--on Landon Downey.
(pages 123-124)

The point where I decided to stop, she realized that Gloria's suggestion may have been ill advised. She also kept giving herself pep talks to shut up her conscience. After reading a friend's review, I flipped through the last few chapters and realized I probably wouldn't enjoy the journey to the dramatic climax.

This book may not be my cup of tea, but I truly enjoyed the other book and plan on continuing with that series. I just didn't feel much empathy for Kimber and how she undermined herself just for the sex.

Awesome! Characters, plot, story, writing pretty more than good!!
I liked this series because of the stories ( romance for sure ) but more because the author gave me good reasons to continue to read her book whether this series or other book such as "If you dare".
Her book are easy to read simply I was immersed in it. They are easy for many things, positive things such as drama bitchy free in a good way.
This book got plot and its own drama but it didn't want me to pull my hair out. The characters have a down to earth personality. For sure Landon was an hero with struggle and baggage but that was him, the character. I was surprise and in kind of awe because I couldn't really grab the character until the end, the character developed or was opened up from the beginning to the end of the story while Kimber was kind of fixed. I also loved Kimber so much for the fragile, pure heart she got even when she backed out which made the plot more interesting a but the author didn't go full into complicating the story :
short and Neat without missing a beat
A reason why I keep reading from this author, each book, different yet with things in common. Different characters and story. Each one gave me a glimpse at the previous heroes in the past and the moment and also opened to others characters already presented in the previous story but gave more informations about them so curiosity is there for them and I think others books from the same series are in the waiting, at least 2.
This series has a warm and charm.

Back to the characters, I loved those a little more than Aid/Saddie.Because the story was quite lovely and sad at the same. There was something in Kimber that touched me such her ability to love easily but not recklessly. She did fell in love but after moments or time she figured out. Those characters were at a stage of life they knew their own likes and dislikes as for the way they led their life. And Landon, I'm thankful for the note from the author, I wouldn't even think about how could a man living a perfect cold life while having a such lovely family and how he melt for his own nephew. The man was a sucker, yep.
About the time, short book but the span of time about their story seemed short but it felt right into place.
Everything was right for me such an enjoyment. Yeah I really liked it a lot!
A must read.

Kimber Reynolds feels that she always falls in love too fast. Case in point, her ex-boyfriend Mick that she met while on the rebound from another boyfriend. He’s still in her life even though they’ve been broke up for a while because she made the mistake of believing that they would be together forever and went into business with him. Now no longer together she loves her little shop but Mick wants to sell it. Kimber can’t afford to buy him out so she’s stuck with him day after day. When her best friend Angel asks her to help her brother Landon out for a week by becoming a live in babysitter it’s the money that he’s offering that causes her to cave. Never mind that she knows nothing about children or more importantly that she has had a secret crush on Landon since she was sixteen. She can do this, she’s done falling too fast, she has finally learned her lesson.

Landon Downey no longer does romantic relationships. He had his heart broke in college and since then, he and his few girlfriends have had a policy, no emotional entanglements. It’s worked great for him for the past sixteen years, even when his last girlfriend did a number on him. When he offers to watch his six year old nephew for the week, he had no idea just how hard juggling work a and rambunctious little boy would be. He needs help and help comes in the form of one Kimber Reynolds that he has not seen since his heart was ripped out that ill-fated summer sixteen years ago. The last thing that he expected was how beautiful she had become and how much he would be attracted to her because he doesn’t do attraction, he doesn’t do real relationships. When they come up with an agreement to run through a list of bedroom activities and then make a clean break, can they keep their hearts out it? Can they say goodbye and go on about their lives?

This is the third book in The Love in the Balance Series and even though it read well as a standalone I knew that I was missing more of the story once Landon’s other siblings got together. I really enjoyed this book though, so much so that I have purchased the first two books and plan to read them so that I can get to know the others that were mentioned in this story.

I received an advanced copy of this book from Grand Central Publishing in return for an honest review.

Love in the Balance is one of those series that makes you laugh, cry, scream with anger and obviously leaving you with a big smile after finishing each of the books. My favorite still is Hard to Handle, but this book is getting close. Guess what? It was time for another millionaire... it was time for Landon.

The book begins with a prologue from the past, and in my opinion was a very sad part, but it give us a sneek peak of how Landon will be in the future/present. Spoilers aside, that moment in his life made him to be the "Tin Man". Someone without touching the feelings side, but everything changed when he sees Kimber once again. Kimber is a family friend (Landon's sister best friend), and who spent some summers back in the Lake Michigan when they were teenagers. She always had a crush on him and seeing him again brought back all those feelings that were hidden.

Faith brought them together, when Landon has to "babysit" his nephew, but actually can't because of work. So he "hired" Kimber to stay with the kid when he was working. Such a baby sitter she became! When the sex tension is too much to continue, they went all in and finally gave in to temptation. Kimber bring the idea of making a list of top ten things to do between them and when they strikethrough every item, they would walk away from each other. No feelings. No strings attached. But faith had other things in mind and that didn't work out for neither of them. How goes the line? "First comes the baby and then love in a carriage"?

It was one of those books that you actually need to keep reading because you want to know whats going to happen. So, yeah, it was that good. It was short for me, too fast even, but I love it either way. I love even more the epilogue, which was totally sweet. When the characters of the past books show up, it was even better. I always like to know some snippets of what happened to those characters I have read and had their happy ending. At the end, the author made an excellent job and I wouldn't say no to other of her books.

Posted on What I'm Reading

I have read the previous books, and I can honestly say that I don't remember Landon. If he was in the previous stories, he was a minor character. So, I was shocked to read that Angel, Aiden, and Evan had an older brother who's a millionaire. Anyway, now that I'm over my shock I guess I should tell you what I thought of the story.

I think this might be my favorite story, and I did love Shane's story. What I loved about this story is you have Landon who is emotionally closed off and he ends up with an emotionally open person. Kimber is very emotionally open. I love this line from her:
Her secret superpower was the ability to morph a perfectly okay short-term relationship into a doomed one that zombie-dragged it's decaying self to inevitable demise.
So, yeah she could be a little clingy, but she wanted to work on that and who would be the perfect person other than emotionally shutoff Landon. Honestly, like how you have two people fall for one another who are polar opposites. You have Landon who is the planner, and will dot every "I" and cross every "T". While Kimber goes with the flow and take things as they come.

The Millionaire Affair had me feeling an array of emotion. It wasn't Kimber's doing, but Landon. It was like he had an emotional awaking. He was a hollow shell of himself before Kimber helped him open up. Kimber even went through some growth in the book, because she had to learn to trust herself. Overall, a great book. I laugh and cried. I didn't expect to shed a tear, but Jessica got a few tears out of me. So, if you are looking for something to read, you might give The Millionaire Affair a try. Another bonus, the story can be read as a standalone.

I first read Hard to Handle by Jessica Lemmon a couple of months ago. I really fell in love with Aiden and Sadie and when I got the blog tour invite for The Millionaire Affair, I knew I had to sign up.

The story begins with Landon in his college days and a huge pregnancy dilemma with his college girlfriend. I was drawn into the story by the prologue itself.

Landon is now a very successful ad executive in his 30's and is having to babysit his nephew, Lyon for his brother. The fact is that Landon is so intent on work he needs help with Lyon. Enter Kimber.

Kimber is a fiercely independent owner of a vintage clothing store, but also the best friend of Angel, Landon's sister. Oh and the best part? She is a dreamer that acts before she thinks most of the time and is lots of fun! Did I mention she has been I love with Landon since she was 16!?!

When Angel calls her begging for her to be a live in nanny to Lyon for a week, she gives in because she really needs the money. What will happen when she is under the same roof with Landon for an extended period of time? Can she put her feelings aside? Or will she crack the tin man and bring him to his knees?

I really enjoyed this story. While there is not a ton of drama and it's an easy read, I enjoy that. It's nice to pick up a books with limited angst and know that its going to be a read that will leave you with lots of warm fuzzies inside. I really enjoy not having to work so hard for happiness all the time! I especially love Landon's character and his feelings he struggles to accept. He really is a fun guy! And Kimber is super sweet and endearing as well. Their chemistry is so amazing to watch unfold. If you're looking for a feel good love story, one click The Millionaire Affair today!

Landon Downey finds himself in need of a babysitter to help with his 6-year old nephew while he's staying with him for a few weeks. Kimber Reynolds in is desperate need of cash to help her get out of a business deal she made with her ex-boyfriend. Landon's sister Angel, who also happens to be Kimber's close friend is more than happy to arrange a deal that will benefit both Landon and Kimber. Landon agrees, because the geeky little girl from 16 years ago won't pose a problem, or so he thinks. Kimber agrees because she still doesn't have that crush she had on Landon 16 years ago, or does she? Well........when Landon opens the door to find Kimber, he is awestruck by the beautiful and feisty redhead staring back at him, while Kimber's butterflies that have been dormant for years begin to flutter once again. Needless to say, the next week proves to be quite interesting all the way around, but when it's all said and done...will Landon AKA "The Tin Man" finally get a heart, and will Dorothy make it back to Kansas with her heart still intact?

I really liked Kimber's character. She not only was feisty and stubborn, she was funny and easy to connect with. The chemisty between Kimber and Landon is hot, and there are some steamy scenes that will have you fanning your face. Landon isn't the typical type of book boyfriend I fall for, but between the steamy scenes and what takes place over the course of the novel, he had totally won me over by the end. This is my first novel by Jessica Lemmon, and the third in this series, which can easily be read as a standalone companion novel. The Millionaire Affair is a fun, sexy, romantic novel that is filled with humor, hotness, and drama. If you are looking for an enjoyable novel that will make you smile, then you've found it. Check it out.

This was a fun and sexy read, totally swoon worthy!

Landon is a millionaire who has a mission he needs help with. He is stuck babysitting his nephew and needs someone to help him with this task. Angel, Landon's sister has suggested he hire her best friend Kimber for this job. Although Kimber has no experience with kids, she takes the job because she needs the money for her business. She's been trying to buy out her ex who happens to be her co-owner of her store.

Kimber has always had a thing for Landon. She has been friends with Angel since they were kids and she secretly harbored a crush on Landon. Landon has never seen Kimber in any way other than just a friend. So when he sees her again, he can't believe what a beautiful woman she has turned out to be. Landon has guarded his heart ever since what happened with his girlfriend from college, she really broke his heart and he's had nothing but arranged girlfriend's since then.

What Landon didn't expect was for his feelings for Kimber to turn to true love. He watched how she interacted with his nephew and he longed for that, he longed for a family that he could have had when he was in college, he just didn't realize it.

Can Landon woo Kimber and make his dream come true by becoming a family with her? Can Kimber accept his proposal's or is she going to continue being stubborn and keep him at arm's length?

This was a very steamy read and the sex scenes were hot!

The ending to this love story was just perfect. You can't beat a beautiful happily ever after!

I totally recommend this story if you love billionaire love stories!

This was a 4.5 star read for me :)

Oh. My. Gosh! I completely fell in love with "The Millionaire Affair" by the exceptionally talented, Jessica Lemmon. It was by far my favorite book in the entire Love in the Balance series, and it completely blew me away. I loved Landon and Kimber - Don't you just love their unique names? - and thought they were amazing and relatable main characters. I honestly couldn't have asked for anyone better. Landon and Kimber had wonderful personalities and they complemented each other very well. I loved their electric chemistry together and how their relationship progressed throughout. It was slightly unconventional in the beginning, and they endured some ups and downs along the way - What relationship doesn't? - but I was freaking ecstatic with the conclusion to their story. I fell in love with them from the very beginning, and I honestly couldn't get enough. I finished "The Millionaire Affair" in under two days, if that's any indication of how amazing this novel was. I loved how the book was told from both Landon and Kimber's alternating POV. It was also wonderful to see Shane and Crickitt and their beautiful baby, as well as Evan and Lyon, and Aiden and Sadie, among others. Landon and Kimber's story was special and I couldn't have chosen anyone better than Jessica Lemmon to tell it. It was truly remarkable and one I will never soon forget. I am so sad that this series is over, but I am also happy because I know it won't be my last Jessica Lemmon novel. She did a phenomenal job with TMA and I loved her writing style even more in this one. I truly can't wait to read more contemporary romance stories from her!

5 Star Review

This is the third book in Lemmon's Love in the Balance series and unfortunately for me it is the first I have read. Luckily for me, I did not feel I was missing anything from Landon and Kimber's story but it is unfortunate for me because Lemmon's writing is amazing and I most definitely have missed out on two good books. Never fear though, instant downloads will help remedy that.

Seriously, I was hooked by the prologue alone, and it was perfect in explaining why Landon has relationship issues. Luckily Landon's little nephew needed a place to stay and Landon's sister Angel had the perfect solution in suggesting Kimber watch him.

Kimber had always had a crush on Angel's oldest brother but nobody knew. Now she would be living down the hall from him for a week while watching his nephew, and she knows time has only made Landon look better and it she worries her 16 year old crush may still be lingering. But Kimber has her own issues with relationships. Often too quick to fall in love with guys, she often sabotages her own relationships. With Landon, if he's game, she sets out to be different this time.

I loved the relationship that slowly developed between the this couple. Blending that with the close relationships they had with family and friends and the wonderful antics of little Lyon, there was no doubt I would enjoy this story. There is humor, some emotional moments, and of course sizzling chemistry all adding up to an enjoyable story. I am looking forward to going back to learn more about the other couples and further to see who will get the next story.
