Granada, Spain. When human remains are found close to a little mountain village, Inspector Moreno’s investigations uncover a dangerous world of gangsters, prostitutes and eccentric British expats. Solving crime in the height of the Andalusian Summer is thirsty work, but Moreno is seldom far from a glass of something cold - and of course, a delicious tapa to go with it.
I really enjoyed this book. Moreno, a hapless overweight Spanish detective, somehow manages to solve crimes, and the discovery of a skeleton in a dried out hillside reservoir, is his current murder case. Recruiting a number of great characters to assist him in a deception, he finds himself involved in a longstanding dispute between British expats and a missing rogue developer. Very entertaining. I’ve given this book four stars, not because it is a piece of literary genius but because I genuinely enjoyed it! The characters are well described and the story is easy to follow, with a twist at the end. Pick it up, you won’t want to put it down!
Thoroughly enjoyed this well written crime novel, reminded me a bit of a Spanish Montalbano which is a good thing. Is an easy read with well written characters and motives. Am definitely lining up book 2 in the series to read in the near future.
I really enjoyed this book. The setting in the Alpujarras (which I have visited several times) is brought to life really well. With well rounded characters and a funny and intriguing storyline it reels you in with satisfying aplomb. I can't wait to read the next adventure of Inspector Moreno.
A novel approach putting the classic cop / who dun it genre in an unusual setting: in Spain among the British expat community, but as it is seen through the eyes of a local. I look forward to reading the next Moreno mystery.
Really enjoyed this - and the second book: a different sort of detective and great observation of ex-pats in Spain - as someone learning Spanish I loved it.
