Lost in France is an erotic contemporary romance novel set in Paris, the city of Love and Romance.
Warning: 18+++
Lost. The one thing I’ve wanted above everything else was taken from me in one night. My dreams were shattered forever because of one irreversible mistake. There was nothing I could do about it. I’d lost everything. So I did what I always do. I ran. To another continent. To France. To start over. God knows, I needed a new beginning; a new job, a new life. To find what I truly wanted…needed…craved. A man of my own.
My French man found me. He was perfect. Or…was he. Alain du Bois had a secret. One that could destroy us before we even had a chance to find love.
And why was my new boss, Maxwell Grant, the arrogant and demanding CEO of Grant Global, fixated on me?
Would I find myself in France? Would I get what I desperately wanted? Or was I jumping from one hotter than hell fire into another?
Jani is a voracious reader and would spend her last dollar on a book - always fascinated that for the mere price of a book, she can escape her world for a while and see through someone else's eyes.
Besides reading, her favorite 'thing' is traveling - she has traveled the world, learning about the ways people live and has come to the realization that no matter where we live, we all ultimately want the same things. Her hobby - Scrapbooking - keeps her up till way after midnight and her usual subjects are her family and her travels.
Ever since she can remember, Jani wanted to write stories about people, about their lives and loves. Relationships and Happiness - arguably the most difficult things to master in life and yet exactly what everyone ultimately desires (in her humble opinion).
She would love to hear from you, please email her at janikaybooks@gmail.com
Jani is becoming a favorite of my authors..she writes in a way that just grabs you from page one..full review to follow..
Ok I am going to start this review with a little story..Jani (author) messages me on FB to ask if she should change a part, because of what I said on GR? Well being, me, I don't remember what the fuck I could have said on GR..quickly looking before I answer..I only see Too Many Boys Too Little Time.. She took that to mean I thought the main character was a slut..I meant the bitch was LUCKY. So NO Jani do not change a thing!!

I loved this book, Jani has a way of writing that draws you right in and makes you feel for the characters so quickly. It is not an easy task and she does it seamlessly. The writing flows in a way that you are rooting for the heroine, before you even know why you should.

Now let's talk about the boys. I know I fall hard for the assholes and this book is no different. Let me rephrase that, the asshole isn't always who he seems. I like the hard to get, prove me your worth my time boy and you get that. His name is Maxwell and well I fell in love.

We start with Rebecca leaving the life that she has created because of a man. The reason isn't splashed in your face but you know it was a major cause of strife in her life. She has loved Julian for as long as she can recall and doesn't see her life moving forward without her moving away. Like continents away. On the plane ride over she meets a man, then in the conference room she meets another. One seems perfect, the other seems perfectly flawed. The perfect one is anything but..you will have to figure out which one is yours.

I can't say I am not harassing (encouraging, stalking) Jani to keep her ass working. Diligently checking in with words of encouragement to get book two in my hot little hands. Oh wait did I say Hot? Yes the other thing Jani writes like a champ is HOT LOVING SCENES..oh yeah panty check meter went off a plenty whilst reading this one. Great book, great characters and great sex! We have some hot men in this book....Alain...Maxwell...then Julian a man Rebecca is trying to get away from, she's known him since high school....so she moves to France to work for Maxwell, the hot CEO of Grant Industries!
in the mean time she meets a hot Frenchman named Alain!!! He's head over heals with Rebecca and treats her like a queen, I absolutely LUV him!...Rebecca finds herself in a crazy situation with Max, her boss....the plot thickens , I cannot say much without giving the story away.....took me on a damn rollercoaster ride, I luved it! HOT,HOT,HOT.....totally shocked me......Jani this was a great book and I cannot wait to see what happens in book two.....because all the men in this book....yum...
I was asked by Jani to read/review this book for her, and it is absolutely awesome, so awesome in fact that I am going to hunt out Jani's other book open your eye's and read that too.
If you like a book, with the T's crossed and the I's dotted this book is not for you, it is definitely an R18, it contains all the things we women look for in a book, explicit nature, delicious guys, fancy things, glamorous lifestyles, expensive cars..........
It is pure unadulterated passion, in the form, of an anonymous lover who stalks you till you give in, you think he is one person, but really when you find out who he is, it’s like Oh My God
He is so possessive, he is so utterly desirable, he makes me go weak at the knees, and he will not tolerate any attention shown to me by another male, in any way shape or form.
But it does make me question the fact of, do we really know people that we are intimate with as well as we thought we did, would it pay to not be so on the spot trustworthy.
I cannot really tell you much more about this book, or I will spoil the storyline for its release but know this, you must and I mean MUST read ''Lost In France'', add it to your TBR list NOW
Lost in France was an angsty thrill ride. Rebecca leaves her long time lover Julian behind in Australia when she accepted a new job position in France by CEO Maxwell Grant. Her intentions were to start a new life. Little did Rebecca know that soon after her departure from Australia she would be a heartthrob Frenchman named Alain. The last thing on Rebecca's or Alain's mind was that fate would bring the two of them together. It was instant attraction. Rebecca was enthralled with Alain and his piercing blue eyes. Alain was immediately attracted to the sad red head seated next to him on the plane. Alain felt like he needed to protect Rebecca and mend her broken heart as he pitied the fool who let her go. Alain displayed dominance and possessiveness over Rebecca immediately which was not the norm for him. He was use to using women to his advantage and quickly disposing of them. Alain was not looking for a commitment. However he could not fight his attraction toward Rebecca. Rebecca could not believe how she felt so drawn to Alain so soon after her departure from Julian. She began to question the integrity of her past relationship in order to justify her new attraction to Alain. Alain immediately swept Rebecca off her feet with his charm by wining and dining her all throughout France. Upon arriving to her hotel she immediately began receiving gifts from her new boss Maxwell Grant. She thought nothing of it. Then, unexpectedly Maxwell Grant requested a meeting with her to go over her new contract with Grant Industries. As soon as Rebecca met Maxwell she felt hatred. She did not like her new boss. It was an instant rivalry. She was struggling with the perceptions that Maxwell was transmitting. Was he attracted to her? He couldn't be...this arrogant man was married to one of the most beautiful model's in the world. Surely he would not risk his relationship to pursue her? Alain continued to sweep Rebecca off her feet. He couldn't stand being away from her and the feeling was mutual. However from the minute she met Maxwell a new feeling ignited inside her. She didn't know what to make of it. It seemed that Maxwell was jealous of her actions one minute, but strictly professional the next. Maxwell was a very attractive man as well, but Rebecca couldn't get over the fact that she loved to hate him. However she always had the thought in her head of what if? Where were these feelings coming from? What the hell was his intentions? Rebecca was feeling torn between love and lust. In a way it was a bit of a unannounced love triangle. Rebecca was not ready for all these new emotions especially since her intentions were to start a new life focusing on herself. Then, when she thought things couldn't become anymore confusing the unexpected happens...She was taken back by this turn of events. It made her once again question her feelings. She thought she was in love with the Frenchman. Then she learned that Alain's life was much more complicated than she expected. Their love was put to the test. All the while Rebecca is struggle to figure out this love/hate relationship going on with Maxwell. Could love overcome impossible barriers? Is love worth giving up your destiny? These are situations that Rebecca must overcome. An unexpected turn of events lead to an edge of your seat ending! What will happen next? Only the second book will tell... Until then be sure to read Lost in France to know the full story of Rebecca's unfortunate luck with love.
Where to begin with this book..... I want to start by saying WOW... I started this book having NO idea what I was getting into and honestly I don't think It would have mattered...THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME!!
Becca on her way to start her new job and life is on her way to Paris when she meets this handsome man in the seat next to her....This romance begins the exact moment she falls into his lap as their plane experiences some turbulence, and all I can say is that they are HOT!!!
"Moving my body up and down his thick shaft, to the rhythm of the crashing waves, I gave myself over to the pleasure tingling throughout my body. Alain's grip on my ass tightened, his hands burning into my flesh as he accelerated the rhythm , my ass slamming into his balls with every downward thrust." ~Becca
Alain comes from noble blood and has many obligations to his family but.... has fallen in love with Becca...he wants to marry her, will he make the right decision and chose love over family....will she accept his proposal in more ways than one? Read the book, it is well worth it :)
"Ever since I was a young boy, My mother said I was a hopeless romantic. Like her. She told me it was ok to listen to my heart in matters of love, to follow my instincts. She is the one who taught me the value of real love. that it was worth waiting for." ~ Alain
This book has it all...Really HOT sex, love, scandal, heartache, and very hard decisions....I am seriously suffering from a book hangover after reading this book....Thank you Author Jani Kay for such great story that I could fall in love with.
Wow what a hot story this was. Not one but two hot men this author allowed me to drool over. Rebecca moves half way around the world to heal from her break-up. Nearly straightaway We are introduced to the sexy, hot Frenchman called Alan.... What happens with these two within minutes of meeting had my jaw dropping!!Just when I'd calmed down from that in enters Rebecca's boss Maxwell.... Yes another hot and sexy man. Thoroughly enjoyed the storyline & yes there are lots of sex scenes in this book:) This book ended in a 'no way' moment for me. I hope I don't have to wait too long for book 2. Received in return for an honest review.
Rebecca left her home to begin a new job that would take her to France. She was running from the man that held her heart because she couldn’t have him and being around him any longer was just too much to bear. So why not start over?
On the plane she meets Alain, the uber sexy Frenchman, and just wow the chemistry and immediate attraction between these two is dynamic. She jumps in with both feet deciding to grab hold of this opportunity and see where it goes. So here we are in France with a French tour guide and one that will rock her world. Then Rebecca comes face to face with her gorgeous boss, Maxwell Grant. She is drawn to him, there is something about him that gets her hormones raging and her fiery temper flaring. But there’s a problem. Not only does she have Alain and wants to see where it goes, but Maxwell has a beautiful super model wife, so why would he want her? And if there is one thing that Rebecca is adamant about it’s that she will not be the other woman, ever.
At first I didn’t know what to think about Alain, I knew he was hiding something but not sure exactly what that was. Alain was determined not to give into the chemistry as long as Rebecca was still someone else’s in her mind. He wanted her all to himself. His secret wasn’t so bad, at least until feeling got involved and then ultimatums were issued. I loved Rebecca and Alain together and I was all for him, that is until the end. Then I didn’t know any longer how to feel.
Now Maxwell, I didn’t really like him at first. I thought he was just a major palyboy that didn’t care about his marriage and only wanted what he wanted. But as time went on I started to realize there was a whole lot more to Max than I knew.
So now guess where my ass is parked? Right on top of that fence!
I need more, right now. I need to know the answers to unanswered questions about Alain. I need to know Max’s story. I need to know what happens to Rebecca when she leaves France and heads to her next assignment in Germany. I NEED TO KNOW NOW!!!!
What can I say about Jani's writing that will convince you that you have to read her books. Well let me start with Jani has this ability that draws you in, takes your breath away and leaves you standing there mouth gaping saying - WTF just happened. She wraps you in her books, makes you feel that you are the one living the lives of her characters. If I had to use one word for her I would say - Emotions. You feel them all through her books.
Rebecca is fleeing. She is fleeing everything she has ever known. She lost her self once, but is determined to find her self again. Things will never be the same. The guy she thought she loved shared her and his heart. Rebecca meets Alain and he instantly sweeps her off of her feet. He is sweet and loving and everything you thought he would be - it's all a lie. This is the thing with reading a book that Jani writes. She has this power to lead you one way while wishing you were going just the opposite.
Lets meet Max the new boss who is all asshole and all make your girly bits wet. I loved him and when I say loved I mean he was everything I needed him to be. Reading about him and Rebecca and the pull that was between them was rewarding. They both fought every ounce of want, but yet it still was there.
Jani I need MAX now and not later. He was everything I hoped he would be and I knew Alain would fall behind. I somehow hated him from the get go.
The storyline sucked me in but I found myself rolling my eyes quite a few times. Rebecca seems to be only focused on finding love (even though she has a PhD). Men just keep throwing themselves at her...she must be pretty irresistible since every rich man she meets falls totally in love with her instantly. I liked Alain even though he made a stupid decision at the end. Contrary to other reviewers, I hated Max. He was way too aggressive and gave off a pervy-boss vibe. I can't believe I'm saying this but there's almost too much sex in this book.
Jani Kay wastes no time in getting to the good parts as the sexy sizzle between Rebecca and Alain starts when they meet on the plane from Australia to France. As Rebecca leaves Julian and her native land behind for a terrific job as Director of Marketing in Paris, she is ready for adventure and a new beginning. She reacts so strongly and quickly to Alain on the plane that I wonder a bit if he is her rebound guy, at first.
Then Alain sticks around and acts as her own personal Parisian tour guide. (I want one like him!) They are becoming inseparable, until her new boss, sexy, alpha male, American Maxwell Grant decides that he is attracted to Rebecca, too.
I really enjoyed when Rebecca stood up to Maxwell and rebuffed him. She was feisty and confident as she held her own during her presentation. She is determined not to get caught in the web of another married man. I could understand her wariness and her need to be independent. I liked that no matter her attraction to Alain or any other guy, she remained focused on her career goals (she has a PhD).
I enjoyed that Alain's POV was included. It was interesting to know what he was thinking and his desire to marry for love, despite the threat of being cut-off by his father if he doesn't marry a Frenchwoman of aristocratic blood. Maxwell's POV was not included, so I don't know what his thoughts about his marriage nor what his desire for Rebecca is, just a fling or something more.
Rebecca is caught between her attraction to both Alain and Maxwell. Her relationship with Julian started off unclear in the story, but later more is revealed. Maybe in the second book Julian will play a bigger role. The pros for Alain: single, wealthy, sexy, not alpha, wants to be exclusive with her; cons: needs to marry according to his father's wishes. The pros for Maxwell: sexy, alpha male, self-made wealth, strong sexual attraction; MAJOR cons: married, her boss for the 8-month contract, and initially was an arrogant, pushy jerk.
This is the first book of the trilogy, and Jani is off to a great start. There are plenty of erotic romance and hot, sexy, steamy scenes. The descriptions of the different sites in Paris definitely whet my appetite to visit there. Unfortunately for Rebecca, she gets offers that she needs to refuse. She wants to have a man to call her own and who puts her first. It seems like Alain will fill her need, until the surprise twist that leads to a cliffhanger for them. I'm looking forward to where the next novel in the series will go... I want more Rebecca, Alain, and Maxwell!
Note: I received an ARC (advanced reading copy) in exchange for an honest review.
As my 3 stars say I "liked it". But again with Jani Kay's writing style if felt rushed. This story felt like the Coles notes of the original Lost in France. You know the one with the chapter on why the hell Max is out of the blue wanting and aggressively pursuing Rebecca. Aggressive and way out of line! Max cross all sorts of lines in business with a female employee and Rebecca lets him. Sure she gives him firm "no" and runs away ALOT. But if my boss pulled my hands behind my back so I could feel his erection and I was highly educated and good at what I did I WOULD BE DONE, OUT OF THERE!
Alain, "Alain reached for my hand and gently pressed my fingers to his lips. "so beautiful and so smart. That's an unusual combination" excuse me? This is about the time I was getting annoyed by Ms. Clarke! Then we went from strangers on a plane to passionate affair to marriage proposal to....? WHAT THE HELL? All the talking they did between sight seeing and making love you'd think he would have mentioned the hell fire she'd be in with his "bloodlines" and heritage. But as I had said it seems that chapter was also missing.
I have to say I really enjoyed Alain and his passion for her however, Rebecca being a very shallow heart it appears to the reader why only married men want her. She didn't have much depth. And that brings me to the parade of gold bands. Yes, they all marched in and out of her life all these married men. WHAT THE HELL? That was very hard to believe. Julian should have been a memory to Alain explained in a chapter or two not the scene we were given. ughhh!
The biggest issue I had was Max, I just didn't get it. She had taken the job in France; he hired her from his office in New York. It was a glaring omission throughout why he was chasing her. He never acted normal, never explained himself. I was confused kept waiting for the confession even if it was as simple as loving a redhead; calling her firebird really raised my brows WHAT THE HELL. It was just weird
Now, after all these missing excerpts and weird behaviour and us being asked to believe a love that had no discussion of family or future I did (shaking my head, chin in chest) I did some how like it enough to wait for the second book; my heart broke for Rebecca in the end.
I really hope Jani Kay gets a new editor though; I believe a lot of her story is still lost in France!
Lost In France was a fabulous, fun and sexy novel that transported me to France over the course of a few blissful hours. I didn't ever want to come back to the real world...
I will give you a hot tip and let you in on a few things;
1. Have spare panties - this book is HELLA HAWT!! 2. Wear loose fitting pants because you are going to get hungry reading about all the food and wine. You may even want to plan a holiday. 3. Be prepared to be wooed. Maybe more than once. 4. GO ONE-CLICK THIS BOOK
Rebecca is running from a relationship with Julian - her ex highschool sweetheart (he's now married to another woman). That relationship ruled her heart for too long. It's made an imprint in her mind and she's ready to start fresh and start living in the right now and going after her very own Happily Ever After.
From Rebecca's departure from Australia to France and her on-plane escapades (& exhibitionism *fans self*, I knew I was in for a treat, and when we met Maxwell, I couldn't turn those pages fast enough.
Alain seems to be the one to steal her heart and win her over. He's dreamy and treats her like a Queen. Cooking for her, doting on her and providing her with toe-curling orgasms that need to be shared around. I will take one for the team and volunteer, I'm generous like that ;)
Situations come up and things start to unravel. Rebecca starts questioning herself and her emotions as well as those around her. I don't want to give too much away but I was happy with the ending. I only wish it happened a little earlier and the book went for another few hundred pages so I didn't have to wait. *Wishful thinking and all that :)*
There is lots of unanswered questions and I am chomping at the bit to get my answers.
Congrats on a wonderful first in the trilogy Ms Kay. I can't wait for more Maxwell Firebird Trilogy and my next overseas vacation through your captivating words with Rebecca!
As I started reading this book I was in love with this book for more than one reason . Once I started reading this book I could not put it down. I read this book in less than a day. This book was full of emotional roasters, lust, string women, Alpha male, and much more. After reading this book you will need a cold shower.
Rebecca try to get away from all heart ache in her life. So she takes a job in France to get away from pain in her heart. But what she did not see happening is finding Alain. He sweeps her off her feet. She thinks he maybe the one. But her new boss want her for him self. The problem is he married and Rebecca will not go their again . She want a man to just want her and not any one else. But her boss will not let that happen. She finally think she going to have her happy ending with Alain . But Alain can't marry her because she is not he women his father wants him to marry. He is going to marry who his father wants but he want Rebecca be something on the side . But she will not be that because she wants to be some one only.
Rebecca decides she needs to leave to get away from the love she can't have. She flies half way around the world to start her new job for Maxwell Harrison. On her flight she meets the sexy Frenchman Alain. It's clear he is very interested in Rebecca and she is more than attracted to him. She has felling for Maxwell but he is married and she refuses to be the other woman but Max doesn't give up. Alain and Rebecca face obstacles that aren't easy to get around and when Rebecca finds things out about Alain her world crumbles. She runs, things happen and you have to read to find out more.
These are two alpha men at their finest after the same woman. Who will win Rebecca's love or will she find someone new?
I laughed and cried reading this but I was screaming at the end wanting the next book No Regrets right now!!
4 1/2 stars!!!!!!! Lost in France (Firebird Trilogy #1) by Jani Kay
♥♥♥♥ 1/2 Rebecca is a beautiful, professional , sexy woman who has just received her PhD and is offered an exciting new job! She is wanting to put distance between her ex lover and their turbulent past. A chance meeting on the plane and she is introduced to a handsome, dangerous, sexy Frenchman. Alain has many secrets and alot to hide from Rebecca. She is in a foreign country with a new man and now finds out that her new boss Maxwell Grant is not happy with her new relationship. Maxwell seems to want more than a professional relationship with his new employee. Rebecca is taken by surprise by the secrets of Alain and the sudden attraction to Maxwell. If matters weren't bad enough how about a surprise visit from her past! This was an exciting start to a great series!!! I can't wait to see where this is going!!! Michele McMullen
One woman three men that want her. . A blessing or a curse. When Rebecca moves to a new city to start a new job and a new life she never planned to meet the best and worst thing to happen to her on the plane there. When she meets the handsome rich and sexy as sin Frenchman Alain He seems too good to be true yet she can't help falling for him but her happy ending can't be with him. Then she has a strange connection with her new boss that can't be denied but can never happen. Just when she's had enough of them her past comes literally to her doorstep. He is just another reminder that she can't have what she wants. It's time to move on once again but how can you repair a twice broken heart, and deal with the boss that wants what you can't give him? You move on to the next city in your contract. What will Rebecca find in the next city. Can she forget her past and move on we will hopefully find out in book 2 coming soon
I was totally crushed when I was told Jani Kay lost all her work on the second novel in this series. It is so damn heartbreaking. I loved this novel to the max. I laughed and I most certainly cried. I couldn't believe how many married men were involved. I've had a feeling from the start that Grant is the only one for her but he needs to divorce his wife and come to her a free man. Alain totally pissed me off, he claimed to love her but not enough to actually marry her. I just feel bad, this chick has been through the ringer. First her boyfriend that died, then the boyfriend that cheated on her but still wanted her, then Alain and a little bit of Grant.. sheesh, she needs someone to put her first, to love her first. This novel was really great and I don't think I could wait until June 2014, even if it's less than 15 days away, to get a copy of this! Ahh, I want one now!
I can say this book had me from the very beginning!!! Rebecca leaving the country in search of a new life away from one relationship to fall for another. Her new boss Maxwell such an arrogant but I think lonely man. Then her lover Alain a wealthy, jealous man just looking for the absolute love of his life Can he keep her with the demands of the his father? All the intrigue, all the emotion. Who will she be with and how much can her heart take? Jani does a great job keeping you in the book, wanting more, wanting to turn the page faster. Then I really wanted to smack Alain's father, such a slug!! Book #2 cannot come out fast enough!! I want to see where this goes. I would give this 10 Stars if available!!!!!!
I was given this book to read with a blog tour. I'd not heard of this author at all.
This is going to change! because after reading this book I can't wait for book 2, its left me empty, I want more!
The female role is heartbroken, she has no alternative but to run, as she always does. By the time she gets on the plane she burst into tears. But she knows she's doing the only thing that she can think of to help herself and the situation.
Then finds herself sitting next to this gorgeous hunk! Just loved the sex scene in this one, it kinda made me laugh. Especially when someone else witnessed it!
Anyway, I am not going to spoil it for you all, just that, has she gone to Paris to solve her problems? or to make more?
This book got better the further I got into it. Didn't like the female MC at first in this book . At first, this book was mostly sex (which is ok..I like Sex in the books I read) but at times, it got to be cheesy. BUT then......Max entered into the picture, and what started off as a kind of boring read, turned pretty interesting. There is drama, lots of sex, and it looks like a love triangle is on the horizon.
BTW....don't know when book 3 is coming out....sometime soon I hope..will be reading book 2 very soon.
If you haven’t read Jani Kay yet, WRITE HER NAME DOWN. I guarantee you will NOT want to miss out on the sexy, arrogant, magnetic, captivating, and uber alpha male characters she has created in Lost in France.
Holy hell was I lost IN THIS BOOK!!! When I opened the first page, I really had no clue what to expect. I knew nothing except that I love love love the cover. Yes, I read the blurb, but it’s still hard to tell if it’s going to be winner or a loser. Never in a million years did I think it was going to be this AWESOME and CAPTIVATING!!
“Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take but by the moments that take your breath away.”
When Rebecca leaves Australia and heads to France in order to escape her past, the last thing she ever expected was to find not one, but two men that are desperate to have her. On the plane, Rebecca meets Alain the suave and extremely gorgeous Frenchman. (All I have to say is that I have never flown overseas in first class, but evidently I am seriously missing out on First Class hospitality!) Once she sets foot on French soil, Rebecca meets her new boss, Maxwell Grant.
The two men could not be more opposite. Alain is a gentleman. Maxwell is, well………. an arrogant ass. Both are ridiculously alluring in their own way. Alain is sexy and romantic. Maxwell is magnetic and rough. Alain is from aristocratic bloodlines. Maxwell is an American. But both agree that what they want is Rebecca, and they have no intention of letting the other win.
The chase that ensues to win Rebecca is breathtaking to say the least. Rebecca is whisked from Paris New to York to Versailles, from chateau to hotel, from Porsche to Maserati to motorcycle. Alain is charming and sexy. Maxwell is arrogant and smooth. And, I don’t envy the choice Rebecca has to make. Yes, Alain seems perfect, but even though Maxwell is a certifiable A-S-S there’s more to him than you see on the surface. Things happen and circumstances change, but will Rebecca ever find a man to call “mine”?
Jani has created a different kind of alpha male that I am falling madly in love with – both Alain and Maxwell. I can’t quite put my finger on what makes them different from the other rich, gorgeous, sexy as hell, dominating men. Whatever it is, Jani has discovered the secret. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s set in France or because Jani is a great writer (I think it’s the latter), but THE SEX IS HOT! She sure knows how to build anticipation. I seriously could not turn the pages fast enough. The story is just as captivating as the men. And, Jani’s writing style just adds to the awesomeness of it all.
My first big surprise happened when I started Chapter 3. It is the ONE thing a book can have that will make me fall in love with it. You’re probably wondering what it is…. dual POV!!! I seriously love dual POV stories. It ranks up there with hot, well-written sex scenes (which this has too, so double points for Jani!). It’s not a full dual POV book, but what I love is that we get Alain’s POV when it’s needed. This really gives the reader a whole new perspective on the story.
On a side note………. I’ve been thinking…. it’s called the Firebird Trilogy, so what’s the deal with the name???? Most series names have meaning so naturally (maybe not for you, but for me, yes) I was curious. Firebird is briefly mentioned in the book but not explained so now I’m very intrigued. And because of the person that mentioned the word, I’m dying even more to know the significance.
Lost in France isn’t Jani’s first book. Surprised? I was. I had no idea. I have no clue how I missed this bit of information. But you bet I’m going to grab her first book, Open Your Eyes.
I. NEED. BOOK 2. NOW. I can’t wait to see what happens next. And, it doesn’t look like I’ll need to wait that long because January 2014 appears to be the magical date.

BEWARE! MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! ____________________________________
I was extremely excited about reading the book. I know it’s very stupid of me to judge a book by its cover, but really! How could you not love this book’s cover? It seriously made me dive in. And oh, how surprised I was!
Lost in France starts us off with Rebecca’s departure from Australia for 8 whole, magnificent months in Paris. She’s been offered a well-paying job that will keep her away, which is exactly what she needs at that moment. Her thoughts are immediately haunted by the one she’s leaving behind, Julian. Still, not much is revealed about this mysterious creature that she seems to clearly be in love with. As frustrating as that was, I actually enjoyed the bit of mystery. It helped with the foreshadowing and my eagerness to keep on reading and find out.
Then, magic happens! She meets the yummiest Frenchman, Alain, in the plane, but not without making a fool of herself first. Fortunately for her, that foolishness played in her favor, because she immediately entranced Alain. From the second they stare into each other’s eyes, something clicks. This animalistic magnetism starts to build up and linger between them. Thankfully, Alain is a man of action, and straightaway works on hooking Rebecca onto his hook, slowly reeling her in and making her his. He becomes her tourist guide, showing her all of France. Cue the romantic photomontage.
I loved Alain! He was so perfect! He was a complete gentleman, always putting Rebecca first in everything. He could see right through her, as well. I love it when a man can see right through a woman’s heart. It’s just such a comforting thing to know that even when you’re trying to hide your feelings, the man you’re with can’t be fooled. He knows you like he knows himself. And the way he pleasured her! Wow… He took her wherever and whenever the mood stroked, and it was always so hot and sensual. Their sexual chemistry and their emotional chemistry were on point.
What we later clue in on is that there is someone else out to win Rebecca as well, and it’s none other than her dominant, arrogant boss, Maxwell. In a way, he reminded me of a much more obscene Christian Grey. He trampled over everything just to get to her. He was such a cold persona, but then there were times when he would show her, and only her, snippets of his warmer side, his genuine self. What bothered me the most about this character was his insistence in having Rebecca despite his marriage vows. As sexy and dominant as he was, that simple fact just made me hate him on the spot.
I have to say that there was a whole lot of mystery throughout the entire book. The story sort of only skimmed the surface. At times it went in a bit deep, but only barely, causing a lot of questions in my head. I was so confused! At all times there are three men in Rebecca’s head, and you just don’t know which one is the one she’s meant to be with. There’s so much longing between her and them, especially between her and Maxwell and Alain. We don’t get to know Rebecca fully, and we obviously don’t get to know the rest of the men fully either. But this only made me want more!
I should advice you all that this is a trilogy, and even though I knew this, I was still too surprised at the way it ended. Let’s just say, I ended up despising Alain and caring a bit more for Maxwell. And I just felt so sorry for Rebecca! I really connected with her at that point. She was completely fooled, and ended up being the loser. To conclude, I really liked this book! It sent me on quite a reading adventure. It was definitely a rollercoaster ride; the kind where you don’t know where you’ll end up, or how many turns it will take you through. I fell for every character, and then I unfell, and then I fell again. I absolutely loved this author’s way of writing, especially her way of describing scenes and things. For me, she used all the right words.
Rebecca is an Australian woman who has accepted an amazing job offer with a New York-based company although she will be working in France. Despite the job being everything she wants, the real bonus is that it gives her a way to put some serious distance between herself and an ex-lover who she has been in love with since high school. Rebecca meets Alain, a sexy Frenchman, on the plane and their attraction to one another quickly leads to an intense love affair. As Rebecca begins her new job and meets her new boss Maxwell Grant, she realizes that he is also very attractive man who wants her, and has a desire to make her his. Each potential relationship has its own serious challenges, and Rebecca needs to find a way to makes sure that she stays true to herself and doesn't get into a situation that will put her in the same relationship she just traveled across the globe to escape.
The hot stuff in this book is very hot! Alain is incredibly sexy, and it is easy to see how such an intense sexual relationship could start up with him so quickly. The two of them have great chemistry and it was nice to see them giving each other the things they needed.
Maxwell Grant is a strong powerful man, who is very attractive in his own right. It was nice to find out that there were some very redeeming qualities to him, because he is a harder character to decipher. One thing I did not like about him was the way he was jealous and possessive of Rebecca when on their first meeting he found out that she was seeing someone. I could understand having a strong attraction to her, but it didn't make sense that he would be shocked and angered that she was romantically attached. I didn't like the way he initially came on to her. It felt way too aggressive and seemed almost too unprofessional for his character. I'm still not sure exactly where I stand on his character, but my feelings did move from dislike to mixed. I look forward to seeing more of him in future books.
Rebecca was a fantastic character. She seems to have gotten to a point in her life where she really knows who she is, what she wants, and what she deserves. She's a smart woman who takes pride in her education and the good work she does. Her past relationship in Australia, although painful, left her with a knowledge of exactly what she would not tolerate again. The standards and boundaries she set up for herself were fantastic, and it was nice to see her standing up for those even when it was really hard for her to do so. She definitely deserves a relationship that is hers alone and where she isn't expected to be anyone's mistress. It was easy to feel a wide range of emotions while going through these experiences through Rebecca's perspective.
The only thing I really struggled with in this book was the timing of some of the intense feelings that the characters had for one another. I get instant attraction, but some of the instant feelings of deep love were a little over-the-top for me. That said, the book ended in a way that pretty much ensures the reader will be eagerly awaiting the next installment. The story takes some unexpected turns, and even though there are a lot of tough emotions at the end of this book, there is also a wonderful feeling as we see that Rebecca is a strong woman who will make sure she gets what she needs. I am excited to see what happens next!
Can I say that I wanna go to France, I want to kiss Jani, pick her brain, and worship her!? OMG OMG What the hell did you do to me WOMAN!???? This book is on F-I-R-E!! It was non-stop hotness.. MY HEART WENT INTO A FREE FALL FOR A SPLIT SECOND AS I GAZED DIRECTLY INTO ARTIC-BLUE EYES, THAT WERE STUDYING ME PENSIVELY. HIS GENEROUS LIPS, AS IF CARVED PERFECTLY BY A SCULPTOR, CURLED INTO A PANTY-WETTING SMILE. LORD,HAVE MERCY ON MY SOUL. HOW COULD I NOT HAVE NOTICED HIM BEFORE?" "FINALLY SHE NOTICED ME: THE HOT REDHEAD WITH THE TIGHT SKIRT AND AWESOME RACK. I HATED RUNNING BEHIND SCHEDULE. I'D CURSED UNDER MY BREATH, BLAMING HER FOR THE DELAY. SHE'D STUMBLED HER WAY TOWARD ME ON PRECARIOUS HEELS THAT ACCENTUATED HER SHAPELY LEGS, HER CHEEKS FLUSHED. HAULING HER HAND-LUGGAGE BEHIND HER, SHE'D IMPATIENTLY BLOWN A STRAND OF UNRULY HAIR OUT OF HER PRETTY FACE." Ok that is just the beginning on an AIRPLANE... now somethings were done on said airplane.. WOW that is the start of their HOT STEAMY AFFAIR. Maxwell Grant has everything, A hot model wife, Riches, people adoring him. Being the CEO of his company Maxwell has a fascination with Rebecca and wants to romance her.. the question is will she let him?.. The give and take between these 3 keeps you on your toes.. Will she? Lost in France is the second novel I’ve had the pleasure of reading from Jani Kay and I’m so happy to have been given the opportunity to review this book as I absolutely LOVED IT!
There is a lot of romance in this book which is very steamy from the get go. The attraction between Rebecca and Alain is instant however their love for one another gradually grows. This book is well written flows at a good pace and expresses a lot of emotion. The stories point of view is mainly Rebecca’s but does switch to Alain occasionally. I feel that it gives the reader a much better understanding of the characters this way.
These characters are extremely likeable and have you swooning, laughing, crying and wanting to punch them at some point, that’s one of the best things about this book. Rebecca is a fiery redhead, a strong determined woman who is good at her job. She wants a man to love, show her affection and a family of her own. Unfortunately she’s had bad luck in this department. Rebecca is very easy to relate to in her needs and wants in a relationship and her reactions to the situations she is placed in are very believable. Now we have Rebecca’s sexy Frenchman, Alain. His family comes from a long line of aristocrats and their winery business is a big part of his heritage. Unfortunately this heritage takes precedence over his love life. He is very easy to like, is sweet, caring and obviously adores Rebecca. He will have you swooning. Then we have Rebecca’s boss Maxwell. He is a strong determined man and works hard for what he wants. A likeable man even though he can be quite forceful and demanding at times.
This is the first book in the Firebird Trilogy and the ending leaves you in tears. Happy or sad tears I will not elaborate, but it has been left open in such a way to make for an interesting second book.
I would recommend this book to those who are fans of the Crossfire Series by Sylvia Day.
This was an interesting story, Rebecca starts the story by moving away from home for eight months to escape her boyfriend Julian. It's not clear for a great deal of the book why, having been with him for so long, she feels the need to escape, especially when she seems to love him so much, but it does come out in the story and I totally agree with her reasoning, she's making some tough decisions.
Before she has landed in Paris she has had a sexual encounter on the plain with sexy french bachelor Alain. He pretty much takes over her life as soon as they land and she falls in love, or perhaps a better word would be lust, with him. Turns out he's heir to a wine estate and rich as anything, tired of being an eligible bachelor he wants to settle down with Rebecca but he has obligations to his family estate and title that mean he has to marry someone French.
Enter the new boss, Maxwell, who's married to a super thin beautiful model. He obviously has strong feelings for Elizabeth, but she refuses to get involved with a married man. In fact at the start of the book she thinks she hates him.
As dashing and exotic as Alain is part of me wants her to find a way to be with Maxwell. Alain is insanely jealous, very controlling and will never be allowed to marry her. There's just the small matter of Maxwell's wife to figure out. There has to be a story in there somewhere.
I wouldn't say the book ends on a cliffhanger, it was an unexpected ending, and it leaves a lot of questions to be answered, opening the way for the second book, but it did end a part of the story.
I like Rebecca, despite how quickly she entered into the relationship with Alain I didn't feel she was loose, she actually came across as someone who thought deeply before committing to a relationship, I think she is being asked to make decisions she's not ready to make at a time when she is still very vulnerable.
I'll definitely be adding future books to my To Be Read list, I want to know what happens next in her journey.
4.5 stars. Wow, lots of hot men in this book, too bad they are all forbidden in some way. Rebecca was such a likable heroine, someone who was experiencing a true heartbreak and starting anew elsewhere. She meets Alain on the plane flight to France and oh my, he is all about seduction and sensuousness. It's not hard for Rebecca to fall into lust with Alain. Heck, I fell for Alain, too, he is romantic and charming and all about pleasing Rebecca with words and gestures. Then Maxwell Grant enters the book and he is scorching hot and brooding and an overall enigma. It's hard to get a good read on Max because he doesn't share what's on his mind or explain why he's so attracted to Rebecca when he shouldn't be. It's bad enough that he's her boss but there's another issue, too. Even though Max doesn't have a major presence throughout the book, each encounter with Rebecca is significant in some way that lights up those pages. There's a definite magnetism between them, even if it's fueled by love-hate, but they both feel it. Rebecca isn't going to let feelings dictate her when there are obvious lines drawn in the sand because she's been there and done that with loving a man she couldn't have and doesn't want to go through that again. I'm glad she stuck to her guns but at the same time, I'm so intrigued by Max that he sort of put Alain off the radar whenever he was in her presence and that's hard to do! Alain is wonderful for so many reasons, but he has his own obstacles to deal with that may or may not include Rebecca as part of the future. While there's a strong attraction and allure between Alain and Rebecca, I got the vibe that whatever is brewing between Max and Rebecca is deeper, a connection where they can see into each other if they allow the other to do so and it's not the kind of connection that can be ignored. There's still a lot to learn about Max and I'm really hoping to see a lot more of him in the next book to understand him better, but I also want to see Alain step it up and fight for her. Rebecca deserves to be someone's everything.
Lost in France (Firebird Trilogy #1) By: Jani Kay 5/5 stars
So I picked up this book after I had read the prequel and book 1 in the Scorpio Stinger MC series by Jani Kay, where we met the heroine of this story, Rebecca briefly when she went to visit her cousin Jade in California. Grant, Rebecca’s new boss, had asked his blood brother, Ryder, to keep an eye on her and to keep her safe. I’m really glad that I did!! Jani Kay spun such a story, that I felt as if I was Rebecca, feeling her emotions, the love and the turmoil, and the heartbreaking decisions that she had to make.
Rebecca has been dealt a terrible hand and terrible taste in men. She is leaving her native Australia for a brand new job in France for a global company. It was a heartbreaking decision that she had to make, but she did it for herself. Julian was her high school and college sweetheart, who made a bad decision and cost them the future that they had planned. Even though he is married, he wanted to keep Rebecca on the line.
She meets an uber-sexy Frenchman, Alain de Bois, who makes an immediate connection, and forms a relationship. And it is super-hot, sexy and erotic!! He takes pleasure in giving her pleasure and playing a private tour guide and showing the attractions of France. But as a winemaker who has a title, there are familial expectations and he is hiding a secret.
Grant Maxwell, the CEO and Rebecca’s employer, who is attracted to her and has also taken a liking to her, also happens to be married…to a supermodel. He wants Rebecca, and lets her know, but she refuses because of her relationship with Alain and because he is also married. He also dislikes her relationship with Alain, and has no qualms in letting her know.
There are twists and turns and I don’t want to give any spoilers! I’m looking forward to the next book in this trilogy and see what is next for Rebecca!!
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
Lost in France was a rollercoaster ride, but a rollercoaster ride I’d get on any time, and I’m not sure what to say without giving too much of the book away. When I get excited, I have a tendency to give out to much information, so I’ll try to keep this short and sweet.
Rebecca is trying to get out of Australia to get away from her long time lover Julian, but that’s just when the fun begins. She accepts a job in France by CEO Maxwell Grant, where she thinks she can start a new life, but little does she know what about to happen. Shortly after she arrives in France, she meets the heartthrob Alain, they have an instant attraction that neither expected.
Then there was Maxwell, the very wealthy and very married, CEO she works for. She feels hatred towards him from the beginning, so she was shocked when she finds out that he is attracted to her. Why would he be, his wife is one of the most gorgeous models in the world! Even though she hated Maxwell, there was always that attraction she wasn’t ever able to deny.
With all this man candy around, it’s hard for Rebecca to distinguish the difference between love and lust. I mean who wouldn’t be confused? With everything that Rebecca has to go through she has to quick learn if love is worth giving up her destiny, or if it can over come barriers that are impossible to knock down?
Throughout the book you are constantly wondering what it going to happen between Rebecca and the men in her life. I will say, I don’t want to wait until the next book comes out to find out, I want to know now! I will be looking forward to more from Jani Kay, she just has a way of writing that just sucks you into her story.
This is a new author for me, so I was excited to dive into this bundle of alpha men.
Rebecca Clarke is fleeing her homeland Australia for a new executive job in France. Her world has been smashed and she’s running away.
She meets a divine Frenchman on the plane, Alain du Bois, who recognises her distress immediately, and goes about trying to cheer her up in a most intimate way.
The pace moves quickly as Alain offers to be Rebecca’s tour guide whilst she takes a few days holiday before her job starts. She soon forgets her heartache when she’s got a charming, seductive, dirty talking Frenchman to occupy her body and mind.
What Rebecca doesn’t anticipate is the immediate possessiveness of her new boss, Maxwell Grant. His obvious dislike of her unavailability to him, his forwardness and calculating behaviour, and the fact that he is married, only strengthen her very negative opinion of the man.
I’m in a quandary about how to describe the impression this book made on me. I liked the characters very much. Rebecca was a natural firebird, who commanded respect in the boardroom, yet wasn’t afraid to use her feminine charm in the bedroom.
Alain was a protective sweetheart, who fell hard for Rebecca, and his character was strong and very real.
We were only really starting to see a different side to Maxwell and his initial arrogance, and there is obviously more to his story.
I think my discomfort is with the story telling. I found the untold sex scenes rather repetitive, and at times the narrative was a tad flowery for my taste.
I did like this story, and would continue to read on, given the state we are left in at the end.
