Jaret may be a paramedic, but that doesn’t mean he lets the everyday horrors he sees keep him down. Every day is a reason to party, and he always loves to be the center of attention. When he finds out that his new partner is Wells, the stuffy medic in the company, Jaret is less than thrilled.
But the longer they work together, the more Jaret finds himself drawn to Wells. Wells, on the other hand, seems not to even notice that Jaret is there. Will Jaret be able to attract Wells’ attention? Or do opposites really distract?

The EMS Heat series is definitely a serious with big up and downs. While most installments are solid three star reads, some can’t keep up and you never know what you are in for. STAT is definitely one of the best parts in the series – I immediately fell in love with the two main characters. They would have made great main characters for a full length story.
Jaret is a medic full of energy and he can’t keep out of trouble. He loves to party and he is used to be in the center of attention. When Wells who is entirely focused on work and has absolutely no understanding for Jaret’s lifestyle is paired up with that particular paramedic, he is sure that they won’t be able to survive one shift in each other’s company.
However, opposites are known to attract and Jaret might not be the person he wants other to believe he is. I definitely liked the way they suddenly felt attracted to each other and the plotline focusing on the new drug going around in Flint was quite interesting. It was also quite interesting to read about Jaret and his brother and the way their unhealthy relationship influenced Jaret’s life.
I would love to meet these two again in some of the upcoming stories.
I adore this series about doctors, firefighters and EMS workers and inhale every new book in the series, but this one is my least favorite so far. The book was too short to adequately flesh out the characters, the characteristics of the MCs was very cliche and the ending didn't even include one of the MCs. It just wasn't very satisfying. Sorry, can't recommend this one, but, if you're like me and love this series as much as I do, you'll probably read it anyway. :)
This was a bit boring to me.No declarations of love which i always looked forward to in this series. Hmmmm... I hope it won't be like this in the future..
This was unfortunately for me only a 2 star read. I've been reading this series from the beginning and I've really enjoyed it, some books more than others yes, but any of them more than this one.
So where did my brain get derailed. Let's start with our MC's Jaret (a little unusual namewise, but I'm cool with that. In fact I like unusual names) Jaret has a brother named Leo, this is code talk for 24 year old leach. Seems Leo doesn't work, he's trying to find a job but the economy is tough and really finding a job when you sleep all day and then go out partying all night becomes a whole lot tougher, he lost his mother and father, hello Jaret weren't they your parents too? Heaven forbid Jaret should tell him to put on his big boy pants and get his schtick together, no best to hand him a fistful of money so he can go partying and Jaret can sit at home after having worked all day and hold pity parties for himself. I'm sure that Jaret was suppose to seem like the amazing, self sacrificing big brother; to me he came off as that sucker that P.T. Barnum says is born every minute. Then we have Wells, now I'm sure he has a first name it just wasn't used a lot and everyone called him Wells so that's what stuck in my brain. I think I could have liked him, if there had been a bit more storyline for his personality to come through, see he was shy. Everyone mistook Wells for being a stuck up Brit snob but turns out it was his shyness and a bit of insecurity, this for was at least believable.
So the next place where my brain derailed was the chemistry between the MC's. I just didn't feel it and when Wells was suddenly doing the nasty with Jester instead of Jaret part way through their big, first time sex scene...wait...Jester? Who the hell is Jester? Oh never mind he's gone Jaret's back, I lost it and I tried so hard to stick with it. I was waiting for undying proclamations of love anything to help create some kind of afterglow, mellow mood. Hell Jaret jumping up and screaming "Jester? Who the hell is Jester and where did he come from?" would have been better than what I got, because what I got was "So do you want to get together tomorrow and have a repeat?" WOW!!! Talk about undying protestations of love, I melted on the spot...not.
On the positive side baby brother, Leo, did get his schtick together after he had a bit of a life altering experience and as he lay nearly dying he realized he'd been a douche to his big brother and he was going to change and make Jaret proud of him. In the words of Shania, "That don't impress me much."
I wanted to like this story, I wanted to enjoy it as much as the rest of the EMS Heat series but I just couldn't. I could see the story the author was telling, I just couldn't connect with it and that made me sad. Maybe next time.
The usual. Standard plot elements and characterization. Too short, not detailed enough. Nothing surprising.
I'm going to guess that the next book (if there is one) will have Dallas and someone else. I spent the whole book being confused because I thought Dallas already had a book, but I checked...it seems that was Houston. Oops. They're both cities in Texas, so easy to mis-remember.
Nothing like an EMS Heat book to cap an exhausting day. STAT is the newest in this series, and just like any of the books previously published, it never fails to amaze me that this continues to entertain.
Wills is a great character. That prank he pulled on the nurse was a story I had to read out to the kids and their father. Of course doing so in the middle of lunch was not a good thing as this sent some things off where they were supposed to be at. Jaret on the other hand, he was just a quiet, shy and highly misjudged by those around him. It took Wills reading an MM story to get him out of his shell. That alone was enough to get me laughing.
Any book in the EMS Heat is a light read, and it is just one of those that does not take any one reader on the uberdramatic road, no matter how intense or dramatic the blurb may make it sound. This is just of those series that I have followed from the first time I got hooked into this genre. As it revolves around the medical community, it is obvious why I continue to follow it.
So there you go. If you want to have a good night's rest, get to dream land rested, entertained and satisfied, STAT is one to take to bed with you.
Just like the previous books in the series. If you know what to expect you'd probably enjoy this one too, it's no better and no worse, than the others.
Synopsis: Jaret is a paramedic, and he doesn't want the seriousness of what he sees at work to rule his life, so he parties. Wells takes life seriously and doesn't understand why Jaret can't do the same thing. When the two of them become partners, they dislike each other and their work styles do not mesh.
What I liked: that even though this was a short story, both MCs didn't fall instantly in love with each other. I liked that Jaret had to earn Wells' respect and his friendship. I liked that the two seemed to balance each other, both at work and in their personal lives.
What I didn't like: there wasn't really any time for them to get to know one another, let alone develop a serious lasting tendre (that I could believe) for each other.
I'm sad that I'm not able to give this book a higher rating. EMS heat is a series that I really enjoy, having read it three times. This new installment is not long enough, I missed the banter between characters. I especially miss the other characters that we've grown to love. Matt Shaw is absent in this book. Lucas is present but barely. After finishing the book I felt robbed of not having more information on the characters. Once upon a time, Wells and Jaret did not like each other. They got stuck working together, decided to try to go out, developed a relationship, moved in together. The end!
ANY man who says " Alrighty Then..." during sex will be removed from my bedroom. ...apparently the author believes all British ppl are awkward during sex. .. The crappy sex aside the book wasn't horrible it wasn't good. These books used to be cute sexy quick reads. I was excited a new book has come out but disappointed in what I read. The characters were cute and had so much potential! This author seems to be very much hit or miss....
I enjoy this series for the lightness in which difficult subjects are broached - not ignored, but not handled in an overly angst-ridden way. Although there is a serious problem faced by the characters, there is still a happy ending coming.
Jaret toning down his jokester ways was just what he needed to land Wells as a wonderful partner in more ways than one. I truly liked Wells' character and how shy he seemed up until the night he came to Jarets apartment to watch a movie. I really don't like Leo, even after the ending I just don't like him.
I liked this one, but it wasn't as good as the others in this series for me. A lot of grammatical issues with this one, and I thought the turn around of the characters behavior towards each other seemed a little quick.
