G. K. Chesterton was an amazing man, and I am heartily looking forward to meeting him in heaven. This biography was a tough read, but I appreciate the author's desire to tell Chesterton's story while putting him into context. I found much of the British history and politics confusing, but I am better equipped now to understand Chesterton's writing. He is definitely an interesting character, full of creativity and a highly prolific author, loyal to his friends through thick and thin. I love reading about people like this who are drawn to God and find in Him the end of all their searching.

First half was 2/5, second half got better (3/5), but the last 25-30 pages was 5/5.

Overall pretty uneven, but I could read Chesterton and ABOUT Chesterton all day/ 'er day 👍👍👍

This was an obviously well-researched and well-documented biography that has been painstakingly and lovingly written. The book starts out strong and grows in richness and insight, until it reaches the political life of Chesterton at witch point it starts to stall and loose its momentum. As far as my interests in Chesterton, I was more interested in his place in Christian apologetics and as a Christian debater and spokesman than the details of the comings and goings of British politics in the early 1900s. But overall this work really shows how Chesterton is a true giant of the twenty century, both as a writer and as an influential literary figure, especially in the area of British Christianity, where his influence and inspiration ranges from T. S. Elliot to Dorothy Sayers to C. S. Lewis to countless current writers. But Chesterton's true genius lies in taking some Christian truth or doctrine and re-stating it into some sharp and poignant way, which perfectly captures it in a way which shows it for the logical and wonderful truth it is.

Good, solid biography of Chesterton's life. The author suggests that Chesterton set the stage for the Catholic literary revival of the 20th century influencing authors like Evelyn Waugh, Graham Greene, etc. Great insight. Someone should write a book on that topic. The author also explains the various political dynamics at work in England at this time, which helps explain Chesterton's political position as an old school liberal rather than a conservative.

This is the epitome of biographical writing. If one wants to know Chesterton--well-rounded, well-balanced, with a writer with the wisdom to not have the last word--this is it.
