Merrick Drake.

Bartender, dirt bike racer, and far from settling down…until that one race, and that one girl that changed everything.

Amelia Driscoll.

Amelia took Merrick by surprise, bringing out emotions that he never knew existed. Amelia stole his heart…

Only to break it.

When fate puts Merrick and Amelia back together, it doesn’t come without a price- it comes with vengeance, determination, and putting his life on the line for the one he loves.

But, how much is Merrick willing to put on the line to have a future with no reason to hide? In the end, fate will decide...

Who's permanent.

Some words, a disclaimer, from Merrick Drake, himself:

I’m just going to put it out there…I’m sorry I’m a f*cking pussy at the beginning of this book. It isn’t any secret, Amelia burned me bad—like motherf*cking, stab me in the heart, leave me lying there by myself bad, but dammit, I wouldn’t change anything if I was ever given the chance. You’ll see that Amelia is damn near perfect and worth every second of misery she put me through. If you find yourself saying, “Jesus Christ, this guy needs to grow a set!” I don’t blame you, but just keep reading. I redeem myself pretty damn well, if I do say so myself, but beware, because holy $hit do things get intense! Enjoy reading, my friends—my life is a whole clusterf*ck of crazy, but somehow it all comes full circle by the end.

When I read the blurb for this book, I was so bloody excited -- my kind of book when you have hot biker in it.

 photo tumblr_inline_mor8reG1Po1qz4rgp.gif

Sadly, this book really didn't work for me. This book was filled with drama and I didn't like those drama. In a way, it didn't attract me to read much. I started skimming by the mid of the book.
The writing was easy to read but the plot was simply confusing.

Drake is the man, a bad ass biker and he meets Amelia who is another racer too. He immediately falls in love with her. He pursued her and then next day she goes missing. He keeps pinning her until one day she re-appears again.

Well, why was she hiding and will he be able to win her heart?

Hope this books works better for you. *fingers crossed*

I just wish Drake was a bad-ass biker until the end.... The author kinda turned into the love-sick one, and he lost his mojo!

Happy reading. Off to grab my tea.

Permanent Lines for me is, definitely a book of two halves.

I really struggled with the first 45% or so of the book. Don't get me wrong it isn't badly written, but it is written from Merrick's point of view, and quite a few times I actually forgot that it was a guys voice and POV, as it all felt very effeminate even with the f-bomb thrown in regularly.

Although you do get a disclaimer at the beginning sort of warning you of it, so I was kind of prepared!

Merrick - "I’m just going to put it out there…I’m sorry I’m a f*cking pussy at the beginning of this book. Enjoy reading, my friends—my life is a whole clusterf*ck of crazy, but somehow it all comes full circle by the end."

It was also difficult to believe that a guy who has never had a relationship before, then thinks he has fallen in love with a woman that he has spent less than 48 hours with.Then end up pining for her for two months, although that doesn't stop him nearly taking another woman to bed, and then dating another after that!

Merrick - "She was an accident I couldn't look away from."

I honestly think the first half of the story would have benefited from Amelia's POV, I think it could have added to the intrigue, and maybe balance out and give the reader some more insight into the "connection" that Merrick kept going on about.

The second half more than made up for the first though, it was pretty full throttle from then on, what with Amelia's reason for leaving, and the fall-out from her return to Merrick, I was pulled right in and ended up staying up past my bedtime just to finish it.

This is an entertaining, solid read. I wasn't blown away, but the originality of the story and likeability of the characters kept me interested enough to finish it. I would happily read another book by Ashley Wilcox and would like to thank her for providing me with a copy of Permanent Lines for review.

Well, this book was something else to write. It had elements in it that I never intended to write, but happened anyway. Both Merrick and Amelia are challenging characters. They both are edgy with unique personalities. I couldn't just write a happy, go lucky romance novel about them, and I didn't- not even close. For the first time in Merrick's life he is questioned, feeling a tornado of emotions that he can't control. As much as he tries to get Amelia out of his head, it's impossible. And then there's Amelia… she's very sweet, but…well, I can't really tell you the "but" because what fun would that be?!? But she does come with a whole slew of baggage, which is going to have Merrick thinking and figuring out, are the feelings he holds for Amelia worth it- is fighting for a second go at their relationship one that he can handle?? I will be completely honest with you guys… there's no crazy twist, nothing that you will say to yourself, "I totally didn't see that coming," BUT there is a WHOLE LOT that happens. Angst, suspense, heartwarming, steamy love…yup!! There's a whole lot of that! Actually, I may want to put a little warning out there… Merrick's mouth is intense, and there's some graphic scenes, so I would probably recommend a mature audience for this one ;)

-Update-
Well….I said there was no really BIG twist, but after having my husband and others read it, apparently there are, and is. So yes, Permanent Lines has a twist ;)

Oh, and did I mention Merrick is HOT?!?! {{Fanning myself}} I just may have a crush on him…still!

Happy reading!

Well if you love drama, suspense and steam then grab this book! It is a continuation of Running From Forever. If you didn't read it, then buy it NOW!

Filled with the characters from Running, staring Merrick Drake. This is a bit of a change for the author, whom I adore, it is loaded with suspense. Normally Amelia Driscoll is quiet, keeps a low profile, and loves to ride a dirt bike. She has been with a loser who controls her, until Merrick. They spend a weekend together and he is done. I have never read a male character so totally taken by a woman. His words are expressive, deep, and female sounding!

Poor Merrick is caught up in Amelia and he literally counts the days without her. His somewhat journal entries are painful. He is losing control so the people around him are concerned with his nonstop depression without his mystery girl. Kayla tries a few times without luck to get him on a date. He himself tries a few unsuccessful hookups.

We get to see Miles and Kayla from the previous book. Finally Kayla is happy and adjusted. Miles was very arrogant through the beginning parts of this book. Then Miles steps up and wow I am in love with him. He has control, attitude and money to back it all up. It was a great book from beginning to end. It is loaded with angst, mafia dealings, suspense, love and friendship.

wow I'm so proud of Ashley and the A team

She was the one that got away.

Amelia Driscoll was an enigma. After 48 hours of spending amazing time together – her stealing his heart and soul, she was nowhere to be found. It was like she didn’t exist at all, and no matter how much he tried to go back to the dating scene – it wasn’t as palatable as before. All he wanted was Amelia.

Their paths crossed unexpectedly, but it comes with a price – DANGER. Not only for him, but for the people that surrounds him as well. How much is he willing to risk for love?

It started out with me…

I have been warned but nothing REALLY prepared me for it. How can Merrick Drake possibly redeem himself after several chapters of being a p*ssy? Good thing I kept on reading, with my curiosity getting piqued along the way. How can they possibly meet again? Why did she disappear? What was her deal? Will Merrick find the love of his life? So many questions…

When he finally found her – I can’t believe what he had gotten himself into… It was one heck of a surprise that was totally worth waiting for. I didn’t see it coming and I was wondering how would he extract himself from it WITH the girl and still ALIVE. Good thing he has friends in the right places who is willing to help him…

Then the suspense and thrill of the chase begun as he fights not just for the girl but for his life and the life of the people that matters to him… A deadly poker game, one chance, ultimate risk all for LOVE. You have totally redeemed yourself, Merrick Drake.

You need to be patient because you will be rewarded greatly. Ashley Wilcox had given me the surprise of my life. Thank goodness I stick long enough to wait for it. This book had taken me off the edge with the suspense, the intensity of emotion, and a good dash of adrenaline to spice up my afternoon.

Let me just start off by saying - Ashley Wilcox is an amazing writer!!!

We first met Merrick Drake in Running from Forever. It isnt really necessary for you to read the previous Forever series books in order to read this one but I would definitely recommend you doing so. Ashley's Forever series is one not to be missed. Also in doing so you will have a lot better of an understanding of Kayla and Merricks friendship. If you have read her previous books you'll know she writes some pretty happy romances with a little angst. Well, this is a complete opposite of those. This book has lots of angst... Murder, Mob Bosses, Underground Illegal activity, steamy sex & lots of love. I was very pleased with the outcome because it wasn't too over the top or too much angst. Ive read the book twice because I always seem to pick up more the second time. And I wanted to feel that I did justice to this book on a review.

Now as for the Characters.

Oh, Merrick how I love thee. This book starts off from Merricks POV and at times you feel he's a little feminine - which he has an apology letter at the beginning explaining this. For myself personally until I found out why Amelia ripped his heart out - I very much disliked her. But, she thankfully redeemed herself. You also get a bit of Miles (swoon) and Kayla - her and Merrick are very close and there is some major tension yet understanding between Miles and Merrick which if you read Running From Forever you will have a full understanding.

I can't say enough positive things about this book. Ashley did not disappoint with this one. The character development was awesome, story flowed smoothly, plot was executed perfectly and just enough angst to keep you on the edge of your seat. I devoured this book in one sitting because I had to know what happened. This book left me wanting more - I'd love to get a novella of the previous characters or a glimpse into Merrick and Amelias future.

I have read everything from this author and I will continue to do so in the future.

*This book was given to me for a fair and honest review*
Merrick Drake lives hard and loves hard. When he falls for fellow racer Amelia he does not realize how much his life is going to change. Disappearing from his life after an incredible weekend together, Merrick can not get her out of his head. Doing everything he can to find her and make her his may cost him not only her love but his life, as well.

Merrick is a sexy man. Granted, I did think he was an idiot the first several chapters of the book. Who in the hell would pine over a woman that he only spent one sexy weekend with? I am glad I persevered to see the real man that Merrick is – loyal, tender, protective and fierce. Definitely a man I did not mind spending the day with while I read Permanent Lines ;-)

The one small part of Permanent Lines that I found myself truly disliking UNTIL I finished (after that my opinion changed for the positive) was Merrick’s quick, unquestioning love for Amelia without even knowing her. I felt like he fell for the outside and the not inside – what really made Amelia the person she was – did not matter to him as much as how sexy she was in his bed.

I liked Amelia surprisingly. She is not my typical female character that I tend towards but her brave attitude and love for Merrick won me over.

The suspense of the storyline is what really kept me reading. I found myself flipping page after page, reading as fast as I could to discover the conclusion. It was a hell of a ride!

Have you ever wondered what guys think about a girl they like a lot? Yeah me too. I was pleasantly surprised that this book is all in a male perspective. While I liked that, I just sort of felt that Merrick was lacking. Lacking what? I couldn't put my finger on it. Kind of like tasting sweet frosting but something is off and leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.

Merrick is a motocross star who gears up for a race only to find a rich girl named Amelia is also racing, he quickly finds that this girl can most certainly hold her own. I enjoyed that! So I was like ooooh yeah this is gonna be good. They have a week-end trist and then boom she's gone.

Okay, well that is interesting, I mean its usually the dude that just up and leaves. I think well maybe she just felt things she hadn't before and got scared. Um... no and yes. I can't give away the story but it did have me wanting to find out why she left? what was going to happen next and oh my gawd did she just say what I think she did?

While I did like that it was told in Merrick's POV the entire time, I just couldn't get over what a pussy he was. Like he kept whining over this chick. I mean you do get a disclaimer in the beginning but I still wasn't expecting that. I think I am used to Alpha males who wont take any shit from anyone. I get he fell for her but geez dude.

In the end the book was enjoyable and a bit far fetched but that is the great thing about reading they are fantasy, an escape. Far fetched or not his love for this girl shows in all his actions and reactions.

We first met Merrick Drake in Running from Forever, he is best friends with Kayla and now we get to read about him :)

Merrick loves his dirt bike riding, he owns his own bar & lives in the apartment above it. He is pretty damn sexy to look at too.

Merrick is down at the track getting ready for his race and jumps out in front as soon as the race begins. After the fourth lap it is between him and one other rider, he thrives on this sort of competition and it makes getting first place more rewarding. The winner is too close to call and while he waits for the result his competitor pulls up and takes their helmet off - Amelia Driscoll.

Merrick is blown away by her riding skill but is completely taken in by how beautiful she is. He invites her back to the bar for drinks, desperate to spend more time with her. What follows is a weekend of sexy bliss. Merrick completely falls for her. Then she simply disappears.

Merrick is left broken hearted and determined to find her. He eventually does and Amelia reveals to him the reason why she left and why she can't be with him. Merrick wants to help her but her life and the people in it are very dangerous people and he is putting everything at risk if he chooses to go with his heart. Is it really worth it though?

This is a story about how far someone will go to protect the person that they love.

We've all heard the phrase "2nd half team" when talking about pretty much any sport. You know the team that comes out in the first 1/2 of the game and plays ok but not really hard enough to win. Then they come back in the second 1/2 and own the other team. Well, this book is a lot like that.

The first half is a lot of Merrick just describing how depressed he is since Amelia just up and left him, after a whole weekend of apparent perfection. I just wasn't feeling Merrick as much here as I did in Running From Forever.

It wasn't until about 45% in that things picked up. I think it was important to have all the secondary characters come into play to really bring the story alive. The reasoning for Amelia just walking away from Merrick were explained clearly and that pretty much dominated the second 1/2 of the book. Lots of drama, suspense and action.

This wasn't really the type of book I usually enjoy and it didn't blow me away but it wasn't bad. It was just ok for me because of the plot, it just isn't something I'm into and it seemed a little over the top at times. The writing was good and I think a lot of other readers will really enjoy it.

This was received as an ARC so no spoilers! Sorry y'all!

I gave this four stars only because I really didn't like how annoying Merrick was in the beginning... So Goodluck getting through the first half of the book!

Then finally, something happens, or rather you reach the climax of the book and it's just like falling off a cliff, you can't stop reading!

I loved it! After the climax; it seemed WAY to easy to bring down a certain bad guy, but it completely made sense on how it was so easy so it didn't deter my happy, kickass, "loving this story" feelings! I've read a lot of books where that would have never happened, so yeah. It's good, and not at all anywhere near dark and gritty, and I think anyone could really enjoy this book, thus, the four stars!

This book also had some pretty steam worthy moments too! Great and fast read! I read it in less than four hours!

I received an ARC of Permanent Lies as a part of the release day blog tour.

This story reminds me of how far a person will go to be with the one that they love. Merrick Drake is a bartender at the very bar that he owns. His other passion is dirt bike racing. Merrick Drake lives in the apartment above his bar. Merrick was never interested in settling down, he was absolutely content with having a good night with a girl and moving on. No strings attached. He was not what one would call a womanizer...he treats the girls with respect, of course. Merrick felt that he had everything that he wanted out of life until the day he competed in a dark bike race. It was the day that changed his priorities and perceptions on life...it was the day that he met Amelia Driscoll.

At first Amelia was more of an annoyance. Merrick viewed Amelia as a spoiled rich girl with a new hobby. I mean come on...a girl racing dirt bikes? Her voice was nails on a chalk board to Merrick. Then, Merrick got the opportunity to really look at Amelia and that was all it took. At first it was her eyes..is aqua really an eye color?

Shaken by his instant attraction towards this mysterious girl, he had to clear his thoughts for the race that was about to begin. As always, Merrick was in the lead, but there was a component on his tail. The race was too close to call..The racer pulled up along side him and removed their helmet. What happened next completely surprised Merrick. It was Amelia that almost claimed his title. This alone sent Merrick need and want for Amelia into overdrive. Not only was Amelia beautiful, but she was a bad ass dirt bike racer. Merrick was determined to get to know her so he invited Amelia to his bar for the celebratory party in honor of his win.

After Merrick introduced Amelia to his friends he felt possessive, he felt that he needed to claim her. His friends comments about Amelia's appearance actually bothered him. After spending the night hanging out at the bar Merrick invited Amelia up to his place. They spent an amazing weekend together. Then Amelia was gone. Merrick tried relentlessly to contact Amelia after she departed to no avail and nothing...it was almost like that week they shared together never existed. Merrick was not accustomed to these new feelings and didn't know how to handle it especially since Amelia was not contacting him. Merrick felt that Amelia was avoiding him. How could he have such strong feelings for her, but the feeling wasn't mutual. Merrick couldn't cope with the idea of these feelings being one sided. However as the days, weeks, and months passed he knew that he needed to move on. Merrick tried to move on, but he couldn't bring himself to follow through, Amelia was not only haunting his dreams, but also interfering with pursuing a relationship with other women. Merrick was at a loss. He needed answers that he thought he would never receive.

Merrick's best friend persuaded him to meet a girl. She ended up being great. She was everything that he could hope for, but she was not Amelia. Then, as fate would have it their world collided once again, but what happened next was a chain reaction that would soon turn his life upside-down. How far one one go to be with the person they love? In this story you will find out just how much Merrick will sacrifice in order to be with the girl that stole his heart. Amelia has a complicated life that makes her unattainable, but Merrick will stop at nothing to make Amelia his once and for all.

You must read Permanent Lies to find out Merrick and Amelia's journey and what fate has in store for them. You don't want to miss this thrill ride!

** review for BareNakedWords **

This is a story of how one man will go to any lengths to be with the woman he loves no matter what the cost. Through determination, love and a small group of family/friends Merrick Drake will prove that he is the right man for Amelia Driscoll and no-one can stand in the way of that.

“No matter the storm that surrounded us, we would survive. We would still stand, untouched and perfectly fine.
We were permanent”

Merrick Drake is a gorgeous, tattooed bar owner who has a passion for dirt bikes. He owns the race track and loves the thrill that racing and winning gives him. It’s during a race where he meets Amelia Driscoll. The aqua-eyed beauty who nearly stole the win from Merrick. He is completely blown away by her skills on a bike and finds himself wanting to spend more time with her.

Spending a weekend with Amelia was all it took for Merrick to fall hard for Amelia. The connection he felt was nothing he had ever experienced before and wants to explore them further. However, she slips out without so much of a word. Changed her phone number, and completely disappeared.

Merrick is left devastated. Trying to move on proves to be difficult for him when she consumes most of his thoughts.

“I couldn’t believe I was letting her get to me, allowing her to consume my brain again when I had a hot, willing and ready female spread eagle in front of me. But I couldn’t. I couldn’t think about anything but her. It was her...again...”

“I was a fucking tool when it came to Amelia. Seeing her again might kill me. God, when did I turn into such a pussy?”

A couple of months later, Merrick comes face to face with Amelia. What’s the first thing he does? Run...He can’t face her, not after she stole his heart and ripped it out. After a heart to heart, well more of an ultimatum from his best friend Kayla he decides he has to find her and get her back.

“I was going to find her. I was going to find out what the hell happened and I was going to make her mine again. I didn’t care what it fucking took, Amelia Driscoll was mine and I would damn make sure that nothing ever changed that or stood in my way.”

Amelia has a lot of questions to answer and when she does reveal those answers...by god, it is so much more than Merrick could imagine.

They’re world and relationship is about to be turned upside down. But Merrick is determined to fight for his love, for Amelia.

“You do realize how stupid you are for loving me, right?” she asked, a smirk appearing on her face.
“Baby, I would never argue the fact. I’ve been a stupid fuck my whole life; no need to change that now.
Her smirk changed to a smile. “Well, good, because you’re the stupidest asshole I’ve ever met.”

But that love has to come at a price. And just how far of a price is Merrick willing to pay to be with Amelia?

“No matter what I had to do, I was doing it, even if I was over my head...there wasn’t another option.”

I really enjoyed reading Merrick and Amelia’s story. It’s told completely from Merrick’s POV which is a new thing for me. Yes I’ve read male POV’S before but normally as a 2nd book in a series, never as a standalone. It was a good change.

He is a bit of a pansy in the beginning but don’t let that stop you from reading on. The second half of the book is full of suspense and angst to fill a whole book. It will keep you at the edge of your seat and turning the pages until you get to the end. Even then I wanted to read on.

It’s definitely I book that I would recommend and would read more books by Ashley.

I had the pleasure of beta reading this book last month. I was surprised to see how suspenseful the story was. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I had read Running From Forever which introduced Merrick Drake for the first time. He stole the spotlight in that book and I fell in love.

Despite this having a suspenseful edge to it, the story does revolve around Merrick and Amelia. I loved seeing how they connected so deeply. There wasn't that annoying and unrealistic insta-love that we see a lot of in Romance novels.

The book has gone through major changes since I first read it, but I have no doubt it just got better. I'll be reading it again this weekend, and I'll update if I love it any less... But don't count on that! :)

This is a must-add to your TBR!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UPDATED REVIEW:
(Official review posted during blog tour)
Be aware that Merrick does act like a "pussy-whipped" guy at the beginning of this novel. He explains it before the novel starts. Some may say he acts like a girl, I say he acts like a man in love. A man who has met his soulmate and then had her leave him high and dry without any explanation. A man who yearns for his love to return to him, but is left to mope around all alone.
I had the pleasure of beta reading this book, as I am part of Ashley's "A-Team". Having read Ashley's previous works, I was surprised to see how suspenseful this story was. It was different from anything she's done before.
I had read Running From Forever which introduced Merrick Drake for the first time. He stole the spotlight in that book and I fell in love. While Permanent Lines is a stand alone, I would actually recommend reading Running From Forever prior to P.L. There are references to certain past events that only make sense if you've read R.F.F. It allows the reader to have a deeper connection to the characters as well.
Permanent Lines had me on the edge of my seat waiting for things to be revealed and taken care of. Despite having a suspenseful edge to it, the story does revolve around Merrick and Amelia. I loved seeing how they connected so deeply. They do have somewhat of an insta-love, but the flashbacks from their time together shows how connected they became to one another. They both made quite an impression on each other which lessens that annoying insta-love that is so popular among romance novels.
Instead of getting nothing but sex scenes we usually do from the romance genre, the focal point in Permanent Lines, was that love and bond between Amelia and Merrick. Yes, there are a few sexy love scenes but each was unique and provided proof of that tie these two characters had.
Even though this is a romance, it felt more suspenseful to me. The main focus of this novel was also the mission to get their happily ever after. Merrick needs to find a way to get Amelia out of her current world and safely into his. Talking about it even just a smidgen more would be a spoiler. Let me just say, the mission is that of life and death.
The book went through major changes since I first read it, but it only improved greatly. I have to give a round of applause to Ashley for her first attempt at this genre. I know how stressful and demanding it was for her, but it all paid off in the end.
4.5 stars!
This was my first book by this author and it was so awesome! I was excited to read it because the cover's hot and the synopsis sounded really interesting, even though it doesn't tell you the main plot line of the book! This book started out pretty slow, but at about 40% through it, it just exploded and the plot just went crazy! It was pretty epic! I did love the last half of this book better then the first half, because as I said, it did start pretty slow! After a certain point though, the plot sped up so much and my heart was in my mouth for most of it! I wanted the characters to have a happy ending so badly and I wasn't actually sure if they were going to get it! The plot was pretty, damn amazing! I wasn't expecting it and I was that hooked, I read this book in two sittings! I was desperate to find out what was going to happen next and how the plot was going to develop! There were also a few twists in the plot, which did have quite an impact and could have changed the whole outcome! The plot also dealt with some things that I actually wasn't expecting to play a part in it! It dealt with the mafia, which I wasn't expecting! I was quite surprised with where the plot went, but it was a good surprise! I haven't really read one like it before! The characters were amazing! Merrick was the main character and I just loved him! I normally don't like reading books written entirely from a male point of view, but I loved this one! I found Merrick really easy to connect with and he was such a genuine guy! I loved his determination and that he didn't back down as well! Merrick was also fiercely protective, but he wasn't as much of a bad boy as I was expecting! Trust me, he did have his moments though! Amelia was the love interest of Merrick and she was messed up in some deep crap! She was in deep and she wanted out! Her form of escape came in the a very hot, very lovable guy - Merrick! I loved Amelia! She was such a sweet person and I connected really well with her considering this book wasn't written from her point of view at all! She was the main centre of the plot in a sense and I was kinda surprised that this book wasn't partly written from her point of view though! As I said, I thought that maybe this book was going to be written from a dual point of view between Merrick and Amelia, but it was only written from Merrick's point of view! I think if it had been written from dual point of view it would have been a bit more, not interesting, but I would have been able to get more insight into Amelia's feelings and how she felt going up against part of the mafia! I can completely understand why this book is a standalone! The plot was resolved and all, but I found it hard to say goodbye to Merrick and Amelia! Their ending was absolutely beautiful though! I wouldn't have written it any other way! It was perfect! I will also definitely be checking out this author's other books! I have them all, so now all I have to do is read them lol! The cover for this book is hot! Like, really, really hot! I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it and it suits the book really well! Big thank you to Ashley for an ARC of Permanent Lines and to ACS Tours for having me on the Blog Tour!
After reading Running from Forever, I fell hard and fast for Merrick Drake. He had just the right amount of bad boy and sweetheart to suck me in. So when I heard there was a book coming just for him, I was ready and waiting.
“I loved her. I loved a girl I couldn’t have. I loved a girl I barely knew. I loved a girl who didn’t love me.”
In Permanent Lines Merrick finds his HEA in the form of Amelia Driscoll. And Amelia is GREAT! There was not a moment in this story that I didn’t feel that she had his best interest in mind. Merrick and Amelia have that instant attraction and instant love that some people don’t believe in. But Ashley’s description of their first encounter, night together, and Merrick’s feelings after, will make you a believer. My only complaint with it was that I felt it drug out a little too long. I felt that the meat of the story and the action didn’t start till almost 50% in. But I think I know why it was that way. We needed to understand his love for her before believing he would do the things he does for her. And I did believe it :)
“It’s like she took my normal self with her and left this crazy bastard in its place.”
Also, I enjoyed every one of the secondary characters. We had Kayla and Miles from Running from Forever, plus Micah(Merrick’s best friend) and Maddy(Kayla’s sister). Every character in this story was enjoyable and well written, so that you understood their importance. I am secretly hoping that Micah could get his own story. Like Merrick, he also is that perfect mix of bad and good ;)
“You do realize how stupid you are for loving me, right?”
“Baby, I would never argue the fact. I’ve been a stupid fuck my whole life; no need to change that now.”
Ashley Wilcox is one of the few authors who I can honestly say I have read every book she has written and I plan to try my hardest to keep that going. I enjoy her writing style and the way she explains her characters emotions. Because, for me, the emotions are the most important aspect of the book. If I can’t feel it and believe it, I don’t enjoy it. Permanent Lines is a quick, easy, and enjoyable read. Buy it! Read it! Enjoy it!
This is a book filled with true love and lots of DRAMA
Taking off straight where ''Running from Forever'' finishes we get Merricks story.
The hot tattooed bartender who became best friends with our heroine from the previous book.
Merrick is a fab guy, not looking for any commitment, he's looking for a fun time. He's not a male tart who needs taming, he's just a regular guy.
While out bike racing he comes across Amelia, the daughter of the race promoter. He considers her a spoilt little princess who Daddy is appeasing by letting her play on the dirt track with the big boys. What Merrick didnt expect was her to kiss ass while out there. Shes beautiful and races bikes- Merrick needs to know more!
After a lovely weekend spent together Amelia disappears on him......she wont return his texts, she wont answer his calls, he doesn't know where she lives- its killing him, she was his perfect woman and she has just vanished off the face of the earth and he can not stop thinking about her. He's literally counting the days since he last saw her.
After being set up on a blind date by his BFF Kayla fate has these two run into each other again and Merrick finds out why she just vanished. And its not pretty!!
And thats when the story really picks up.
This isnt your average love story- this book throws in twists and turns at every page, covering topics of these two realising they love each other, murder and the mob.
I really enjoyed Merricks story- he was a lovely decent, hard working man who loved Amelia so much. This story is told in his point of view and the author does a male POV very well. He doesnt have much in the riches category but what he has he is very proud of but he is also willing to give it all up for love. He has his little bar that he has to walk away from in order to keep Amelia safe.
Amelia was a good heroine, she was quiet and shy at times, but then when something needed to be said or done she got straight to it.
We also get another look into Miles and Kayla's relationship as they are both very strong characters in this book. I was glad to see Merrick and Miles sorting things out and on the road to becoming great friends too.
Running from Forever and Permanent Lines were my first Ashley Wilcox reads but they wont be my last.
This book is permanently etched on my heart! This book is for all the girls who waited for the call that never came!
Permanent Lines is told from Merrick Drake’s point of view (male). He is bar-owner by day and motocross racer on weekends. He’s a bit cocky – you wouldn’t kick him out of your bed for eating crackers. He definitely can handle anything you throw his way no matter the horsepower.
The book starts off with him at the track racing an unknown opponent that challenges him to pull out his best moves. He holds onto the win and is surprised to find out he was almost beat by a g.i.r.l. – Amelia.
“The attraction was definitely there, and a pull like no other to boot. It was becoming pretty damn obvious that I had it bad for this girl. I wanted to spend time with her, get to know her, and not to mention, kiss the lips that I had been admiring. Yeah, I wanted Amelia. I wanted her in the worst possible way.”
They spent one magical weekend together and then nothing. “It’s been a week – seven long days since I woke up to an empty bed and no fucking clue what went wrong. No calls, no answers, just her voicemail, unanswered texts, and now a telephone line that’s no longer in service.”
Merrick is haunted by Amelia. They had so much in common – the connection so deep. As hard as he tries to move on - he can’t. How could he with these memories?
“Those eyes…they spoke the same depths of pain that I’m sure mine had so many times.”
“We stayed like that for a minute. No tongue, just lips, but the most amazing kiss I had ever had in all of my life – I felt it in every inch of my body – it was real, tantalizing, and a moment I would never forget.”
The more I read, the more I hoped that he would find Amelia – but I’m not telling. I won’t tell you about his dating mishaps while he tried to get over her. I will tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed the book and recommend you read it. My final thought – what would I do for love?
I first met Merrick Drake in Running From Forever (The Forever Series #5) and fell head over heels. A ridiculously, hot bartender who races dirt bikes and has an amazing sense of humor . . . sign me up. While Kayla (from Running From Forever) missed out on the deliciousness that is Merrick, Amelia Driscoll was smart enough to take a big ole’ bite out of the hunky racer.
Merrick and Amelia meet while they are racing. Their attraction is immediate and after an intense build-up the two share an amazing night and day together. But when Merrick wakes up from his sex coma he finds that Amelia is gone with no explanation. After trying to contact her for days Merrick finally comes to the conclusion he has to try and let her go.
Amelia’s reason for leaving Merrick was shocking. I definitely didn’t see that coming. It was a nice twist that added an edge I really enjoyed. Merrick and Amelia’s fight to be together was long and arduous. They were constantly struggling against Amelia’s . . . well I can’t tell you without giving away major spoilers, but their problems definitely weren’t the normal cheating boyfriend or unsupportive friend.
Merrick fought fiercely for Amelia. Even though his attraction and feelings for Amelia were fast, his feelings were true and strong. There was no way you could question his love for her. The lengths that Merrick went through not only to be with Amelia, but to keep her safe, melted my heart.
I enjoyed everything about this book, . . . I just didn’t love it. I liked the characters (I really, really liked Merrick) but I still didn’t make that connection that would make me love them. Even though I didn’t fall in love I definitely enjoyed Permanent Lines. I’m so glad Ashley Wilcox gave Merrick a chance to find love. I think anyone who was rooting for the sexy bartender in Running From Forever will definitely be excited to have the chance to get more of Merrick.
With this book you definitely see the evolution and growth of Ashley Wilcox's writing from her first book I read which was Planning on Forever.
With Ashley's books they escalate very quickly with the plot and emotions but they are very quick reads. To some this may be a pro and to others this may be a con.
In Running on Forever I fell in love with Merrick so I was quite excited to read his book.
In Permanent Lines Merrick meets Amelia one day at a cycle race and instantly falls in love.
He spends the weekend with her then she disappears. He spends the next two months not being able to get her out of his mind. Fate intervenes and he runs into her again only to find out that she has knee deep in shit with the mob.
Deciding she is the one he takes her from the mob with the help of Miles and Kayla. They quickly come up with an effortless plan to take over the mob so they can have their HEA.
That part of the story was a bit over the top and completely unrealistic for me.
All in all it was a sweet read with love and drama but for me a bit over the top with the mob story line and the quick escalation which totally bums me out because I totally wanted to fall for this story like I did for Merrick in the past.
I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
Permanent Lines is the first book I’ve read by Ashley Wilcox so I was going into this blind and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I would also say that although characters from Running from Forever are in this book it can be read alone. I will read R.F.F. as actually I had already marked it to read before being included to read Permanent Lines. I don't think I've ruined it for myself by reading this first.
Now I don’t know if this book is of a different vein to her other publications but I can definitely say I thoroughly enjoyed it. I did however find myself faltering a little at the start. This book can only be described as a book with two halves. The first half or actually 42% (ish) is completely different the second half.
Why did I falter a smidge at the start? Well although Merrick apologises for his pussy-arse behaviour (thanks Merrick ☺) he did do my head in a little with his doldrum persona. Yeah I get he missed her but his reminiscing was a tad stick your fingers in your throat at some points. He was definitely whipped from the get-go. Saying all that though I get it. I get why he was in that headspace, didn’t mean I enjoyed reading it in a couple of places but I am not beyond understanding where he was at.
Then all I can say is as you go beyond 42% - BAM - the story has had a rocket up its arse and we’re near hitting defcon 2 bordering 1 with the explosion of action that hits you head on and you find yourself sitting up and taking a lot more notice and that’s it you can’t help it you’re friggin hooked. What Amelia is messed up with and connected with take this to a whole new level and the consequences and suspense and need to find out how they are going to get free of the situation has now become a page turner. There’s a lot of suspense, murder, calculating and planning and of course romance. Then we're onto the epilogue which I have to say was a lovely ending and wrapped up their whole story very nicely, hmmmm very nicely indeed.
Now all I want to ask is Nova going to get her own book? The carrot was dangled and I took the bait ☺
This is my first Ashley book and it will not be my last. While Permanent Lines is a stand-alone romantic suspense, I understand that Merrick (along with other characters) are first introduced in Ashley’s “The Forever Series”. Since I have not read them yet, I can say that you do not have to read them before reading Permanent Lines – but I will be putting them on my to-read list to find out more about these characters. So, if you are a fan of The Forever Series, you will definitely want to pick this one up.
This book as a whole was very entertaining for me. While the first half of the book did not absolutely win me over, the last half of this book I really enjoyed as it definitely made up for it and made this story for me. (I did not find this to be to too realistic/believable….but luckily for me a book does NOT have to be realistic – it is a book – a story – it is fiction).
This story is told in Merrick’s POV. Personally, a majority of the time I have a tough time connecting with most male POVs, so my feelings on this are simply “my” feelings, I am sure others will LOVE this perspective. I think that the Author knew that this could be the case with some of her readers as she put in a Preface where Merrick gives a disclaimer/warning that apologizes for his “pussy” behavior in the beginning of the book, that we will see that he was burned by Amelia – but he would do it all again because she was worth every second of misery she put him through….Merrick continues with “I don’t blame you, but just keep reading. I redeem myself pretty damn well, if I do say so myself, but beware, because holy shit do things get intense!
Well, no lie there, things do get intense….. as when you hit “that” climax point in the book, you probably will not want to put the book down, I know I did not want to and that I had to see where this was going to go.
So, if you are in search of a romantic suspense book give Permanent Lines a try – I would love to hear what you think.”
4 Star Book Review - Permanent Lines by Ashley Wilcox
**Please note: I received an advance reader copy form the author in exchange for an honest review**
I have only read two other books from this author, but enjoyed the story lines and the authors writing style. When the opportunity to sign up for the blog tour for this release of Permanent Lines come a while back, I jumped on it. The cover intrigued me, the synopsis was enticing, and I was eager to read more of Ashley's books. Of course, she did not disappoint with this publication either.
The book starts of with the introduction of Merrick. There was such a familiarity in the words I was reading. It was like I had met Merrick before. Hot guy....owns a bar in NY....his apartment is above the bar...etc. Then it finally hit me. DUH! We met Merrick in Ashley's Forever series, in Running From Forever. I loved Merrick and knew we would get more from him, but did not realize until I was reading Permanent Lines, that THIS was the more I was waiting for. (I've read a lot of books since then and my memory is not what it used to be.)
We enter into the head of Merrick Drake. He provides us the disclaimer at the beginning of the book that he became a real wuss when it came to Amelia. He's a bad boy, not looking for love. His first impression of Amelia is not favorable, but he quickly discovers there is an undeniable chemistry between the two of them At first glance, I assume Amelia is a spoiled, daddy's girl - taking what his money can give her. But that is not who she is at all.
Permanent Lines provides a great mix of romance and suspense. It's a story of strength and determination. It's about finding love in all the wrong and unexpected places....and discovering its endurance when circumstances are not in your favor. It's about being able to withstand the toughest of circumstances. It's about 2 people being stronger together, than they are apart. Here's to hoping your love life is not roses and daisies....but cacti.
If you like drama, suspense and a bit of steam, then GRAB yourself a copy of this book. This was told in Merrick Drake POV and boy oh boy is he HOT.
Merrick is a HOT tattoo dirt bike rider. He owns a bar in New York and doesn't due relationships. Everything for Merrick changes when he meets Amelia Driscoll at a dirt bike competition. Merrick had the best weekend of his lift and never heard from Amelia again.
"Amelia was different. she caught my eye immediately. I didn't meet her in my bar. She wasn't begging for attention. She was chill, hot and easy to talk to."
Dealing with the ache of losing Amelia, Merrick try's to move on. Kayla, Merrick best friend set him up on a date. Everything changes while on a double date, Merrick see his her.
"Nova and I were talking about I don't know what when the instructor clapped us to attention. My body froze, my heartbeat sky rocketed, and the world around me stopped as I slowly and apprehensively glanced up. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't think. I couldn't do anything as her eyes caught with mine."
Everything changes that night, shit hits the fan and nothing will be the same. Merrick in-list the help of Miles, his best friend fiancé to help with the shit his in. Will Merrick and Amelia survive this crises? Will everyone involve make it out alive?
I have never read anything from Ashley Wilcox before, but I am a big fan now. I loved this book and I couldn't put it down. Merrick is HOT as Hell. I loved how the book was told completely from Merrick's POV. This book had the right amount of suspense with just the right amount of Hotness. The beginning of the book for me was a little different, I didn't, not like it, but I wasn't sure how much of it I could believe as being how a guy really acts. That did not stop me from loving this book. If your looking for a some drama, suspense and Hot men. This book is for you.
You know when you pick up a Christmas or birthday gift, study it and you think you can guess what is but when you open it, it's completely different and is actually really great. Well, that's how I feel about Permanent Lines.
I read the synopsis and started the book and thought I had a good idea how the story would play out and boy oh boy, what I got was so much better.
So we have Merrick Drake.... bar owner, dirt bike rider and a man with tattoos who hasn't done relationships before. At the race he encounters Amelia Driscoll, a gorgeous bike rider herself and there is an instant attraction. After spending one amazing weekend together, where the connection intensifies, Amelia just disappears... poof.
Merrick is obsessed and consumed by her. He has never experienced anything like this before in his life and he can't think of anything but her, he can't even go out with other woman without thinking about her.
A twist of fate and a chance encounter throws the two back together and you know that they are meant to be. However, Amelia is caught up in something dangerous and out of her control and it's going to take a lot to pull her out of it.
The situation brings favourite characters from Running From Forever into the storyline and I enjoyed getting to see them again. Kayla, Miles, and Micah, make great secondary characters and played important roles in the unexpected plot.
I wasn't expecting the story to involve the aspect of Amelia's life that it did, but I loved how it played out and the lengths that Merrick would go to, to have a future with the one he loved.
There's drama and suspense that will have you waiting for the outcome that you want and need. Ashley Wilcox did another great job at bringing an entertaining story to life and providing characters that as a reader you want to continue reading about and following more.
A recommended book without a doubt.
**TARA’S REVIEW**
*4.5 Prickly Cactus Stars*
Merrick Drake is a HOT love struck dirt bike riding bar owner, who falls for Amelia Driscoll after spending a weekend with her following a race. When Amelia disappears from his bed, Merrick struggles with trying to understand where it all went wrong. When a chance encounter reunites them, sparks and gunfire bring these two back together.
“Amelia Driscoll was mine and I would make damn sure that nothing ever changed that or stood in my way.”
Permanent Lines is filled with suspense, lust, love, drama. You will start off wanting to slap Merrick and tell him to snap out of it.
Merrick can’t get Amelia out of his mind and flashes back to their brief encounter several times in the first half of the book to lay the storyline out for us. At times it stalls just a little but picks back up and slams you into a whirlwind of crazy events that ultimately bring Merrick and Amelia back together.
“I loved her. I loved a girl I couldn’t have. I loved a girl I barely knew. I loved a girl who didn’t love me.”
Bound and determined to get his girl, Merrick and friends form a plan to “save” Amelia and put her back in his arms for good. This is where the suspense comes in. Will their plan work?
“What we had was like a cactus. No matter what happened, no matter how much time it spent alone for no to care it, it would survive.”
Permanent Lines is the first book of this type for Ashley Wilcox and she did a really good job with the storyline. It contains characters from a previous book (Running from Forever). While Permanent Lines is a stand alone book, I recommend reading Running from Forever to get to know the characters before reading Permanent Lines.
***** I received an ARC copy for an honest review *****
I just finish reading this book , an I am so glad I got to read it, since I been wanting to read this for a while, this book did not disappoint me at all, I love it from the first page to the very last, love it how it turned out I have to say that at some point of the book it had me on the edge of my seat cause I jut wanted to see what's gone happened next.
I love reading this book, I love it that we get to see that Kayla and Miles love is still growing strong. love it that Merrick and Kayla are still best friends and love it more when Miles tell Merrick that he is part of his family since he was marrying Kayla. this is the story of Merrick and Amelia.
The story begging with Merrick on a dirt bike race, when he was on the final lap of the race he notice that he was head to head with another racer. What he was not expecting was that the racer that he won from was a woman, that's when Amelia come in the picture, after that race Merrick and Amelia spend the weekend together, after that weekend that was the last time that he heard from Amelia, while the months past by and he kept thinking about her, Kayla decide to introduce him to a friend of her, on their second date they where all going to a painting show, that was the first time that he got to see Amelia, after that night everything turn up side down for them.
While Merrick had always said that he don't like to asked for help, this time he just have to Hush and take the help that Mile and Kayla are giving them, I love it how Merrick stick up for Amelia, and love it how Amelia had protect him those moth that she was away from him. I love the Drama that is in this book.
I really enjoy it and love reading this story and I hope that you do too. Author Ashley Wilcox once again THANK YOU for this awesome book and this amazing characters.
