Allison Young is a young adult at the beginning of her college journey. After caring for her mother who has Alzheimer's disease Allison made the difficult decision to put her mother into care as she could not care for her on her own anymore. When we meet Allison she is on her way to an underground MMA fight with her best friend Lainie.
Matthew Lynch is an ex-Navy SEAL with some real big demons that he fights everyday. Every once in a while Matthew fights in an underground MMA fight club. And it is here that Allison meets Matthew. From the first time Allison lays eyes on 'the merc' it is electrifying.
I have to say, at first I thought this was a college romance but I think it is really a military romance and although the book is told from Allison's perspective, I felt this was really more of Matthew's story. It touched on a very real subject. PTSD. To be more precise, PTSD from a military man. It was heartbreaking to know and see what Matthew went through and the way he tortured himself about it.
This book had also some very steamy 'scenes'. Matthew is an alpha male through and through. The book felt a bit rushed towards the end and I would have liked to know better Lainie and Matthew's family especially the boys as they seemed pretty important to him.
This is an enjoyable read and would definitely recommend.
It's been a few days since I've read this book. Forgive me I haven't been writing reviews as often as I should. I really liked this book. It was familiar to me. The thoughts. Getting through things that couples go through when dating a military man, because lets face it even when they are out they still have the same issues and baggage. I liked how no matter how closed off or damaged Matthew was, Allie pushed through. She was patient, understanding, and believed in him. Even when he felt he was monster or didn't believe in himself. Now with that said. I don't quite understand why the author wanted to make us believe she was timid and innocent and her character be so quick to give it up? I understand Matthew being guarded but shutting her out like that all those times just made me crazy. lol I did enjoy this book, even though it was a quick read romance novel. I read several before this that were frankly atrocious. So this read was refreshing. I'm all into the military romance novels lately. I always say a book is worth reading if I can get a quote from it that speaks to me.
"Warriors live in twilight; we hold the line so the rest can enjoy the sun."
Love that quote. Love our troops. Thankful for their service.
