A fun, fast-paced Romantic Adventure by a Canadian Author.
Award winning author, Kathryn Jane is known for rising to a challenge, whether it’s getting her pilot’s license, facing down cancer, training cantankerous horses or writing that first novel.
Her personal tales of adventure include misplacing a Thoroughbred filly in a 747 at thirty thousand feet, planning the evacuation of over fifty horses in the path of an approaching wildfire, and being volunteered to represent her peers in a public speaking venue.
In the novels she writes, Kathryn keeps her heroines busy surviving life threatening adventures, or soul searching personal journeys, while they are doggedly determined to not fall in love with men they really don’t need. Think modern-day knights, and reluctant, self-sufficient damsels.
In spite of ridiculous odds, every story has a happy ending, with both halves of a couple coming to terms with love and all its complications.
Kathryn lives in a cozy cottage in the Pacific Northwest with a pair of tuxedo cats, and a faithful dog to keep the man of her dreams company as she writes page turning, steamy tales of love, mystery, and adventure.
This one was good, but a bit difficult to follow at times, simply because the MC did not know where she was or what was happening to her. Lots of romance, but again, because she had no idea whether she was with good people or not, it got a bit confusing. Still, a good story, and a bit of a wild ride, but it ends good, and I did enjoy it.
Cassandra has a one-night stand with Gage in Las Vegas, and then leaves town ... with no idea that he's following her. When she gets back to her ranch, her horse Buck stands accused of killing yet another man; Cassandra's only thought is how to hide the stallion and keep him safe.
What she doesn't know is that Gage is part of a security team that's been hired to keep track of her and her sister ... and that a mob called the Minnows are after both of them.
So, the sexy-times between Gage and Cassandra wind up being fairly frequent, and there's a lot of theoretical tension. The thing is, we never see a thing from the perspective of the alleged villains in this thriller. We see Cassandra constantly being drugged and uprooted by Gage or other members of the firm, in theory to keep her safe -- but from *what* we don't really know other than vague threats that are referenced throughout the tale.
There are also some editorial errors (typos, missed punctuation, and the like) that drew me out of the story.
All the same, the author did a lot of things right -- especially where horses are concerned. As a former equestrian athlete, few things make me crazier than reading novels in which theoretical horsewomen don't appear to know the first thing about their equine partners. So, that was a real plus to me.
2.5⭐️ This is a definitive downgrade in stars. The plot and characters made the story palatable. Nevertheless. the manner in which the story unfolds is not well executed. It was just very difficult to follow at times, and it jumped from point A to point D, with no plausible explanation or left out huge chunks of relevant information. Sometimes the speaker in the story was difficult to discern initially because several characters’ thoughts or comments are interjected into the middle of a character’s POV. Extremely confusing.
Further, the number of grammatical errors and editing issues on just about every page is egregious, so much so, that I could barely finish the book, gritting my teeth all the way. I really want to continue the series; however, not if it’s at the cost of my sanity. This sh*t drives me crazy. Editor please!
Unless this book is newly and thoroughly edited and proofread, I cannot in good conscious recommend.
Do Not Tell Me No, is the first book in the Intrepid Women romantic suspense series by Kathryn Jane.
“Ten floors above the Vegas strip. The bathroom door opened and my life went down the toilet.” The opening lines to this fast-paced romantic adventure hooked me from the first page.
Cass’s family split up when she was a child. She and her sister stayed with her mother, and her father and brother vanished. An adult now, Cass is determined to find them. She goes to Vegas looking for her brother and falls for a stranger. Her ranch manager calls to tell her there’s been another death at her ranch, so she races home without a word.
Gage Meyer is the stranger Cass fell for, and his assignment is to protect Cass. Before he can get her into protective custody, she leaves the ranch in search of a missing horse. When he finds her, he gets her to a safe house, but he quickly discovers protecting her will be the biggest challenge of his life and his heart.
This book was so good, I stayed up into the wee hours of the morning to finish it. I recommend this book!
Do Not Tell Me No by Kathryn Jane Intrepid Women Series Book One Gage Meyers, Meyers Security had a job to do. Keeping Cassandra safe. The problem was, once emotions entered into the picture, this tough former special ops guy found himself deep in trouble. There was no controlling this wild gal, especially when he was losing control.
Cassandra went from a crazy night in Vegas to life on the run. Being told things that she thought to be true...weren't. Telling her she needed to change her life. Disappear. Only, she wasn't very good at being told what to do or not to do.
Action-packed story. There is romance, but both of them are fighting it as everything around them needs full attention. Definitely a roller coaster, page-turner of a story. **Sexual content and language https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
Cassandra has been looking for her father & brother for years. She goes to the ranch her dad had and finds him dead. Now it is her brother who is at the top of her agenda. She has great survival skills but can they help keep her safe. She goes to Vegas looking for her brother and finds herself in a hotel room with a handsome guy she has spent the night with. Gage is suppose to be protecting this woman not sleeping with her. The family security company is suppose to be staying out of the way but watching out for her. As much as Gage knows he should keep his distance he can't. Cass is a strong person and Gage has his hands full. There are secrets to be revealed.
This is the first book, I have read by this author. This book was confusing at first, but I started to follow when I realized what game the security company was playing. Cassandra is a very independent woman and she came out bratty and spoiled at times. Gage is your typical male, when it comes to attraction. It's why he messed up the first extraction of Cassandra in Vegas. This book spent more time on the attraction and relationship between these two and sometimes the story gets lost, then suddenly it catches up. The book didn't grab me as some suspense books, so I was able to read it in many sessions before I actually finished it.
I don’t know what to address first. The story went nowhere, and while it had a HEA, the ending left a lot to be desired. Because it just ended. Done.
The sentence structure and dialogue had so many errors it was off-putting and confusing. Very irritating, knowing someone (should have) taken a closer read.
So many events occurred over and over and over again, becoming tedious. Very little connection between the characters, because the writing was so thin. I would not read another book by this author, if this is what I’m going to get. Not even tempted to read book 2.
This was written in the first person for Cass’s point of view but then would switch to third person for Gage’s parts. As such, I never really got a sense of Gage’s personality like I did for Cass. The grit and determination that Cass showed was well done. The sudden chops and changes in her surroundings added to the confusion she would have felt and conveyed it to the reader how it would have felt very well. I’d definitely read more by this author.
A very convoluted plot. Really brilliant characters in many knife edge situations. Maddy's very independent, can't allow herself to rely on many people. She's great with planning but finds it hard to trust her feelings. Her lover has some surprises in store. Hope you enjoy it too.
Katherine Jane has written a winner with this novel! Her characters and the plot keep you interested till the end of the book. Then you want to read the next book.
While I like women that are strong, sometimes Cass was a little too strong, almost dumb. I liked all the characters and their story was great. I have a Gage of my own so I know how good he is. Would recommend to all who like romance and a little mystery.
The characters jumped off the page and grabbed and didn't let go. The writing flowed so well, before I knew it it was four in the morning. After a couple hours of shut eye I resumed reading. Kathryn Jane has a winner here and I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series.
New author for me. I was intrigued by this book I wasn’t sure what to expect. The story was good but I got confused in quite a few places. I felt like I’d walked into a story halfway through. I read until the end but I’m still not sure quite what happened.
I obtained this free e-book from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing a review. This was a confusing, disjointed, made no sense read that during the last couple of pages the author tried to pull it all together and failed miserably.
I was just going to read a few chapters before bed but could not stop. Good story, believable characters and lots of action. Finished it the next morning and am anticipating reading more of the series. I now have a new author to read.
Twists, questions, fun characters... Human and furry... Cass surely wants to be independent, possibly for the wrong reasons, but she does things her way and the author let's us inside Case's head.
Could not put this book down. Did not want it to end. This is one story that I could not figure what was going to happen next and could not wait to find out. Loved the characters.
This story was interesting and it kept a good pace. It had some steam but not a lot of details. I don't know why the main character kept running when she had a safe place to be. It was a little frustrating. A kind of ended quickly. But I guess I'm on to number two in the series.

Intriguing captivating well written novel. Intelligent and responsive strong characters who take the risks of life to make a fulfilling future with the people who need them plus the ones they love including humans and animals.
Great combination of romance and suspense with believable characters that you want to root for. I liked the buckskin stallion. This was the first time I had ever seen a horse framed for murder.
Plot twists and turns with an eventual HEA . Introduces an intriguing family with more adventures to come. Have already read book 2 and looking forward to the rest of the series
A great premise and really enjoyed the second part of the book. The chemistry was great between characters but the first few chapters were a bit confusing and hard to follow.
